Yes what is ghosting? I've had my nexus for a week and it is the best device I've owned. Only flaw is it's fragility

I swear, once people know TOO much about things, they start finding even the LITTLE faults.
Ghosting happens if an LCD has 5ms refresh rate or higher. So far I've seen that on 2 different devices and it's there. I even found out her ppl in reviews citing this problem

Maybe I'm just mathematically retarded today, but wouldn't a 5ms refresh rate == 200 Hz ?! What's unacceptable about that?

Just tested one at the local t mo. I guess you get used to it after a while but I still don't like the display. I meant its not bad by my HTC is better to me at least.
Really bummed about that. I was really looking forward to getting a nexus... Even my cm10.1 is better than vanilla android. Too bad maybe next nexus they make will be right for me.
Sent from my Evo V 4G using xda app-developers app
The only time I've ever seen this is with my razr that has an oled display. A quick transition between whites and blacks would create that issue. In terms of lcd, it is a standard 60hz screen like most desktop monitors.
I don't think there are any ips panels that can support 120hz so this is probably as good as it gets. What you're noticing is probably visual lag of some sort.

Yet another case of someone being picky to an absolutely RIDICULOUS level. And yes, that needs to be in all caps.
I think I'm going to RMA my phone, it makes this weird clicking noise whenever I push the buttons on the left side, but its not the same click as the button on the right side makes.

Yep, I noticed that since the first day I've had my device. 4.2.2 definitely takes care of that problem for me since they did a bunch of changes in the video driver.

Bah 4.2.2 does not fix that. Its a hardware issue, software can't remedy that. I also noticed that pure android on that phone lack some quality if life feature compared to cm10.1. Surprisingly enough... Oh well I'll wait for the next nexus device I guess.
I love everything else about the phone tho and at that price its still a steal. Form factor us great

You're right, ghosting on that panel is pretty bad. LG did a pretty bad job with it, overdrive+proper calibration would have made the screen noticeably better. Coming from an amoled panel (which have about 0.1ms response time) the difference is staggering.
A lot of people don't notice it, just like a lot of people don't notice the difference between colors in TN and IPS panels, 128kbps mp3 and CDs or 40 and 80 fps in games. It's a matter of being used AND sensitive to the better quality.
Franco is right when he says that 4.2.2 brought lots of improvements to fluidity, but ghosting hasn't really changed, it's due to the pixels' response time and that hasn't changed. You're wrong saying that software cannot fix it tho, because huge mitigation could come from a software lcd overdrive implementation, which is probably not going to happen anyway: it needs to be implemented at driver level, afaik nobody on linux has done it yet (just ATI and maybe nvidia on their latest windows drivers).
But hey, that's far from being a deal breaker, it's A PHONE. First of all, you get used to it; second, it doesn't really matter all that much.
16gb max, no sdcard and otg support can be a deal breaker. But LCD ghosting? Get outta here.

Im sooooooo excited! I have been waiting for the extra $ since the TF was talked about and was finally able to get it today at Toys R Us!
Its charging now so don't want to play with it till its fully charged.
Question is:
What do you recommend I do the first few hours after is being charged? Any particular applications I should try? Should I root right away? If so what Rom should I install? What defects should I be aware of/check?
Any other suggestions will be appreciated ;-)
I know its a silly post, but I kinda got overwhelmed/intimidated the first 10mimutes after I turned it on!
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
You would be wise to never root until you are SURE that you have a good unit.
Check the speaker balance.
Go into a dark room and put on a total black jpeg and this will allow you to look for major light bleeding or white "blobs" in the middle of the screen.
Update to the newest Honeycomb ( 3.1 UNROOTED FOR NOW )
The play with it for a few days. If you are happy THEN AND ONLY THEN should you root and heap the full benefits of the Asus Transformer.
1. Look for dust under screen, light bleed (particularly on corners and the lower left) and dead or stuck pixels. Make sure you ramp up brightness to the max before checking.
2. You might also want to note sound quality (is one speaker louder than another) and overall volume before applying any updates.
3. Now go and check if there are any updates using the Check for Updates option in the Settings.
4. Afterwards, check sound again. Note any changes to overall volume and balance.
5. If by this point you've hit none of the issues so far, I guess someone else will have to help you as to what you should do next. I haven't gotten this far since I had to send mine in to get it butchered within the same week I got it.
If however you find any of the issues above, cry and keep it to yourself or bring it to TRU and hope they do an exchange. Some fanatics on here will tell you QC issues don't exist and you're part of a conspiracy to pressure Asus into adopting better QC.

There are certainly issues with every product out there, including the Transfomer, but I think sometimes they get overblown a bit. Like the light bleed, mine has just a little, but is it enough to bother me? Nope. In fact, from what I can tell almost all IPS screens suffer from some amount of it (look at the iPad 2), it's just the way it is. Mine has been awesome, and I haven't had any major issues, maybe I just took more time out to "smell the roses"

I can accept light bleed if it was about a 2-3mm line of gray on a black background on the edges of the screen but in my case the band was inches, not mm. That's not overblowing it, that's reality. I don't overblow things, I call it as it is. Inches of gray screen on a black background is bull****! It kills the image quality and ruins dark movies.
If you haven't had that you wouldn't understand and of course the people who do have massive light bleeding look like crazies to the people who don't who think they're seeing the same thing we're seeing. I assure you it's different. How do I know? I have a friends unit to use as reference and the level of bleeding on his pales in comparison to mine.

I've compared it to several iPad's as well, it definitely looks great in comparison, and we have all the extra goodies like HDMI out, MicroSD Slot and the Keyboard Dock I have to wonder if the light bleed is similar for all for the IPS Screens, but it just happens to bother some more than others, though I'm sure some did escape the factory with bad screens, like all hi tech devices the more complicated they get the more chance for mistakes. I have the Keyboard Dock and this is my laptop, in fact I sold my laptop to help pay for this, and I haven't looked back, this is just more fun to use PLUS I can leave the keyboard when I don't need it or the extra ports, try doing that with a laptop
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions!
Couple of questions:
I have MIUI as my daily Rom on my DInc and really got used to organizing my apps in different folders. Does honeycomb offers such feature? If not, how do you manage to organize your apps?
Also, im looking for defects on my TF and so far i cannot notice any light bleeds. How do i see whether one speaker is louder than the other? They both seem ok, but cant tell for sure.
Thanks!

I understand why people are not happy with the video recorder sound. There is no point in pretending its not a problem by comparing it to a 4k HDR camera. If they can do 1080p 30fps you'd think the sound would be at least on par with the visuals.
Fact is the SGS2 had much better sound and so too does the iPhone. Samsung have achieved better in the past and its disappointing to take a step back in the area.
Again with the whinges about the sound. Its a software problem. It will be fixed eventually.

Same if it not better than my Sprint GNex. I turn off the GPS whenever I'm not navigating and that saves a bunch. I have Facebook, Currents, and Weatherbug set to refresh only every 4hrs. Automatic brightness on. With that, I'm having no issues going from 6am-7pm and still have about 20% afterwards. This is with 400+ texts, 20 emails outbound, and 150 minutes of calling, and lots of web surfing.
The Note 2 was my other choice, by I'm biased to Nexus devices now. Easier development with NO manufacturer involvement in OS updates. If the battery still scares you, Mophie makes a cool looking brick for MicroUSB that charges at 2.0a. $79, 4000mah. Toss in a backpack, and it's two extra full batteries.
Add me to the list of happy campers! N4 rocks and is the best device of 2012!!

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one with a working N4. It seems the QC at LG is subpar and there were tons of devices that left the factory not in pristine condition. But then again, the device was half the price of a non contract similar device so they had to cut corners somewhere. It's nice to finally leave Sprint behind with it's terrible data speeds. Yes the N4 isn't LTE, but it's sure faster on ATT's HSPA then Sprint could ever be so I'm satisfied with the data speeds.
Touch screen isn't all that sensitive. I've seen various threads talking about it but none since like december. Have you guys got used to it or do you reckon they'll ever fix it? I can pretty much touch everywhere on the screen lightly without getting a single response. I've never had a touchscreen device like it! If that could be sorted it would be the best phone going. the average prs rating I was getting was between 0.4 - 0.5
If you're talking about pinch to zoom, I read from LG that it was designed that way. The first 1cm movement is not counted, in order to prevent you from accidentally pinching the screen.
Well tbh i got used to it, I guess pressing just alittle bit harder won't make you sweat?

sounds like a problem specific to your phone. The nexus 4 is more responsive than my galaxy nexus or gs2. Try to reinstall the factory image to see if that helps if not i would send it back.
This is a tricky one. I'm not sure if it's a faulty device because many others have complained about touch sensitivity. I mean it recognises my touches 95 percent of the time it's just now and then I need to press things twice. I'll see if I can record a video of me pressing extremely lightly.

If you're comfortable with tweaking things around, I've managed to solve this same problem on my Nexus. Weird thing is, it seems to only affect some phones. My friend has a completely stock and it registers touch input just fine, but mine has always been way too conservative. This Kernel fix completely makes it go away, the only downside is that it has to reinstall itself everytime you boot your phone, so you can't touch your screen for the first minute after a reboot. totally worth it though!
I have a problem only when using a screen protector and only when that screen protector is dirty

I agree nexus 4 touch responsiveness is Crap..
Compare it to a iPhone , S3 note 2, Galaxy nexus
Most phones are better... I'm not impressed with anything the nexus 4 offers

So basically having the fastest phone on the market for half the price doesn't impress you? My touch is super responsive. You're one of those unpleasable people. Gtfo.

My touch is not responsible (so far than other android phone or a 4s) at all, but if I swipe with the same contact with the screen, the phone recognize it ...
Tapalked with a Nexusâ´
I dont know whats wrong..I feel no difference at all...Touch responsiveness is fine..
The fastest phone on the market ? Don't kid yourself !
I'm not an unpleaseable person..But seriously the phone has some issues..
Its a nice & quick phone.. But certainly nothing to be overly excited about..

Yes it is the fastest phone on the market. It beasts the one and s4 the majority of the time. You're an unpleaseable person by far if this phone doesn't please you.

The majority of the time? Lol.
You take things pretty harsh huh ?
The one is a way nicer phone! The s4 I'm pretty sure is also better than n4..
I don't really care either way.. I have my own opinion just like you.. And what I have said many people have also said..

I bought my Nexus 4 from Google Play about two weeks ago, so it's one of the "newer" batches.
One thing I can say with utmost confidence, the sensitivity is easily as good as my Galaxy S3, perhaps even better tbh.
And yes, it BEASTS the GS3 in speed, especially downloading and installing files. But pretty much faster all around. And I am a very hard person to please.
I would buy the Nexus 4 again before I'd buy any other phone. Price point, power, elegance.. seriously a great phone. Yes there have been some issues for many people, but all in all a top notch phone at an entry-level price.

Well you could always sell it, pretty sure plenty of people would take off your hands
I had some questions about the nexus 10 I ordered mine from play store shouls be getting here soon after I readed all these problems im ready thinking its gonna be bad like some people say . How do getting replacements work . Do they send me one first then I send messed up one back . After the 15 day return period could you still get replacements if like the screen leeks bad . ???????

If you let Google put the cost of a new Nexus 10 on hold then they will send you a Nexus 10 while you still have yours. The money will be released when they receive your old Nexus 10.
Replacements are done through Google first, and after the return/replacement period then warranty for hardware defects is through Samsung. The Nexus 10 comes with a 1 year warranty, but a couple people have had problems with Samsung trying to say the warranty is only 90 days. The booklet clearly says 1 year though, and I think it says 1 year in the Play store when you buy the tablet so Samsung will have to honor that. If there are too many problems try and get Google involved with Samsung not upholding warranty on Google's tablets.
And it is really just 15% of people making a large stink about problems, many people are perfectly fine and happy with the tablet. Of those 15%, probably 5% will simply never be happy and just want to cause problems.
When you get your tablet be sure to set your background to solid black and delete all icons on the homescreen. Turn the brightness up half way and look for backlight bleed. if you have some, then you should consider returning the tablet for a new one, especially is the bleed has a yellow color to it rather than white. You can turn the backlight up higher to check with more brightness, but if you dont notice it at 50% then you probably wont ever notice any issues with the screen during any use.

Yes i would buy it again ...
but with more care about the possible defect . test the product very good before decide to keep it or not . dont trust google and samsung
- test the bleeding ( i have alot 4 points )
- test the battery . you should get at least 6 hour of screen minimum minimum on surfing the net . ( i get 5 )
- test the hdmi out ( i got it deffective from the box )
At least this are my problems

Yes I love mine. It is extremely smooth with custom ROMs and kernels. We have lots of great options from developers, battery life is exceptional, and the screen looks amazing watching an HD movie or TV show. I suppose if I had ever had problems with the tablet then I may feel differently, but I have yet to have any issues whatsoever. My one regret is that I did not purchase a 32GB version. If I could go back I would have waited another week to buy and paid the extra $100 for double storage space. I have a lot of games installed and my tablet is 90% full on space at all times and I wish I could install more.
I also have the note 10.1 which one you think is better .

I havent used the Note 10.1 so I really dont know. The performance on the Nexus 10 is much better, and I like the higher res screen. But I heard the colors still look nicer on the Note 10.1.

When do you notice the light bleeding?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
My tablet does not show any hint of light bleed until it reaches 80% or more brightness on a completely black background. Which is pretty good since LCD screens just inherently have light bleed because of how the backlight is designed for the tech. I have never even gone above 30% brightness while in doors, and outside at 100% it would be impossible to see any backlight bleeding anyway.
Once your tablet arrives I highly suggest the KTManta kernel. It has lots of fun options and the only kernel with a bit of color fix.

I love my N10. But this is my second one, I had to RMA my first one. I was pretty vocal about the problems I was having, because of this:
+Its true that there is a lot of problem threads about this device. Partially this is from Android 4.2.1 not playing well with the N10, partially its because there are some defective N10 devices out there. I know because I had one! When you, the end user, has a general problem and then you go online to try and see if there is a fix, you find these threads, and everyone chimes in together it starts to get intense. Some of the people, as another user said, may never actually be satisfied. But others are reporting real problems, trying to find a fix. Im a lot more OCD than most people I meet, so I just assumed that was what was going on. I assumed I was just being picky, and that others were just being okay with it. But now, after using a different N10, I can say there was a guaranteed problem with my first unit.
So, just like the people that say "bad" need to be taken with a grain of salt, so do the people that say "good". I can say this: there are both good and bad N10s out there, and one thing EVERY new N10 owner needs to do is QUICKLY determine if you have a good or a bad one so that you can remedy the situation ASAP if you have a bad one.

There's two things I'm not a big fan of on the Nexus 10:
- Thermal throttling (this shouldn't even be an issue under normal circumstances, but the situation is far better than it was around launch)
- Available memory (we only have access to 1.2GB of RAM, not anywhere near the advertised 2GB)

Nope. I rooted it as soon as I got my hands on it. My fave: Rasbeanjelly + Trinity..
Edit: Thermal throttling is a common problem across all Nexus devices. But I don't consider it a big problem because I'm underclocked.
