[Q] Noises - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My RAZR is making the tone I have set for my notification. I noticed it usually starts after I get off a call. Also I git a task manager and used it once I used it it stopped. Finally this just started up randomly. Hope someone could help thanks in advance.

Missed voicemail perhaps?

Thats what I thought at first but then i called myself with a different phone and didn't leave a voice mail and it still did it.

Did you ever figure out what this was? My wife's phone makes a noise randomly. Don't think it's the notification alert, but some type of sound.

Mine did this because of Yahoo mail. Even though I turned off notifications, I did not turn off the sound. I would still get the notification sound, even though I didn't get a notification in my status bar.

Ok, thanks! I'll check that!

I've been hearing my phone make some strange noises the past week or so, and I think I just figured out what it is... apparently I was resting my phone on my wallet and it was picking up the smart chip in my credit card with NFC. No notifications, just the noise. I tested it by putting my card (the corner with the little wireless symbol) about the half inch under the camera, and sure enough... every time it made a noise.
I've only noticed it in the past week or two, around the same time as I did the most recent OTA update.

Turn off Gmail vibration when I receive a new email...

I'm trying to turn off the vibration when I get a new email like I have on my Evo LTE. I don't want the phone to vibrate when I have to receive an email even if the phone is on vibrate. I don't need to be notified of the emails however when I happen to look at my phone I still want to see the icon at the top of the screen letting me know i have new emails... Is this possible? I didn't have the GS3 or any Samsung phone prior to this one so it may be a common answer to others just not me...
-I have already unchecked the Vibrate box and Notify for every message box within Gmail itself from my phone.
-It's not in Driving mode like some have stated while trying to look this up online
-I've tried to set the ring tone to silent but that didn't work
Does anyone know to accomplish this? Thanks in advance

On my GS3, in gmail settings (account not general), I have Notifications ticked, then in Inbox Sound and Vibrate I have Vibrate unticked, Sound=silent and Label Notifications ticked.
Phone doesn't ring or vibrate when an email arrives and I get an envelope icon in the notification bar

Yeah I have the same thing and my GS4 still vibrates when I have my phone on vibrate while I'm at work... I have the same set up on my Evo and it doesn't do it there however it does for whatever reason on this phone.

Glad I am not the only one struggling. Gmail needs an update maybe? I just killed sound and vibrate.

Mine finally started working for whatever reason... I had the same information that EJ stated above but it wasn't working however it is now. Don't know what changed but it is working... Make sure in the Gmail app that the sound in there is set to silent... On my Evo LTE, there is a sound there (notice) but it never goes off so who knows

didn't have this problem for about a week, but it started up in the last couple days. nothing in my setup has changed! any thoughts?
bump. this is driving me nuts, like a steering wheel in my pants.
better late than never I guess... I think I found a solution to this!
It's been driving me nuts on my Galaxy s5 and have spent the past few hours trying to get this fixed.
The solution I came up with is the following:
Set Gmail to silent and uncheck vibrate. Leave notifications on still just silent.
Download and use the light flow app to set up notifications for gmail.
Go into light flow and edit the notifications for gmail.
Enable sound and select the sound you would like to play.
Enable vibration as well.
Set the vibration pattern to 1 short vibration. This will change the vibration to a little quick chirp for an email. Much more tolerable.
OR you can do a custom vibration pattern and set the pattern to 0,0 to have no vibration at all.
Make sure to leave both the boxes "Vibrate only when silent" and "Don't vibrate when silent" both checked.
The vibrate only when silent stops any vibration when the volume is on. And I dont know if my logic is right on this but I think the "Don't vibrate when silent" acts to stop the phone from using it's normal vibration method and uses lightflow instead. Because even with this checked you will get whatever vibration you have chosen instead of what the phone typically uses.
Follow those steps and set those options and you should be good.... Try it out!
This worked for me. Hopefully it'll help you guys out too!

Ringtone/notification volume issue

I seem to be having an issue with the notifications and ringtones on my new Moto X Pure. Ringtones are 'ascending' and start out very quiet. and some notifications seem to be the same way but the tones are so short that all that ends up happening is that you don't hear them at all. It also doesn't seem to affect every app - I don't hear anything when I get a Facebook message, but emails and texts seem fine. Is there a setting somewhere that I'm missing?
Most apps have their own sound settings. Check the apps that are giving you trouble and see if there is a setting for sending ringtones.

I checked everywhere to see if you can turn this off and failed. It's something that's very annoying to me
This is a serious issue ....I am considering returning the phone because I cannot even hear my notifications ...spoke to motorola and of course they said they are not aware of any issue
.....if they would acknowledge the problem and address it in a software update I wouldn't care but since they don't even acknowledge the issue ....

That app seems to work for everything but Facebook which is fine for me. Give it a try. Hopefully once some custom roms start dropping this issue is fixed
Someone else and I are having similar issues with low volume: http://www.reddit.com/r/motox/comments/3maaw1/_/
Edit: Others experiencing the same issue on Moto's forum: https://forums.motorola.com/posts/36193b0f11

I have had ring tone volume going down to zero and not being able to adjust it 3 times now. I think I just figured out that this happens when moto assist puts it into "driving" mode and I'm wearing my bluetooth headset. Only way to fix it is to reboot the phone. So annoying!

I don't mind the ringtone volume as much as the low notification volume. It sucks. I constantly miss messages and email. The buzz sound you get from vibrate is louder than the darn notification.

This seems to be a good workaround. To get it to work check "New normalization method." I was also getting an annoying notification in the status bar that the app was waiting for a call. I was able to get rid of this by going into settings-apps-disable increasing ring and then deselecting "show notification." App still works.
Now onto trying to reduce the vibration intensity or pattern of this phone. If anyone knows how to do that, please advise. Also wish this phone had separate volume control for the ringtones and notifications.

I don't know how well this will be in the long run. But I disabled moto voice and restarted. The ascending issue is gone all around. . I will keep you posted and see if this isn't just a fluke

Im not sure if this is related but Ive noticed the ringtones are coming out on both top and bottom speakers but notification tones are onlu coming out from the bottom speaker are you having the same issue?
Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk
The workaround I'm using is to add ~2 seconds silence to the initial portion of the MP3 file for my notification MP3s. This means that during this initial 2 seconds of an MP3, while the XT1575 volume ramps up, there is nothing playing, then the actual sound plays at full volume. Works like a charm.
I use my own MP3s for notifications and ringtones. Used an old version of Goldwave to do this (and other useful things) to the MP3s, then loaded them on to phone.
If you're rooted this is the fix I through together thanks to the help of the moto x play thread. Check it out and make sure to thank the guy who created the original file

This issue is annoying to me also, moto needs to fix this quiet notification ****.

I had the same issue with every nexus 6 I had (3 of them, all returned). Motorola has something very wrong going on with the speaker hardware/config file.
For anyone who happened to install a custom ROM or the OTA Marshmallow update, do you still have this ascending ringtone issue? I cannot hear my notification sounds, but after installing the "Disable Increasing Ringtone" app, it seems to have helped for most notifications except for FB Chat Heads.
If your rooted, AICP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=63842724 has the setting built in.

Found a fix for this if you are rooted. Worked great for me to fix this bug http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/general/mod-disable-ascending-ringtone-t3218683
Still not fixed? Motorola you useless twats.
Not even fixed after the 6.0.1 update (Moto X Style, reteu version). Why is it so hard to give us a toggle for this... As much as I like this phone, there are a few quirks that will make me never buy anything non-Nexus ever again, starting this fall.

Notification sound/vibration doesn't finish playing

Hi all,
I noticed that the notification sound randomly stops playing at my MXP. Same for the vibration; it starts and then suddenly stops when I get a text for example. I've tried multiple different sounds and, of course, have rebooted the device a few times. Not sure if this is a new problem or not, but I just started to notice it. Happened both before and after updating to 6.0.

It just seems odd and doesn't happen at all with my wife's Nexus 5x. It's like the speaker suddenly dies halfway through playing a notification sound.

Yes I know. ?
But still living with that.
When 2 or 3 messages come simultaneously, then the notification tone rings only for 2nd and 3rd message and sometimes half for 1st message.

Vibrate dead

The vibrate motor on my S7E appears to have died and I am at the 2- year mark.
I always have the sound muted, so I rely on vibrate for calls and notifications.
Should I try to get this repaired, or am I better off looking for a replacement phone?

I had this happen a few times but for me it always comes back. I am sure you tried reboot, maybe clear data, cache then reboot.

WhatsApp calls are silent and don't vibrate

Hi
I'm having this issue in my Pixel 4 and my Pixel 2. WhatsApp calls are shown silently and they don't vibrate (obviously when phone is in Vibrate mode)
(It only seems to vibrate properly when the app is in foreground and I receive the call , but never vibrates when app is in background or when phone is locked. So I end up missing a lot of calls unless I'm staring at the screen when that happens).
Anybody is not facing the same issue? Or found a solution?

That was happening all day up until just a minute or so ago. Try it now, it was probably something server side messing up.

Mmm not working here. Since more than a week ago.
I'm using this version right now (i started trying beta to see if this is fixed)
version 2.19.327
And defaulted Notifications. ("Restore Notification settings" options)
Only way the incoming calls start vibrating is by having the phone unlocked with WhatsApp in foreground.

I'm going from the pixel 4 to P3 and to an iPhone. All working. I'll test more tomorrow if you're still having issues.
@thesebastian Seems like it's not the app or the device. Worldwide problems with notifications only working if app is open. Now whether they will admit it's a problem or not is another story. Tech support looks spotty at best.
