Hello people!
First of all, I have a HTC EVO 3D GSM, and the tests I tried below are done on it... I just posted here because I don't think the issue I am having is device-specific (happened on the Desire and Desire HD, too - somewhat). Actually, I know this issue isn't device-specific. I'm just trying to find out if anyone else has been experiencing this, at a moment in his life .

I know this post is very long, but please allow 5-10 minutes of your time to go through this.
Charger : original HTC charger (1A output).
Cables : two BlackBerry microUSB cables, one is 2 inches shorter than the other. The HTC one broke after two weeks of usage, these BlackBerry ones stand up for the fight even after 6 months of abusing.
Extension cord : HAMA. USB 2.0, maximum speed 480 Mbit/s (that's what it says on the box). "Additional shielding for a good reduction of electromagnetic interference" -> so it's not double shielded (in case that matters at all). It's gray (for what it's worth). 1.8 meters long.
Battery Monitor Widget (BMW) may not show power consumption accurate while deep sleep, but it works fine when the phone is used and, THANK GOD, when CHARGING. So, with that app, I monitored the input current...
So... here's my little personal test.
Battery was at ~81%, so the input current wasn't varying because of the battery level, but because of the (****ty) cable(s). Throughout the test, the battery level got up a bit, but I tried to keep it steady at ~81-82 at the beginning of each test.
CPU @ 192 MHz - 1.51 GHz, Interactive governor. No undervolting, so the table ranges from 800mV (192 MHz) to 1175mV (1.51 GHz). Nothing changes, anyway, even if I undervolt it -75mV, so the voltage has nothing to do with it (maybe during * tests, it could mean a difference of a few miliamps, but it's not a viable solution).
Charging tests # - Wi-Fi off, Data off, Screen on Auto, off until I wake it and check the current with BMW.
Charging #1 : just with the BlackBerry cable, no extension cord. 1 minute after plug in : +800mA. 2 minutes after that : +789mA. It went up to 82%, so I discharged it to 81% and carried on with the next test.
Charging #2 : BlackBerry cable + the HAMA extension cord. 1 minute after plug in : +489mA. 2 minutes after that : +485mA. Notice that the input current was almost sliced in half.
Charging tests * - Wi-Fi on (signal ~80%), Data off, Screen on lowest brightness. Playing Star Legends (basically, it's opened, I'm not touching anything, any graphics that are going on there are hardly intense, nothing GPU-hunry is going on, so it's just sitting there). Media volume = 1.
Charging *1 : just with the BlackBerry cable, no extension cord. 1 minute after plug in : +413mA. 2 minutes after that : +471mA.
I couldn't resist and entered a PvP, so intense graphics were somewhat there, also touch points and all that... The current input was around +312mA.
Charging *1 : BlackBerry cable + the HAMA extension cord. 1 minute after plug in : -11mA. Notice it's discharging, but at a slow rate. 2 minutes after that : +31mA. So it started to actually draw some current from the charger, so I let it that way for another 2 minutes, and it's got to -5mA again. So definetly no charging here .
Normally, without charging, the consumption would be of about -513mA... -622mA... Same conditions : Wi-Fi on (~80% signal), Media volume on 1, lowest screen brightness, player just sitting there (in Star Legends).
I did tests with Asphalt 6 (no Wi-Fi, no active Internet connection), too. Same consumption... Same sh*t... I was thinking the Internet connection is what kills the incoming current the most (it turns out it hardly is).
So... Has anyone ever experienced something similar?! I really need an extension cord, lol.

I was wondering if a more powerful charger would solve this, but after reading THIS, I think there are hardly any chances...
I had another HAMA extension cord before. White, with double shielding, same lenght (1.8 meters)... Same current readings... I brought that one back to the store to get my $7 back, and here I am, 1 week later, having another one, in hope that the previous one was broken and this one is not. Haha...
So it's not the cord itself (bad company, lol), but the fact that there just is another connection the current has to go through...?!
Your tests are meaningless. Your phone does not draw more than 650mA no matter what charger you use. But it's possible the phone draws less if the extension cable somehow interferes.

It draws 900 mA (no extension cable) when the battery is nearly empty. As the battery fills up, the input current lowers...

No, it does not, no matter what Battery Monitor Widget tells you.
How can you be sure it only draws 650mA?
I tried to charge my old Desire with a 600mA charger and it wasn't full even after 6 hours!!! That was 7 months ago...
i was wondering about this as i dont have the orignal charger it came with but i hear its at 0.7amps, while some have 1.0amps, this link states below that the galaxy note charger is faster at 1.0amp,

From my understanding, the Galaxy S 2 comes with a 0.7A charger (just like the Nexus S). If it comes with that, it means it only draws that much... Am I right?
All HTC's I've owned had a 1A charger. When I tried a 600mA charger I had at home, it barely charged the phone(s)...
So I'd say the input current limitation you've got doesn't affect HTC users (gladly). Still, there's no way to be sure about that, I can't find a similar video on YouTube, nor information regarding it...

It may be limited, okay, but then again, if my device draws +400mA from the charger if I use it when otherwise it would charge at ~+800, that means also your dual core big-screen device would do the same, too (but not at the same values). So if you take 650mA from the charger, I assume it would charge at maximum 250 if you use it (say browse the web etc.)
What does Battery Monitor Widget / CurrentWidget show you? Does it show actual current input or... it shows fake values?!

When I heard you guys here on the forums saying that the SGS2 charges at only 650mA... I asked a friend of mine (only know one to own this device, sadly). I just gave him a phonecall and asked if his charger was of .6A or 1. He said 1. Also, his phone charges fast, in like 2 hours (he claims), so I'd say it really draws 1A... Otherwise it can't charge in only 2 hours...
He couldn't tell me what ROM he's using. I figured there's gotta be something modified in the kernel or something, but he has no idea what ROM he's got rolleyes:).
Sorry for the double post, I was expecting it to be automatically merged (which normally happens).
Couldn't care less about charging a HTC. Don't own one but I bet there are heaps of people that do in that forum.

On the topic of charging my S2 with other cables, I've noticed strange anomalies when using Blackberry chargers and USB cables with my S2. My touchscreen gets unresponsive until I unplug the Blackberry charger.
Has anyone noticed this?

Yes. Not totally unresponsive but intermittent and sometimes to lockup until unplugged.

That never happened to my HTC. I've used BlackBerry and Nokia cables, cables won't do anything.
I have a wall charger, which is claimed to be of 1A. It barely gives me +13mA, lol. It came in a pack with a car charger, which also was claimed to have 1A, and that one DID provide 1A 3 months ago when I tried it on my Desire (never tried it since then -- sold it now). When using the wall charger, the touchscreen would become unresponsive after 5 seconds. Unresponsive = touches itself, so-to-say.

I just posted this topic in this forum too, because I figure there are more active S2 users than 3VO users... And I wanted to hear from you guys, how your phones behave in the same situations, too... Otherwise you imagine I wouldn't be here...

Just wondering, how long does it take you guys to fully charge (From anything below 20% to 100%) your nexus 7? Because I've seen a few posts about battery related problems, and personally I think mine chargers slower than it should.
Also, when I use a wire to extend the charger, it's as if it wont charge, for it to fully charge i'd have to leave it on for hours without use, Since they're aren't any plugs where I'd usually sit to use it, I need to move somewhere else cause the wire is quite small.
For example, I've had it on charge since 2PM today, when I plugged it in it was at 14% battery, now (4:20 PM) it's at 63%. This has been without use, just sitting there charging. Plugged in via the charger and wire that come with it, to an extension with 3 other plugs in it.
I received my N7 with about 40% charge and it seemed like it took a really long time on that first full charge. It has been better since. I have heard if you are not using the original cable for the N7, it will dramatically increase the time it takes to charge and it won't show the charging icon. The supplied cable is USB 3 and your other cables are most likely USB 2. You might want to buy a 6 foot or 2 meter USB 3 cable for convenience. Also, use the original 2 amp charger it came with.

Well, that explains why the extender doesn't work, but I haven't been using that to charge it since I noticed it slowed it down allot. I've only been using the stuff it comes with ever since I noticed that. Still VERY slow though, it's only just reached 96% since starting charging it at 2am. so it's taken 5 hours to get from 14% to 96%, pretty sure this isn't right.

My completely drained N7 (<1%) takes approximately 3 hours and 49 minutes to completely charge it (N7 powered off during charging).

OEM charger and OEM cable.
Like the title says, my dad just bought a Nexus 10 and when he was charging it from 20%, it's taken more than an hour to charge to 50%. With that logic, the battery is only charging 30% a day, which means it would take 3-4 days from 0%-100%, and that simply is unacceptable. Is it a defective unit? I know about the Pogo charger, but I'm sure he'd rather not spend $25 on it just to find out it doesn't work.
Any suggestions or ways to fix this?

All I know is that on mine takes about 9 hours to charge with the original charger. The first time I've charged it from 16% with my Galaxy SIII cable, and it took over 14 hours.
That does seem long. I have the pogo charger and it does charge faster.
Before you buy the pogo, are you using the chargers that came with the N10? When I charge my N10 from a laptop/PC, it does charge slowly. So make sure you're charging with the correct voltage/amps.

I'm having a similar issue since the OTA update to 4.4.2.
I'll try changing USB cables, but I'm not optimistic. I'm tempted to try a factory reset if a different cord doesn't work.

With Wifi on, NFC off, Location set to device only, bluetooth off, screen off, using my Pogo cable I get about 22% charge per hour so from 0% to 85% is 4 hours. Whilst on Pogo if I turn brightness to full and sound full then charge is held roughly flat. I moved to Pogo from the supplied cable as when watching stuff even when connected it was discharging, so now I'm never really out of power unless I stay unplugged a long time (about 6 hours unplugged max on low brightness)

This situation happens when the tablet isn't even on, so certain settings being enabled are not the issue.
And for more info, he is using the charger that came with the tablet, so we've just decided that we'll just send it back and get a new one because the battery is obviously defective.

Have you tried a different cable/charger? AN hour to charge from 20% to 50%? Sounds about right to me. I always switch mine off when charging, I can live without when it' off. :good:

I think clearly a human error in the word chosen explains it.
Instead of "...was charging it from 20%, it's taken more than an hour to charge to 50%. With that logic, the battery is only charging 30% a day, which means it would take 3-4 days from 0%-100%, and that simply is unacceptable."

Ahh, I see. Good call in getting it replaced. I hope you have a better experience.
here are a few points
1) the AC USB come with N10 charge up to 2A.
2) the mini USB limit to about 1A
3) if you use other mini charger, that 1A is even smaller.
4) N10 battery is HUGE comparing to all tablet out there. It will take a long time to charge
Solution: get the pogo charging cable that cost $25 (very expensive and can only use for charging), that will fully charge 2A to your tablet which should reduce the time to less than 4hrs given no other power hog apps running at the same time. It will charge slower if that power hog app running too. You can tell by how warm/hot your tablet gets when running such app.
btw, go look at the disassemble of the N10. That battle makeup most of the tablet. LOL

Agree, BUT once you get >85% the rate of charge intake drops. I can get to 85% in 3.9 hours using Pogo cable, but that last 85%-100% is slower. My battery meter sees one kink 85-90 another 90-95 and a slow crawl 95-100. As the battery is not taking up 2A >85%, all chargers, all cables, will largely take the same 85%-100% but the Pogo cable with 2A input will get you to 85% quicker.
I have moved to a dual 2.1A output PSU.

I know you revised the post but just looked at the link to the PSU you mentioned.
Note that $10 one is dual USB socket but only 2.4A total meaning if it is charging the N10 taking 2A it can only offer 0.4A to something else meaning that other thing can only be something like a phone. More importantly is the opposite if you connect a powerpack USB battery which takes say 1.5A or 2A then your Pogo cable cannot deliver its full capability.
The PSU I mentioned earlier is dual 2.1A both concurrently meaning it can charge the N10 and something else also power-hungry like charging a 2A input or 1.5A input USB battery.
There are PSUs out there which can do 4 lots of 2A concurrent, I didn't get one as they were getting chunky and personally prefer two PSUs, a 2x2A + 1A for total 5A which does my N10, my USB battery (2+2) and my phone (1) concurrently taking two power sockets.
Check the details of specifications of these devices, PSUs and batteries vary wildly.
Hello there developers,not sure if I'm posting on the right place but I have a really big problem. My new Pogo Cable arrived and I was so excited to use it,but my happiness didn't lasted fort too long. The problem is that the Tablet while charging with the Pogo cable is either charging slow ,or neither at all. This issue is available for both Lollipop and Kit-Kat,have upgraded an then downgraded with the hope that the issue will be solved. The original Micro -Usb cable works good but with the Pogo Cable in the Battery Monitor Widget it appears "Discharging" and "AC Plugged",and the charging rate is booring slow. Had the idea to measure the Voltage and the current Flow with a multimeter and got the surprise that while the voltage is 5.12 V the amperage is 0.12 A ,while the original charger pumps up to 2 Amps. Could this be the issue? Is there some electrical switch that should open and release all those 2 Amps or is this Cable a Hoax or something that is not fully functional? I've no idea if this is related but be aware that having your pogo plug connected while also having anything connected to the microUSB will stop charging. The charging icon (lightning bolt) will still appear but that I'd a false indicator. This limitation is due to the Android kernel and is present in all versions of Android.
I exclusively use a pogo plug to charge my Nexus 10 and it has always worked on all versions of Android including 5.0.2 which I'm on today. For me pogo plug charging has always been about 25 percent faster then USB charging.

well my warranty is expired so i Decided to "surgically" dissmantle my Nexus 10 in a heroic attempt to find the cause and I have made a breakthrough (or at least I tought so). I got another Pogo cable ,and this one was good,the voltage was exactly 5 Volts measured and the Amperage that I got was 2.21 Amps measured with a 6 Ohm fuse,all these values where from the original Samsung charger. All things good,but the Tablet is still not charging at all,the same Lightning animations and even after 3~4 hours still no charge at all,and this is Lame in my opinion. So after opening the tablet,I got the idea to short the 3 and 4 pogo pins together,and assumed that this will draw all the power that the battery needs to charge,the idea was working i got 20% more power draw than the usb cable BUT for only let's say Half of hour ,and then the same old story,battery was discharging but the lightning animation was on. This is not so good and my suppose is that the Power Management iC from the motherboard is some how not managing the Pogo charge at all :laugh: so my next idea is to wire the charging Pogo pins directly to the battery and hope for the best. I've got one of the original n10 from first day of issue. My battery is going to hell after being used and charged every day for the past couple years. It's been on/run everyday since Dec. 2012. I have always had a problem charging while using it. My display is always set at about 1/3 bright. When my battery drops to critical, I plug in the pogo and usually put it in sleep mode to charge. It will quick charge that way.
If I still need to use it at critical battery level, plugged into the pogo plug, it maintains power and possibly gives it a very slow increase in charge. Almost none noticeable, but will maintain power level (unless tons of graphic, camera or movies along with full bright screen).
I've just taken it for granted that this is how it works. Pogo plug will maintain battery while using and will switch to quick charge once put into sleep mode or powered off. It's always acted that way, so I have never known anything different.

Well I'm sure about what did you said,but in my opinion this is a marketing bulls$h*t. Why would I use that Pogo cable if it's role is to charge only on sleep mode and powered off?I ordered because I thought that like the instructions of the pogo says:" it will charge the battery even when you are using it for movies and browsing,being more handy ,because you have the micro USB port free." I play games ,I surf the web,so my tablet is hooked up to a USB hub so I have connected a mouse,a keyboard and a game controller,so my USB port is full,and I hoped the pogo will help. Charging only on sleep is equal to zero for me,I need live charging,in the same time as the tablet runs games and other stuff. In my opinion this "glitch" should have been told on the pogo site,so I could full understand this cable and it's role. Shame on Samsung,30$ .for nothing! Thanks for the help!
Like a lot of people I charge my phone over night, but with the 6p I wake up in the morning (after a good 8hrs) and its sat on 96-98%. Even though it still says charging.
It's no big deal but when I unplug and plug back in it charges to 100% relatively quickly.
Anyone else see this? I'm using an older charger (from my nexus 4) so may try the proper one tonight.

Isn't this normal behaviour? Most phones stop topping up the battery even when connected on the charger to avoid wearing off the battery.
I used to have my HTC m7 connected overnight to the charger and even though it showed 100℅ in the morning, as soon as I disconnected it from the main the indictor would drop rapidly to ~95℅ which indicated the above behaviour.

I've not seen it before. My galaxy s6 always came off charge at 100% as did my nexus4 and the 5x I owned briefly.
If this is normal and happens to other 6p owners I'm happy with that

Mine is doing this as well. It seems to charge to 100%, stop charging, and not run off power at all. Since I use sleep tracking, in my case, I usually wake up to about a 90% charge. This is the first phone I have seen do this -- they usually charge to 100% and keep running off the charger. I haven't tried the stock 3A charger yet, as there really is no need for a quick charge overnight.

How in the world are you using an old charger on a Type-C Connection? (or are you using a converter?... if so, that may be the reason)
Just using a USB A to USB C cable into the power brick from my old phone.
Pretty straightforward really.
I'll try with the proper charger at some point. It's not a big deal.
Mine hasn't done that. Got it Thursday and it's had a full charge each morning. Using the supplied charger

Every phone I've ever had charges to 100% and stays running off the charger to stay at 100%. Last night (my first night with the phone) I plugged it in with 31% and woke up with it at 81%. It clearly charged....and then stopped charging only to run off the battery while still plugged in. Not normal for any other device I've owned. I would prefer it to stay at 100% until I'm ready to unplug it. Maybe using the supplied charger will do this. I used a USB A to C cable plugged into USB wall port. I have replaced several outlets in my house to ones with built in 2.1A USB chargers.

Why should it matter? wattage is wattage. Does the phone charge differently with the stock charger? Do you always carry it in your back pocket? Do you ever use a car charger?

Carry the phone in my back pocket? No, I don't but what does that have to do with the price of tea in China? I do not use a car charger either. As for wattage, I believe that the type C 3.1 chargers output at 100W and possibly 200W whereas the one you are using might deliver 18W. There might also be damage due to wiring with some of the 2.0 - 3.1 adapters but I'm still researching that.
So why wouldn't you use the type C charger? Besides, you can't plug it in backwards or upside down. And once you get a computer that supports type C the data transfer rates will be astonishing from what I've read.

Do you carry STOCK charger in your back pocket.
Point is, sometimes I need to charge it at work, or elsewhere as I may use it heavily. That's why I would use another charger. Point is, why does it stop charging on the charger and not draw from the charger once it's full. Like I said, mine charged fully then stopped using the charger drawing from the battery. Kind of pointless if I leave it on the charger to be full when I leave in the morning if it's not going to be full.
I'm glad its not just me who finds this a bit odd.
I used the same charger with my nexus 5x, galaxy s6 and nexus 4 and always found the phone at 100% in the morning.
The 6p obviously works differently.

I see what you mean. For a quick boost charge I can see you carrying a cord in your back pocket. I'm really trying to get a full 14-18 hours with this device no matter my usage. If I can't I really cannot justify this expense. I have 4 phones on my plan, a Samsung 5S, two iPhones 6s, and up until yesterday my N5. All other 3 got a full day plus even watching video and listening to music constantly. So no, I'm not carrying a charger, a cord or buying a car charger.
As for your problem of charging, have you tried the stock charger to see if you can get to 100%. I have already twice with no problem. Last night I wanted to unplug it once charged to see how much it drained overnight but I fell asleep at 93% and unplugged a few hours later. 6 hours off the charger it was still at 99% so I'm assuming it charged to 100 or close to it. Perhaps you can do a full charge overnight and then a spot charge during the day if you need. I'm thinking you might not.
I am also having this problem. I am using the included c to a cable to charge with. The phone stops charging around 95% and doesn't charge ever again until I unplug it and plug it back in.
These are the problems with this:
1. Cases where i do not have the included charger with me.
2. On long trips where my phone is plugged in all the time to prevent it from dying. (Streaming music, navigating, etc)
3. Sleep tracking
I'm using the Anker 5 port charging hub at 2A each port.
once your battery gets fully charged 100% - the charging stops to prevent your battery from overcharging. since your battery is not charging - your battery will drop down. once it gets down to 95% - charging resumes until it gets back to 100%.
in other words - that is normal.

Every other phone I have ever had did not do this and instead trickle charged at 100% and ran everything off of the charging port, never had a phone that constantly drops to 95% then back to 100%, that would be a roller coaster during car trips. The problem I'm experiencing is not that situation either; the phone will stop charging and never get charged again, so it could drop to 80% while connected to the charger. It knows it's connected to a charger, but doesn't draw current from it. Doesn't show the charging icon or charging AC, but the lock screen shows the percentage of battery.
I do have possibly some positive observations however. Last night I decided to try it without my USB 3.0 extension cable, and only the measly 1 foot c to a cable Google provided. Without the extension cable my phone charged as it should, went to 100% and stayed there with the charging symbol still on the battery icon. Upon removal of the charger, the battery stats showed only 3 seconds of use, whereas before it would just show everything since last 100% (which was sometimes 50 hours even though i charge my phone every night). I'd have to keep observing this to see if it was indeed the extension cable.
That's interesting wrt the extension cable. I have a extension as well. Will get rid and see what happens. I keep meaning to try stock charger and stock cable but can't be bothered.
It's not normal behaviour or else it'd happen on other phones. I've had nexus 4 iPhone 4s htc one m8 Samsung galaxy s6 iPhone 5s and nexus 5x all using the same charger / extension all have charged to 100% and stayed there.. Except the 6p.
It's not a massive deal, typically it'll loose 1 or 2 percent over night once it's been to 100.
Just an update, it was the extension cable. Phone charges to 100 at stays there until unplugged as is expected behavior. Just don't use USB extension cables to charge devices
