[Q] Live tiles stopped updating on my 8X - Windows Phone 8 General

For reasons I don't understand, most if not all of my live tiles stopped updating with in the last week or so. Mi have tried every "fix" I can find posted on Microsoft help and WPCentral forums, ( soft reset, stopping background agents, unpunished and pinning tiles, etc) but nothing has resolved the problem although others report that these have. I am heading for a hard reset, something I very much don't want to do.
Looking for any solutions, suggestions, etc.

I've never had this issue on WP8 but on WP7 I had something almost similar to your issue. It turned out to be an app; If I remember correctly on mine it was a battery meter app, it was conflicting with my other apps over background usage or something. Try deleting any recent apps that use the background services especially the free apps. I recently had another issue where my battery was draining, after delete recently downloaded free apps one at a time the issue went way.

Should have tried that, but I did a hard reset. Everything now working, but it took a lot of time.

Many WP users are experiencing this problem, Microsoft must look into it,coz Live tiles are what differentiate WP from other OS.

How to prevent OS exiting my applications?

Hi,
I noticed that OS constantly unloads my applications.
Say, I visit some page using IE, then switch to another application, then switch back - it is usually at the same page, but, probably depending on idle time, it sporadically gets closed.
That said, when I go to IE again, it starts afresh on its initial page and I must reload my page again. Needless to say, in most cases this is unacceptable. (extra traffic, so it costs $$, also GPRS could become unavailable etc :x )
How do I PREVENT this behaviour?
Not only IE suffers, any application! Sporadically exits despite of fact there are tons of free memory and I would better free resources with another way than just closing what is required for me.
I have elder device with PocketPC 3.0 (Cassiopeia E-125) and it does NOT behave in such a way. Does not close even it has 4times less memory! Now I understand how nice it is.
While this problem persists, I forced to have both devices with me.
Please help me solving this!
Vadim.
I've noticed the same behavior randomly also. I don't have a fix, but you're not alone.
What ROM version are you using? There was an issue with the earlier ROMS in that there were too many programs running and when you launched another program the OS would terminate a background program to provide the necesssary process space.
The newer ROMs have solved this problem, but CheckNotify and ClearNotify (search the forum) will help with the earlier ROMs.
This is an old problem, related to the number of running processes.

which will show you how to solve it. Also the newer roms cut down on the number of processes at startup, which helps.

Mine is much more random than that described. Sometimes I can have a half dozen apps open with no problem, and sometimes a single app will close itself while I work in the phone or the Today screen.

Don't forget that we are talking processes, not appications, here. One app. may have many processes and multiple app's may use the same common processes. Therefore, launching one application can generate a number of new processes and that can push you over the limit (e.g. ActiveSync, which launches three or four I recall), so something gets nuked.
I understand, and was looking for a pattern, but there is none. In fact, it seems reversed, as it happens more often while I'm just out and about and less frequenty while the device is in the cradle. Very often it happens after a fresh boot with a single app running.
I may look at it more closely with a process viewer. It's not bugging me enough to make it a priority.
Thank you all for providing many help!

That explains it all, many fruitful comments, and a prove that there could be no fix but just temporary solutions to reduce a problem a bit.
It is a bit larger problem in my case, because I use special sotware to support Russian.
Too bad MS can't recognize and fix such a big design mistakes.

Event Log for WinMo 6.x

I am just a user with no programing knowledge so I am wondering if there is anything that can keep a log of significant events in the life of my phone in a manner similar to event log on Windows. I have tried searching the forums to no avail and hope either someone can point me to an app I missed or maybe this amazing community will see fit to create an "app for that."
I, like most of the members here am constantly tweaking my phone, adding apps, uninstalling apps and making registry edits. Running a Sprite back-up before every change is way too time consuming and sometimes when I revert to an older Sprite backup because my ohone has gone off the rails somehow (poor battery life, unstable or some other hard to diagnose problem) and the problem remains. This is very frustrating and time consuming to trouble shoot. As a last resort, I have too often done a hard reset and reinstalled my too large selection of essential apps and tweaks. My wife, who works in IT is always reminding me I should keep a log of everything I do to the phone so I can identify what is likely to have caused a sudden drop in phone performance. While I know she is right I find myself forgetting or just being too lazy to do this. Besides, it seems that the real problem is often something I might not have thought to log.
The list of events and info that would be good to log off the top of my head includes: Installed and uninstalled apps, registry edits, periodic log of battery drain, Free Storage Space Change, Free Memory Change, system settings changes and whatever other things I am not thinking of that are likely to help diagnose phone performance problems. My wife thinks the idea of using software to monitor this kind of info is foolish and unreliable but frankly, my own efforts have been more unreliable than any software would be. Her and my concern is that the app not cause problems of it's own and that it have a minimal drain on phone resources.
Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me out on this project.

[Q] News stopped updating

On Nov 17 my news widget abruptly stopped updating. Manual, Auto, existing sources, new ones, NOTHING makes any difference at all. I've tried disabling AdFree, mucking about with all the settings there are, which were all correct when I started, and various other things none of which made any difference at all.
From searching the forums it sounds like if I restore factory defaults the News app may start working again, until the next time it stops of course.
I'm not certain what "restore factory defaults" means wrt the OTA update but I'm not sure I care either. I have a LOT of work into this and getting the RSS reader to work for an indeterminate period is not worth doing it all again.
I did see reference to AnyRSS, so maybe that's an option. But before I abandon the news app/widget entirely I thought I'd put a post of the forums for my actual device.
One option that I haven't tried but is interesting is in Froyo Task Killer I can delete all the app's data. This conceivably could wipe out whatever bad data is preventing it from syncing. It could also make a damn mess deleting files that would insure a Sense crash until a factory refresh.
So, simple question, does anyone know the cause of this apparently rather pervasive problem? Is there any way to fix it other than "reinstall the OS". Shocking how many things that will "fix". But while it often, perhaps even usually, works it is NEVER a reasonable alternative. Thank you micro$oft for lowering the expectations of an entire industry.

winMo free and loving it
When mine stopped updating on the 24th that was the last straw for me and I ditched Sense and began using LauncherPro Plus. It is much more customizable and super stable. You lose the news widget and the clock widget, but those can be replaced easily. Clock replaced with Fancy Widget Pro and the news I have given up on for now until I find a suitable replacement. I just haven't had the time to find one yet. Whatever you do DO NOT erase the data on the news program/widget. I did and I lost all the feed options. I had to nandroid restore to get them back. I would just find an alternative and give up on the Sense version. I know this isn't a great answer, but I'm in the same boat.

(tip) app upload failure? Tried everything but still can't update installed apps?

Ever had APP UPDATE or APP INSTALL FAILURES and common remedies (deleting cache, wiping data, uninstall/reinstall, etc) not resolving the problem? Something I learned after experiencing this issue a couple of different times- The system's clock wasn't staying in sync with the network's time. I don't know "exactly" why? All I had to do was set the systems clock to correct time and my apps started auto updating... I installed ★ClockSync★Since then the sys/netwrk clock has stayed in sync, thus I haven't had anymore app update or install failures since. I wanted to pass this information along, I figured others of you might wind up experiencing the same problem and find this info helpful in resolving the issue quicker than I was able to...

Call ended as soon as i call, happened many times even after format within few days

Seems like you've started to narrow it down. It doesn't appear to be the phone per se, since the stock firmware works. Likewise you say that it happens on multiple custom ROMs, so probably not them either.
But unless someone has run into the same problem, we can't tell you what it is yet. There are still hundreds of variables. It sounds like it is one of those three apps, even if uninstalling it doesn't resolve the problem. From your description the overwhelming chances are that it's one of those. My bet is 3G switcher having some intermittent conflict.
All you can do is either avoid those apps completely. Or methodically troubleshoot them. Narrow it down from three apps to one. Then look at all of the configuration options for the app, Google search to see if it is a known bug and do a logcat to see if there the system errors help explain what the conflict is.
