pondering this phone. - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What's battery life like with a quad core mobile CPU? 2-3hrs? Does the CPU help for texting. Is it really made by lg? Is it worth paying half the price of the note 2? Do people run up to you and say "omfgzzzzz you have this phone?!" Just a few deciding factors. Does it feel cheap and does Google know everything about you know? I'm Seriously asking all this stuff not flaming. I want some user opinions. Than for lookin =]

Hahaha. Wow.
I get around 4.5 hours screen on time.
The CPU helps for all functions. Think smooooth.
Yes, LG makes it.
It's worth more than they charge for it.
Not in my experience, but people have expressed amazement at it's beauty.

1) 3-4 hours screen on time depending on usage and reception.
2)Weird question. Never had sluggish texting on any phone. Ever.
3)Yes, its really made by LG
4)I would pay twice as much as the Note 2 for this phone.
5)Yes, random chicks want to make out with me because of it.
6)It's the most premium feeling phone I've owned.
7)Google knows all.

How do you get 4.5 hours of screen on time? Stock or custom? Rom kernel etc
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

With custom ROM and kernel I get a good 4.5 to 5 hours screen time. Using paranoid android, AOKP, or cm with trinity or faux kernel. All combos gave about the same performance.

Ha, I don't think I've seen that type of reaction over a phone since the G1 was released by T-mobile. (Before that it was Blackberry)
Android phones are pretty common now... If people are not walking around with iPhone, then its gotta be Android (Unless your like my 87 yr old Grandfather that only like the Nokia bar phones)
But I've had a few people ask about it, where to get one, etc. But that's usually after I tell em it only Cost $400-

Stock rooted. I only get 3.5 -4 hours screen time.

[Review] Samsung Conquer 4G

Picked this phone up for the wife last night, finally converted her from her blackberry curve....yuck. Pretty good phone, screen obvoiusly not my epic but perfect for her. Very snappy, first thing i noticed was when you pull the notification menu down, there are no toggles there which i though sucks since im so used to it. havent tested out the camera yet, it is super thin, damn near just the size of our screens, so if you could take off the keyboard.
The back of the phone looks exactly like the leaked pictures of the "Epic Touch 4G" and it is a really nice addition, good grip, looks good, and wont scratch.
She is in love already, ill post up here after a couple days on the battery.
i thought it looked like a good little phone. as for the buttons on the top of the dock most of them are replicated with the power widget
I would like to add, Notification Toggle in the Market is a great app to add the switches in the pull down.
I wanted to check this phone out for my daighter, I bought her an LG Optimus S and she wants to upgrade. Thanks for the insight

Any reason you choose this over a cheaper phone like the nexus S 4g? It has a better screen, better camera, and faster or similiar performance.

It's kinda funny, I've come to figure out that the toggle controls in the notification bar have almost become a must have for me in a phone. I can't explain it, I just like/want that feature that much. Granted I'm picking up the GS2, so its all good

Im married, I choose my battles wisely, not to mention at least she will get to play with this one before i do since there is -Zero- community for it at the moment, the Nexus i would have probably "had to take with me to work so i can make sure everything is working correctly" he he he he.
Also, i wanted to make sure that she had a lesser of a screen for better juice, the girl is a facebook nut, and im sure will have a million things constantly updating, i already got yelled at for lowering her screen timeout to 30 seconds from a min.
I'm still trying to convince her that i really need to keep my dirtbike since its a great workout.....ill let her pick the phone.

I bought my gf a LG Optimus T. They have CM7 on there and the phone rocks with that done to it. It also gets great battery life with some custom kernel and OC. Might want to look into that before you upgrade her phone for her.

SRobby -- Thanks for your review/comments about the Conquer 4G. I've been thinking about upgrading to this one as well, and right now Sprint is offering it for free online with a new 2-yr contract. Since I'm on a budget and can't really afford a snazzy top of the line upgrade, FREE is pretty attractive right now.
Any updates on the Conquer's performance after your wife has been using it for a few months? Has she been noticing any issues?

nice review of battery life. DO note these are achieved with all stock settings. Once the custom kernel arrives we can get much battery life and even we can disable some cores as needed.
I hope the battery life on the S4 version is comparable. Its too bad LTE markets can't get Exynos.

You have the Droid Razr Maxx.
Tinkering is the reason why I'm switching back to Android.
I took a year off tinkering and had an iPhone. It was a good year, but now iOS bores me to death. The games are SO much better than Android games, but the OS just bores me, and the screen is starting to feel too small.
The great thing is, you can choose whether you want a phone to tinker with or a "set it and forget it" type of experience.
Also, my wife does not tinker. Ever. She has had an HTC Legend for two years now and she's quite satisfied with it, she even brags about the great battery life sometimes. I'm giving her my iPhone once I get my SGS3 because I think she will love iOS more than Android.
It's good to have options. Options are yummy.
My point is, if you don't want to tinker, choose an OS that has the default UI that you like the most. Whining about hackability and modability (that's probably not a word) is kinda weird IMO.
This is pretty nice
If the battery life of the iPhone is really that great, they must have improved it a lot. Because my 3GS had poor battery life.

All iam saying is that i shouldn't have to tinker to get most out of myphone...smart phones are following pc route of bumping up processor speeds and adding cores...keep the cpu at dual core, improve on design and efficiency and deliver a smartphone that is truely better than the previous model.
you need quad cores to do facebook, email, video, blogging, tweeting..or anyother business apps.???.. Arrghh.

Smartphones are becoming the ONE device to carry.
I can imagine the 4 cores being used for gaming by one intensive game, but more importantly they can be used for doing 4 things at the same time. We are using our smartphones more than our PCs these days, so it makes sense to keep upgrading while at the same time improving on architecture and efficiency. And this is what Samsung has done with the S3.
By your logic we should have stayed at single core at around 600 MHz and never improved..

This is an impossibility. Tinkering will always get you some more power/features (excepting only cases where the OS is so locked down that doing anything will fry it, for example) and so you'll always have to tinker to "get the most out of yourphone".

lol the S4 is better than the quadcore exynos.
PS: "Tinkering" should be an option... not a need. Most android phones NEED to be tinkered with in order to get a somewhat reasonably satisfying experience.
So, why did I order a second battery? No need =d

I agree and I believe that it's essential for Android's future success to allow for a near perfect user experience without tweaking. But, that being said, looking at the other mobile OSes, you'll see that you're very restricted in customization which is an advantage and a disadvantage. But I guess as time goes on, both batteries and processors will get better (not linearly) and it won't really be an issue.

How do you like the Sense compared to the stock N4?
I prefer stock, but the new version of Sense really isn't bad. It does not slow the device down like their previous versions did.
I just got my HTC One from AT&T,coming from a Nexus 4. I have to say this is the only phone I could have switched from. The build is superior, new sense isn't bad although I prefer stock JB. But the keyboard is alsoa pleasant surprise on the One.

My Nexus 4 is going on ebay next week. Most overrated phone. I still have my white GNex so I will still get the updates.
Had my HTC one now since became available, moved from N4, still have N4 but so far not been tempted to go back. New sense is pretty good, would like to turn blink feed off but its not intrusive to be an issue. Sound quality is much better through my head phones over the nexus and camera is better. More storage is a bonus too. Over all a much better phone even better if came with untouched android. Main reason I changed is I'm a tech junky and like HTC kit been waiting for them to bring out something of this quality.
Now a Nexus like this... Yes please!

This will most likely be my plan as well. I actually ordered the 32gb from HTC last night. After selling my N4, I'll be down about $250 which I'll just consider as an upgrade cost. If the N5 follows the same pricing structure as the 4, I should be able to break almost even when selling/buying.
Hi all, I m on N4 right now and I do like it a lot, will probably give KLP a spin then watch if some CM and co are around on the One, then I ll get rid of it.
My question is regarding the battery?
I know, I know, everyone is different, but the personal habits should more or less carry between phones for one individual, right?
So please give me your impressions regarding this?

From what I've read, the battery life is similar to the N4. One of the reviews also said the One has a really good standby (screen off) battery life, but someone who actually has it will have a better opinion.
Given sufficient funds, I would strongly advise to get the One over the N4. I really hated screen responsiveness, camera and the weird feeling of the glass back. And the speaker on the N4 can't even be compared to the ONE. And Sense has really made a big step forward. As all the others, I like a stock experience, but can completely work with Sense 5.0 in a satisfying way.

Well, N4 is also quite good if I don't use it, but as soon as screen is on, the percentages fly away quite quickly. For example I use my N4 to read a lot, which is not very ressources intensive, but really the battery is going fast!
I m not trying to start an argument, I m simply curious

I think the speaker will be my favorite change. If the N4 is in my pocket, I can hardly hear the sound, since the little speaker hole is so easy to get covered up. I'm also willing to get Sense a go, worst case I'll just load a launcher.

At the time Note 2 was released, these were killer specs and its still a very functional and modern phone. Full HD display is a buzzword of this time and frankly speaking I dont care about it that much. Note 2's display is sharp enough. Full HD display takes its toll on battery and CPU/GPU too.
Larger battery? Boss this is the first Android phone that I have owned which works without charging for two days with quite heavy use. They way you are saying it, even if they had given 5000 mah battery you would have been saying....bah! Only 5000 mah, it should have been 8000 mah at least
I know the more the better but there has to be an appropriate limit. Note 2 is arguably one of the best phones of its time and it still rocks. Sucks is a word you cannot use in its context.

I run a custom app for my work doing test sheets exporting data from laptop to this and vis versa, it runs seamlessly where as it was really slow on the note 2.
The only thing that bugs me so far is that there are no official cases out yet.
Let's just hope it keeps running as strong.

Who cares?
Does it seem faster to you? Does it perform better for what you do?
That's what matters not all of these retarded benchmarks, I can't believe there are so many different benchmark apps and everyone gets so worked up.over them.

Exactly. When I read the title of the thread I was expecting OP to tell us how blown away he was by the performance, come to find out its stupid idiotic annoying benchmarks.

I have bad news for you. The machine is quite fast but Samsung cheated on the benchmarks. Read this link: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013...rking-adjustments-inflate-scores-by-up-to-20/

If the device is fast then that's all that matters. Benchmarks are for those who want to measure their tiny wieners.

I am blown away from the performance. But like the statement says I don't think the results jump in the "idiotic annoying benchmarks" is true to the out right performance from the note 2. Which I guess is now explained in other threads with the manipulation of benchmarks.

Samsung always cheat on quadrant scores and its due to all the sites that obsess about them I just go on personal opinion if it feels faster and performs better I couldn't care less I have never even downloaded quadrant as its a load of balls if you want to see how good your device is fire up loads of apps do some multitasking or play a game like modern combat 4

That was the case with NiCad batteries. That doesn't need to be done for lithium batteries. Nevertheless, store reps never fail to recite that procedure whenever a customer buys a new phone. I just nodded my head and went on my way when I picked up the S4. I'll probably get the same spiel when I pick up my N3 tomorrow... err later today.

Cool, thanks for the info Albaholic :highfive:. I'm surprised I didn't find this out sooner.
