Is anyone else experiencing the odd disappear act of area codes when phone numbers are carried into the messaging app?
For example, place a call to 123 456 7890. End Call. Go to the call log and click on the number which brings up a contact screen showing the number and SMS icon to the right of that number. When you click on that SMS icon, it brings up 456 7890 as the so number. On two occasions I have seen the full number with area code appear for a split second but then the area code gets removed.
It's a bug in the SMS app, try adding +1 to all your numbers in google contact.
Bug fixed in 4.2.2. Saw it in the change log

Still experiencing this problem when using SMS. It seems to work when I go back and change the numbers in the contact to get rid of ( ) around the area code. There must be a way around this problem. Don't want to manually change all my contact fields.

I have twice now gone through my contacts and set Mobile first, Home second, etc for several contacts. After my newest ROM flash, the order is all messed up again, even on the Google Contacts side of things.
Is there some feature I'm missing? Am I the only one that wants a predictable listing of phone numbers on my phone?
anyone? 10char
Someone must know...
I get very anoyed by the contact's numbers order.
In my country:
- the mobile numbers begin with 06...
- fixed line numbers depends of the town, but mostly are 011..., 021..., etc.
Now - it realy is a pain in the back to search for a person, and 99% of the time to scroll down to 2cond or third number to pick...
Even when I want to send a message - the same is needed, although in my country it is not possible to send a message to a fixed line number (I know in some countries it is possible).
Is there an app to choose the order of offered numbers to dial, send messages and similar?
Cheers
I found on another forum:
"If you do a long press on the office number, a menu will appear. From the menu, you can select "Make default number". This way, when you dial, it will automatically dial the office number."
But :
- it doesn't appy to message compose,
- it can be applyed to one number only - if someone have 2 mobile phones (personal and work) - it helps just 50%
- it has to be done person by person, and it is a pain...
- it doesn't apply to all the dialers (just to default one)
Just received my Nexus 4 today. SMS messages from some of my contacts are not showing up their names, instead just showing the number.
I'm sure I had this bug in 4.0.3 on my Nexus S but was resolved with 4.0.4.
It seems to be where I have contacts saved without the country code, but the SMS receives the number including the country code. What is odd though is that I can click the generic avatar next to the message and it does show me the correct contact details.
Anyone else suffering this issue?
i have contacts without country codes and sms is working fine

No issues here with the described problem, could it be that you have these specific contacts or numbers double in your address book ?
I have had a similar scenario once before on my Sensation and this was the conclusion ; if the contact and/or number occurs more than once in the address book then logically the phone does not know which one to display and will display none.
Hope this might help ! Good luck !
Same problem here, contact has two cell phones. Work cell doesn't show the name in messages or group messages.

Yeah same issues here.
I have most of my contacts in the phone with a leading zero (ie 0424 xxx xxx), instead of with the leading country code (ie +61424 xxx xxx, +61 being Australia).
When people call me, Telstra shows their numbers generally with the leading zero, however in text messages they come through with the leading country code. The phone doesnt seem to understand the country code, and so treats the two numbers as being different, even though they are the same number expressed differently. Quite frustrating!
Googling it seems to bring back a few hits with people having the issue, but I cant find any resolution?

Same issue here.
Some of my Text Message conversations on my phone show up with Phone numbers and not their name. They all seem to be ones which have +44 (UKs country code). If I click on the thumbnail next to the number though, the correct contact pops up.
Any idea how to fix this?
If I helps, I'm on CM10.1
Seen this problem before. Is the proper area and country code with the + affixed to the number in the contact? This is the only time I've seen this problem is when it's not properly formatted. Don't put in parentheses, dashes, or dots either.
If the number in text messages is showing as +445555555555 then the contact number saved should be exactly the same +445555555555.
Tappin the talk
I have noticed that if you click on a number in a text message or a contact, it automatically dials the number. This is a big annoyance for me because I get texts from my paging service and sometimes the numbers are a little messed up like "call back room 501 732-555-1234" If I click that, it dials 501-732-5551 234 which obviously doesnt work. I have to copy, past then delete. My GNex would just go to the dialer but not dial, and I would delete the 501 and then press dial. Also if you accidently touch a number in a contact...boom, your dialing them! Any settings Im missing?
Just if anyone wants this changed too, using things like GoContacts doesn't change anything, it still just automatically dials. Wonder if there is a simple mod for this someone could look for.

Just switched my VZW G5 from VZ to ATT (unlocked, non dev)
I'm noticing my synced google contacts don't show up when I get a call.
When I call them, it works, the phone app shows their name and number, but when they call me, I just see the number even though that number is in my contact list.
I have noticed when I call out, the contact number is displayed with the country code ( 1 ) and the 1 isnt there when I get a call. Could that be it?

I believe that is your problem. I had to change my numbers to 9 digit instead of 6. (area code) 123-4567 if any are not the 9 digit format they only show up as a number with no name.
All my numbers stored have area codes. Another weird issue: when i call people back from the recents tab of the phone app, i get a busy signal or an error for making an international call, when its my area code.. I look at the number dialed and its just the same number with a space between the first and second digit, altering the number.
Bump
