Hey.
I want to root my Defy+, mainly to remove some bloatware apps and install root-required apps.
I've been trying SuperOneClick, gets stuck in #7, even after trying the solutions the developer suggested on a topic in this very forum.
Also tried OneClickRoot, the app said my phone is root-able but failed.
How can I successfully root my Defy+? I've been constanty banging my head against the wall trying to do so.
Thanks in advance.
Ron. :good:
First, tell me your Defy+ build number.
Settings> about phone> Build number
What matters is the number set "DFP-xxx".
Super one click or any other software won't work for rooting defy+
There are 4-5 threads for rooting defy+ which works perfectly....
Please use time in searching it rather than posting new threads with similar topics

I did search this forum, and the internet itself, I suppose I didnt search good enough.
Can you link me to one of these threads?
I found some threads that included upgrading your android version, I don't want that. I'm happy with my 2.3.6, just want to root.
Thanks in advance.

As expected.
DFP-231 build has new bootloader version called BL7, it's newer and any root program won't work on it.
Here, if you use this build number to do the search, this topic might show up; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542956
Flashing rooted rom is the only way we have for BL7 device.

Hi.
I'm kind of a dummy about "flashing", what does it mean?
Can you explain to me or simply just point me out to a guide about how to flash rooted rom?
Thanks!

One last thing, I dont want to flash a new version of android on my phone, I want to keep my Android version 2.3.6. Where can I downloaded a rooted rom for this version?
Those rooted roms I provide are also DFP-231, android 2.3.6 the same as your current stock rom. So no worries.
But it's baseband may differ from your region, read about and use Basebandswitcher to fix it after root.

Now my phone is all in English. I want to make it appear in Hebrew, or at least have Hebrew in typing languages. How can I add Hebrew? I dont have it in the exisiting languages list.
Nah instead of finding stock roms that contains Hebrew, I suggest using a custom rom that (likely) have one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1140839
Since your Defy+ are rooted, install CWM from this guide and go try MS2Ginger! Hope they had it.
About keyboard, try looking for one with your language in Play Store.

I have successfully rooted my defy + using doomlord's rooting tool.
URL
www.xda-developers.com/android/want-to-root-something-anything-try-doomlords-easy-rooting-toolkit/
My defy is a telstra branded unit running 2.3.6
I wouldn't bother with other roms just yet, mostly because of any telstra specific tweaks that you might lose, like nextG... Almost no other counties are using it, so any modded ROM based on a foreign ROM won't work without further tweaking. So bone up on how to get things working again should they break.
Once you've got the defy+ rooted you can remove the God awful telstraone app...it's pure poop. Just setup URL shortcuts to the services it tried to supply.
I'm on hols ATM and will try to cut out as much of blur as possible once i'm home.

i used SuperOneClick v2.3.1.0 and it worked whitout a problem
My response was more aimed at OP, and gauged by his avatar.
Telstra branded phones with 2.3.4, or once updated to 2.3.6, won't root with oneclick. Not the batch I experienced anyway.
NextG is a low freq variant of 3G chosen by telstra to cope with Australia's vast open spaces; hence they employ a custom production ROM. So what works in one country, on one carrier, won't necessarily work everywhere or any where else.

i did it the way AzzA68 (thanks!), told everything ok with my new Defy+, it had the 2.3.5 with Telcel (Mexico)... greets
Mines rooted, i got Android 2.3.4.

It's easy. Use SuperOneClick and as the name suggests it's just one click! The lastest version works on just about any android phone, including Defy+. - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
To install Cyanogenmod, there is a simple guide in a FAQ posted in the forum by one of the Dev's - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065798
The way to install MIUI is basicly the same idea, except when it says to flash "update-cm-7.1.0-11-Defy-signed.zip"you flash the MIUI zip file instead.
SuperOneClick doesn't work with the defy+

DooMLoRD and the latest version of SuperOneClick both use the same exploit (called zergrush). This appears to have been fixed in the latest versions of 2.3.6 shipping on the Defy+, hence no root for the moment.

Sorry, not at the present time. Just have to wait until someone finds another loophole that can be exploited, I guess. Might be worth keeping an eye on the main SuperOneClick thread for news - the dev does say on his blog that he's planning to focus on Motorola phones next. In the mean time I am looking forward (not much) to life with a non-rooted phone, depending on how mine comes back from UK repair agent (having managed to brick it by attempting to flash incompatible SBFs in the hope that one would then be rootable).
How are you supposed to make any kind of useful backups without ClockWorkMod and Titanium Backup?
Apparently SuperOneClick v2.3.3, releaed a few hours ago, has added a new exploit to root on "Motorola." Might be worth having another try with the latest version!
SuperOneClick Does work with my Defy+
SuperOneClick 2.3.3 worked fine rooting my defy plus.

No, it doesn't..! You can root it, I did it just yesterday, using SuperOneClickRoot. I've got a DEFY+, too.
But it does mean that once you flash a newer kernel, you can't go back to an older version. That has nothing to do with rooting, but it does with flashing.

What does this BL6/BL7 stand for? How do you which one you have?
BL = Bootloader
As for the version, in Dev's section there's a sticky thread, called "SBF...smth", where you could check what version is the Bootloader for any particular build.

I am a noob. and I am grateful you gave a link to something that could help me.
I am a little weary though.
1. Okay how do you Flash a device without having rooted it first? I have read on a few fourms that you should backup your current rom so you can always go back to that if you need to. But everything I've read says you need Super User in order to back up your current ROM.. so it's kinda a loop. I can't flash without rooting and I can't root without flashing
2. I guess all of my worries can be resloved by the idea "I can go back to what I used to have"... can someone asnswer this please?

Best bid is flashing a custom ROM.
Some apps require root access to customize and tweak. Look for that.

Don’t forget, make sure that all firewall and antivirus instruments are disabled. Allow USB debugging by choosing settings > applications > development > USB debugging. Your phone also needs to have no less than 70 % battery.
First I did this using RSDLite:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1595013
You can do it also without wiping your phone.
Then this:
www.mediafire.com/?bq3mbq6dv37g9nd
Join your Defy+ to your pc by way of USB cable.
After connecting, double click on the file referred to as defy-plus-rooten.bat and then all it’s essential to do is to observe on display screen instructions to get your phone rooted.
To test whether or not you have got successfully rooted your Defy+ are if there are two additional apps specifically, Superuser and CWM. This means that you’ve got gained root entry to your Motorola Defy Plus.

Hi,

one last question i would like to ask before i start rooting my phone.
After i saw "The second method doesn't work everytime" in ur reply what i understood is:
There are 2 methods to root defy+ with 2.3.6 firmware:

2nd: using method specified under www.mediafire.com/?bq3mbq6dv37g9nd with out wiping
is this right or i need to follow both to root the phone??
and what if i get a call or something in between rooting process!! will it get interrupted?
if yes should i keep mobile in flight mode to avoid such scenarios or do something else?
Please don't be angry as i am asking too many questions, i am just very concerned as its my 1st time and dont want to do anything wrong.
Thank you.

You might end up screwing your phone without proper info before attempting root.
Give some details about your Phone esp the build number, rooting differs with BL(that depends on your build) versions the exploits don't work with BL7

First take your sim out before doing anything, just to be safe.
In the first one your are flashing phone twice with two different files and it becomes rooted. And in the second one you start the .bat file and it does something by it self in tree processes. It's in German and that's why I don't know what it does exactly.
It's very hard to screw up your phone because Motorola locked bootloader and if it doesn't want to start just flash it again with your stock rom on this link:

DFP-231 is a BL7 build. Older exploits don't work with it. The above method of flashing the rooted SBF (where you flash two SBF's one after other) is the suggested one for BL7 builds..

Android 2.1= Eclair
Android 2.2= Froyo
You can't do anything until you update to 2.2
Search for RSD Lite to flash Froyo SBF files (ie stock ROMs). Plenty of info in this forum. Remember to wipe data & cache after flash.
After that, root, install 2nd-init.
For custom ROM I recommend CM10 4.1.2 since CM7 is a bit outdated.
Checked out this???

Read the wiki for DEFY and/or the Q&A-Threads/Guides. They shall answer your basic questions (hence the name) ...

Yeah, right: even for editing posts? wow!
20130301 CM7 for me is the best. Speed and stability.

I have read it and did not understand what to download or is it safe for my phone... One peace of info, leads me to another and I get confused.
Ok, so what exactly is your problem? chandujram linked the beginners guide, where you may find that you need RSDLite (the flashing tool) and a SBF file to flash matching your phone and region (and provider if you want) - both are linked in the thread. Follow the instructions to flash the SBF to your phone and you have Froyo/Gingerbread. This thread should give you a clue, what SBF is Froyo or Gingerbread - and what bootloader they bring. you have read and understood, that certain bootloader versions come with some restrictions, haven't you? Good. Then follow the instructions in the thread for the rom you posted.

after reading this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537
I didn't understand which version is for me. I know how to use the RSDLite tool, and I know how to root, I just need to be told which version to download.
Ok, what provider do you have, in what country do you live/use your phone and what Android version shall it be after flashing?

I live in Israel. My carrier is Orange but I believe it previously belonged to Cellcom (another carrier).
I want to install CM7 because it seems awesome but it requires froyo 2.2 in order to flash. And Im on stock 2.1
Latest CM7 build is the best
@rizeN50:
Have you even read the thread? He ain't on Froyo or Gingerbread, yet.
@Bei60:
Well, Israel makes it quite easy, doesn't it? The SBF-list only shows one entry for Israel and the other thread shows only one entry, too. Either of them should be fine, but I didn't check them. If in doubt, take the one from the SBF-list. But I don't know, if they're GB oder Froyo.
