The stock AOSP rom seemed to run better than cm 7.03 plus it was 2.3.4. I know tge nightlys are the latest but I need somd stablility on my phone. CM7 seems buggy on this device even a couple random reboots. Anybody else experience similar results?

Stock 2.3.4 is great stability wise and has tremendous battery life.
Iv been running zuluzulu for about a week now and it flies. Great battery life although I am a heavy user. I haven't experienced random reboots at all with it. Also if you like the notification power widget from cm7 its built into zuluzulu.

Try AdamG's oxygen ROM and you'll never want the stock ROM again. It isn't built on cm7, it's based on aosp ROM.

I'm on oxygen now. Really a nice rom. I had opensoju downloaded too, but I went with oxygen.
But I do miss the rotary lockscreen on cm, with the messaging shortcut in the middle.

Agreed. AdamG's Oxygen Rom is my favourite right now. It's AOSP GRJ22 with some of the great features from CyanogenMOD built in (status bar power widget, improved widget picker, etc) and fantastic battery life!
A stable cm 7.1 (2.34) will be out very soon. No worries

With many devices over many years, I've consistently found that stock firmware is more stable and functional than enthusiast-developed firmware.
I have literally never found an enthusiast-developed firmware that doesn't have at least some minor interface glitches. Most have some problem that's major enough that after a few hours of playing I revert to stock.
Occasionally I will run something other than stock, but that is typically after the device has aged to the point that this is the only way to get a feature. By that point, it's usually time to replace the device, anyway.

I agree in general, but of course there are exception. When I had an HTC Evo 4G, I ended up running CM6 as my daily and it was exceptionally stable. At least as good as stock HTC Sense. Unfortunately when Gingerbread came around, that changed, and CM7 was not in the same ballpark.
On my Nexus, though... yeah I run stock ROM. CM7 is cool and if I had any other device (that came with a carrier OS and not pure Android), I would dump that shiz and rock CM7 for sure. But plain pure stock Android developed by a team of amazing developers specifically for this device, that's just not going to be beat
Hah. Google's "official" code isn't really better then what rom devs provide if they know what they're doing. The way google keeps pushing buggy code without giving a s*** is really disappointing. They release updates and then they stop caring about it. As some pointed out the gb update brought call delay and broke aac support, it really seems like they don't even do some basic testing before releasing a new version (which even the crappiest developer on the block generally does). On top of that, there is still no support at all for gpu acceleration in the ui, which is kinda retarded. Day after day i'm getting more and more disappointed about google dev team's job, they don't really deserve half the respect that many geeks keep tributing them.
Stock vs Custom rom on the NS was something I always thought about too! I only ran stock for a few hours because I immediately flashed a new rom when I got my phone LOL But what I can remember from the stock 2.3.4 was that it was fast, faster than any phone I've ever had. But there are so many features that are incorporated in custom roms and it's really hard to forgo these things.
Anyone out there who has used both stock 2.3.4 and oxygen who can attest to better battery life and performance? I am curious as well.
The last phone I used for a long time running stock was my N1 but after flashing CM6 I never really looked back. Speed increase was very noticeable and battery life was better. This is the reason why I never really bothered to use stock software for my next phones.
well, to be honest, i kinda regret to be flashed customs. Stock is so stable and has so good battery life, but now i can't live without cm7 features, just can't...

I agree for the most part, stock gb is pretty good. Using Oxygen now, and the stability and speed from stock + some nice features makes it a good choice!

In the case of Oxygen not much difference but I believe CM pretty much guts the framework and replaces it with their own heavily modded version.
does facebook sync work on all ASOP roms? or is it just CM7?

Hi there! I have used Paranoid Android, AOKP Jellybean Glazed and the standard ROM and havent found anything perfect. I was wondering if someone could point me! I need a ROM that's stable for music as AOKP isnt Apollo crashes and that also has good features such as a great keyboard as I use it for college and Generally stable! Thanks for the help!

They probably don't have AS many tweaks as some of the other roms, but it has the important ones. It is a good balance between customization and stability. The Tablet Mode is why I started using it and haven't looked back. I've flashed several other roms and most of them use the Phone/Phablet UI with no options to switch to tablet mode on demand.
It's what I use and I recommend it.

The best rom is the one that works best for you. In other words, its entirely subjective and only you can answer the question for yourself.

I like Team EOS as well. Used PA for a couple days and ultimately just prefer the simplicity and ease-of-use of Team EOS. Use it on my Xoom tablet too, and even installed it on my GF's Xoom
I'm a new Android user and loving all of the options out there in terms of Kernels, ROMS, etc, but I find myself being overwhelmed with all of the options out there. So far I'm pretty set with running franco Kernel (running r20 right now), but I find myself always wanting to try out new ROMs, and I'm hoping that doing all of this switching around isn't going to mess up my device but I just can't nail myself down to a ROM that I'm set with.
I had been running CM 10.1 nightlies, but just recently a couple of days ago I jumped over to MiNCO because of the support for franco Kernel.
Now I find myself looking at the Xylon ROM but am worried that jumping around from ROM to ROM is going to mess with my device.
What ROMs are you guys using, and why are you using them? I find myself that the most important factors for me are battery life/performance, quick toggles, and the power menu.
I havean EVO 4G LTE .. ever since i got the o.g. EVO I was hooked on them. But I use a stock with goodies Rom by flex. Its a great rom has everything I need and its super smooth

I generally stick to CyanogenMod. I keep an eye on the changelog and flash new nightlies when things I want are merged.
I've messed with AOKP and MIUI in the past but they're not really for me.
Cyanogenmod 10.1 Jellybro because it has everything I need and is clean code (no dirty hacks). Used to be a fan of aokp but too many dirty code and unicorns for me.

cm is my favourite rom, but thats not really the truth what you say. in order to stuff in tons of devices that normally do not run aosp they have to stretch the base wide open with hacks. this is the hackiest rom in the android scene and it must be, otherwise people out there wouldnt know what android is. thats why cm traditionally never had so much traction on this plattform than on others, simply because uncompromised aosp is leaner and more optimized for android itself and the nexus plattform. on a legacy device i'd always suggest cm, thats obvious. on nexus cm may not be the obvious best choice anymore, because the others are likely faster, more stable, have less daily fallouts, and in some cases have more features, like aokp, if youre the kind of guy that likes that sort of thing. if i flash cm here, its because i like their creative/inventive spirit and would like to support the project overall. flashing is easy though, trying out a couple of em isn't that much of a problem. (-:
Paranoid android. Not even considered any other ROM since I flashed this one. Its just so amazing. I couldn't live without all the colours that change per app, and all the other features it has.
I suggest trying it out now.

With my previous device, s2, I changed a lot, from RR to AOKP to CM etc etc, I like them all.
On my N4, I'm using stock until a really good-good ROM comes out, I don't have any problems, other than battery, so I don't panic, YET.

For me its PA rom....Ive tried every rom because I love flashing lol....but this is an honest opinion from experience....I know best rom talk is not allowed but the best to me is PA rom because of one simple reason....other than stock...its perfect!!!! And with that being said I have No issues with it very stable..super fast...alot of features man I can go on and on....if you want your N4 running perfect go PA...there are some other good roms because we have alot of elite devs in here and im sure more are on the way...but to me theres nothing better than super wiping your phone just to make sure its really clean and flashing PA...all you can say is wow after that lol......and now I change roms everytime Moles and his crew update PA....and also flash Franco kernel with this and your N4 will be excellent....
I'm currently on liquidsmooth. I've tried rasbeanjelly, Xylon, codefirex, CM 10.1, MinCo and a few others I can't remember. All were great. I'm really like liquidsmooth. It's a great balance. I flash, sometimes 3 times a day.

Long story short, CFX's performance is apparent as soon as you start using the device, it had much needed improvements.
Oh, and did I mention the CFX settings? Synegye's special built in mods allow you to improve your experience even more. For instance I decided to use the 6 signal Wi-Fi/Network, center clock, smaller Nav Bar, as well as dual view. This package, when combined with Faux's kernel presents you with an unbeatable experience on the best Android experience to date.

For reliability and just the right amount of mods for me it's been CM on any device I've owned 90% of the time. It's the least buggy for me, although of course, there will be the occasional bug along the way. Works beautifully on the the Nexus, although some mods may take longer to merge as other devices have to be taken into account.
Can't think of any "hacks" needed for CM to run on any Nexus, although much hackage needed for it to run on Samsung branded phones, and any other manufacturer that doesn't ship with AOSP and may be slow to release source. The kernel for the GN was less than impressive, but the N4 kernel is great.
Running stock rooted. Going CM 10.1 as soon as I get back home from vacation.

I am flashing between a number of Roms daily. Change between cm 10.1, aokp, paranoid, slimbean, codefire. Currently on paranoid b9. I love the options we have on the nexus. It would be a lot less hassle for me if I don't have to restore my texts everytime. Still I pretty much flash a different ROM daily

No stable (official stable) roms out there yet that I like, and since n4 is my primary phone, I need my stability :/.
Probably will switch over to AOKP milestone or CM stable.
On past devices I've run with CyanogenMod (any variation), but on the Nexus line I tend to prefer staying with a stock ROM and a custom kernel (though I'm stock presently) for the sake of cleanliness. CyanogenMod is great, it's built by trusted developers, and all around well known for their great reputation. On the flip side, I tend to stay stock because I need to help other people out often enough that I start to forget which features were added by the CM team and which come with Android itself.
I have switched from HTC One X because I hate its quiet speaker sound and GPS jumping around. So far i am really happy with nexus 4. Currently I have it stock rooted. But Im just wondering if I should flash a Custom Rom because I am currently really happy with stock root. But is there battery improvements .etc. with other roms.
I have my eyes on Cyanmogen and paranoidandroind but I think they both are buggy?

There is nothing like the best ROM.
For one person best is stock, for another, best is heavily modified.
Personally i use AOKP (milestone1), and for me it's virtually bug free, with healthy dose of improvements over stock, which I got used to on my old One X
basically this is nexus, so pretty much all ROMs are stable
they're built from exactly same source as stock. it's not HTC where published source code won't even compile properly without intense troubleshooting and fixing.
Both roms have been around for a quite along time so bugs are at a minimum level or none at all. Every rom will have a few bugs here and there that's why there are releases to fix them. Both CM 10.1 and PA are pretty stable and prefect for daily use.
If you're happy on stock then there's no need to flash a custom rom. There's no such thing as "the best rom".

another of this best topics...There's not a thing like "best" rom, what you can find however, it's a rom that fits your needs better than others. If you think the roms you're looking at are buggy, then don't use them, custom roms are always a work on progress unless it's a final version, so deal with it.
Both roms have a complete changelog and you can find what's working and what's not. they bring different things to the table, for me Cyanogen+franco kernel do the trick.
Interesting answers I guess i'll stay stock for a bit longer. I was tempted with custom because battery currently is alright. But just wondered if there was a custom rom with like battery improvements.

Roms don't contribute much in battery life. Kernels do. Go for a custom kernel.

a lot (or at least some) of people report, that battery life is much better after re-flashing stock rom. apparently something to do with factory flashing method. after reflash they gained extra few hours between charges.
personally can't say much as i didn't ever boot my nexus on stock, oem unlock was the first thing, and straight after flashing custom.
about kernels - try franco. He's got years of experience with custom kernels for different devices. Plus a lot of new settings to play around (when using with his paid app, but IMO it's worth it) - voltage, frequency, display contrast, gamma etc... tons of useful tweaks.
Kernels alone are worth it for the screen color adjustability. Try a bunch of roms before settling on one, most are plenty stable.
Depends on whether your looking for customization, or performance. Not saying it's the best ROM/Kernel combination, but I use RasSaber with franco.Kernel currently for performance :good:
After trying some different ROM's I settled on SentinelROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2233740
It has ROM+kernel tweaks and gives good battery life and performance right out of the box. Plus it's based on CM 10.1 source, but optimized for the Nexus. So for me it was the best of both worlds, and I'm very happy with it. It's very stable fast and gives you 48 hours of battery with moderate use.
I have to say... I was skeptical about rooting my Nexus 4 because I didn't want it to mess up in any way but then I saw ParanoidAndroid3+ and immediately rooted my Nexus. I've been playing around with it and it is awesome. I haven't bumped into any bugs or problems yet. I'm very pleased! :thumbup:

Stock, because all the ROMs I've tried have been buggy and don't offer a great deal of additional functionality. I do have high hopes for PA though, once thier multi-window is finished. I have rooted the tablet though, mainly for the aosp browser.
I haven't had any real bugs with CM and PA, but AOKP has some weird theming bugs with settings not taking.
I use Pacman, which has CM, PA, and AOKP... All in one package.
KTManta kernel is hands-down my favorite kernel, as well.
PA was put on my Nexus straight away since I detest the phablet look, but now they're adding other things such as halo which is great. Plus PA makes mes want a Nexus 4 to get the most out of it on my phone too.

PA is nice and a great ROM, but if you need performance, sadly, it sucks. I haven't tried the latest build with halo, but on 3.15 the performance is really bad on games.
I use PA for the Hybrid engine. It is truly brilliant. I get very few errors in terms of performance and the tablet crashes occasionally but it's worth it--especially for Halo alone. Hopefully they will start to develop the Halo functionality in regards to tablets having multi-window rather than stacked Halo processes.

Rasbeanjelly + franco.Kernel
Not a ton of customization, lightweight, fast and optimized. And can use the same combination across all my devices (N4, N7, and N10).
I never used PA, but have heard quite a few reports of it being somewhat on the worse-side for performance.
Carbon ROM, felt the smoothest for me and had all the customizations I needed. A second for me would be Sentinel ROM. I guess it depends on what your main preference is. If its AOSP (stock), PA, cyanogen, or AOKP. They all offer something different. The best way is try a ROM and see if you are comfortable with the usage of that ROM. Also Kernel can also help play a role in your ROM choice.
I use the last RasSaber build, dont know where it is available anymore though. It gives me enough of the customization that I want, a nice built in theme, and very smooth performance with great battery life. For kernel I use the KTManta kernel because it offers the best battery life through undervolting and also gives me the best performance. Lots of fun options with it if your into that sort of thing.

So would you recommend sticking to rooted stock rom? Is that stablet enough for Battery/Gaming/OverallPerformance
You can if you want to, but you can get more performance on custom stuff. Or less performance but a LOT more features if you choose ParanoidAndroid.
