[Q] Is it okay to update my SGY to latest firmware?

Does upgrading my SGY to new firmware will delete all my files?
BDW is this applicable with customs rom,kernels etc?
Device name: GALAXY y (GT-S5360)
Android Version: 4.1.1
Baseband version: S5360DXKK2
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7 Merruk [email protected]

when you update via ota no files are deleted and updating to latest version is always good thing to do.

The firmware updates are usually for stability, new kernels etc. These firmwares updates are not applicable to custom roms.
Nope data isn't lost in OTA updates. Not sure about the KIES ones but I reckon they wont do anything bad.

I think you're going to apply the OTA Updates for the ROM you're using. Am I right? Well, you can apply it SAFELY by following instructions carefully.

aw. so its not applicable to custom ROMS?? ohhhww men i guess i wont do the update.

No, i use KIES to update. But some1 told me that kies is not applicable with custom ROM is it true? can you give me some link on how to update my firmware using ODIN (if it is possible)?
the latest firmware of GT-S5360 is PDA:LL1 / PHONE:LL1 / CSC:LL1 (SMA). but mine is XTC im really confused. xD

Really? Because I update my phone through my settings then software update. But I don't use OTA update in my Rom

I try to update my Samsung S4 using KIES but get the error GTI9505 does not support initialising.
When I dial *#1234#
I get the following version information
AP: I9505XXUDMH8
CP: I9505XXUDMH8
CSC : I9505OXXDMHA
Can you tell me how I can update my phone?

Conect ur phone to Kies and make a pic attaching it here.
*EDIT: You don't need press TOOLS -> FIRMWARE UPGRADE & INITIALIZATION. When you conect ur phone to the pc and open Kies, the updates jump automatically

i bought a used galaxy s4 GT-I9505
it was already upgraded to 4.4.2 but i wanted to root it
i tried to root it via Odin but failed possibily I TRIED WITHOUT ENABLING DEBUGGING MODE
now kies says
"kies 3 don't support your device"
i tried "FIRMWARE UPGRADE AND INITIALISATION"
but it says your device don't support initialisimg...
Plz plz plz help me,,,,,,
ODIN will not work for sure give me a way out of it plzzzzzzzzz

Region: United Arab Emirates

1. Log in and download this firmware: HERE
2. Follow this guide (forget Step 1 in Tutorial) for flash it: HERE

Go to sammobile and download your firnware and flash with the odin or update via kies...

Thanks for the responce guys but downloading from SamMobile gives only few KB/s which will take ages to download i was able to download

If your phone is not locked u can install any region firmware By doing so, you will break the link between the phone's Product Code and its firmware CSC.
This means you will not get Kies updates.

Im totally a newbee, by mistake i rooted my phone first time with different build Id, My grand prime G530H Build ID ktu84p g530hxcu1a0a2 i want to unroot it back and install this build firmware, can anyone pls give me the link and tutorial for installing it again.
