Paranoid android 3.0 bluetooth question. - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I want to update my nexus 7 with new PA. But when I test one of last beta, I had a problem with pairing n7 with my phone. It is working, but every time I lost connection (because I went with my n7 to other room) i had to accept pairing request on both devices, and I had to do it twice. After accept on phone and n7, it appears once again I must accept it again. This was really annoying, and now I'm on PA 2.5 and I dont need to pair my devices every time, I had to do it only first time when I paired my phone and nexus. I remember that on stock 4.2 it was the same, I paired my devices only once. And my question is: how it works in PA3.0? It's corrected? I'm asking because this is most important thing for me, I have an app which allow me to write text messages from my tablet via bluetooth and shows me when someone calling me, and I almost dont need to even look at my phone. But on new Paranoid I have take it to hand every time when i lose connection.
And sorry for my english, it isn't my native language.

paranoid
Hello, im sorry but i'll take this topic to ask a little question to paranoid users.
When I decided to experiment paranoid, I installed the 14January2013 version, and I just liked a lot the full tablet UI mixed with the phablet UI (little icons and more space in the launcher, and much more icons in the drawer, perfect fitted).
It happens that with the newer versions i just cant get the same UI (even the new 3+ 4.2.2), when I put the same definitions in Hybrid Properties my launcher borders became limited, is like the same space of a phablet normal UI but the little icons that i want in the middle of the screen. Its that normal? I would like to update, but i really apreciate the UI that I get with this precisely build (14JAN).
Workspace
layout - Tablet mode (1000p)
size - 160dpi
lockscreen 180 dpi
global apps
sys apps UI - phablet UI 600p
user apps UI - Tablet mode 1000p

Do you use the stock launcher or Nova? You can change the launcher borders (if I'm reading what you're saying correctly) with Nova.

Tablet mode is a variation on the Android workspace and features a unified notification bar and navigation bar on the bottom of the screen (see attached pic). Also, tablet mode in apps usually just means optimized for more screen real estate (i.e. multi-pane view in mail apps).
I don't know which ROM has the best benchmarks but I do know that Paranoid Android ROM is excellent for trying out tablet mode. It's super smooth and let's you choose between phone, tablet, and phablet (stock on N7) workspace. It also let's you choose between those modes for every app.
You can download Paranoid Android here.

It's a UI format. It puts the notification bar at the bottom and some other things.
Easy to test: change the DPI line in build.prop to 160 from 213. Then reboot.

ParanoidAndroid and Nexus 7

I'm curious as to how smooth/buggy ParanoidAndroid is as compared to stock. Can anyone comment as to how ParanoidAndroid has improved their experiences with their Nexus 7? I personally love stock and want to stay on it, but after seeing the full tablet mode, smaller options, more/less DPI, etc., I definitely want to try it out... However, as others have stated, I'm hesitant to go to CM10 (the only feature I enjoy from CM10 is the quick settings, but that's coming in 4.2).
How stable is it? Is the DPI settings and full Tablet mode that worth it? Etc.?
Thanks.
Been using PA since I got my nexus 7.. stock rom interface just doesnt feel right to me anymore.. its pretty stable depending on which kernel u use for it,,

I have been using PA for a few days and I have not had any problems with it. I can recommend it!
Will PA offer an update that includes 4.2? I'm debating waiting to see until 4.2 comes out.
I briefly tried PA and got hung up on not being able to remove dual view in the settings menu. Not a big fan of it since I almost always use my N7 in portrait mode. Also I don't like the semi tablet UI with the blue boxes around the home screens when moving.
I was very curious in trying it out but those minor details kind of killed it for me. I am currently running XenonHD which works great. I liked how PA has the DPI changes but I like my stock phablet mode so no real reason for me to swap just yet. Has potential IMO otherwise.

To remove dual pane in settings, go to paranoid settings/apps/ look for the settings app and set the layout to 360px. You can also do the same with trebuchet i think to return the launcher to phablet ui
I try out Paranoid everytime it has an update, but I always end up returning to stock.
Overall I prefer it to stock, but wifi gets to laggy after awhile to the point of being unusable.
I tried different kernels all with the same result. When I revert to stock...problem goes away.
I've tried every rom available. I like PA for my N7 because it's one of the most stable roms. I've been using it since August. The dev is very good about updates since it's CM based.

[4.2]Tablet UI on Android 4.2?

I've just upgraded to Android 4.2 and noticed the lack of tablet ui when I changed the DPI.
Is there any watt till get it back or has it been fully removed? I loved the old UI.

Yeah, WTF happened? Just did the same. 160 dpi with the 213 dpi gui? No thanks.
the update has unified the tablet UI... look at the nexus 10 and you will see you are now running the "tablet' UI. there is no split in UI like there was before (ie. no tablet and phablet difference)
Of course there are changes in 160dpi. It's not the same as 213, Youtube is still totally different, market, gmail. Just navigation and notification bar are splited. But Yeah, old ui was much better. There is too much wasted space in new UI
Hopefully some custom ROMs will add this in. Its a shame, I used to be able to operate with almost one hand and now I need the other to use the notifications. Some things were added tipi the top right quick settings but I really want it on the bottom.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
That's exactly what I suspected, no tablet UI included. I am definitely won't update to this. Let's hope the community will fix that.
They're doing away with the old tablet UI to unify the devices.
-Brought to you by Marino's Galaxy Nexus-
Yeah, and that is dumb as hell in my opinion!
i dont think it is necessarily dumb. i believe it is important to not have a split experience when it comes to your OS. If you want something different that is what custom ROMs are for. But for what google is putting out they want everyone to have a similar experience no matter what device they are on. that way going from your phone to a tablet is more natural
Using Tablet UI, I experienced accidentally pressing the Nav buttons and expanding the status bar while playing games. I think keeping the buttons away from where the fingers will accidentally press them is not dumb at all. I hope they find a better way to implement Tablet UI.
When I saw that the Nexus 10 had the new UI, I feared that this would happen.
Just flashed 4.2 and it was such a pity to discover that there's no tablet ui (( I liked it so much

Here's some files you can beta test:

Now we can have multiple user accounts on our Nexus 7... I'm wondering if it's possible to have one user running at 213 dpi and another at 160 dpi, so have different resolutions per user?
I read it's a change to the system build properties file in a thread about tablet UI, so I imagine it wouldn't be that hard for some savvy person to write a script to swap that at user logon, like in a .profile or similar, if android has those. I guess it must run as root, which is surely achievable on a rooted device... :fingers-crossed:
Key Lime Pie
Hopefully Google will figure something out for Key Lime Pie, unified UI is good for noobies but power users like us want something more and that's why we went with android.

[Q] Nexus 10 Landscape UI on Nexus 7??

Hey all,
Now, I have done the searching, and found the thread about getting tablet UI on my Nexus 7, It looks nice and I'll probably end up using it... However, I like the way the UI is laid out on the Nexus 10...
Now, I know that the 7 will switch to landscape mode and look similar, however, I want the App Drawer and associated buttons to be across the bottom and the google search bar to be across the top like the 10, as opposed to the sides on the 7.
Now, I understand that the N10's screen is a higher resolution, but I figure if anyone has figured it out, it'd be someone here at xda.
So, my question is, has anyone figured out how to do this yet?
Are you running 4.2?
If you're running version 4.2 or over and don't mind having slightly smaller icons, I would recommend changing your DPI from 213 to 160 in /system/build.prop
Of course you will have to be rooted to do this, but this would be worth trying and should give you what you're looking for .
If you're running 4.1.2 maybe try this this method also (as I can't remember the layout when you change your DPI on 4.1.2, and you can always change it back). If not, try some launchers from the Play Store like Apex or Nova.
Hope this helps.
I'd very much like the Nexus 10 landscape on my Nexus 7 as well. Right now, the Nexus 7 landscape looks like a hack for me. It doesn't even look tablet-ish. Anxiously seeking solutions.
I tried what Fuzone suggested and it worked just fine... Needed to adjust some widgets and whatnot but other than that it's good. That is if you don't mind the smaller icons.

Nova Launcher Prime paired with paranoid rom = profit... Lower DPI with paranoid and increase rows and columns with nova if you play around with nova launcher settings you can achieve this... make launcher horizontal instead of vertical in landscape mode too in settings etc etc
please try this patch. you can have the TRUE tablet UI like Nexus 10.

your device should be rooted before flashing the patch, of course

Possibly silly question. How does the N10 UI / N7 tablet patch differ from dpi switch to 160 on N7 ?
I am asking from a visual standpoint, not technical....

This worked for me on 4.2.1. Flash the proper file (odexed/deodexed) tablet UI from your favorite recovery. The launcher is messed up but Nova Launcher free clears it up. See post number 912 in the following link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780970&page=92
While you're there, grab the appropriate stock UI file because the Nexus will not OTA update with the mod installed. Also, if you're running an earlier OS, there are files like these for 4.2 and 4.1.2 earlier in the topic.

Best launcher?! Discuss!!

I can't fault nova launcher at the mo, so much simple customisation it just works a treat!
Anyone got any recommendations for other good ones to try? And any good lock screen apps!
First proper post from the app! Sorry if it's a duplicate

not really
Usually always go for nova, used it on my s4 and using it on my nexus 7, but sticking with HTC launcher on the M8 (with blink feed switched off). HTC have done a great job with it, its very smooth and light. There's no extra animations or features hogging ram as it was on previous htcs, you always have more customisation with nova/apex/etc if you want it.
Nova prime for the last 4 years. Tried many but always go back to it.
Google now launcher, also love miui light/express
I use Nova Prime on all my devices... except this one
I've got Nova installed, but haven't bothered to set it up. I've been using Sense the whole time. I guess I am enjoying the "minimalist" look and feel of Sense. I'm not running any widgets, just a few icons and icon folders.
I much prefer Apex launcher for couple of reasons. My setup is single screen with some icons, folders and widgets. I don't use blinkfeed and standard launcher was our right away due to its limitations. With Apex I can turn off transition animations completely, so there are no distractions when swiping to the sides. Same can be done with Nova, but when checking CPU consumption Nova still uses more resources when swiping to the side, even if there is no other screen there and no animation. I feel that Apex is more optimized that way. The biggest advantage when compared to Nova is that gestures in Apex work on free launcher. On Nova you have to pay for the functionality. I use gestures a lot (swipe down/up), so Apex was the clear winner.
Thanks to Google Rewards credits, I've bought practically all the big name launchers out there...ADW, Nova, Apex, Action, Lightning, Go, Next 3D, TSF, missing Smart Launcher as I find it a bit too limiting to pay for yet. Also tried practically all the big name cutting edge free ones like Google, Aviate, Nokia Z, Terrain, Solo, Buzz, Themer. The one I keep coming back to time and time again after I'm done playing with a new launcher is Action Launcher. It just can't be beat in pure day to day efficiency. I love the Covers folder concept, and I find it hard to stick with other launchers on a daily basis after getting used to Action Launcher's slide out app drawer that has the quick first letter search.
I actually do like the stock Blinkfeed launcher a lot, and actually find Blinkfeed useful. I just wish it allowed for some gestures, especially one to pull down the notification tray from anywhere. I found myself missing that one gesture enough to go back to a 3rd party launcher.
My favourite launcher on the M7 is definitely the stock HTC launcher, especially since Sense 5.5 (I think) when BlinkFeed had an option to remove it, rather than having to flash the mod to remove it.
It's been since we've had the option to remove BlinkFeed that I've actually enjoyed and found it more useful to use it.
I do also have the pro versions of ADW, Apex, Nova and TSF Shell though so at least I can always switch to them whenever I fancy.
Talking about switching to a custom launcher, I usually switch to one of them every 3-4 months and stick with it for a few weeks, as I like to customize the hell out of my homescreens from time to time and they're obviously better for doing just that.
ADW isn't as relevant these days though as it simply hasn't got the customizability of Apex and Nova.
I don't have a favourite between Apex and Nova though as they both offer great usability and customization and I tend to switch seamlessly between them, dependant on what kind of set up I'm working on.
BLINKFEED/SENSE!!!!!!
If i haven't told u guys already hehe :silly:
