Samsung instead of updating my note to JB can u please give us the tizen update. I can see the monopoly of google on smartphones.
U can use the nokia maps if maps are the issue. I want a good working environment on my phone. Not these fragmented files and apps, keyboard hanging, wifi signals droppig randomly, battery issues, clipping and seperate camera apps.
I want u to integrate the basic features like cam, keyboard and home screen within the system. With most of its variables initialized at all times. Not like a seperate apps then starts when i open it requiring time.
Plus make the camera app stripped with just basic shutter click and flash feature with room to integrate the exposure, type of shot, filters and all these seperately installable in the stock app. So we can customize and feature load the same system app. Instead of using instagram and pudding camera.
As with the keyboard make it very simple and run all times with low mem consumption. Most keyboards and even stock keyboard needs 48 mb of ram while running. I think its too much for just a keyboard. Make it simple no loggers no predictions, no skins but make room to incorporate all these things on need.
For browser chrome is no doubt on top but we need fladh support. If google has bad term with adobe i dont think we wants adobe to suffer, they gave us the entertainment for more than a decade and has the potential to do so.
For graphics make the tizen support all platforms. Ask microsoft to let u lisence direct x which they are retiring.
Make new alliance for your new OS. Google already misled us with the word open source. They should have said open customization but i cant change many things on android. Lets say i dont want the home screens i just want the app drawer. We cant make it happen so sorry its no customization.
Also if u want tizen to compete well, load it with compilers and debuggers like the native linux and u will see development on the run for your new platform.

Love your post :good: everything you said is true, I agree with you.
Actually these android flavors are nothing just a gimmick. Making people buy phones just for an update. Vanilla android update is nothing just a UI tweak in the name of project butter and blah blah blah. Thanks to samsung to give us more features above that android.
Google didnt do anything to make the OS more secure with the updates which is really needed. I have seen a rootkit that lets people scroll through all ur I/O via wifi. More like the wifi tethering in background. We cant even trust all the custom roms, if we are dealing with sensitive mails and other stuff.
Soon people will know that these roms and customization and everything is basically us compromising our data on daily basis.
It will soon get exposed.
So we didnt get what we needed from an OS here.
If we want android UI we will make a launcher or theme to enjoy this experience.

Maps is not an issue. GPS works just fine I get lock within 5 seconds.
WiFi too works fine. WiFi never drops even when I steal it for free in the university. Only time keyboard hung when I was using stock Samsung firmware.
No battery issues here. Have you heard of better battery stats ?
Black Clipping, its a minor issue for me.

Monopolizing, just see how selfish google is and not letting the win phone 8 have the google maps. Their maps are good but nokia maps in case google didnt share their maps with samsung.
Google came in mobile industry claiming it just want people to have better experience with google having no interes. In money making. But it seems like soon google will be head to head with its own oems.
Google had little role in android development and the major role is of the developers who are working for no cost to develop this OS.
Today u people are accusing me after 6 months u guys will be packing ur gear and will head to something other than android.
Yes google forces android users to use its services and now bringing all its services under one banner of google plus. Lets say i only use gmail, why are they forcing me to use g+ and gtalk and show my presence there. Sharing my likes and dislikes there. I know why? To make each and every service of their with millions of users.
I have issues with their search, and most people have.
Their negative marketing, with the updates and depriving capable phones to get the updates on their phones for months. To push their nexus devices on us.
Google think they will destroy the x86 platform with their android and thus capture the specialized computing with their android and its tiny apps to make google computing. Its also not going to happen.
Their competitors are not getting their strategy, but i hope samsung and marissa mayers are up to catch with them.
Samsung or other oems should strip the android with google services and should give us alternatives.
Tired of just google google and google. People are making them another microsoft. I am always an open computing guy, not a fan of tech giant driven computing. Soon they will make out data processed on their servers and just displaying us the results. And we will be having just a display with a wifi and an on board OS. I was my own processing powers.
My regards to madam ada lovelace augusta, who taught us the programming, i think its better to play with my raspberry pi rather than banging my head on android.
Yes adobe is not supporting flash on android because of a conflict with google. But there i. a thing called backeard compatibility.

Well complains and criticism leads to improvements. Why do u use custom roms just to get better experience, why do u complain then. Why dont u use the out of box software. U root ur phone, void warrenty all just for betterment and thats what we are trying here. A constructive criticism. If u read the original post its about how samsung could make tizen better. Ha i have made various med calculators and med terminology dictionary for med trnscription people. many people at my hospital are using it. But i cant put it on google play because its not open for dev in my region.
I dont call change in ui development. I call something new as development . If simple change in UI is development windows 8 would be the most innovative os .

Sorry but you are writing nonesense here. My Note is rooted and I have successfully removed Google+, the native email and Gmail clients, Google search, the whole social media crap... The only thing from Google you actully have to use is the Google account for purchasing apps and synch your contacts and calendar. But not even that is necessary. You can get your apps from other markets like Android pit or Amazon, there are also dedicated open source markets. And you don't need to synch your data with Google. There are various companies that provide their own synch services like Webis, the enterprise that offers Pocketinformant. Or you can simply backup your contacts and calendar using one of the different software solutions out there. So tell me, where is the dependency your are fantasizing about?
Your post is utterly irrational. You accuse Google and it's Android os of beeing monopolized and closed, forcing its users to use services they don't want to use. But you are demanding Tizen os, a software completely written, designed and thus owned by Samsung. If you had Tizen on your phone, Samsung could do whatever they want with it's services, software... you would have a closed ecosystem like iOS and Windows Phone. Nice prospect isn't it?
Do you know what it is that you actually want? Next time please use your brain and do some rational thinking before posting something that by itself does not make any sense at all.
Oh and before I forget about it. You are claiming Google has not developed Android. If it has not been Google, who do you think has written all the code all the different Android versions consist of? The developers at xda? You? Santa and his elves? Rudolf the red nosed reindeer? Do you think you can simply take Linux load it onto a phone and bang you have got Android? I really look forward to getting an answer to that question from you

qazibasit, if you want to complain about Android do it here -->> http://source.android.com/community/index.html
XDA is for developers, not complainers.
Thread Closed.
Related
I bought a g1 last year. I rooted my phone. I fell in love with android and the great community behind it. I am an avid cyanogen mod user.
Google basically ripped out the great fun, learning experimence, and day to day usage i now have in android.
I know how this community feels about 'warez'. I know how this community feels about cyanogen and his contribution to not only us but an 'open source' environment to cell phones.
Well basically what i am getting to is that cyanogen may be legally wrong but what if a developer were to release roms behind closed doors? To torrents and newsgroups and not officially have a face behind said rom. If a developer were to do that, would xda support threads pretaining to that rom? Would all of us still download and love a rom like we do now? Or am i just wrong for getting to that?
If this thread is deleted i understand, but to me i will abandon android if it fails to prosper by the community like true open source software is intended.
Give it time, there are work arounds for ROM makers. Google distributes these applications freely, which means all ROM developers have to do is remove those apps from the ROMs, and give you an application which installs them.
The Android scene is not dead. This sucks, but we will get over it, even without Google's help.
*edit, gary beat me to it..this is in re: to the original post
your not reading before you type...
Google is pissed about him including certain components that were not official yet or closed source. We get over that, and we are back in business. Everyone is way over-reacting, just wait...they will get it figured out. He just cant legally be quite so cutting-edge anymore
I've hard talks of a script that will automatically DL the apps that aren't allowed, I hope that happens soon .
I understand work arounds and what not but do i not have the legal right to use googles closed source apps now that i bought my g1? It is like buying a new car from ford and then ford telling manufacturers of aftermarket products (like air filters or tires) they cant sell them because ford owns the patent to the left head light circuit and it in some legal sense interfers.
A new set of tires on my car is just as damn harmful as using a cyanogen made rom on my phone. I own the hardware, i should be able to do with it as i see fit. Cyanogen doesnt make his roms available to those who dont already own an android licensed product and doesnt do his work for profit that google doesnt see.
They have a legal right yes, but why excersize that legal right when only those who support you already (and if you download cm roms you will more then likely be a future supporter) will end up with the crap end of the stick.
All the crap recently with apple and google voice i have thought to myself that apple will be getting what they deserve by sure to come fines from the fcc. Now google punches us all in the stomache for supporting them and their alledged open source cause. None of us here, including cyanogen, did any actual wrong. If it plays out how it is apparent they want it, everyone loses.

Your analogy is flawed because software cannot be treated the same as tangible items. Anyway, the issue at hand is not your license to use Google's closed-source apps, it is the unauthorized distribution of these apps by "ROM" cooks.
It's more than just a few apps that are closed source, though; many of the fundamental pieces that allow the phones to function are proprietary, such as sync, the LED control, the radio control... Take it all out and you have a phone that can't phone.

You really need to listen to the previous post. Anything that is required for our phones to run is not at question. Mod and distribute away. Led control , radio control, is not at question.
"That’s why we developed Android apps for many of our services like YouTube, Gmail, Google Voice, and so on. These apps are Google’s way of benefiting from Android in the same way that any other developer can, but the apps are not part of the Android platform itself. We make some of these apps available to users of any Android-powered device via Android Market, and others are pre-installed on some phones through business deals. Either way, these apps aren’t open source, and that’s why they aren’t included in the Android source code repository. Unauthorized distribution of this software harms us just like it would any other business, even if it’s done with the best of intentions."
Its the apps that are in question, not the underlying drivers, api's, libraries. So please and anyone else let's not overreact. Lets try to each help find a way to make this a non issue.

Actually, LED, radio, SPL... that's all HTC's property. Even the leaked NBH files that allowed this scene to flourish solely belong to HTC.
So although Google's decision does not affect them, they still fall under the same category of "oh crap...".
This is bad news. The phone is essentially useless without the Gmail app (for sign-in on initial boot as well as contact sync) and Android Market (for downloading any apps). Then take Google Maps out of the picture, and may as well throw the phone out and get an iPhone. At a minimum, this means the days of custom ROMs are over.

Your hyperbole not only singles you out as an ignorant fool, it also highlights the fact you have no idea where the true innovations in Android are. It is not having native GMail or Youtube clients (which are nice), it is in things like dalvik and the ipc framework. These are pieces of code that do not have anything to do with whether Google apps are present or not on the phone (or if it even is a phone).
Who is switching over to Windows Phone 7 if Gingerbread is not what it is hyped up to be. (No new UI, broken features, market not fixed up... ect.)
If Google doesn't fix it up. I prefer a polished, fully working OS compared to a bunch of ROM's that each have their own features, and no one ROM has all the features in one.
Windows Phone 7 will integrate with Windows 7-8, Xbox 360, home servers, and will have Xbox Live marketplace support. I find all this integration a huge feature that will probably bring me over. Microsoft is also said to be creating their own cloud for WP7, Skydrive, and if all Microsoft system's have Xbox Marketplace, why wouldn't Windows 7?
I love tight integration and the ability to share with ease. I find Android takes a while at moment to do simple things, like search the market for that one great app, or have a music player that is feature packed and has the ability to share with desktop speakers.
I am waiting for gingerbread, then i will make my decision...unless it has a MAJOR UI rework, some serious gaming capabilities, new media player ecc. I'm switching to WP7...
very sad to see snapdragon wp7 devices running cool ui and games with advanced graphics while our nexus can't because of generic drivers and fragmentation of hardware platforms in the Android panorama...it's like consoles vs pc's
consoles: you do what sony or nintendo or MS decide you can do, but code is fully optimized and developed for that platform, meaning better performance, no waste of power
pc: you can do what you want but code isn't optimized because of the infinite hardware configurations, so you need more power to run same games.
Completely agree with you. I am against Apple's policy for the iPhone, but WP7 is in between Android and iOS. It hits the sweet spot IMO.
If you want to talk about PC OS's though, I have OSX running on my Windows Gaming PC, so it is technically more open then to just their systems. That why I like it too.
Looks nice, but no copy and paste? Until they get that sorted, I'm ooooot!
Glad you like XBox integration x986123 and are switching to a better OS for your needs.
I will stay with Android and Google's developer baby
In my opinion Google has shown that are willing to give their users more value with free toy's that really help out in everyday life (Google Voice, Google Maps Navigation, Tethering etc) that other giants like Microsoft and Apple just don't seem to care about. This lets me know that Google really cares about bringing value to their customers rather than just selling them a phone and wanting to make more money and so I can trust Google to continue to do this in the future much more than I could with Microsoft.
Also it seems from your 1st post that your main argument for switching is xBox integration wheareas I could care less about that... I don't have an xBox

Yep, and the market is terrible. Allowing developers to put permissions on their apps that make no sense whatsoever, and change them in updates.
I want a phonr I don't have to load up with apps, and an os that doesn't let everything run as a service. I'm about to factory reset again because my phone cannot sit idle for 6 hours without dying from a full charge, and I've pretty much uninstalled all my apps, lol.

Why bother asking rhetorical questions?
Google is your friend. We aren't here to hold your hand, sweetie.
Why get an iOS device for gamecenter if you don't have a mac? Etc. It's just a dumb, rhetorical question, especially coming from an android user, who can do nothing but wish this platform had decent games, neverming anything comparable to gamecenter or xbl.
WP7 games go not require an xbox. Xbox integration is perk, not a requirement. Ciao!

Maybe the second generation, but really the wp7 phones that are coming are unfinished. It is missing so many features.
I believe they shouldn't release wp7 yet, but I can see the want to make money while they finish developing. But releasing it unfinished will prob put a bad taste in peoples mouth's and turn out bad for what could be a decent platform

Yeah your right... free text messaging, voicemail transciption, and having an all in one number for all of your phones in case of an emergency sounds like useless features.

I'm mentioning it because for anyone who has actually used Bing's voice guided navigation like I have, it really pales in comparison to Google's more polished product:
- Doesn't work when screen is turned off to save battery / less heat like Google Maps Navigation does
- Doesn't turn off music when saying directions so you can't hear the directions over your music like Google Maps Navigation does
- Doesn't give you alternative route options to avoid traffic like Google Maps Navigation does
- Doesn't give a 3d point of view like Google Maps Navigation does
Well,
should I switch from my beloved Nexus that provides me with great features neither mom's iPhone nor my former WM6.5 phone had for an OS made by Microsoft?
That would ruin my statistics (no Win PC in my household)
So - of course I will never switch to Windows Phone whatever
(I do not like the "homescreen" of win phone 7 either and as mentioned above - no clipboard? wtf? who would release something like that?)
After getting used to the ability to fully customize our phones, I don't think I could make the switch to wp7. Just the lack of homescreen customization is enough for me to reconsider. Unless they allow for different launchers, it will not do.

You mean the missing copy and paste in Android? It is a shame that Google has been unable to fix that even in 2.2.1.
How anybody can create a mobile OS in 2010 without copy and paste is beyond me, especially if they just have to copy Apple's copy and paste which works really well.

Who is switching over to Windows Phone 7 if Gingerbread is not what it is hyped up to be. (No new UI, broken features, market not fixed up... ect.)
I know I probably am, if Google doesn't fix it up.

Could not have said it better myself. Android has hundreds of features but only half really work well. Until that gets fixed, less is more ... and I rather have 50 features that work well and work all the time than hundreds that don't work at all.
man this dude is full of hate toward android and mind you hes prolly still running touchwiz on that vibrant
I hope that we get a w7 port for our n1's so we can all try it out at least or even better, dual boot! I doubt I will switch though, new market to develop and populate and prolly a smaller pool of dev's for customization as well...
Lets hope Google gets their act together and makes Gingerbread a worthy competitor for Microsoft. These broken features and (5 year old) designers need to step up their game.
I left Apple for Android because it was more open, but now having used Android for almost a year, I find it's so open that it is unoptimized for super devices and low end. We have a bare looking OS with almost no animations and unused features. WP7 is the midway point, it is closed, but has a greater phone choice than Apple, while Microsoft is know for being slightly more open than Apple.
No way
I would never leave Android for an unproven OS, plus the tiles thing is so unproductive.

Hey guys,
Recently there's been talks about piracy on Android and how developers seem to shy away from it and produce games for iOS. That's actually the reason why developers of Infinite Blade refuses to port the game to Android. I've recently gotten the chance to speak with the creative director Matt Small of Vector Unit (Riptide GP). In this interview he talks about piracy and how its equal on both sides of the os. You guys really think its that bad? In truth when GTA 3 came out today someone already posted the apk on this forums mere hours it showed up in the market.
Anyway check it out:

lol infinity blade? sorry didn't hear you I was too busy playing blood and glory because GLU aren't picky developers.
I've may have downloaded a few apps with my *special* discount, I try to help developers out when I can. Especially if they're small and offering a good app, I'd feel too guilty otherwise. But if I'm short on cash one week and you have an app like adobe kuler going for 10 dollars...
I mean c'mon its 10 dollars for an app that selects colors. I guess if you have an indecisive wife who can't make her mind up about which blouse to wear it pays off eventually... but for the rest of us it's robbery.
Also it's always nice to try an app or game before you buy it, some don't always offer lite versions. If I bought each of the media players I went through before finding dice player, I'd have to take out a couple of mortgages.
The only time I may have downloaded an apk was for gameloft. Of course I purchased the game, but their lack of support for android is astounding. It's like they don't want it to be sold. For example, many of their games can easily run by on our Transformer, but instead they make it only available to the xoom or galaxy tab, and no they don't have any exclusive deals with those companies.
Glu is a different story. I appreciate their work in putting high quality games out but the pay to play feature is getting old quick. I'd rather pay 10 bucks for infinity blade than pay a buck here and there and end up spending more than its worth without noticing.
From things my fiancee has told me about people and their iPods, if piracy was a big concern, I would not touch iOS with a twenty thousand dollar anti-piracy framework let along develop for it lol. Can't say that I hear much about it on Android, although I'm sure there is just as much.
In Android, IMHO there is a fair model available and going much past the what was intended, means either you are doing it wrong or you're stupid. People can make piracy (and cheating) harder than the average people. But then you're just going to have the really smart ones pull it off, and probably make more in the long run than the worthless game. The best you can do is lose users, money, and time, by putting to much into anti-piracy efforts, versus making a better and more affordable game. 1 x $6 game that gets pirated more than it sold, versus 4 x $1 games that probably gets pirated as often as it's sold is still a gain.
If it does more than play video and accept input, you can't make a pirate (or cheat) proof game. No way mathematically in my honest opinion.

Epic Games have a deal with Apple to keep the game exclusive to iOS. Whatever they give as a reason not to go to Android is PR bull****.
To any Devs think about piracy on Android chew on this, Android market just hit 10 billion downloads, 25% of those were game downloads. Pardon my math but that's a **** LOAD of downloads. You'd think Epic Games weren't EPIC STUPID enough to port their game to Android.

The problem with android is, how easy it is to download and install pirated apps..
On iOS you have to jailbreak first, when you use Android you check off a little box and voila - instant access to all the apps that you can find using, ironically, Google..
Let's say for instance you had to root an Android phone, and not using click-to-root methods, but actually "working" a bit for it..
How many of the people who now just share apps, would consider it too much of a hassle/risk ? (chance of bricking, and all that )

Meh. Piracy on Android is more hassle than it's worth. I can understand it for $100 PC games, where the pirates can actually deliver a superior product to the retail outlet (DRM infestations, etc), but for $1-5 apps on the Android/iOS market? Nah.

Once jailbroken though, you can install an app-store like app that downloads every app for free... Making the effort to jailbreak, and then install this app makes using pirated apps even easier than searching and downloading an apk for Android.
There's no doubt piracy is a factor on every OS... and someone is going to make it easy for an average user..... Although, Android does tend to have more technically inclined users than IOS.
Piracy on Android? There will always be piracy regardless of whatever platform its on.
Xbox 360: People mod their consoles to play pirated games.
PS3: Same thing
PC: same thing with piracy
iOS devices: Jailbreak and install unauthorized apps/games from third-party "app stores"
Android: this will be the same thing. It's nothing new...
If anything, its the way the game developers market their game. For example,
Let's take a look at Gameloft taking advantage of "device availability." Devices such as the Transformer can play the game... but somehow Galaxy Tab 10.1 can't!? so this forces the customer to find a apk for it and download the apk and finds out that its working!
Small little things like that irritate the customers. Kinda the same thing with GTA III and its device launch. But they actually have a legitimate reason because it doesn't run on the device.
I think the guy who download a pirated apk has no money to buy the real app, or has no the way to buy it, even, having the money and the willing to buy the app.
Here, in Argentina, there is no other way to buy an Android app on Market if you don't have an international credit card. A lot of people gets the money in cash, no banks involved, so, to get the credit card you need to work in a corporation o have a very good job (I'm talking about Argentina).
-
Ep2008 is right, 15 minutes is not enough for test some apps, even, some apps has misleading descriptions. Sometimes the app does not works well on your device (in iOS you can buy it and you know that it will works well).
Buy an app is a risk if the developer is "jhon Doe" (or Gameloft...) but, if you are buying from, for example, Rockstar, you know that you are buying something that worth you money.
Developers who complains about Android are the ones who don't have a good reputation.
As a small developer:
1) I mostly make ad supported games right now (Google allows selling only from 20 countries, mine not included) so I'm happy if someone copies it of course.
2) If someone blocks ads I don't much care as long as he is happy and recommends my games to others,
3) From what I read from other (small) developers piracy is not that high of an issue (some of them were counting the pirated copies and it was like 1% or sth like that).
For larger companies and more pricier games the percentage is probably much higher, I don't know. But mostly those who pirate a game wouldn't buy it anyway. And they can recommend it to those who buy.
Personally I also prefer ad supported but free games (like Aporkalypse, great fun, ads not problematic) - but some people hate them, I know.

Sure I would still prefer Android as my main platform, but I would LOVE to try this out on my GS3! I've always been an OS geek, and love the feel of exploring a new, beautiful, and innovative UI, as well as learning how the underlying platform works and differs from similar setups. It's why I've been playing around with Linux distros and customizing and tweaking them, Solaris, BSD, etc long before Android, despite the fact that I'm no developer. I would LOVE to be able to play around with different OS'es on my GS3, rather than just different Android roms, and Sailfish is one of the most interesting to me. I'll probably end up using Ubuntu more than anything if we get it, but Sailfish is something new and different and it looks really fun. :fingers-crossed:
Can someone link the story of a Jolla dev saying it can be ported easily by the community? If so, let's get this project started, and find out what needs to be done to make this happen, I'm tired of all these different OS'es coming only to the GNex!
With the re-merge of Android and Linux, and addition of the ARM drivers to the mainline, these types of alternative OS'es shouldn't be terribly difficult to port, and between Alien Dalvik and Google writing all their apps in HTML5 for ChromeOS, we should be able to get the basics of what we need from Android running on here, we just need to get the OS running!!

You realize that Sailfish is also technically Linux, too, right? And you realize that Ubuntu OS won't have Google Now, Gapps, or the Play Store either, right? So why are you naysaying Sailfish but optimistic about Ubuntu? You, sir, make no sense.
Why Sailfish might be a "GOOD" idea too...
The simple fact is I just bought a NOTE 2. First Samsung Device and aside from the S-pen, making a different way of interaction.
We have this to consider. As i have been readng how to 'setup' my NOTE 2 as it's on order and pending... I have come across
threads about how GOOGLE is trying to get 'us' the end users off of SD cards. Other Crap like that... Google has power now,
and they are acting so far like EVERY other US company that gets it. M$, Apple...
It's nice to 'have' something else to look at that is OPEN and someone noted something that is a concern to me. Customizable
look, and features. I myself don't like CRAP on my desktop or my HOME SCREENS... I just don't. When I run Linux, I go with no
icons on my desktop.
So this is so far from what I've seen a bit of a turn off but in the future because the system has to start somewhere... if it's really
open, one would hope such features could be expected. Either 3rd party or by the main OS makers.
There have been enough complaints here by users about devices without SD CARD access. About how Google is trying to cut
this off and how ni Samsung devices Samsung had to 'hack' around it to allow SD card access to apps that were used to getting
it.
I for one for simplicity don't want a stupid OS where all my personal CRAP PHOTOS etc are STUCK in the phone. Just for a simple
reason like that.
Another reason we should all hope for MORE OS's to be released is because lets let the DEVICE makers take something back!
Eventually it only takes one to WISE up... loosing money competing OS to OS or by trying to follow up when they have a good device but for example the ANDROID leader is SAMSUNG. I like that LG picked up WebOS SO they're gonna make Smart TV with it but all it takes is a little pebble to start the Landslide.
THese OEM's we want them to wise up and say... WAIT! There's stuff out there... we make the DEVICE and let them decide what they want on it. Isn't waht we all dream of? Cause then stupid crap like Samsungs Flash counter will be something made obsolete by trend.
Makes will possibly start trying to just concentrate on GOOD HARDWARE just like computers, and then maybe some company will really wise up and the only thing they'll contribute will be a device coming with some kind of AWsome MULTI-BOOT loader system ... Or at least if the devices are open someone can make one... haha.
Also about the Ubunty on mobiles thing... well, it's an interesting idea but seems like they are still not planning to get anywhere with it for a whole year? I wonder why...
Sailfish is using the WHOLE Linux... it's the same thing, but with a UI set for imbedded and small devices. SO all that needs to be done in the future is a step up to a whole desktop for bigger screen devices or if you dock your device to a large screen... so in other words...
Sailfish could have the same potential as Ubuntu...
I have personally never used Ubuntu and hope that with the option of sailfish what we may see is other Linux projects joining the trend. I mean really... it's all OPEN source. What actually bugs me the most as an end users is also the same problem that I see with some Linux projects.
Everyone reinventing the WHEEL trying to make the best this and taht and this is the real reason in some instances it's taking longer to do something that is lying around and could be modified and it's true, I don't speak with any experience in coding or programming but I think some who do know what is said is a bit true in some instances just like in some a total rewrite may be in order.
but if it's OPEN, then the parts are there.
So either way... it'll be good to see SAILFISH and other things. I'm sorry, but the whole TIZEN thing doesn't appeal to me pesonally. If it had more underlying structure other than the HTML 5, cause frankly, I am not real happy about every little thing on my system always
being connected to the internet in some way... though yes, I realize HTML 5 is just a way to create graphics but, remember these are companies we're dealing with here and they always have their own agenda.
Anyway... I'd like to see Sailfish vs Windoz OS, cause Micro$haft has not changed their ways and I don't expect to see them do any different than they have and their system will be similarly locked in ways but differently or in differently places as much as Apple's.
Android is open now but Google is acting weird and some competition and innovation can keep it open longer...
So, I'd love to see Salifsish fly or is that Swim... and of course they need to start somewhere and 90% of they users will be people who just want it to 'work' and that's where they need to go first. Us power users, etc in this forum, we're like the 10% or less now. Before
we were the people buying smartphones but when smartphones are now what the average user is getting their hands on?
Forget it... you bettre make something that they goo OOOH perty, and it's simple. OR you will be lost in the market. I also recall that
Sailfish is coming out here in the Asian market if I read taht right a couple month ago. I am an expat living in CHINA and believe me.
They want it simple and pretty, anything else... and it will fail. But once it hits this market, where a lot of stuff for Android is being made now
if it is accepted... then it will start having things made for it and if it can run Android apps, it's a true plus...
Depending on what hardware it comes out on, if it's able to use the simple apps I use in Android, it may be my next device to replace my daily users...
Obviously the NOTE 2 is going to be my KIND device and isn't exactly for 'daily' use in the way that I use my devices.
Still, the more the merrier and frankly, a lot of OEM's will want to get off of being branded as ANDROID device makers or whatever if they want to sell.
Also it's all good that ANDY is merging back with main kernel, but so far... there is still NO REAL work you can do with Android despite this yet. I do mean, such as prepare a very good OFFICE DOCUMENT, Power Point presentation and so on that you would on a computer. Though I hear the Open Office to Android project is going... so one can but wait and hope.
I would love to try this out on my LG optimus 2x SU660!

I think this is pretty damn awesome. The hands on videos on YouTube look great, especially the ambiance thing.
Honestly, the phone looks good too but i would rather keep the beast hardware in my S3 and maybe get an S4, but having this OS on it would be awesome.

To be fair it may make their OS a little bit more consistent/polished/professional, instead of integrated apps from here and there. But I just dont use any MS products anymore (aside from office programs) and so it wouldnt be of any benefit to me.
Cyanogen Inc. can do as they please. As long as they don't lock me down to anything.
This isn't terrible news. The Microsoft mobile suite is actually really nice. I loved my Windows Phone, the only reason I got rid of it was lack of dev support for apps that I needed.
