I've grabbed the 4.2.2 update file and tried installing throw CWR, but I get the error 7 assert failed thing. It was because of some modified system files but i've fixed that, and now it has to do with something like /dev/block/mmc or something along those lines (i can't remember the exact error off the top of my head. I think the problem is that I have a custom kernel.
Does anyone have a CWR flash-able version of the stock 4.2.1 kernel?

You probably have installed a custom kernel. Revert to stock kernel and you'll be fine.

That was the problem. I found someone with the backup, since I didn't have 1, and I used it to restore to the stock kernel. I'm on 4.2 .2 now

Guys, can I install the 4.2.2 coming from 4.2.1 by renaming the file to update.zip and flash it through stop recovery? Im rooted btw.
Could someone enlighten me on the process of restoring the stock kernel? I have no backup.

It looks like they're right. Somewhere I got a bad stock image (I think from the Nexus10 Toolkit). Here's where I found the files that worked:
http://www.randomphantasmagoria.com/firmware/nexus-10/mantaray/.
I used the Nexus10 Toolkit to reinstall the 4.2 firmware and then the 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 update zips.
Good luck!

There was an older, broken factory 4.2 image that wouldn't update to 4.2.1, but they updated the link on their site now. In any case, if you have Android SDK set up properly, you can literally just double-click a batch file included with the factory image, wait, and be restocked.
The fun part is just setting up Android SDK (which should be done instead of toolkits )

Flash the stock kernel. You can do it a number of ways. You can find a cwm zip file with it, use the toolkit to do it, or get the IMG yourself and flash it via fast boot. I had this error earlier.
Install a custom recovery and use it to run the update. If you already have a custom recovery, then that's why you can't run the ota via google possibly.

Any guides on this? Pretty new to android.
Anyone have any thoughts on what I should do?
Did you touch any of your system apps?
Seems more likely your update didn't download fully and it failed and md5 checksum. Just try again next time.
I don't think I touched any of the system apps. I did download Adblock and six axis tool. Anything else to look for?
I've downloaded the update probably 4 different times now and same thing each time.
Anything else I can try?

Any other options besides resetting? has no one else who only rooted and unlocked run into this problem???
I didn't change any system apps, and for rooting purposes the only apps I downloaded where Titanium Backup, Sixaxis and Stickmount. Should I remove those?
and OT Rootkeeper. Do I remove root first?

I was getting exactly the same as you Foxman2k, about the unverified whole-file signature when trying the OTA way. I've just followed the advice of the above linked thread and it worked fine. I had to install Quick Boot (Reboot) to get in to Recovery, then update from SD Card, then ensure signature verification is disabled, then select the downloaded .zip file. I did have RootKeeper active, but I don't really understand what that does so not sure if it made any difference.

I finally managed to get mine to go through, am rooted but running stock and was getting the error with build.prop.
Then it hit me, I am in tablet mode with my screen at 160, so I set it back to 213 and boom it went through.
HTH
Can you please help me answer how to install OTA updated with CWM installed. I get this error saying the installation aborted .. it boots into CWM
is there any step by step method to get the new update on nexus 4
Thanks
you need stock rom, no modifications made, and stock kernel for it to work
Download and extract the original 4.2 and fastboot flash system system.img and it'll restore all missing apps.. I had to do it earlier to allow the system to install the update

update manually.
So I got my update but it keeps failing during install. I'm rooted and every time the update starts it kicks over to CWM recovery and stops with a message something like, "do you want to install this untrusted zip file" I say yes but it still fails. I have even tried to manually install the update through CWM but that fails too. My N7 is rooted but otherwise stock, I have not removed any stock apps or flashed roms or kernels so WTF must I do???
Did you not read the posts above yours? CWM recovery is not stock.

I don't know where, but I saw a few posts about working updates to 4.2.1 with CWM recovery.
However, I'm not getting it to work.
How do I get rid of the recovery without loosing the root?
If you are on Windows I find the Nexus 4 Toolkit to be super easy to use. I flashed a stock recovery so I could get the update. Unfortunately, I forgot I had made changes to the stock weather widget so I can't apply the update anymore because of a missing geniewidget.odex file.
You will need to be fully stock to get the update to take as posted earlier in this thread. This is a well known requirement when doing OTA

Hey,
got an Error over here with stock recovery and root.
However, tengen says he made it with CWM and root - maybe it's because I'm using stuff like Busybox or the Pimp my Rom APK?
EDIT: I think its because of the %-BatteryMod I'm using. I'll try to flash the custom rom.
Greetings

No, never. I just wiped the phone and installed stock 4.2.2 using the Toolkit and now it won't boot.
EDIT: I guess that's because the Toolkit doesn't support 4.2.2. Oh well just flashed it using ADB. Hope I can get all my app data back...
I just started using the Nexus 7 (WiFi) and I am on 4.2.1 and I am rooted. I rooted with the Wug's Toolkit. Anyway I want to update to 4.2.2 and I don't want to use any custom rom's, I just want to have an original update that I can flash without having to unroot. I have flashed my nexus with Clockwork Mod Recovery. Any places were I can get this rom and how I can install it?
Help Please!!

That's because you are using a custom recovery. You can either flash a stock recovery or edit some files in the zip so you can flash it in the custom recovery.

Possibly, but probably not. In most of the reports that have been coming in - when the users actually report the full error message rather than saying something ambiguous like "I got a Status 7 error" - the problems revolve around altered/removed files in /system, or having a custom kernel (boot or LNX partition) installed. That suggests that the recovery version is not causing assert() failures.
The other thing to rememder is that the program that is interpreting the edify updater-script is the "updater-binary" program which is shipped inside the OTA - so it is virtually identical independent of the choice of recovery (other than perhaps kernel behavior differences).

Even though what you are saying here does only require being able to operate a plain-text editor and a zip tool, it's way above the heads of most folks who think that OTAs should work on non-stock ROMs. And I'm not sure how these folks would be better off with partially-patched ROMs. In any event, if this course is taken indeed a custom recovery would need to be used for this, as modifying the zip contents will break the OTA package signing, so the stock recovery couldn't be used.
The OP should just
- make a full nandroid backup of what they have now
- download the factory 4.2.2 images from Google
- extract the system.img file and boot.img images
( hint for windoze users: 7-zip understands .tgz files)
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
- reflash a basic SuperSU or Superuser root kit
Sort of crude, but it's a decent hack for the lazy or poorly informed. It won't "erase my data", but presumably it will break whatever it was that altered the stock system and/or boot partitions - the very things that are causing the OTA to fail on them with their rooted & modified ROMs.
If they don't like the result, they can simply restore their nandroid backup.
I have stickmount installed and that has altered these files!
I reading instructions from here
So can anyone post the debuggerd file and build.prop from Nexus 7 (2012) Android 4.3.
Thank you in advance!

I'm having the same issue, I installed kitkat sound effects on 4.3 and now my update won't work. So I'm now redownloading a full cwm flashable stock jwr66y stock build, which is what I've been running. Going to reinstall, and clear cache. I'll let you know if it works
EDIT: didn't work just failed on something else, couldn't tell what because the error was too long. Very frustrating

I solved my problem by flashing just the system image only from 4.3, using Nexus Root Toolkit advance tools, to my nexus 7 and then the update worked.
I am using a linux system, so using the NRT isn't an option for me. It would still be very helpful if someone could post the stock debuggerd.
Well, I ended up extracting the file I needed from the system.img that I downloaded from the correct stock image found here. After extracting the correct image, I had to compile and install simg2img following the instructions found here so that I could mount the system.img to a folder and pull the debuggerd file. Once I did that, I used Dropbox to transfer the file to my tablet, root explorer to correctly place and permission it and the rest was history (actually, I had to do the same thing to restore the stock boot animation - really, google?). I tried to upload the resulting file (as it was, as a .tar.gz and as a .tar) but the upload kept failing without any kind of helpful error message, so I'm giving up.

I am currently running Nexus 7 (2012) Wifi Android 4.3 Build JWR66Y rooted with CWM and stick mount but when I try to update Android 4.4 OTA it fails on status 7 system bin debuggered. As I was able to just run the Android 4.3 OTA when I upgraded from Android 4.2.2 without any problems this Android 4.4 update is certainly very frustrating. Since I am still a newbie at this could you please provide a step by step of how you got this to work using NRT? Did you have to unroot before installing the update and then reinstall all your apps after? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
