[Q] 4.2.1_1.2 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Maybe someone who already had a look at the changelog of 4.2.1_1.2 aka JOP40G and understand it can tell me and others what are the main changes in this release?

Looks like Bluetooth and NFC to me.

This.

Yep, Those are the only ones I've read about...

On a german website there were talking about improving the battery life especially in slepp mode. But can't find the article right now.
EDIT: okay found the website again: http://www.giga.de/apps/android-os/news/android-4-2-1_r1-2-im-quellcode-aufgetaucht/
they say in sleep mode CPU1 und CPU3 will be deactivated to save 60mA...
they also link to https://gist.github.com/4694153 with the changes, but probably most of us don't know what that all means ^^

That was the site I read too,so I thought I'd ask some experts what they think about it
But 60mA seems a bit much to me and I thought they are disabled anyway...

I don't believe that is quite correct.
In the commit the core shutdown is for when the phone is off and charging. I believe doing this will make the phone charge a little faster. https://android.googlesource.com/device/lge/mako/+/android-4.2.1_r1.2
I'll keep looking for more info.

Oh yes, I reread the article and in fact they say it's for a turned off device while charging, not in sleep mode.

Sadly no WiFi, volume, or data issues related fix.

I find it hard to believe that there would be so many Bluetooth and NFC fixes for the next release, but no fixes in any other area. I don't think this is telling the whole story.

Who says this is for the next release? I'm sure these fixes, or perhaps improved versions will be in the next release. They know we use their code. Perhaps they want people to test and report bugs while they work on 4.2.2.

Anyone using the new OTA notice any significant difference in the camera?
I know there was a whole new APK and libs for it, so it should be different. I just want to know without flashing
Devs are currently going through the new RUU that was just released a few hours ago . They are still sorting through the changes in the Development section . Information at this time is still limited but bare with them . Im sure they will find good stuff in them if there is anything good put into it . Now if they do something about the charging bug / battery issue *Ducks behind couch to avoid incoming objects*
What charging bug and battery issue are u talking abt?

The charging bug is when you charge your phone over night and unplug it drops to 95% or 90% right off the bat . Or the fact the phone doesnt charge extended batteries very well . NOW back on track LOL the OTA .

I just loaded this up to test the kernel power draw and man is it low. I'm talking about almost half of CM6 with Snap 7.5 which was already by far the best. I don't know if I'm reading the log wrong but it's only drawing 30 mA @ idle - Snap 7.5 is low 50's. This ROM/Kernel should have crazy battery life.
Maybe I'm a little tired but after taking 15-20 low light pics something seems much improved. Focusing is fast, and the flash doesn't blow out the picture or look like an 80s polaroid anymore.
Again, this could just be in my mind, I'll try to compare to some old pics and post the conclusion.
@creyc: I think you are right. The "nuclear blast" flash in low light seems under control. Also focused very quickly.
@Award Tour: How do you measure the drain?

GPS fix, and the cause of many issues

I seen a few threads on GPS fixes. I read them and still see some people having issues after applying fixes. I found out something interesting so it's my turn to post a fix for the GPS issue.
Here is what this will fix:
taking a long time to get a fix.
Not being able to keep a fix.
Not accurate data.
GPS consuming more battery then it should.
I can tell every one who is having trouble still right off the bat that they have their TB's overclocked.
I found out something interesting while trying to get from point a to point b a few days ago. All of a sudden I was having all sorts of issue that I never had before. After futzing around to try and find a solution I focused on the only thing different then usual.
I had my TB overclocked to 1.5GHZ when I normally don't go much higher then 1.2GHZ. mostly not to drain the battery.
My unit took several minutes to get a fix, and when it did, if I started moving again,(driving down the road) it completely lost the fix, or it was sporadic at best.
I lowered the clock speed to 1.2ghz. Killed all apps for a fresh start. Started navigate again, and I got a fix in less then 10 seconds. And it held a fix.
I put the clock speed back to 1.5ghz and I lost the fix again. Problems were occurring again.
I was able to get a good fix at 1.3ghz, but it took a tad longer, still under a minute to get a fix, but at 1.2 it works flawlessly.
Apparently the chipsets used for GPS don't like too high of a frequency above normal.
If anyone is having an issue with GPS, lower your cpu to 1.2ghz or lower. Kill all apps. then restart your GPS software.
Hope this helps any one having issues out!
Great theory, and may be true to an extent. I don't oc and today I could not get a lock to save my life. And I was in wide open lake country where a lock should have been instant.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Yea I dont OC at all and Still even with a couple of patches Ive tried, it still dont work right.
My gps has never worked correctly since I got the phone. So interesting theory, but purely circumstantial and unscientific testing. The issue comes about from XTRA code being incomplete in the framework.jar. This is needed for fast locks. Secondly, the radio needs updating. Both are present in a yet unreleased TB ota.
Why you see wildly different results is that eventually, even a standalone gps locks. Fiddling with settings and so forth, you eventually get a lock. Once you have lock and keep it 'warm' with somewhat regular use, you get the illusion of your gps being fixed.

Its just a test of the camera so no file saving. What it does prove (though kind of obvious) is that the battery limitation is a software thing rather than hardware.

Nice one, genius. How might this even be a hardware limitation ? Logical thinking would've rejected this supposition. Btw VilainTweaks includes a fix for this, so we already knew it was possible.

Well yes it is the logical conclusion and also obvious to me but in the interest of avoiding a potentially patronising statement that's why I said 'kind of obvious'
The only possiblility (though disproven by the mods available now) was that although still technically not hardware - if the camera's own firmware rejected operation at certain battery levels then no amount of OS tweeks would get round it.

yes, judging by these builds it seems like they are almost done and doing small stuff like making sure apps are working as they should and optimizing code and such. I remember when i had my hero they always sped up build rate before release (2.1).
Oh yeah, I see the EH04 & EH05 now, but how can that be? That would be tomorrow & the next day's builds... Has Samsung figured out how to bend time?

In development you have UAT QA which leads to this multiple builds drama. Everytime the QA tech kicks back the code the devs go back recompile the fix and they have to stamp it with a new build number.

[Bounty] $50 for a wifi calling echo fix

Straight up. I am currently using ZenDroid 2.1.1, but have encountered this problem on several roms and so have others. The person on the other side gets a horrible echo. I just moved to a house where my reception is horrible, and I need this to work properly. My wife and I both have vibrants.
The bottom line - be the first to deliver to me a non echoing, functional t-mobile wifi calling app for froyo, and I Paypal you $50. I prefer to have it work on zen droid, but if there is no other way, I will change to another froyo rom to have this work properly. I just have to confirm it has fixed my problems before payment, and $50 is yours. No BS.
Anyone up to the challenge?

Yeah I saw it, what I am looking for now is actually to get the app fixed , if someone has the time...
Everything he said makes sense, and I will have to try the volume thing to see how it works. I posted this before I saw what he said on the ZenDroid thread.
As far as the incentive, I think it is a good idea. I am totally not trying to be a smartass, when I say it would not be the first time something unfixable on this phone was fixed by some great minds on this forum. I'm trying to motivate someone to try and overcome a difficult, perhaps insurmountable obstacle.

NP, and, certainly not trying to push. I am not an EDT fanboy, but I have tried at least 8-10 2.3.4-2.3.5 ROMs, just about giving up, and saying Nexus Prime is prolly less than 2 months away. On a final whim I tried Asgard, and with this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239713
despite myself, I actually have working GPS that is equal to or better than any FroYo ROM I have used. I am on my 3rd replacement Vib. and the first 2 sucked wind as far as GPS went, so I KNOW bad GPS. I saw another poster (and I should have bookmarked the quote) say something to the effect that anything that could possibly be a GB bug he has managed to experience on his Vib. +1... The problem is that no 2 phones are the same, so YMMV, but I am now, albeit reluctantly, a believer that GB can have awesome GPS. Just my 4 cents.
I use my gps on a daily basis as a must for my business and im on miui revamped and have been for a couple months..these guys have got the gps goin on,its fast, accurate and i haven't driven off a cliff or into the ocean yet.
So if your sticking with froyo for that reason....your missing out.
Good luck with your wifi calling endeavour

Thanks nick. Is a form of wifi calling working on miui? Did not think it was, guess its the only thing keeping me off it now. Things changed for me moving to the new place, but after a few hiccups, the studio should be at 100% in about two weeks. Its always something, right?
I would have tried your rom earlier, but I just lack the time to do the switching around nowadays. Had to go back to froyo and stay for awhile.
