Hey so I added some words and now I kind of want to remove them. Is there any way to remove words from the dictionary that you added?
Settings> language and input> personal dictionary. Select the words and then delete them.
oh i swear i've never seen that before thanks!

Hi, This is my first post so go easy on me....
So, lately, my T9 is getting full of words that i accidentally have misspelled... For example, every time i write the word don't, the word font is displayed on the screen. It's really annoying
I Have looked under the keyboard input setting, but the only setting that is useful is the option to delete all of the dictionary that i have added.
I'm just wondering if there is a program out there that will let me edit my dictionary? I've tried a few, but, none of them use the existing dictionary of my HTC Elf.

Hi!
I contacted the Swype crew regarding this, and they replied you can only delete words you've added to the dictionary yourself. (At least this is the case in the beta version). So basically you're not allowed to edit the built-in dictionary.
The deletion itself is done by selecting the word (doubletapping on the word, or by swyping from the Swype button to the Sym button, and then using the arrow buttons to select the word). Once the word is selected, pressing the Swype button (lower left in keyboard) triggers a dialouge box that will pop-up asking if you really want to delete the selected text.
This is also one way to ADD words that are not already in the dictionary.

wow. thanks tom!!!! youre the only person to ever answer one of my questions on this whole forum. i really wish you the best of luck in everything in life lol.. god bless you good sir
I have several words that I would like to delete.
Also, is there a way to use a word without using the suggestion and NOT automatically save it to the dictionary?
Any help is appreciated!

Perfect. Thanks so much
"you have to do this through your keyboard settings.. if you are using the default keyboard
go to Settings > Language and Keyboard > touch input settings> User dictionary
There you will see a list of words it has saved. Click on any word to edit it. To delete click on to edit and simply clear out the word and hit save. If you are using a different keyboard, like Swype or Swiftkey, you will need different instructions."
Im beginning to get frustrated with htc interfering with some words i type, mainly it has lol in capitals like LOL, and a few acronyms i use, names etc keep getting replaced regardless of how many times i add them to personal dictionary. So i want to remove some of the words form the built in dictionary if there is any way
yup...
settings -> language & keyboard -> touch input settings -> personal dictionary -> edit personal dictionary -> (menu) delete
and select the words you want to delete.
Also if you want to override some of the words, you just add them to the dictionary, or I think you can just edit it in the dictionary.
Thank you ver much for the info.
Thanks for this, I saved some words which I wrote wrong accidently, and they kept coming up when I wanted the correct spelling.
I know how to remove words from the personal dictionary, I'm on about trying to remove words from htcs built in dictionary for auto correct
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
I'm really enjoying the updated android keyboard and don't think I'm going to install swype on this phone.
What I do not understand is how I can quickly add new words to the dictionary.
I know I can go into the "language and input" settings to add words, but yesterday I manually typed a word that was not in the dictionary and it asked me if I wanted to add it. What did I do different to get it to ask me to add a word to the dictionary? This will be a real time saver in the first weeks of using this device.

Type the word, it will appear in the middle of the suggestion bar (correctly recognized words will appear either side), tap on the word in the suggestion bar.

That's how I suspect it should work, though it only occasionally gives me the "tap word again to add to dictionary" option.
Though I'm noticing a pattern to words it will not add, such as expletives or words with less than 4 letters
