Epic 4G still rockin' and rollin' - Epic 4G General

Hey homies,
I've since moved to the Note II, but I saw this chart today and noticed that Epic 4G is still kickin' trash:
http://phandroid.com/2013/02/07/has-anyone-ever-asked-if-your-non-samsung-phone-was-a-galaxy-poll/
No doubt in large part thanks to the wonderful dev community the Epic 4G enjoyed for several years.

still rockin mine currently with pacman rom. if the development scene was as hot as it is i would have probably picked up something else by now. i have to admit tho that ill probably be jumping ship for the GS4

Now THAT is pretty sweet. I'm still rocking it, cm10 / nexus modem. Blazing fast, no lag or anything, can't see myself upgrading anytime soon.

I've had mine for two and a half years and have no reason to upgrade. Couldn't be happier with my OG Epic currently running flawless on CM10.1 preview build with LF2 modem and NS4G patch. All thanks to the awesome devs and the community!

Man, I'm sorely missing the nexus modem, my Note gets double my stock Epic 3G speeds, but a 4th of my ns4g patched Epic's speeds.

Good news for Epic 4G owners? (2.2.1 for original Galaxy S)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917256&page=17
Looks promising??
This is for the i9000 yes? All the sgs phones are not the same! If we could just port over any 2.2.1 from an sgs phone we would have done it by now.

Does this mean one step closer for us, or are the phones really all that different?
They really are that different. Our Epics are the least like the other galaxy phones. You could probably get something from the i9000 to boot, but getting the cdma radio, gps, 4g, and so on to work is pretty tough to do without more Epic source from samsung.
I'm talking about performance. We already have 2.2.1 betas but the performance is sub-par and pales in comparison to DI18 2.1. It lags, you can't multitask worth crap because of bad memory mangement, browser lag and checker boarding, etc. Apparently this new update from 2.2 to 2.2.1 on the galaxy s gt i9000 fixed a lot of the issues they were having. I think the issues were similar to dk28 froyo.
I was asking if you think this mean the official 2.2.1 update wil have big improvements over dk28? I miss th blazing speed and great multitasking of DI18

Lets make sure atrix gets ice cream sandwich we do have the power

http://www.facebook.com/motorola?sk=wall&filter=1 click the link people like it and comment on it.
I have seen first hand proof of this working. I had an evo 3d. Htc decided all futre devices would have locked bootliaders well that made alot of people angry. Someone posted a thread on xda suggesting we let htc know that is not gna fly. So it turnd out thousands of people got on there facebook wall and twitter. Guess what the next day htc released a statement saying that they wanted too keep there coustamers happy and that the bootloader would be unlocked. They were. Id like to be able too have a device and not have too get a new one juzt because moto or htc or sammy wants too put them out constantly get people too buy them and then ditch them and out out another. The atrix is 100 percent capable of runing ics and theres no excuae for it l not too recieve it just because moto wants people too buy new devices every couple months. I know many many people feel the same way well as i said we have the power too change that if people would stop bickering and take it seriously. And also if moto started supporting devices longer not just bug fixes but the new android flavors. Id definately make my next device a moto it would do nothing but benefit them
try and get as many people as you can too do the same. It will make a difference.
I'd wait until ICS is released. As things stand today, Atrix has the latest Android version available.
Yes that is correct how ever the atrix 2 is not a good sign for us. And it is a good idea too voice our oppinion before they stop supporting our phone if we do after really wouldnt have the same effect in my oppinion

The Atrix is really close to being officially supported by CM. Once ICS is released and the CM team makes their latest version (will be CM9) it will have ICS and will work with with the Atrix.

They got tons of flak for promising gingerbread for the Motorola Milestone (gsm version of OG Droid) and then saying nevermind. Mind you, this was merely 1 year after the milestone came out as well. Gingerbread for the Atrix was inevitable. Not giving the Atrix gingerbread would be a PR disaster. What people fail to realise about a CM port of ICS to the Atrix is that if Moto decides to EOL the Atrix after only a year with no ICS upgrade, you lose out on updated drivers, kernel, and baseband. Sure we'd have ICS, but it won't run as well as a phone that natively has ICS.

Getting Bored with My G2

I've owned my G2 since it's been out, and I have to say that I'm starting to get bored with it. I have it rooted and I've flashed just about every ROM that's been released for it. Sadly, all the recent ROM development is for ICS, and most of those are in alpha/beta stages. I need something new, fresh and is close to 100% bug-free as possible. I've played with most of the Sense based ROMs, MIUI, and CM7 creations, but my primary DD has been CM7.1 Stable.
Just thought I'd share my thoughts here, see if I'm not alone in this, and what others have done to get out of this rut.

My contract won't expire for about a year, and I'll more than likely be leaving TMO as their service is horrible in my new place. That's an issue that really isn't tolerable at all, but my boredom comes from the decline in ROM development for this kick ass phone. Sure, it's an older phone, but it's still a great phone that other phones can't compete with. Also, I tried ICS and I honestly wasn't all that impressed with it. I still enjoyed running Froyo and love Gingerbread, and wish I had the skills/talent to develop updated/enhanced flavors of Sense/AOSP/MIUI based ROMs. There's many to choose out there, but as I said so many of them are in alpha/beta stages with the prevalent "camera not working" bug.
The purpose of this thread was more so to see what ROMs people were using as their DDs, but based on your question I'd be interested to hear what G2 owners have upgraded their phones to as well. I love my G2 and will be sad to part ways with it when that day comes.

I'm getting equally bored. My contract isn't up till next jan but I'm thinking of trading in for an asus padfone. This will also replace my asus transformer. I enjoy the keyboard on the DZ but I just feel there is a drop in gingerbread development and ICS is in need of proper drivers. Maybe things will change when the DHD get official update.

I've been using gb miui for nearly the time I've had this phone (about 6 months). I've played with the HTC one x and galaxy note and without custom roms I don't think they are any smoother in general interface than what I have (overclock to 1.5 helps). However you are right, I've also tried nearly every rom out there and after a few hours or days running an ics rom I always come back to miui because it's bug free and fast.
Development has slowed lately, probably because they've run out of things to improve, but there are a few ics development teams improving their roms on a weekly basis so in a couple of months I'd hope for a near perfect ics version.
Saying that I'll be getting a galaxy note in a few days because I still want something new and different.

I first flashed it in February and have come back to it every time I've flashed another ROM. That's more that can be said of any other ROM I've had.
Supersmooth performance, stable and everything works.
In regards to the phone itself; this is the first phone I've ever had where I'm actually reluctant to get another because I don't want to let it go. I bought my DZ about 14 months ago. I'm not bound to any contract so that is not why I keep it around. I'm guessing it must be true love

We have 90% ICS. Only Camera video recording is outstanding. Same on many other ROMS for other handsets I presume.
BTW, will ICS ever be 100% on Nexus One? What do you think? ICS camera dev seems to be dead
Perhaps if we get 3 years out of owning the N1 we can hold our heads high and be proud enough to move on!

For me it is very stable but CM9 & AOKP ROMs didn't reached stable requirements yet because they have bugs that are important to fix and crucial for the rom's workflow. They are considered experimental for now (CM team released this week CM9 RC1).
Jelly Bean looks bad ass, especially with project butter and the new voice command.
It is also the reason I have finally decided to move on from my N1 after 2 and a half years of loyal service. The failing battery, the half-functioning trackball, and constantly battling internal storage woes have forced me to move on.
The good news is there is a Galaxy Nexus with my name on it, heading my way right now.

Even Google drops the price of galaxy nexus to $300, I will stick with the N1.
I'm really hoping the devs can integrate some of the new things in Jelly Bean to their current ROMs without much extra work. I think it should be possible due to very incremental nature of the update.
That said, I've pretty much accepted that if it is possible, it's highly unlikely they'll be able to integrate the Project Butter stuff from what Google has said about it! Seems it will use massive amounts of system storage and RAM, so that's almost definitely out of our N1's capabilities.
I would be amazed if they managed to get that in there. I still hope they can manage to get Google Now and all the other little tweaks in to a potential JB ROM for the N1.

will G2 get custom 4.4 based roms?

right now I'm still torn between G2 and Nexus 5, while G2 clearly has a rather superior hardware I've been spoiled with the look from pure 4.4 experience also unfortunately the Nexus isn't available yet on my country.
but from what I've seen there is no 4.4 based rom for G2 too, the question is, will it happen? specifically though I really want the kitkat version of Paranoid Android, will it come to G2? or is it actually more sure will come faster to Nexus 5?
It will eventually. But no manufacturers will gets it as fast nexus devices. If on time updates and rom is your main concern then your choice is limited.
-LG G2
I'm torn about this too, interested in the G2's battery life but only if I can get AOSP very smoothly and with no fuss. I wonder how stable CM11 nightlies will be for the first few months.

yeah, gsmarena battery test on nexus 5 kill my enthusiasm with it, however if it still a looong way for G2 to get 4.4 based rom then I'll just get nexus.
I know that everyone says that Nexus devices get updates the soonest, and while that's completely true and valid, to me it doesn't feel that way. I usually wait for CM or AOKP to put out stable builds before I upgrade, and by then they've built for every device and my neighbor's cat. Heck, it's been two weeks since 4.4 came out, and so far the Nexus 5 and the Nexus 7 officially have it, while in the mod community, CM11 is already out for other devices in a useable form. So, certainly official support for Nexus devices is quickest, but practically all the devices in the mod community get updates pretty quick.
That being said, the Nexus 4 has no official 4.4, but we on LG G2 are going to get CM11 very soon.
is this phone really get the support for at least 2 years from LG or they will just leave G2 behind with only one/ two update provided like what they did on their flagship phone in the past like LG Optimus 2x

It's so true. I'm disheartened by the lack of availability for the d803, however don't posses the skills to do something about it. I've started down the long road of trying to learn for myself so I'm not just one of those people that sit idly by and complain... but like I said it's a long road and it feels like I'll probably own a G4 by the time if figure out how to bring ROMs over to the G2 lol
I was obsessing over getting the nexus 5 for as long as it was leaked it was coming out. Once it was confirmed it wasn't coming to Verizon I thought I would settle for the G2. Let me tell you that now I have had it for 2 weeks and tried every ROM out there so far. I can happily say I didn't settle at all. Great phone. Came from gnex. Roms are coming out. Not at nexus speed but they are out there. Waiting for pa 4.0 but I am rocking a ROM from the droid Razer forum not xda called vallidus by GZ ROMs. Lots of functions. Everything you could want. Build is 4.3.1 base. Absolutely stable.

will it work on the international version of G2?
Hosers, eh?
Well, my take is that the Nexus is so similar to the G2 that we can't help but get lots of dev support (ie, so many of us who didn't want to wait for the Nexus and/or changed our minds at the last minute the same way a Chevy dealer puts a Corvette in the showroom to sell you a Malibu). We might not see as much as the G4 or the One, but Chrysler still sells a ton of cars even though they are not Ford or GM. I came from a Skyrocket which was just different enough from the S2 not to use the same roms, but close enough that it still has (unofficial) CM/PA/AOKP/PacMan support plus half a dozen hobbyist roms two years out.
Will we get "Official LG" Android 4.5 six minutes after the Nexus? No. Will I be stripping the factory rom and bloat off my phone the instant I get home from vacay (and off this stupid mac) and NEVER looking back? Absolutely.
And to the 803 guys and gals, I make no claims to be an expert by any means, but from the little reading I have done so far, the main difference between the models seems to be in the bootloader not the rom, so if that's the case you're bound to have someone up there willing to compile CM or whathaveyou for the 803... it just might not be "official."

I came from a Skyrocket which was just different enough from the S2 not to use the same roms, but close enough that it still has (unofficial) CM/PA/AOKP/PacMan support plus half a dozen hobbyist roms two years out.

*off topic* CM and PAC are both official for the rocket, so is Carbon and Slim Bean. That community is awesome and I still find myself visiting it daily. Team chopsticks already have a pretty stable alpha 2 version of cm11 up for the ol' 727 and, you're right, there are a ton of hobbyists in that community that have brought just about every rom you could want.
I'm just worried about getting myself into a situation where AOSP ROMs aren't working out or have problems. What's the main diff between T-Mobile (D801), AT&T (D800), and international (D802)? Does international work on US LTE? Does the Loki patch and CM 10.2 absolutely work on the T-Mobile version?
People.. Quit worrying it will happen
