I tried transferring it from my Galaxy Nexus, but it kept FC'ing. There is a way to get it working, but i requires root, so I ditched that idea for the time beeing (It involves using Titanium backup to transfer data).
My nexus 10 is already rooted, the problem is my my i9100 is faulty and I don't have a backed up titanium available that's why I need to start using my nexus 10

I installed it via their website:
http://www.whatsapp.com/android/current/WhatsApp.apk
On first launch it shows a message, something like "currently not supported on tablets".
After I denied the permission to "read phone identy and state" via srt-appguard I was able to start whatsapp. ("pdroid" or "lbe privacy guard" are maybe alternatives but they didn't work when i bought my nexus 10)
Next problem is that whatsapp needs to send a sms or get the call. This is not possible. You have to get the window where you can type that number you get on your cellphone.
Switching apps to appguard and permitting the right again while having whatsapp still running in background activated it for me.
Before quitting whatsapp I denied "read phone id..." again.
Sounds complicated and it is annoying, for sure but it worked
Now I have a backup of whatsappdata and just need to install apk via website, deny permission and get the old data files via titanium backup.
Maybe there is an easier workaround out now
Tried our method but I keep getting whatsapp has been modified, try getting whatsapp from blah blah blah

finally got mine working with root. . . . got it from http://www.android-hilfe.de/asus-ee...whatsapp-auf-tablet-jetzt-auch-ohne-root.html
Download Whatsapp http://www.whatsapp.com/android/current/WhatsApp.apk and LBE Privacy Guard http://dl.dropbox.com/u/37033686/LBE_Security.apk
First install Whatsapp
2nd install LBE Privacy Guard
3rd Open LBE Privacy Guard
- Allow superuser rights
-4 Menu's are there on the next page wipe
-Active Defense Select -> Managing Permission -> All Apps
Whatsapp-search and select
-"Phone ID" click select "Deny" -> "SMS Sending" select (Deny) -> "Phone Call" select (Allow)
4th Open Whatsapp -> Continue and Agree -> Security Warning from LBE accept up (Allow), select your country and input your phone number, get your six digits code sent from whatsapp and input it after the countdown. If LBE wants something always agree.
5th Important: If you have everything set up, then give over LBE Whatsapp all rights again or simply uninstall LBE.

Thank you so much for sharing this! It worked perfectly. I still don't know why WhatsApp makes us jump through these hoops.
You are welcome, I also have no idea since we still need to verify our number

Did u install LBE Security and followed the instructions? Cos it seems u did not

Does it work on 2 devices? Some people says they can use it on both devices, however I can't, everytime I try to on a different device, tablet or phone, it asks me to verify number, and then it works only on 1 device.
Don't think it works on more than 1 device

After rooting my Nexus 7, the device is now missing from the "My Apps" section of the Play Store.
Has anyone else had this problem and know what to do?
Possibly not the right answer, but;
Hit the arrow that is sitting next to the search icon at the top of the market home page. That takes you to your downloaded/installed apps, and you can scroll across to see all apps from there as well.
Umm when you root, you lose all your apps, you gotta restore them
The biggest issue is that Google doesn't think he has a nexus. I give it a day or so, in the meanwhile install off of the nexus.

Umm OP is not referring to missing apps. He/she is referring to his/her device not appearing anymore in Google Play. this means he/she cannot use the Play website to install apps on his/her Nexus 7.
As someone else mentioned, just give Google a little while to update itself. another thing to check is to login at play.google.com, click the settings icon (looks like a little gear) at the top right of page and goto 'My orders and Settings' then click the Settings tab, and check if your device is listed but not selected as 'Shown in Menus'
Hi. I am planning to purchase the PRO key for Titanium Backup but I need to understand some things better before I buy:
1. Will the pro key allow me to restore the apps and link them to the Market? (Meaning they will show up in "My apps" section in Google Play Store and I will be able to update them as usual, they would act as I have downloaded them from the store)
2. Referring to the above question, is it only possible with the PRO key? What will happen if I restore with the free app? Nothing will show up in "My Apps" section in Google Play Store?
3. After I backup, should I leave the backup on the device?
Also, for some reason Adaway doesn't block all the ads (I am not sure it even block ads). Is there any tutorial to use it? I have downloaded the latest hosts file from the app itself.
Thanks!
1 yes
2 with the free version you'll have to hit the install button for every app. I recommend getting the pro version it will give you more options
3 leave the backup on your phone
Google removed ad blocking apps from the market

Okay so just to be sure, restoring with the PRO key is just like downloading directly from the store?
And about AdAway, I installed the apk but it doesn't block certain apps. Is there something I can do to make it block all ads?

For me I don't get any ads over Wifi but I get them while on Mobile data. It's quite annoying because I'm not really used to them since adblock seemed to work fine on my HD2 and even on this phone on 4.2.1 stock rooted.
I think I accidentally downloaded a hosts file to data/data/hosts. How can I revert this (if I should)?
For adblocking, I often use firewall to block internet connections (wifi/data) of the applications, and also using a hosts file, too. It works
Navigate to Settings > Apps, and enable the option which lets you see all apps.
Then, you scroll down the alphabetical list to Google Services Framework, open it up and tap Clear Data and then Force Stop.
Then go back and check for an update by going to Settings > About > System Update.
It took me 3 or 4 tries to get it to show, but it works!

Thats actually a BAD idea man.
Take it from me, or from say someone who writes android
https://twitter.com/jbqueru/status/360442891417559041
Okay, so why is it bad? It won't hurt anything on your device. They probably don't like it on their end because they want to control the rollout.
Doing so will cause problems with your Google account and services. There have been many reports of people not being able to update or install apps, etc., after doing this. Also the dreaded Google Play [RPC:S-5:AEC-0] error.
Do so at your own risk. But its been heavily covered on xda and anywhere else.
Won't install
I have A Verzion 3G Xoom did what was suggested and it worked perfectly except.... When it rebooted to install it got about 1/3 of the way through and I got the triangle with the ! sign and the Android robot standing underneath it? It is a rooted, unlocked Xoom. I was just wondering if anybody had any ideas why it won't install??
Thanks
G.H.
Becsuse is roots, so cant installed.

[Q] How to turn on "allow install from unknown sources" on 2nd user account on 5.0?
Curious if someone has been able to figure out how to enable the "allow install from unknown sources" on 2nd user account? Not the main or guest account. I share my Nexus 7 with my kids and so I usually have apps from both Google Playstore and Amazon appstore. Since it doesn't allow me to enable the "install from unknown sources" I'm unable to install the amazon apk on the user account used by my kids. Is this a new security feature with 5.0 with no work around, or am I missing something? Thx in advance for the help!

Must be a new security function, maybe? Can anyone with either a Nexus 6/9 chime in to see if it's like that across the board, or if it's a limitation with older devices?

Same story with me and my kid's secondary account on the original N7, no root, nothing but OTAs since purchased. Today he got L OTA and ran screaming that he can't install his apps from Amazon App Store. I can enable/disable unknown sources on my account but the secondary is permanently grayed out.

The ticket that @jumpmanjay submitted to the AOSP channel is gaining some traction. Hopefully it'll get fixed soon.

So I got a replacement phone today. I can't use most of my downloaded apps. It says I have to turn off screen overlay.
It keeps telling me to change my settings. Ugh. I've Googled advice and I keep reading things about disabling lux for example but I don't have that app..
I've also read if I go into my app manager and click on more it should allow me to "draw over" and this isn't an option on my phone..

It's a message from latest security policy from Google. It was introduced in latest update.
When you open an app and this app asks for any kind of permission like access contact, storage or location, you have to make sure that there is no app running on top of everything. This is for your security because this app can answer for you without your permission.
Example: if you have a Messenger chat head open on top of the screen, Google will not let you answer if other application asks for permission. In this case just close the chat head.
