Nexus 4 Creaking - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do anyone have creaking in the Nexus 4 if do is it worth a replacement

Are you talking about cracking with the speaker or with the glass.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2

I have some creaking in two spots on the sides. One is located above the volume rockers (which is pretty loose) and the other is on the same side but towards the bottom of the phone. If everything else is working perfectly on your phone, I don't think it's worth an RMA. Slap on a bumper and you'll never notice the creaking. Plus, it doesn't hamper any functionality on the phone so it's a minor issue imo.

i have noticed mine creaking as well. mine is on the back where the lg logo is, on the side where the power button is by. if i put any pressure back there it creaks. i was worried it might be lose but i figured they might all do that. lol

i had the annoying creaking on my phone too. i tried fixing it by opening the back panel and checking it but there is nothing that i could do to make it stop so i just slapped a bumper on it and called it done.

My phone creaks mercilessly at the bottom where the USB port is, on either side, but even more noticeably on the right side. Like others have said, the bumper will "fix" the issue, but it's not really an ideal solution IMO. I've wondered if tightening the screws at the bottom would help/fix the issue but I don't have a T4 screwdriver :-/

It with the glass on top left but I was worried and didn't want to be the only one with this problem but google play rep said i have one year for exchange and I brought squaretrade warranty for drops and spills

I've had 3 of these and they all do it eventually.

Does it become worst over time

i gave mine back because of that and still waiting for replacement :S

Also is there a noise inside the back of the nexus when tap the back with your finger like a ding sound

Same here

Is there a solution of that creaky noise at the bottom near the USB-Port? Btw. where does it come from this creaky noise? Hollow space?

I figure it's not worth an RMA. The replacement may be the same. Anytime I apply some pressure I hear some "sticky / glue" sound. It's just not worth RMA'ing if my device is working as it should.

I agree with you as well. Its not worth the RMA. I'm sure they all will do it over time.

Mine is creaking, right above the volume rocker, have a poetic bumper on, still notice it, and it's annoying but not worth an rma.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2

Mine has a slightly different issue. If I press on the back glass in roughly the middle of the phone (maybe below/left of center, slightly), the glass deforms a bit (you can see it in the reflection) and the phone makes a light "pop" sound.
I think it's the edge of the bezel deforming slightly on the left side. I can see it move slightly (the black plastic side comes out a fraction of a fraction of a centimeter from the silver part).

have the same problem. I will replace it if the problem becomes worse. but as of now it's only creaking. I have speaker problems and will replace it soon.

Plastic Slivers from the Screen Bezel?

Just thought of this tonight. I keep getting these weird slivers that hurt like a ***** in the ends of my fingers, kind of like a metel sliver. I've been getting them on and off for about 2 months. I think they must be coming from the plastic bezel around the screen; what do you think?
Also, my bezel is cracked at the power button and vol. button, and is splitting off along the top, above the speaker.
Anyone else notice this?
nope mines fine no troubles been a champ
Oh, and I've had mine since launch. I just got another one in my other finger... and unless it came from my macbook pro...

That sounds unlikely, the plastic on this phone doesn't really "splinter", it kind of cracks and bends.
I've used mine without case or screen protector for months with no issues.
Can you post a pic maybe yours has some strange flaw?

Omg major help.. build quality of my nexus 7.. screen glass is loose?

Hi I got my nexus 7 on Tuesday and yesterday I felt like there were some loose parts, but I just ignored it. Played around it more today and felt funny like the glass is coming off.. and just now I realized the glass is indeed loose.. from the casing.. I feel like I can literally take off the glass if I wanted to...
Does anyone else have this problem? What should I do... it doesn't affect the screen in any such way though. Everything looks fine on screen.
Except that when I play with it the glass/screen can be pushed and I can hear a crack sound like the glass is being clipped on to the casing..
OK like my left part of screen I push down and then pops back up ,making a clip sound.....
What do I do?

Sorry just found some posts on same problem.. but what's the solution? Refund? Replacement?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
It sounds as if you have the same problem as many others. I presume the solution would be to go RMA it as others are doing. Or, if you're the brave type, you can attempt to fix it yourself by tightening a few screws inside, instructions are somewhere here.

I would get a replacement. I get minor screen separation but only like a sliver over the Grey casing but nothing major.

The left side of my glass is loose too, not a lot. How long do we have to RMA ?
Crash

CREAKING/CLICKING SOUNDS on the LOWER LEFT CORNER

So i was doing a final check before i go ahead and unlock bootloader and start flashing since unlocking voids your warranty with google.
upon inspections, i found out that when i PUSH on the lower left corner on the phone, it creaks PRETTY loudly, it almost sounded like im clicking on my mouse....
Anyone else got this!??!?!
look at the frame of your phone. mine wasn't flush where the chrome and rubber frames met, and had to rma it
no, everything look uniform. Same color and all. it just clicks when i push out.
Also not when i plug in my charger and wiggle it a bit. it makes some noise....i know its not my charging cord cuz i use like 3 different ones.
Thanks,
You can relock the bootloader that's a non issue. I have the creaking clicking sound too but on the left side above the volume rocker. I was going to exchange it but went to the T-Mobile store and the sales reps N4 and the display unit do the same thing. No unevenness in the bezel to case on any of them either. I decided there are worse problems in the world.

i dont have this issue, phone really feel solid!
Have the same thing on the left side of the USB port looks flush but I can push it in a little and it makes a noise doesn't seem to be doing any hard and it doesn't look off so I'm fine with it

I have the same creaking in the bottom left corner, right below the speaker. It creaks if I squeeze the two ends of the glass, or if I squeeze the bezel in that area. I'm slightly nervous that this may contribute to the back glass cracking, but I think that's probably being overly paranoid. I actually ordered a torx T5 screwdriver to see if loosening and tightening the screw in that area makes a difference. I'll post back here once I get the screwdriver and try it out.

Please do. I'm a sufferer as well and just thought a few minutes ago if tightening the screws could help. Because if that's all it is, then... BALLIN'.
But seriously, even if it doesn't help, I think I'll be able to live with it. I mean I don't normally squeeze the bottom of the phone like that.
Patently waiting for a reply
I should have the screwdriver by Wednesday, according to USPS. I will update everyone once I get it.

I have tried the Torx screwdriver for this issue. It doesn't do anything. My first Nexus was really bad with this problem, picking it up would cause a creak...you could even push the bezel at the bottom left corner and it would feel "mushy", as there was some slight give. I got an RMA and the replacement unit arrived yesterday. Same issue, but not as bad as the first one...there's no give on the bezel, but squeezing that left corner can produce a creak. Looking at the teardown on iFixit, I don't see what would cause this other than glue from the back or pressure on the speaker unit.
oh damn, that issue is worst than mines. Good luck on it bro
mines is just pushing in on the corner...i can pretty much live with it since i have my bumper on 24/7 but im thinking about getting a rma.
what do you guys think? rma or no?

If that's the only issue, and it's not that bad, I wouldn't rma it. The chances of getting one with something else wrong make it not worth it in my view.

yea, besides the corner issue, i have the buzzing from the earpiece as well..but other than that. everything else is perfect.
thanks
The creaking in the lower left of my N4 seems to have gotten worse. It's not a huge deal, especially since I normally keep my N4 in a TPU case, but it is annoying. Anyone else notice the same thing? I'm tempted to put a very small amount of crazy glue near where the glass and plastic meet in that corner (ever since a tiny amount of crazy glue completely fixed the screen lift problem with my N7, it's been on my mind for various fixes).
I have the same thing on the upper left corner just above the volume button. Again this is on the plastic surround. If I hold in landscape for example the area my left thumb goes lands right there and it creaks hell. However it won't do it again unless I press slightly on the glass in the same area and it clicks.
These all sound like clips or something not clicking into place.
My volume rocker was loose from day one, now the power button is getting loose the more I use it.
Poor BQ IMO.
I need to stay out of these forums you guys are making me paranoid looking for things I shouldn't. like squeezing my phone and doing all sorts of strange things lmao

Haha. Don't go too crazy. The creaking, at least in my case, is a minor annoyance. It's not a big deal. I've learned a long time ago that there's no such thing as a perfect phone.

Loose bumper?

I have the official nexus 4 bumper case on and I have this issue where periodically(a handful of times a day), I'll pull my phone out of my pocket and the bottom right corner of my phone has slipped out, while all others remain inside. Has anyone else been having this issue? I don't think I'll send for a replacement, mostly because it isn't a huge deal, but it is a little irksome nonetheless.

Take out the bumper, squeeze the edges together, and put the phone back in. It will be a more snug fit.

I'll have to try that; it appears to happen to happen every time I take it off in an attempt to get it seated properly

Slight creaking?

Anyone notice a slight creaking throughout the phone. I've noticed it when I press the phone to my ear during calls. Its not bad, but its somewhat noticeable. Just wondering if anyone else has this too. I am extremely OCD when it comes to phones. So it just might be me lol.
My case creaks, but not my phone. You definitely made me paranoid enough to check though!
No creaks
I've noticed it ever since I dropped my phone. Only when I flex it diagonal though. Not when I put it up to my ear

Guys, some PSA: while checking the phone for any creaking by bending/flexing it, be careful not to crack the screen
No creaking here. At all. And I'm not going to flex it in any direction just to see if it creaks.
"Hey lets see if I can make it creak by twisting it and putting a load on the phones frame........."
Sheesh. If it isn't broke or creaking, forcing the device's frame to it's stress limitations can permanently make it do exactly what you hope it isn't doing. And that goes for any piece of engineered equipment in existence.

As I stated above, mine only creaked at the top, when you put it to your ear.
Nope, nothing there for me either.
Mine creaks a lot, and when I tap on the top of the screen, it sound like something is loose or shaking. Help?
ya same here, just when a bit of pressure is put near the top of the housing
If I twist it lightly, it sounds like a bag of popcorn popping.
I miss my S2, it was a solid phone.

Mine creaks mostly when I am trying to shove a slightly oversize battery in the back.
