Root ? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi !!!
One simple question : Should I root my nexus 4 after buying a week ago?
I want to know if it worth it bcz if my nexus breaks in 2 or 3 weeks and i need to RMA it.. Is it easy and safe to back the nexus 4 to stock after rooting?
Anyway ... i want your thought on this pls bcz it's my first time with an android and it'll be my first time with ''root'' ( I had an Iphone Jailbreak before ).
Thanks, Facefullz.

Bought new Nexus7 should i update OTA?

I just bought a Nexus 7 today and as soon as I setup the wifi it's prompting me to update to Android 4.11, it has 4.1 on it at the moment. I want to root the tablet but having use the Android Gingerbread in the past it is a PITA to wait for new root after we updated OTA on our smartphone. Should i avoid any OTA update for the N7?

Is there a new way to unlock 4.1.1? I'm new to rooting and stuff and I don't want to take any chances so I wanna be 100% sure.

It's a nexus. The answer to that is ALWAYS yes.

There's never a new way, it's always the same way. No update will "break" this.
fastboot oem unlock to unlock (this only have to be done once, it will remain unlocked unless you manually re-lock it)
fastboot flash recovery your.recovery.image (to flash a custom recovery)
Boot into recovery and apply the su zip of your choice if you merely want to root or if you want to flash a rom the rom of your choice (assuming these already reside on internal storage).

If you don't mind, I'd rather actually root my nexus s instead of my brand new bought nexus 7... I'm assuming it's almost the same guide to root both; just a different file; do you know of a guideline to root the nexus s on 4.1.1?

It is okay to use. BUT...it is always best to learn how to use adb. You know, just in case something ever goes wrong.
It is not like Apple's device, you will always be able to root and all, you dont have to be scared

I really like Wug's toolkit, I know there's a few so I'm not positive if the one you're referring too is wugs or another one, but I reccomend using wugs, and following its step by step on setting up drivers properly.

[Q] nexus 7 question

hi guys im new here to XDA.sorry if this is the wrong way to ask just got my nexus 7 32gb and was wondering if it safe for me to root and unlock my bootloader with Nexus Root Toolkit
1. whats the chance off it getting bricked/and can it be recovered if it did ?
thanks
use the search feature, its very easy to unlock the bootloader, i used the toolkit however since this was my first android device (4.1 16GB C80) and i was not sure what i was doing. just make sure to read everything, read it again, and then try it, and TAKE YOUR TIME. with modifying anything there is a risk of bricking it.

Rooting with locked bootloader..

Guys just got my n4 few mins ago.. I don't actually want to unlock the bootloader yet, just root the stock that's it..
Actually my younger bro is gonna use it for sometime and he doesn't do all this, i just wanna root his phone so that he could use titanium later on for backing up and move to a different phone while i take over the n4.. Would unlock the bootloader then so i get a fully wiped phone..
Dev section is too big to search for this.. Can anyone just link me to the thread/tutorial for rooting the stock without unlocking bootloader ??
Thanks

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there's a way to root without unlocking the bootloader. If you just got the phone a few minutes ago, what's the harm in unlocking the bootloader? If you unlock it now, it will save you the hassle of wiping all the data from the phone in the future.
Also, just because you have an unlocked bootloader doesn't mean that you have to change ROMs or anything. You can always lock it later if you need to, but having an unlocked bootloader gives you a lot more freedom when it comes to rooting.
Edit: Here's a guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018179

Hi I see you want to root to use titanium backup. If you don't want to unlock/root you could use this backup service called carbon. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup&hl=en
There is no way to root without unlocking the bootloader atm.
Just unlock with wuggs toolkit, then its as simple as an app from play store to lock/unlock. Geez, the urban legends of the horrors and sins of rooting, don't believe everything on the Internet.

None. Help test if you want it faster.
At the moment rcartaz09 and Faznx92 are right. There are no confirmed ways to root 13.3.2.1 and 14.3.2.1 just yet. If you want to stay up to date on things I recommend taking time to go through the forum for this device and read through them carefully: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2540
Also two threads I found to stay up to date on this topic are the following. Just simply read, follow up, and be patient:

The easiest way to update is by flashing the factory images for the latest build, you don't lose any data doing so as you don't need to wipe. I have detailed instructions in section 10 of my guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928
You'll just need to root again afterwards.
