Hi!
I'am so happy with my Nexus 4, but today when i was outside i noticed many "squares" on the screen when i tilted it a bit.
Can somebody in here reproduce this by going outside and carefully tilt the device whit the screen of and on?
Is this normal or should i return the phone?

You should definitely return it. It's clearly defective.
.../facepalm
I see them when my screen is off. Don't worry about it, they've been on all of my phones before my N4 as well.

I have never seen this before on any phone.
That's why i'am asking
They're only visible when Mine's off and I wouldn't worry about it unless they show up when the screen is on...

i noticed it on my nexus 4 as well. but i only see it when im outside in the sunlight and my screen is off. i dont see it all the time but at times when i tilt the phone i do see it. i figured it was just the way the screen was. it was no biggie to me
I saw mine while using it out in the sun. They are also clearly visible when the screen is off. How many threads do we need about this?

Do you see them under heavy sunlight? This might be the case. Normally, they shouldn't be seen. However, if I look extremely closely on a specific background colour (which I don't remember now) I can barely see them.
Unbelievable. Another thread about this.

Sv: [Q] Can you see the screen matrix conductors??
I returned my phone yesterday and got a new nexus 4. Whiteout the conductors showing on the screen! I bought it in Sweden on netonnet and they told me that these conductors should not be showing so much on the screen. I mean I could actually take a picture on the conductors!

Anyone but me have this problem?
Haven't checked... and not going to do either.... as it's a non issue in normal usage (i'm seldom staring at a completely white screen just to see that the status bar area has aged the screen differently) and a "feature" of amoled technology
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
It's there on most colors! I took white cause it is easier to see on a photo but it is there all the time! I'm not retarded!
And the worst part is that the little part that is whiter is the only part that is really sharp like it used to be, while the rest of the screen never is really white and sharp but instead has an uneven yellowish color. And it is worse than I could capture on photo.
I love my phone im not trying to mock it.
I'm not even gonna check
Because if I do, I'll notice it every single time I use the phone, and it'll annoy me to death.
If you don't see it you don't have it. It's there all the time. Of course it's only in games or reading stuff that is full screen. But anything except the black status bar!
Ditto problem.

@marber45 I've observed the same thing a few weeks ago. I think already many SGS2's displays are suffering of this
I have this problem

I noticed it just days before you made the post, interesting timing.
Hi All,
came across this thread when looking for a solution for SGS1.
it seems that Burn in is indeed a problem for AMOLED screens.
in my situation, I've found a burn cause by Waze (of course, any app that would leave the screen on would cause it).
sadly enough, my phone is only 6 months old and I use Waze ~30 min. a day - not much for a burn you think? wrong!
for now, I've set Waze to hide the point bar and the zoom control, but still many objects on the screen are static - including the notification bar.
does anyone has a good solution?
Same problem!
But in reality it is not a real problem..
AMOLED is still not ready for prime time, but at least Samsung is trying to improve on it with every iteration. Can't wait for 40"+ AMOLED HD TVs.
Before waranty goes off demand to change display..

Hey there, might be interesting to know on which built your phone is operating?
Mine was delivered in may w/ 2.3.3, since I'm on a 2.3.5 based rom, I got better colors / sharpness and less side effects (greenish tint)
Maybe Samsung changed the way how to control the display? (hardware drivers)
just my 2 cents..
Yes
Just changed the screen last month
Now its ok
Dunno if it will be burned again
Also dunno what caused it

Irrelevant. It's an AMOLED hardware-related thing, nothing to do with software. My screen has burn-in, your screen has/will, every screen does/will.
When somebody says their screen has none they just don't see it. Because really, all our phones one day or later will show it.
I don't use any apps that ever hide the status bar so even if I did have it, it wouldn't bother me.

Hi
My notification area is a bit darker than the rest of my screen. It's only visible when screen is white, and I can't identify any leftovers from any icons like the battery or Wifi icon.
My SGS2 is about ½ year old, and in daily use it's no problem at all, but I wonder how it will look when my SGS2 is 1 or 2 years old

I noticed a strange pattern of squares all over the screen..they are rather Invisible until you look at it under some light already certain angle. I tried my best to take a picture but it's hard to see if you're not looking from human eyes. Either way I don't know if this is part of the design or is it some type of weird defect. I attach some pictures check it out. Look near the light glare and you will see the little square patterns they are all over the screen I tried to capture it as well as I could.

I've had my Nexus 4 for about 3 months now, and I'm starting to have a serious issue with image persistence on the screen. As of recently it has gotten very bad, and when I browse Chrome for 5 minutes, and flick the tab away, revealing the brown-grey screen, I can see the URL bar along with the URL address burnt on to the screen. It seems to go away after a while, but actually if I turn the brightness up to maximum and look it is still there. Does anyone else suffer from this same problem?
I haven't yet but I'd say get Screen test set it to the white test setting set your phone to not turn off screen when charging an leave over night that might help clear the screen burn. I haven't had this issue on any of my androids.
Simply; yes. I think that's a bit more widespread issue than one could think.
What I have noticed is it eventually does clear. But it seems to be taking longer and longer to do so. Right now (it has been about 30 minutes) the URL bar and the address has gone, but there is still a white patch where they were. I've read about IPS-LCD image persistence, but most sites say it clears after about two minutes.
zero burn in here, ive have mine for about a month. how bright do you keep your screen?
Yea, for me it's just like 2 - 4 minutes and the burn is gone.
I have auto-brightness on most of the time, typically it ranges from the lowest setting, to about the middle setting. When I'm in the house I turn off auto-brightness. I've just checked again and it is still there, that's almost an hour now. I haven't been using it either, it's been in sleep, but I have been periodically checking it.

I've had it since Christmas.
Haven't got that on mine - if I were you I'd send it back under warranty and Google or LG should should send you a replacement if its a defect in the screen

Huh, I thought LCD screens could not be "burned in".
Interesting (and no, I haven't seen it on mine).
Yeah I don't see this problem, and I thought this was an issue with AMOLED screens and the like
One thing that annoying me on my nexus 4. You can see on the left of my screen, straight dark line from top to bottom. I haven't drop my nexus before. It appeared on dark colours especially grey colours. For your info its start to appeared when 10 minutes screen on after about 20 minutes screen off. Is it normal? Anyone here have the same problem?

I dont think that lcd screen has this issue. My galaxy nexus has screen burn in and it is very awful

This isn't screen burn in, it is called "Transient Image Persistence" and it is not permanent like the AMOLED burn in... this thing dissapears relatively fast but it's still annoying... I have the same problem.

The problem is though I have had it since the end of December. Would they still accept it? Like I said in the OP though it seems to be getting worse, before the image would at least go away. But now it seems to have retained it permanently.

By perfect do you mean it doesn't retain the image at all, or that it fades relatively quick? I wouldn't mind if it went after like a minute or two, but mine seems to never go away.

Yeah I mentioned that in the OP. The problem is though mine has still not faded. I basically have a permanent Chrome URL box at the top of my screen, with a sort of white mark around it. If I have used chrome recently it becomes fully visible at any brightness. But if I leave it for a few hours it is only fully visible at maximum brightness.

I'm on full stock, and not rooted. Like I said I have already looked at that online, but it is supposed to disappear after a few minutes. Mine is retained for hours, actually it hasn't went away since I've noticed it, so it's pretty much permanent.
Hi everyone, I have had my Nexus 4 for about a month now. When I was using it, I noticed a strange pattern on the screen. I looked into it and found out that it was the digitizer. After doing some research, I learned that seeing this was normal. Except, on my phone you can see the digitizer very clearly in sunlight even with the screen brightness all the way up. It also is visible when using the phone indoors with auto brightness. Is this normal? If not, does LG offer warranty for this issue?

Hello,
This is my first topic here, I have just bought a new S4, and the screen seems to have lines in it, when it is on a grey/dark screen, and is discolored on the bottom half.
Anyway, Please could you go into Settings > More > about device > software update. Now if you go in the dark, do you see discoloured patches on the bottom of the screen? (which are lighter than the rest). Please can you tell me which mode your screen is on, as then I can see if I can remove the problem by changing modes.
Also, It seems like when my screen is grey, there are lines all over the bottom half, that are slightly lighter than the rest of the screen.
Would you class this as a fault, as you can only see it in the dark, but I do use my phone in the dark a lot...
Do you think it is worth it to return it?
Also, if it is, do you think I should take it to the Samsung Service Center (I have full warranty, and Knox 0x0) or just return it to the seller
Thanks for any replies, I would be so greatful to anyone who helps
PS. it is not just in settings, it happens in any app that I use...
Well, first of all AMOLED technology isn't perfect and this is well known.
Most of users have a purple /pinkish tint on the bottom of the screen or top.
On mine aswell the bottom part of the screen is more pinkish or something like that, can be seem only on grey backgrounds bot i got used to it and doesn't bother me. Also i noticed when i keep brightness on very low level on white backgrounds like in play store i can see 1 or 2 slightly lighter horizontal lines.
To be honest doesn't bother me, all s4's i checked they all have some screen issues, because is AMOLED.
I have the same. That just something you have to live with.

I am quite disappointed - Does it also seem to have lines that look at bit like burn in, but can't be as the phone is brand new ,and i cant think of any time that i let burn in happen...

If they are visible even on high brightness then is a problem.
So if you can clearly see them on maximum brightness, then you can go and ask for a replacement

Bad news. Seems like these lines and discoluoration also happens on full brightness. Looks like I need a repair. I'll try and post some photos tomorrow...
Edit: I bought it on eBay. Should I open a case, or should I take it to a Samsung service Centre as there is one close to Me?
I have the same lines, mostly visible on gray backgrounds. I can really see it on the weatherbug load screen. The one my eye sees the most is about 25% up the screen from the bottom, but when I stare for a while I can see a lot more. From what I've read, this is normal.
I dont get a full equal black screen either. Its like light is trying to get through in the bottom half of screen. Its more noticeable on lower brightness.
Never noticed it before....

Every S4 has grey bands across the screen. The worst is the one about 25% up from bottom.

The new panels in the S4 are crap ( in my opinion)
Only advantage is 1080p, which for a phone is pointless (again, my opinion)

You are right I also had another s4 and the same thing. Probably if you go to the store and try the phones there all of them will have this. At first look with high brightness on it is not obvious but after looking carefully you will notice it.
