[Q] How to install kernel? - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Hi,
I would like to get specific instructions in installing kernels, which i couldn't find anywhere.
I just installed CWM and want to install forumber2's kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1912714
is it just like move zip to sd card and flash it, dont i need to wipe caches or anything? just choose and flash?
thanks

You should wipe cache first.. but you want to flash a kernel over and official rom? why dont you try a custom one?

I have done as that, but now the problem is cm9 has no signal in this way
I'm have not tried to flash cm9 coming from miui.
I just did the usual way, wipe everything and then instal .zip from SD.
If you want to instal builds, newer than 111207 you need to flash 111207 first.
hope this helped, greetz Esok
edit: I also had problems with the net while using multiboot.
Newer builds 111207 cant be used with multiboot. But in my opinion 111211 is good enough to use everyday

Ics rrom

Hi everyone. Im right now in Gb rooted android, and i want to try Ics.
Any suggestion of wich rom install? I looking for the best perfomance and not

And other question, if a do now in gb, a cwm backup, can i restore later if

I must first back to my rom and kernel (one time i am in ics) to restore the cwm backup or if im on ics can i restore de gb backup??
Thanks in advance.

To me i like lp9 ics. When in ics do not use the cmw to restore it will break your phone just flash the gb via pc odin if dont like the ics.
or u can try CM9 based roms like Asylum or ParanoidAndroid
If your in ics dont factory reset or recovery data wipe. Very important reminder.
Ok

No they are based on CM9, so they are safe. But, flash them from GB or another CM9 rom, not ICS official roms.
They don't have s pen button abilities as that is samsung framework.

Many people hardbreak their phone when they flash the paranoid rom while running in ics. Read carefully before flashing. As andrew88 said flash it in gb paranoid and cm9.

I think all of custom rom do not use s pen abilities only stock ics.

But you still might not get the button functions. The button does in fact work in Papyrus though.
But, the button won't work in the ROM itself because its not Touchwiz.

thanks for the clearup ... im not an avid user of the s-pen by the way ..
i did install catch and freenote just to get a feel of it but the apps dont stay long in my note
imo paranoid is the best looking rom but some apps dont run with it so i come back to official lpy with speedmod kernel it is good too.

I'm using CleaNote 1.02, very easy to install if you are already rooted and have CWM recovery. Just copy the zip file to the sdcard and flash it from CWM recovery.
It's ICS LQ3 with speedmod K3-3 kernel (safe). Everything works, and you have all Samsung apps (although I disabled most of them).

What's the most vanilla ICS rom for Note?

Hello,
How are you?
I am a bit tired of Touchwiz and some lag on the phone, so I would like to switch ROMS.
So, I was wondering what is the most pure vanilla ICS 4.0.4 ROM for the Note, wich is stable and has the fewest know issues?
I am sorry for this thread, but there are so many roms developed that it is really hard to choose.
CHeers and thanks!

Well, Paranoid Android is a fantastic ROM for the Samsung Galaxy Note, as it offers a near-ICS experience that allows for both tablet and phone modes. Try it out!

For an ICS ROM you need to use an ICS kernel. But Paranoid comes packaged with the kernel. By the sound of it you are on GB at the moment. If it's already rooted, do a full wipe then flash Paranoid and the GApps package from the same thread.
If you are already on ICS, do not do full wipe until you have read up on how to do it.

Any downsides to this ROM?
I am currently on stock Note, with ICS 4.0.3 and stock kernel. Not rooted.
Would a kernel like Speedmod work better with the nightly rom? Or is a stock GB kernel better?
Whichever rom I choose, I need to use PC Odin to revert to GB before flashing anything, right?
Cheers and thanks!
Why would anyone use cm9 If Paranoid Android is the same with much more features..
You cant use any tw kernels like speedmod. Cm9 need cm9 kernels
can i install Paranoid Android from ICS through Abyss 4.2 kernel ?
i want the safe steps to install ...........

So I cannot use modded kernels with Paranoid?
So the best way would be PC Odin to stock GB, full wipe then install Paranoid?
Would that give the best performance?
Cheers!
You can install it from ics if you want.
download Abyss Kernel 4.2
copy Kernel and PA Rom and Gapps Files to your internal SDCard
boot into Recovery
Flash Abyss Kernel 4.2
boot back in Recovery (to find under "advanced")
Factory Reset
Wipe Dalvik Cache (under "advanced")
Flash PA Rom
Flash GAPPS
reboot system

You can use modded kernels with PA, but only cm based ones like AniDroid/bbq etc.. and not the touchwiz ones like speedmod/franco.
To install, follow what the post above says, or as you mentioned use Odin to go back to gb, root/install cwm, full wipe then install Paranoid Android.

As stated above cm9 only uses cm9 based kernel, you don't have to worry about that, it will install itself when you flash the ROM.

Because not everyone like tablet mod, I've tried PA but returned to cm9 because the phone UI is more suitable for the note .
And then there is the faster update cycle of cm9.

Just my two cents: I found PA to be super buggy in comparison to CM9, the boot splash didn't fit the screen and the UI lagged a lot more, some of the apps were great in tablet mode, but CM9 feels overall far more suited to the Note.

If you want a true Vanilla experience install the 4.04 Stock Rom, you will find the there are now a lot of people using it, it is stable, fast and the battery life has improved. There is a large difference between 4.03 and 4.04 official ROMS.
I have been using it since it came out and I find that it beats everything else I have tried. On the down side the 4.04 kernel still contains the EMMC Bug so I cannot do a full wipe without reverting back to GB.

If you want to install CM7 (.32) you need to downgrade to froyo but if you want (.35) you can install it over Aurora.
Sorry but can I ask why to revert back to froyo from Aurora?

That would not work.
Find official froyo
Unzip it and put into your sdcard like /dload/update.app
Close your phone.
Press vol+ vol- and power and keep until update screen.
After the successful froyo downgrade root it.
Copy cwm
Install cm7.
That simple.

There are atleast three dev topics in the forum. One from genokolar and if i am not wrong there is a kernel dev for ezet's cm7.2 .32 by Paul*.
But... All of them are onhold or ended dev. And they all have bugs. So. What i am trying to say is if you want bug free cm7 then you should try ezet's .32

Sorry, for late answer...I didn't see any major differences...actualy I was more pleased with aurora, but I always got atleast 2 reboots a day on Aurora, so thah is the reason I tried CM7.
Now I have one more question...How do I get to stock GB now? I changed recovery.img when I was installing CM7, so do I need to change recovery.img to stock, and then "update" with official GB, or can I just directly "update" to official GB without changing recovery.img to stock before?
Thanks for your help

ICS V2.9a has all the android features working, but tytung's JB both 4.1.2 and 4.2.2 have some features not working like tethering...etc (refer respective ROM threads)
Stable,...above ROMs are stable.
Don't ask for the fastest and problem free ROM....as performance differs from one phone to another.
(For me, both ICS and JB are fast but JB is far more smooth).
And if you don't wanna give your phone any problem stay with the stock WinMo ROM. As flashing custom ROMs always has a bit of risks involved.
