My nexus 4 has lots of these @at the bottom of the pull down menu .
I'm on EE network,my work college is on 3 and all his say is 3.
Curious to why they are there.

Probably just a missing string or the provider identity isn't recognized correctly.
On the same network & had the same problem on my n4, far too many calls with ee customer service got me nowhere, I even followed there advice & did a factory reset on my phone but still had the problem, in the end i decided to pop down to my local ee store & got a new sim card (first one told me it would cost £5, so i tried another one a few doors away who gave it to me for free), took just a few mins to set it up in store on my phone & problem solved, i even have so so download speeds now as my phone regularly gives me about 5 mbps down (can't wait to ditch ee this june & join 3), long story short get a new sim card.
It looks like you(or someone)has set a Custom Carrier Label.
I`m on EE with a home cut down sim and have no issues.
Just tried an EE sim and it displayed as normal for me.

So my severe lack of patience got the better of me and I ended up buying a nexus 4 on pay from O2 today however my contract is with Three. I highly doubt it but is there any free way to sim unlock it right now, without going through one of those online unlock websites?
Thanks for any help,
Josh
It should come unlocked?
Heard this from multiple people who also bought one from O2 - apparently it is ALREADY unlocked even though you've been assured by O2 that it is locked to their network. Just try inserting a SIM from another network to verify.
I bought it today from o2 and works fine with my 3 contract

Thanks for the quick reply guys, I took it to one of the shops in town straight away to get it unlocked and after about 40 minutes of waiting, he couldn't get an unlock code for it so just out of curiosity he tried a Vodafone sim in it and it worked fine with it and he was able to make a call. From this, I too assumed that it was already unlocked but when I try my Three sim in it, it won't find the network :/ and the sim is definitely working because when I replace it in my temporary phone, it works fine. I also then found out that O2 and Vodafone have linked networks, so I assumed that's why it worked on the Vodafone sim but not my three one, pretty damn confused haha

Hmm that's interesting, and only adds to the confusion :/
Right, so my replacement three sim has just become active (needed a micro sim instead of my normal sim) and it still wont work in my N4, but does work in my spare phone. No idea what's going on.
Never mind, it's decided to work now, thanks for the info.
So I got a nexus 4 from o2 store coming from a gnex.
Orange have sent me a micro sim to replace my normal sim and it's been activated and everything is working perfect except for the network is being displayed weird it shows as a long line of @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
If I put my wife's orange micro sim in it displays perfect as EE like it should do.
Orange are sending another sim to try but thought I'd ask if any one knows why it's showing weird for my new sim but shows fine for my wife.
I've checked the build number of the phone compared to the ones from play store and it is the same so its definately unlocked ( obviously for orange sims to work in it anyway )

Hey I just bought my Nexus4 for about 2 weeks ago and switched over my straight talk ATT sim.and this is what happen I saw a post on Craigslist about a Galaxy Note 2 for 450 bucks so I met with the guy and wanted to make sure the phone was in good conditions.so basically I tried putting my Sim card to see if it work and it did and next I asked him if I could call ATT to confirm if the phone was not reported stolen or lost. Of course he said no he didn't have time. 20 minutes later I try to place a call and I said I got blocked from network on my nexus and to call my service provider which is straight talk which they told me my phone basically is bricked. The thing is I don't have another sim card to test out my phone at the moment so is it possible that I am possibly brick by network or is my sim thats blocked from network

Not quite sure what you mean..... Did you switch back to the nexus 4 after inserting your sim into the Note II?? It sounds like one of three things happened...
1 The Note II was stolen and hence locked your sim/AT&T from accessing the network
2 The Note II was opened in his name for less than a month and he sold the phone to make a profit and did not pay his bill. (most likely)
3 The Note II was Imei blocked from working on AT&T network because of #1 or #2
What i would do is try and get my money back if you purchased the phone or you can buy a new sim and call customer service and ask if they can reprogram the new sim with the old sim information.... Good luck man!!

Yeah it turns out that the note 2 was blacklisted and was not allowed on at&t no more but that's why I did not buy it.but the sad part is they disabled my Sim card when I was testing it to see if it work.i Thought they brick my phone because the error it give me when place a call with my phones Sim card and what the straight talk customer service person told me .and the good thing I tried my friends Sim card and every thing was good.

Hey Guys
I bought my Nexus 4 the other day. Its my 2nd android phone still don't know much about android I switched from an iPhone to android. When I received my nexus 4 It had a MicroSIM card slot so I took the SIM from my HTC One which I cut myself from a template (works fine on the HTC One) and I Inserted It and It said Emergency calls only. I've tried flashing some roms but It didn't work. So I called up my carrier and asked them for an actual MicroSIM that was by them and they sent me one with the same Phone Number. But still No Luck with It. Any help?
Thanks

If the cards are cut from a regular SIM, you will have issues as the N4 is very picky about SIM cards. Search the forums, people have reported this issue. Only way around it is to use micro sim that are not cut from regular sims.
I hope you bought this brand new....

I had the same problem before. Cut my old sim card and it didn't work on N4. (The N4 was straight out of the box). It works on other phones though. So, I got myself a replacement micro sim for the previously cut sim but it still didn't work.
In the end, I went back to the service provider, bought a new sim (from the same provider, only different number), cut it to micro size, pops it in and voila! It works.
I was like, "eh?! You've got to be kidding me!". So yeah, my conclusion back then was that my N4 hates the old number. Hahahaha

Today I noticed my Nexus 4 has no signal. Things I have tried included:
Rebooting the phone multiple times
Turning on roaming and resetting APN
Checking the sim card
Switching sim cards with my brother, in which my phone was not working with his sim card either. I guess this mean's the problem is my phone.
I bought the phone on Craigslist about 3 months ago in October of last year. Seller seemed reliable. Gave me her phone number and was willing to make the transaction in a public place in front of cameras.
My brother and I have both been using T-mobile before their big contract cancellation reimbursement offer.
I still have an IMEI number
So does anyone know what's the problem with this and how I can fix it?
Have you phoned you're carrier and made sure the phone hasn't been reported stolen or missing as you would still have an IMEI number but that number would be turned off all mobile networks.
If its not been reported and you have tried everything you say like APN e.t.c its probably a hardware fault.
Have you tried phoning her to make sure her numbers legitimate and weather she knows of any possible problems ?.

According to T-mobile tech support, the previous owner stopped making payments to pay off the phone so now it's shut off.
You won't be able to get the phone back on data then unfortunately.
I also think 3 months is to long to open up a dispute with PayPal ( if you paid via them).
You can try contacting her for help.
If not you will have to put it down as a mistake you won't do again.
Feel sorry for you though.
