LTE Toggle - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there an app or toggle I can get for LTE?
I do it right now by enterting *#*#4636#*#* and it works great, but I like to turn it off and on throughout the day and you lose it by rebooting as well. Is there an app available that can toggle this quickly? I have an LTE toggle on my AOKP build 2 rom, but I find it just disconnects me completely from my carrier.

Possibly this.

Definitely has a 4g switch widget. Shows inactive for me though perhaps because I've never activated 4g.

I think this should be expected with any LTE toggle.

[Q] Is there any rom that has LTE enabled by default?

Hello!
I'm kind of new on this, I was wondering if there is a estable custom rom that has 4G LTE enabled by default with wifi tethering as well, I am on the T-mobile network in a 4G LTE enabled area and is annoying to do dial everytime I restart or tunr off my my phone to enable the LTE, I am rooted and running .33 radio, THANKS FOR READING.

Look on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2209368, that may help you. Not rom related btw, only by the radio. Need root though.
you missunderstood my quetion
I already know that, what I want is a stable rom that has LTE enabled by default instead of dialing every time I restart the phone

If you absolutely must, you can edit the build.prop:
Go to the line with telephony.lteOnCdmaDevice=0 and replace it with:
telephony.lteOnGsmDevice=1
ro.telephony.default_network=9
ro.ril.def.preferred.network=9
You may need to wipe dalvik cache or clear your data. On CM based ROMs this enables the LTE tile in QuickSettings and will save LTE on/off status through reboot. I don't necessarily recommend using LTE personally, however.

Any reason why? Just curious mostly (I'm nowhere near a LTE area)

You lose features specifically continuous focus on the camera and network based location services whole connected to LTE.

GPS doesn't (always) work correctly
Using the .33 or older radios with 4.2.2 can cause continuous autofocus issues (as above poster mentions)
On stock 4.2.2 will cause call audio issues (on T-Mobile, reports say it works fine on other carriers, it also works fine on CM and some other ROMs)
Google Now doesn't work over LTE
Since most carriers don't have VoLTE (Voice over LTE) enabled, when receiving or making a call the phone takes a minimum of 10-20 seconds to switch from LTE to UMTS because a call can't be made while on LTE and calls can just plain fail when LTE doesn't want to be switched off (even with changes, the radio seems to have a lot of trouble switching between LTE and GSM/UMTS/HSPA)
I've made the changes to my build.prop, I just very, very rarely turn LTE on. I get up to 30Mbps on HSPA+, I don't really need LTE, unless I want to brag about getting 50-70Mbps, because it isn't worth dealing with all of the above. LTE is nice if you're in a strong LTE signal area (the radios refuse to switch from LTE to HSPA+ when the signal is exceptionally low unless you switch LTE back off), don't make or receive calls, need a massive amount of bandwidth that's larger than most people get at home in the US, and want to use up your data allotment as quickly as possible.

[Q] LTE Toggle

Is there currently a way to toggle LTE on/off on the ATT S4? It really pisses me off that ATT hides the phone menu that allows you to do this. I don't want to root my phone, I just want to have the ability to toggle LTE off when I am in areas with weak or no LTE.

1. Your phone will switch from 4g to LTE when the signal picks up or lessens.
2. *#*#4636#*#* then Device Info, and change your Radio to GSM/CDMA (PRL)

This is very useful to know, thank you!
Actually you want to choose "WCDMA Preferred" and not "GSM/CDMA" if you are using a GSM network.
That way it will use HSPA+ and not LTE. I use it every morning when I wake up cause I am on the outer boundary of LTE coverage with barely 2 bars, and full bars of HSPA.

[Q] Shortcut to toggle 2G? [SOLVED]

I'm currently using PA and looking for an easy way to toggle "Use 2G only" when I connect to a wireless network. I've tried tasker and llama, but they change the network mode when toggling back. I'm configured for 4G, so switching back to WCDMA doesn't help me much.
Thanks in advance.

What do you you mean with they changed the network mode when toggling back?
Swyped from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
Tasker and llama have an option to toggle 2G/3G or wimax. When it executes the command to switch to 2G, it checks the box and switches network type to GSM. When you toggle it again, it unchecks the box but also switches back to WCDMA which is the default network type. I need the network type to stay LTE/GSM.

I don't use Paranoid Android but I'm pretty sure it has Quick Settings customization. You just go into Quick Settings menu and enable "Network modes". The older CyanogenMod power widgets have that toggle too.

LTE option only show up if you flash the LTE package that install LTE baseband and edit the build.prop to enable it. It's a separate toggle dedicated to turning on and off LTE only.

I have LTE auto-enabled. My issue, is getting an auto-toggle between 2G and LTE.
I don't know if you have downloaded and used power toggles. I use the power toggles widget and quite easily toggle 3g & 2g. Hope this helps.

There is no CyanogenMod toggle to allow you to get directly between LTE and 2G, you have to first disable LTE, it will automatically go to HSPA after that, then you have to press the 2G/3G toggle to change it to 2G manually. I do not know of any other ways. In *#*#4636#*#*, you can select LTE/GSM, but I doubt it will work for your purpose either.
Thanks for some of the replies, but I'm NOT trying to change the network mode. My network mode is currently set to LTE/GSM and if I check the "use 2g only" (see screen shot) then the network mode switches to GSM only and back to LTE/GSM when unchecked. Any of the toggles listed by others above change the network mode and have no method to change the network mode to LTE/GSM.

I was able to do this with Tasker. I didn't realize that by default, Tasker will restore settings to their previous state when they exit the profile. Previously, I was trying to use a second profile to set the network mode back, and this is where I ran into problems. I also set up a second profile (along with the Secure Settings plugin) to enable/disable GPS when going between Wi-Fi.
Now, to just configure it to NOT switch the network mode while on a call.. I think there's an IF statement for that.
You can use secure settings with tasker to force lte also. That's what I do.

Good to know! Thanks
This won't be very helpful, but I found out AOKP have a specific 2G toggle, I would guess this means PAC rom should have it to. You can toggle between LTE and 2G, but switching it to LTE really means 'lte/wcdma/gsm'.

@eksasol Thanks, but I primarily use PA.
@frigidazzi I tried switching to LTE with secure settings, but it changed my network mode to GSM/CDMA. Can you get it to switch to LTE/GSM?
Yes. Mine goes to lte/gsm auto prl. I'm on radio .33. Using aokp 4.2.2 with newest Franco kernel. I'm not sure which is the trick to get it to work. I've never had a problem with it.

Thanks. I may play with it more later, but will probably leave it lie since it's working as I need it to.

4g / LTE Toggle / radio control

At work the 4g LTE signal for ATT is very poor in the building, but we have 4g repeaters for ATT to fix this issue. Unfortunately, phones are stubborn and like to stay on 4g LTE despite having 1 bar of signal vs full signal with 4g. I had this same issue on my iphone 5 but was able to easily force off LTE while i was at work and have a steady, reliable data connection. My Note 4 seems to have the same affinity to wanting to be on 1 bar of LTE, but I cannot figure out a way to toggle / force LTE off and just use 4g. Anyone have any ideas? Anyone know of an application I can use to resolve this issue?
Thanks
try settings...more networks...mobile networks....network mode....It should be in there..I have the sprint model so I don't know for sure...but that is where mine is....hope this helps

Unfortunately, there is no option for Network mode on the ATT version. I wonder if this has to do with voLTE....
I did find a backway to the network mode via *#*#4636#*#* but I am unsure of what I should be setting to "disable" lte while I'm in the building at work.
I think I've sorted this out now. If I change LTE/GSM AUTO to WCDMA preferred it seems to immediately switch and hold onto 4G. I do have to change it back. Maybe I will write something so I can quick toggle this since nothing on the app store seems to work.
hi,
If you are rooted ? You can use an xpose module called Intelli3G
I use it on my phone ,works 100% and switches smoothly/fast between eg 4G..3G automatic
eg if my data is of its on 3G as soon as i switch data on /wifi it changes to 4 G
For interest sake ,here is a link to market ,you can read desciption what it does ?

good luck

Switch network mode 2G/3G/4G (Tasker; without root) ?

Hi there.
Is there any way, to toggle network mode from 4G to 2G without root?
The problem is, that when im at work or at home, my 4G signal strenght is really weak, so it drains my battery too fast. When i manually switch to 2g, the signal strenght is good.
Is there any way without root to toggle network mode with tasker or other apps, while my smartphone is connected to my home or office wifi?
I tried AutoTools w/ tasker and changed the preferred_network_mode1 according to this tutorial, but it did not seem to work:
https://www.reddit.com/r/tasker/comments/6aif23/tip_change_network_type_2g_3g_without_root/
any help appreciated.
cheers

im on the international/european unbranded version.
yes, i do have that option but i would still like to use 4g, when not connected to my home/office wifi.
I hear ya, I'm on sprint which is a bit of a pain because it'll reboot phone when switched, try dialing *#*#info#*#* from dialer and you should be able to change network type from there on that model(yes I know not exactly what your looking for), but that's only thing I can think of without having to root or reboot phone each time(I don't own that model so I don't know that particular phones software)
