[Q&A] About Roms,Recoveries,Kernels and... - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Recently I installed a custom rom (oxygen) on my Huawei X5 (U8800H) for first time and it was so easy therefore I have some questions before flashing another rom:
1. What is the difference between installing rom and force upgrade? (not in the method)
2. If I make a force upgrade (official GB for example) why I can't return to the stock rom simply by formatting the system and restore the backup rom?
3. Does the rom I want to install depend on the stock rom? If yes, How?
4. What is the best JB rom for IDEOS X5 that it is suitable for daily usage? (I have searched JB roms but I didn't find any stable rom)
5. If I flashed a rom customized for another phone on my U8800, does this brick it?(whether it is working or not)
6. If I flashed a kernel customized for another phone on my U8800 or a kernel with a version dosen't customized for the rom, does this brick the phone? Or can I change the kernel if it didn't work?
7. What is the directory of kernal's files? and dose it came with some roms? (zip rom)
In the stock rom the kernel version is 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1 but in oxygen it is 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #221 dose this mean there is something changed in the kernal?
8. Roms like ICS dzo's Aurora require official update to GB , is it necessary if I flashed official GB kernal or any same version kernel?
If you can answer any question of those above, I'll be very grateful. Thanks.

Ill answer the questions i can:
3: it depends on the kernel. Froyo(2.2?) have 3.0 and gingerbread have 3.5, so you can only install 3.0 roms on a froyo phone and 3.5 roms on a gingerbread phone.
4: It isnt any stable JB roms yet but for ICS dzo's Aurora is very stable and mosterras Elora is said to be very stable to even tho i havent tryed it yet.
5: yes, it will brick if you flash a rom for another phone.

It also depends on the flavor of U8800 (plain, Pro or -51). We really need a sticky post about this at the top of this forum.

Yeah, I totally agree with you there. It's something its really easy to get wrong.

custom rom
The best is custom rom not official roms

In the official CWM 5.0.2.6 recovery I installed oxygen rom and every thing was normal but their is a problem with the official CWM recovery. When I want to restore a previous backup for the same rom or the sock one, this appears:
Code:
Checking MD5 sums...
MD5 mismatch!
1.Must I change the recovery?if yes, which one must be installed?
2.Is every rom have its customized recovery?

2. Gingerbread roms use 5.0.2.6 recovery and ICS roms use 5.5 (and 2 more numbers) recovery. So it only depends on the base of the rom you are flashing.

Can I try different recoveries (.img) to see which one would work? or it may harm the device?
Thanks

I don't think it will help changing the recovery if you are you using the same recovery for r restoring as you did when you made it, but I don't think it will harm you're device.

[Q] [q] cm9/ics/gapps - defy+ 2.3.6 kernal

[Q] hello sir,
Do own Defy+2.3.6 (ryt now using MS2Ginger 3 by walter79 ), want to use CM9/ICS, downloaded zip CM9-NIGHTLY-120112-Defy+.zip & CM9 kernel. kindly suggest proper installation procedure and info abt the ics gapps versions which one to use. i dont want to use other kernal rather than 2.3.6 can i flash CM9 on stock rom
waiting for ur humble replies ☻thanks in advance☻
God bless you All.
Why don't you want to use the Froyo kernel? I wouldn't use this nightly. You can't even phone with it! If you have BL6, flash the BL6-SBF with Froyo-kernel.
Don't use the flashlight until you flashed the CM7-kernel, you could burn it with the Chinese kernel of this SBF.
Then root the phone with the latest SuperOneClick and (after backup) follow my instructions here. Use the latest CM9-zip, ICS-Google-apps and the CM7-kernel(NOT the CM9-kernel) instead of the zips in that post. If you want to have the Motorola-Bootlogo back, also flash the attached Red_M_Logo.zip, or use my CM9-Bootlogo.zip. Flash the CM9-Music.zip if you want to use the new CM9 music app (it's very good, i can recommend it).
If you have BL7, i would wait until eppy makes a build for the Defy+ kernel.
thanks for your replies,
please let me know checking battery version ( bl5,bl6,bl7 ),my defy mfg. date is dec 2011 , details on battery HF5X, b052r984-1001, model L-L-L- DC111109.
and CM9 GB kernel is available so why not to use it, hope u clear my mind.

defy + wont be able to get update of 4.0 do not even try for this
I have a Defy+ with CM9/ICS, it works!
i think i try flashing it on my stock rom... i think eppsy build for gb builds hope no downgrading is required i guess any suggestions and recommendations are welcome.
WHAT VERSION HAVE YOU FLASHED ?
I mean which build are you using with Defy+ ?
i am using stock 2.3.6 and i tried
stock/cm 7.2 nightly.
stock/ics latest builds
works well but no network on second booted rom doesnt get any network ( no EMIE )
hope some one fix this soon or some one did let me know

Did you try using basebandswitcher? Just to search for a frequency similar to your stock baseband? I think you did because default ms2ginger baseband definitely isn't what you seem to be running on stock 2.3.6...
Oh, and btdubs I think Mister Ypsilon is right about using froyo kernel builds for CM9. Your nightly doesn't seem to be too stable.
*EDIT
Oh and veeranna don't forget, BL version (BL5/6/7) is not your battery version. It's the version of the bootloader, and it is very important when it comes to downgradeability.
search it up, I don't do a very good job of explaining bootloader stuff.
Its awesome but lil buggy
I did it! Installed Froyo SBF, rooted, 2nd init, then CM9 for Defy, CM7 kernel, slept at 5A.M :O and bingo there was a pretty stable ICS but without camera! After playing around with it for few hours.. Tested NFS Shift, Angry Birds and everything was smooth as butter except that there was no Camera due to which I restored it back using a full SBF flash and my Nandroid backup
Can be used if you don't need a camera..!
I have a Defy+ flashed with stock 2.3.6 SBF en.asia
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20097916&postcount=3
Check this it is working fine. Tested on my moto after a full fresh Defy+ 2.3.6 SBF flash.
There are more stable roms built by quarx and epsylon3 in the defy development thread. Camera works and camcorder works for some users. These devs are geniuses.

Huawei U8800 - Help w/ Oxygen Rom

Hey!
This is my first post here. I'm kinda new to this ( started 2 days ago ), when I came across Oxygen ROM for u8800 and gave it a try.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1149150
I have CWM v5.5.0.4 and installed a .zip from sdcard, the latest one... I also wiped data, cache partition and dalvik cache, but when I rebooted the phone, it just stayed on Huawei screen ( a red flower with HUAWEI written under it ) and kept rebooting on like 5 minutes... I restored the previous rom using CWM and tried again with no success...
Can somebody help me with this? Is this happening because the ROM is not being maintained anymore, or is there any other problem? I also installed AURORA ICS 4.0.3 successfully with the same method I used with OXYGEN
I would be grateful for any help
Best Regards, Erik
if you have the official gingerbread update from huawei installed, oxygen wont work. It uses an older kernel which is based on the froyo default rom.

So does that mean: If i have upgraded my u8800 tp 2.3.5 Oxygen wont work :/
P.s.: Can you recommend any roms for my Huawei u8800 for daily use, because i'm a bit bored of the Huawei Launcher...

if you really want to use oxygen you can downgrade and re root your device/install a froyo compatible recovery and use oxygen: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369296
that has the down grade instructions
and here is a link to the recovery to install any froyo kernel based rom:http://dl.xda-developers.com/attach...159a3/7/8/7/4/1/2/recovery5.0.2.7_en_sys1.zip
i would personally recommend ICS Aurora for daily use its made by dzo who made oxygen port and it gets an update multiple times a week even though its perfectly stable at the moment it just keeps getting better but oxygen is a 100% stable and clean rom thats been around for a while now if thats what you are looking for

If it is just the launcher, just change it for one on the market. I am not sure how much difference there will be between official gingerbread and oxygen gingerbread. Try Aurora as suggested above or sbasil miui.us for something really different.
im on oxygen for about 6 months (is oxygen that "old" already?), and am very satisfied with it..
plan to change to aurora soon as these 2 roms are both from dzo, who is a "legend" as referred from xda's editors..
anyway i would recommend any rom from dzo as it seems that his main focus is on rom stability and cleanliness, which is what matters to daily users imho..

[Q] [HELP] Downgrading to froyo kernel WIUI

I've really searched everywhere but it's too complicated and i can't seem to find a solution.
So, my issue is that i have installed the ICS CM9 with GB kernel, but i want to install the WIUI 2.4.20 Stable (GB) version that is based on MiuiAndroid 2.3.7 (GB).
I am assuming it requires the Froyo kernel, and if so, i need to somehow downgrade it to froyo before installing it, but i don't know hot to do it...
can anyone please help me?
Also the kernel version of my rom is "2.6.32.9-g21f1a48"
Questions go in the Q&A section

as far as i remember 32 is froyos kernel..(35 is gb's kernel)
so what is the problem???
Numbers are the same I thought. If you flashedthe gingerbread kernel from the recovery, just search for the froyo kernel zip (there is one on epsy's site) and flash it with the froyo based ROM.
Don't forget to wipe.

Hello, I read on a lots of topic that say we have to pass on nandroid and other thing for downgrade.. so i want to be sure that i can downgrade my gb kernel to froyo kernel juste like this..
When i read that, that or that for me it is impossible directly...
Thank you.

is it just like move zip to sd card and flash it, dont i need to wipe caches or anything? just choose and flash?

hi,
i want to ask who is the more stable roms for Ideos X5? (not the pro)
i want a stable and fast rom, and if it is possible not take all the battery.
for fast rom it is better to stay in android 2.3? or i can have and good results with 4.x?
the 4.x roms need more memory from the 2.3?
Thanks for any answer

CyanogenMod 7.2 for Ideos X5 (u8800) by exet
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527745
and it is working but i want to try and newer roms.
So today i have try the AuroraSP.
I have recovery 5.0.2.8 (and i have try with 5.0.2.7)
I have make full wipe (data, cache, dalvik)
I have install AuroraSP V4R
but then in the boot screen i have see only the huawei logo. The rom not start.
I have do something wrong?
there is a problem to switch from ezet CM72 to auroraSP?
i have try to go and to Aurora ICS 4.0.4 v5 but the problem remain.

hi
thanks for this, i have use ezet's CM 7.2 and it is good.
I have see that you have use AuroraSP (in your signature).
How about speed and battery about ezetCM7 and AuroraSP? it is similar or not?
Also you have any idea what is wrong in my previous post?
thanks a lot
Hello, first of all you should install official 2.3 gingerbread from Huawei and root it. After that you should be able to install aurora without problem.
There is a thread on the developer section on how to install and root official Rom.

Speed is better on Aurora that's for sure and about battery i don't remember well i don't have CM7 and haven't tried anymore more than 1 year but drains a little more if you use 2G and turn off Wifi and then you can save battery.
If must have GB on your phone after that you should install any other custom roms since from CM7 to CM 10 and of course Aurora too. Remember when update from different kernel please format system, data and cache with together all 3 wipes.
