It looks like there are a variety of other devices that have the same chipset - I've perused around other threads where some people had some success doing it (samsung vibrant has the same wifi chipset). I was curious if this was on any of the devs radars at all - theres an entire community of pentesters and infosec folks twitching and biting their nails over the idea that one can run standard industry tools (like the aircrack suite) on this platform.
I've been able to install ubuntu on my xoom, however the kernel module for the chipset (bcm4329) doesn't currently support monitor mode.
Thoughts / ideas / advice?
I think this would be fun to have....

I work for the android development team at Broadcom and I didn't even know that the xoom used the bcm4329. That's interesting. Unfortunately, I can't really give you any information on your problem.

Think theres a chance it can be tweaked at the android level?
Moved. Please post in the correct section. Thank you.
If other phones that have the same chipset work in monitor mode, it should be possible to port the code over to the existing wireless module we have now.
That said, it will probably be a bit of work porting from the version of Android on the Captivate (2.1, 2.2?) to 3.0.

Ubuntu is releasing its tablet version this week for developers, but its only for nexus devices, let's hope this will be available for our 7.7 also. My only dream id to run both jb and Ubuntu as dual boot on this tab

I have spare Galaxy Tab 7.7 that I'm not that actively using, but I would like to try an port the Ubuntu touch for it. Any hints how to start? I have been working with software since 90's but I have no idea how to go forward.
So what I have understood is that what Canodical did was to take latest stable CM 3.5.xx kernel and then compiled their Ubuntu software on top of that?
I don´t know anything about porting ubuntu or roms but this page should help: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting Well at least if u guys are talking about ubuntu touch...

Thx for help. I'm setting now Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on my spare laptop (Acer TimelineX 3820TG) with needed build environments.
I have no guarantees that anything what I'm trying will work, but I really hope that I can avoid bricking my gt-6800 and get the cm10.1 kernel to work with the device. After that it should be quite straight forward to get the build up and running in some shape.
Ok, now I have the environment set-up, but there are no kernel confs available. So it seems that I have to either found them somewhere or create a new one and then try to figure it out. It seems that Iocerras kernel is a bit old (3.0.xx series). We'll, as soon as I have something to show, I'll put the information available in the development section on this forum and release the first version of the platform. But currently the image build is on hold because I need to concentrate my daily work.
Will the cm10.1 not work?

There is no build for gt-p6800 available in CM10.1 with kernel sources. I'm still investigating where I might find the needed sources so that I can compile the kernel and start upgrading it towards 3.5.xx release.

Heh, anyway I think I'm getting quite close to on finishing the first ever build for ubuntu-touch for gt-p6800...
I had to create two new repositories because the kernel and device configuration that is available is so messed up. I hope I do not have many legacy kernel problems anymore when I'm making the first build here.
Are there any gt-p6800 dev's around still or has the ship sailed already from this device. I really like it because its premium build quality, but I hate it if there is no one else interested on the device anymore
YEAH, first build done.
If someone has a good idea where to dump the image for others to test, please notify me in this thread or PM me.

I use Ubuntu as my desktop OS at home. Canonical is looking to make your Ubuntu phone your only device. Android is a great mobile platform but is not a desktop platform. Ubuntu has a desktop platform and a tv platform both sitting on top of a common Linux kernel. If Ubuntu phone works as promised you'll have all three platforms in a single unified device depending on what the device is connected to. Standalone it is a phone/phablet/tablet depending on the device. Attach it to a tv and it is a media centre. Dock it to a keyboard, mouse and monitor it becomes a full desktop. Each with their own interface optimised for that use case rather than trying to make one interface that sort of works for all. If Canonical pulls this off it will be a winner.

As far as I know, Broadcom promised to get android on our small little computer Raspberry Pi but their is no news of it till now
So I started this thread to discuss all the possible ways to Port Android to RasPi

He says he got the system booting fine but due to the lack of egl drivers the h/w isn't accelerating... I'll catch hold of that guy! I hope we are able to make it work
I was after this also, in what i can help let me know.
Also, at this moment the main issue is the broadcom driver,!!

Can you link me to CynogenMod 7 for Pi?
For EGL Libs we have to start a petition against broadcom asking for the drivers But unfortunately we have to!
This is something that i have to dig deep before start anything, because i want to understand very well every aspect of this project.
What confuses me is, if there is already an arm 6 cellphone android with the same broadcom chip for graphics, why we cannot start from there?!! keep in mind the raspberry pi uses the same arm 6 cpu \ broadcom gpu

Main problem is that no manufacturer except samsung provides Broacom chip on their phones!
also, In my country Pi is out of stock :/
The closest Armv6 Phone which uses Broadcom chip is Galaxy Y and it has a quite similar GPU and CPU as compared to that of in Pi! *I HAVE THIS DEVICE*
But I am not sure if we can engineer its drivers to make it work with Pi!
Also we struggled alot to get a semi stable CyanogenMod 7!
UPDATE :victory:

Any progress with the build and anywhere to snatch a copy?
Im building my own set of smart glasses and was hoping to run the UI on my Raspberry Pi. If I cant I will have to just run it over a series of adaptors from my S3 to the glasses.
I need Android running well enough to voice search, Bluetooth to a Mini Rii and receive messages via ZipWhip.
Am I too early to this party?
Are there any dates for the first stable release that we can test it ?
Anything new?
Hi All,
we have been working on a new remote display product, called rPlay
In short, rPlay v1.0 supports Apple's Airplay protocol, including the latest Airplay Mirroring technology, so you will be able to send iPhone/iPad screens to a HDTV powered by a Raspberry Pi. It supports real time audio/video streaming.
This is the first time Airplay mirroring is implemented on raspberry pi devices.
We are accepting 100 beta testers for the Raspberry Pi platform, please send email to info at our company domain name.

For those who sent emails to request beta testing, please wait for a week or two, we are wrapping up a stable build for you. Thanks,

Any chance of a port for Android Devices? We've been trying with Android Transporter, BBQScreen, and MirrorOp, but nothing seems to work with Any Android device to the Raspberry Pi.
We don't support mirroring Android devices yet. However, we do have a port of rplay to run on Android, that is to mirror iOS devices to Android devices. (we plan to support mirroring Android in future releases)
If you want to mirror android at low fps, you can use our VNC server: (no audio/video, but what you see on the screen is indeed what you will get):

Legal concern
Apple doesn't open AirPlay mirroring protocol to any 3rd party. So far the only way to receive AirPlay Mirroring stream is via reverse engineering. Do you think it's possible to over come the legal issue and then make this functionality a real product to sell to consumers?
yes, that's our plan, to provide this as a real product for systems such as Raspberry Pi, Android, etc. We are also developing a miracast receiver within rPlay, so this would act as an open TV dongle. With our remote agent installed on the phone, (e.g., our VNC Server for Android and iOS), one can also remotely control the device, in addition to viewing.

I have received quite some emails for the beta testing, thanks. I will try to release the first test version late next week, stay tuned.
This first version will NOT contain miracast emulation, our upcoming versions will have that ready, so Android devices can also mirror screens to raspberry pi.
pretty cool!!!!
Thanks for this !
I've just sent an email to be a beta tester.

Does this beta already support Miracast?
This beta won't have miracast support. We do have internal version that works, we tested on S3 (with 4.1.1), S3(4.2.2), and Nexus 4/7, we need more testing on this before releasing to the public. It will be cool, I assure you.

Very impressive!! I already have a Rasp Pi hooked to my TV. This would be very useful. I recently ordered the $35 Chromecast so I could do mirroring with Chrome.
Spent a few days to emulate Chromecast inside rPlay, finally it can find the rPlay (on Raspberry Pi) as a chromecast device, and it can send youtube URL redirection. still long way to go, but seems possible.
Attached is a screenshot of Youtube on Nexus 7, the Chromecast button is shown, when clicked, it will show rPlay as the device.
This is just awesome!

I am currently starting development on Android TV for the Raspberry PI.
Not actual Android TV, but an android OS with all possibilities like Android TV.
The main reason for this project is that the most of the TVs that have HDMI have no support for the Android TV. With this you can get that experience without buying a new TV.
If you know any project like this, or have heard of someone starting a similar project, please inform me in this Thread.
And also would you like to see something like this for the raspberry PI? If you have any questions or suggestions, please write.
We are searching for developers, so please if you are interested please PM-me.
The project will be open source!

If someone was able to port an Android based ROM over, it would be pretty easy seeing as you would only need to port apks and stuff at that point....
The reason for me being here is: Amazon prime instant video isn´t working any more @ Kodi/XBMC etc. and it is unsure if it will be working ever again... (According to lordk @ kodinerds)
So the best solution will be using the app @ Android and i think there will be more raspberry pi2 user changing over to android.
Respect!!
If you need a tester, i´m ready for it.
