Daft quick question. - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Could someone confirm to me the most up to date Android version for the Nexus 4. Is it 4.2.1 or 4.2.2? I just got my phone today and started it up then it had an OTA update. Ran that. Later today I rooted phone and installed CWM. Afterwards my system shows 4.2.1. For some reason I had in my head that the OTA this afternoon. Updated to 4.2.2 but I could be very much mistaken.
Thanks in advance.

Update?

I just received my nexus 7 and there's already an update available. I plan on rooting and flashing a custom rom. Should I update or not? I know sometimes an update can cause problems when it comes to rooting and whatnot so I thought I'd ask first.. thanks for any feedback!

Yes update it. I updated to 4.1.1 first then unlocked, then rooted with permanent cwm then flashed touch cwm from rom manager.
Use nexus toolkit though so you can restore stock recovery to flash Amy new updates and root again easily.
Also no harm updating to 4.1.1 and then rooting we have methods set up for that right now.

You can root it before or after update, you're just updating to 4.1.1, or you can install a ROM that is already there, if you're rooting either way, just go for it right away

Thanks a lot for your quick responses! Lovin it so far no issues like I've heard about.

This is a nexus device. Unlike other devices you never need to fear an update may break your ability to root.

Will 4.3 remove the LTE featured I flashed on 4.2.2

Thanks in advance guys!

It will. 4.3 isn't fully compatible with the LTE enabled, older radio. People are messing with hybrid radios to fix the incompatibility issues, but that's still a work in process i.e. bugs.

My OTA update said 4.3 was ready to install, but when I clicked install nothing seemed to happen. I am rooted and have TWRP installed as my recovery. Any suggestions?
And now when I check for an update, my phone says I'm up to date but I'm still on 4.2.2.

You have to do it manually by use fastboot method. OTA is not gonna work when you flash the TWRP as your Recovery.
2 method: 1. fastboot flash your recovery back to stock one OTA will work. 2. Flash your N4 with fastboot to get 4.3 ROM.
I went back to the stock 4.2.2 rom and I'm not rooted anymore, but now the stock recovery doesn't work. So how can I update to 4.3?

[Q] Update to 4.3 process.

Quick question. I have finally decided to upgrade from 4.2.2 (PA 3.60) to a different 4.3 ROM (PSX).
I have been searching for the correct steps to do so. My question is, do I need to update bootloader and radio first? And if I do, can I restore a 4.2.2 backup if needed with the newer bootloader?
Sorry if this has already been addressed ...I'm sure I have missed it in the forums somewhere.

You don't have to update the bootloader or radio but you should. If you want to go back to 4.2.2 you can

The OTA is not out yet, you got 2 options:
1.Wait for OTA.
2.Flash factory image(there are guides here on XDA).

This do not warrant creating a new thread in the general section or any section.
OTA is rolling out right now, just wait.

Hi Bhargav,
I was in the exact same situation as you this time yesterday, now I'm enjoying brand new, shiny and delicious Android KitKat!
You'll need to get the factory image if you don't want to wait for the OTA. I followed this step by step guide which you'll find in the Nexus 4 sticky roll up thread...

It was written as a 4.3 guide but works just the same for 4.4. Enjoy KitKat!

I'm too lazy to backup & unroot & back to stock to get 1.7mb of OTA... Should I just ignore this one?
It seems to be trivial enough.. 1.7mb?

I am, At least until I see reports of the N7 shooting flames out of its tail pipes and burning rubber from the new update.
4.4.2 alraedy?
I just got 4.4.2 update download as well, didn't even receive the 4.4.1 notice yet. Won't install for now, will wait for Franco kernel to be updated as well as bionic/dalvik patches.

Haven't even gotten 4.4.1 yet, still on 4.4. What's the speed of this rolling out. I know it's based on serial numbers, but folks already getting 4.4.2 while some of us haven't even gotten 4.4.1.
Has anyone tried OTA Survival Mode yet with recent (1.55 and above if I am correct) SuperSu Pro? I read about succesful updates from 4.3 to 4.4 and 4.4 to 4.4.1 with our device while keeping root, but also about soft-bricked devices. Would make life easier if it works because I have stock recovery and wouldn't need to temporaryly adb load TWRP via Usb every time after OTA to reroot.

I never saw 4.4.1 but 4.4.2 is installing right now. First I was aware that there was a 4.4.2.
I got it OTA. No difference at all. Except the keyboard noise now sounds like a kids toy.
Edit: After using it a bit I think video performance is a lot better, seems more stable. And YouTube now works properly for me.
just got mine it was 58mb
(i didn't receive the 4.4.1 ota update)
