[Q&A] About Roms,Recoveries,Kernels and...

Recently I installed a custom rom (oxygen) on my Huawei X5 (U8800H) for first time and it was so easy therefore I have some questions before flashing another rom:
1. What is the difference between installing rom and force upgrade? (not in the method)
2. If I make a force upgrade (official GB for example) why I can't return to the stock rom simply by formatting the system and restore the backup rom?
3. Does the rom I want to install depend on the stock rom? If yes, How?
4. What is the best JB rom for IDEOS X5 that it is suitable for daily usage? (I have searched JB roms but I didn't find any stable rom)
5. If I flashed a rom customized for another phone on my U8800, does this brick it?(whether it is working or not)
6. If I flashed a kernel customized for another phone on my U8800 or a kernel with a version dosen't customized for the rom, does this brick the phone? Or can I change the kernel if it didn't work?
7. What is the directory of kernal's files? and dose it came with some roms? (zip rom)
In the stock rom the kernel version is 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1 but in oxygen it is 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #221 dose this mean there is something changed in the kernal?
8. Roms like ICS dzo's Aurora require official update to GB , is it necessary if I flashed official GB kernal or any same version kernel?
If you can answer any question of those above, I'll be very grateful. Thanks.
Ill answer the questions i can:
3: it depends on the kernel. Froyo(2.2?) have 3.0 and gingerbread have 3.5, so you can only install 3.0 roms on a froyo phone and 3.5 roms on a gingerbread phone.
4: It isnt any stable JB roms yet but for ICS dzo's Aurora is very stable and mosterras Elora is said to be very stable to even tho i havent tryed it yet.
5: yes, it will brick if you flash a rom for another phone.
It also depends on the flavor of U8800 (plain, Pro or -51). We really need a sticky post about this at the top of this forum.
Yeah, I totally agree with you there. It's something its really easy to get wrong.

custom rom
The best is custom rom not official roms
In the official CWM 5.0.2.6 recovery I installed oxygen rom and every thing was normal but their is a problem with the official CWM recovery. When I want to restore a previous backup for the same rom or the sock one, this appears:
Code:
Checking MD5 sums...
MD5 mismatch!
1.Must I change the recovery?if yes, which one must be installed?
2.Is every rom have its customized recovery?

Can I try different recoveries (.img) to see which one would work? or it may harm the device?
Thanks

I don't think it will help changing the recovery if you are you using the same recovery for r restoring as you did when you made it, but I don't think it will harm you're device.

[Q] I'm looking for a stable ROM to defy mb525

Hello. I have motorola defy, and my first custom rom is gingerbread 2.3.6. On this rom i can play games like modern combat 2 but i have lots reboots when i start too much apps (3). And i be angry on this rom and i wanna change it. And i do it, i flash on my defy custom rom ice cream sandwitch 4.0.4 and i try to play mc2. **** i cannot do that! When i start missiin i kill 3 guys and have error "Application modern combat 2... must be close" or enything else, sorry i don't remember all words in error and it' s difficult to translate from Polish to English. My friend told me "android 2.3.4 is the best, smooth and stable rom" but i wanna find custom rom on this android and kernel with flash player because i wanna play galaxy life on facebook and this game is only on app store in apple. Plese help me with custom roms, i thinks overcloking on my defy is bad because when i over clock from 800mhz to 1000mhz (on gingerbread 2.3.6) my defy reboot himself. Please help me guys
Overclocking on my defy is not bad, clock from 800MHz to 1000Mhz. Im on 1000Mhz.... Try MIUI or WIUI these are stable.
Try Cyanogenmod 7.2 by Maniac
Here's the Download link

You will also need these Gapps

WIUI Stable.
Hello,
I'm using CM10 of quarx latest ROM and let it run from 300MHz up to 1200MHz.
Look at quarx.ru/ there CM10-2ndboot-nightly-defy(+)
It is for all kind of defy.
You also can find older and stable ROM's.
Sent from my MB525 using cm10-20121205-nightly-mb526.zip and

You can use the ROM of Epsylon or Quarx 4.0.4 or 4.1.2 , they are stable. I have -10% accu per night. Undervolted low speed CPU and off all not needed. Some days no charger, ok for me. I use now 300/20, 600/30, 800/40 and 1000/50. I have GB accidently.
The new 2ndboot 525/526 CM10 of Quarx give you 4 steps. For longer accu go lower with the steps, exept 300MHz!

I ran WhiteRabbit 1.52 for 6 months, nice rom and stable. After a few tries with WR1.7 and 2.0, I'm in love with WIUI stable GB. Very stable, smooth, overclocked (1100 mhz by default on my d+) and nice design.

+1. Fantastic ROM
wiui is the best
OK, stupid question: What is "wiui"?
just get CM7.2 stable from the official website. It couldnt get any more stable than that.
You have some options: install a stable CM7.2 or (because none of the CM10 is not stable by now) you can try a mix between a last CM10 of your choice and the 18.11 Quarx kernel.

[ROM Patch] Flash 4.x Rom on 2.x Base

If you wanna stay on GB and don't update to ICS so you can flash CM10 or CM10.1 with this patch you can flash i think any rom based on ICS to GB base...
The process is very easy
1)You have to be on GB base check your baseband, you need 404020
2)Reboot to CWM and make the proper wipes
3)Flash the ICS based rom like you do until now *DON'T REBOOT*
4)After flashing gapps or not flash this patch
5)Then reboot
This is not 100% sure that the rom you will flash will work properly with this patch try and see!!!
I want to do the opposite thing..lol any way to use GB without flashing official GB again?

Yes you can! I did this when i went back to CM7 from cuvetto JB.
Just flash the zip with the GB rom and then flash the file to install the 404020 baseband, done. ( vice versa from GB to ICS or JB just flash the rom and then the 404029 baseband zip, wich i suppose is the file provided by pika in this guide )
( i found the zip file for 404020 and 404029 baseband here somewere in the forum, but now i do not find them anymore. so i am uploading those for who needs them)
404029 baseband ICS or JB zip
404020 baseband GB zip
This patch is working great, thanks to pika ...
I just return back to Stallion from Rittik's CM10 v2.0 .
I appreciate Rittik's work, but this rom is not for me , the only think which is good is only it's beauty and nothing else.
I'm so sorry but i'm very disappointed with cm10, i thought it was better according the posts from other guys.
Anyway now i have my opinion ...
Regards ...

Dont flash those the changes on GB to ICS it isnt only on 5-10 library files...all other folder in root where do you think they came??we flash only /system/ but there are hundred more files in the phone!!
The proper way to go to GB from ICS is to flash step2 from official GB and from GB to ICS step1 and step2

We really can flash roms on GB base too without this patch but the problem is it messes up the baseband and the netowork stuffs like no cellular network and 3G. Else all works flawlessly. So u can manually change baseband and try without using patch too..i never did try tho..i just flashed some 2.3 based Miui on My CM10 as base and had the network issues..

[Q] best roms

hi,
i want to ask who is the more stable roms for Ideos X5? (not the pro)
i want a stable and fast rom, and if it is possible not take all the battery.
for fast rom it is better to stay in android 2.3? or i can have and good results with 4.x?
the 4.x roms need more memory from the 2.3?
Thanks for any answer

in the past i have try this:
CyanogenMod 7.2 for Ideos X5 (u8800) by exet
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527745
and it is working but i want to try and newer roms.
So today i have try the AuroraSP.
I have recovery 5.0.2.8 (and i have try with 5.0.2.7)
I have make full wipe (data, cache, dalvik)
I have install AuroraSP V4R
but then in the boot screen i have see only the huawei logo. The rom not start.
I have do something wrong?
there is a problem to switch from ezet CM72 to auroraSP?
i have try to go and to Aurora ICS 4.0.4 v5 but the problem remain.

How about speed and battery about ezetCM7 and AuroraSP? it is similar or not?
Also you have any idea what is wrong in my previous post?

Hello, first of all you should install official 2.3 gingerbread from Huawei and root it. After that you should be able to install aurora without problem.

Speed is better on Aurora that's for sure and about battery i don't remember well i don't have CM7 and haven't tried anymore more than 1 year but drains a little more if you use 2G and turn off Wifi and then you can save battery.
If must have GB on your phone after that you should install any other custom roms since from CM7 to CM 10 and of course Aurora too. Remember when update from different kernel please format system, data and cache with together all 3 wipes.
