[Q] Apps not compatible with Nexus 7 - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
Was looking to get some help with my Nexus 7. Recently, certain apps in the Play Store do not show up in searches. When I link to them directly from the internet I get the "not compatible with your device" message. And, for the life of me, I cannot figure out why.
I am rooted, running the latest stock JB, and stock recovery. I have my DPI set to 175.
I thought that if I restored my device to stock, re-rooted that would fix it. Well, it did. For a while. I was able to get my apps installed, but now when trying to update, same thing occurs, I get the same compatibility problems. Is there some way around the device check in Play Store?
Any ideas or assistance will be greatly appreciated!!

Never tried it myself, but with the app Lucky Patcher, you can patch play store. Google for it.

This is what happen when you change dpi... If you want to stay with this dpi you have to flash a multi dpi play store GO HERE

Pure ROM

When i go to download my paid apps from Google play store it tells me they are not compatible but the apps are compatible with jellybean. I had no problem downloading them with the stock ROM that came with my nexus7. What do i need to do to get that fixed so i can download my apps and not get that message telling me the apps are not compatible? I'm using the pure ROM but right now I'm back on stock wanting to reinstall the pure ROM if i can get the know how to fix it. I don't have that issue with the roms cm10s and kangs.

Your question might be better asked by the whomever is making the Pure Rom itself. Obviously, there is something different that is making the Play Store think it is not compatible. The dev that put that ROM together should know what that might be.

[Q] Problem with my Nexus 7

Hi
I recently bought a Nexus 7 that came with 4.1.1. I updated ota to 4.1.2 then rooted with a toolkit. For reasons I can't remember I then un-rooted and locked back bootloader. Now, games like dead trigger tell me my device is incompatible with them, even though they ran well on 4.1.1.
What can I do ? Flash another stock version of 4.1.2 ?
Thank you
I don't think there is any link between your root status and software compatibility, you could flash the 4.1.2 stock image to be sure, but I think it more likely that your game needs to be updated.
Rooting does not change your build.prop fingerprint, but the update to 4.1.2 does. This is what the market uses to judge what software will run on your device along with your locale.

There's a lot of things that aren’t compatible with 4.1.2. I'm still running them. You can make a back up the next time to keep the apps. Or use app back up and restore to make a apk and install it on your N7.

Actually rooting 4.1.2 with the toolkit changed a setting and thus making the n7 incompatible with tegra 3 games

Like you can’t install those tegra 3 games from unknown sources?
I have dead space for GB and it doesn't work on ICS or JB, but I backed up the game into a apk and installed it. It worked after that.

[Q] Android 4.3 problems on my Nexus 7 (2012)?

I recently force installed the new 4.3 update on my Nexus 7 (2012) and i'm starting to see problems that did not occur in the 4.2 version that are occurring in the update. When i play games with it, in the middle of game play, the app crashes a lot and i have to relaunch in order to play, other problems are in my "emulators" my Tiger Arcade emulator stopped supporting some roms and even crashes when some are played, the majority of the roms are fully functional in the 4.2 android update, but now the 4.3 update crashes the emulator, i've only gotten Metal Slug 4 to work along with the neogeo bios file (MAME). Street Fighter 3rd Strike also doesn't work anymore. Any one else having the same problem with their Tiger Arcade?
Is there anything i can do to fix this issue or do i have to wait until the developers of Tiger Arcade fix this Android 4.3 issue?
If there is no way, is it possible i downgrade my Nexus 7 to 4.2 again?
I have no idea on how to fix your problems in games and emulator, but I do know that you can downgrade using the proper images from here https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images

Without any intentions of hijacking this thread, I have a small question.
People who have updated to 4.3, are you guys able to run VPN apps like Hotspot Shield, Hide Ninja etc to work properly? Or even connect at all. ?
I am not being Able to do so and another friend of mine who has unrooted completely stock nexus 7 @ 4.3 ... also reports the same thing.
-------
Another thing, I thought Google has changed the Boot Animation in 4.3.
But why am I still on old (X) animation ?

These are the factory images from Google, so these will return your tablet to how it was when you booted it after installing 4.2.2. You can choose not to wipe the data partition which contains all your data, but this may result into problems when booting. You may want to check out this thread for more info.

General Update
My Gtab was feeling old and sluggish and hadn't seen an update for a while and I had stopped using it. Also I have just received a Nexus 4 running android 4.3 which is a fantastic device.
I have applied a nightly release of CyanogenMod 10.1 (4.2.2). The process had some issues for me as the Google Apps package didn't seem to apply correctly however I was able update Play and then all of the google applications after the reboot and everything is there. The tablet now has a new lease on life.
It has only been 24 hours so if there are any issues I will post back.
I agree, it makes my P7510 seem like a new tablet.

Can you help a newbie out? My tablet has 4.04 and it's so sluggish and crashing all the time. How do I go about getting and installing CyanogenMod 10.1 (4.2.2)? And if I do that, will I retain all my apps?
Thank so much in advance.

Go to the development section and you will see an official thread there for Pershoot's CM 10.1 JB 4.2.2 moderated by Nakedninja. You will need a different gapps as the ones for 4.0.4 are not compatible with 4.2.2. However, the required gapps are also available on the same thread, as well as the CWM recovery that you will need for the installation. All the instructions for flashing correctly are also there, just ensure you read before the actual flashing.
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2074202 but start reading from page 1.
Cheers.

WiFi Issues
I installed CM 10.1 for my GT-N8013, which went successfully enough, but now my wifi won't connect to anything. It sees wifi connections and attempts to connect, but always times out. I even tried turning off WPA security and it still won't make a connection. Any thoughts?

Take a look here and download the gapps you need to your tab...
I assume you have either CWM or TWRP installed as your custom recovery, since you will need a custom recovery to install the zip-file. If not, take a look here.
- Boot into your custom recovery
- Install ZIP (choose the gapps zip-file you just downloaded)
- reboot system

Rooted & stock 6p owners, please check if this app is available on Play Store? [Poll]

Rooted & stock 6p owners, please check if this app is available on Play Store? [Poll]
Hello,
Here is the Play Store link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.billguard.android
From your 6p, please let me know if this app is available to you and if you're full stock (unrooted) or rooted. Please respond to the poll in this thread.
Why?
I currently have six active rooted phones (6p, N6 and a few Samsungs), five can download and install the app. On my rooted 6p, PlayStore shows that the app is not available. I contacted support, they keep blaming root, despite my data showing that other rooted phones can download and install the app just fine.
On my 6p, I am rooted using the stock image with no mods to the build.prop. I would like to know if you are rooted, can or cannot download the app, or if you're stock, can or cannot download the app.
BTW, I know I can simply use the .apk from one of my other phones to install on my 6p.
Thank you.
Fine on my rooted 6p, Xposed too. I didn't install it, but the listing shows in Google Play.
Do you have a modified DPI/build.prop or anything?

Strange... now I'm lost as to why my Play Store says it's not available... Thanks for the report.
Contacted BillGuard, they say "Nexus 5p is not supported"
I contacted BillGuard with this question and they said they do not support Nexus 6p. I was surprised and asked why. They said "the screen size of Nexus 6p is larger than other screens". This makes no sense to me, but that was the response from the support rep or whoever responded to the email.
My phone is not rooted but I have changed the DPI via adb. I thought this was the reason, but I don't know if the Play Store decides compatibility, and if it is based on DPI (rather than phone models). I will try to change the DPI later and check.
Rooted, Xposed, stock image / kernel, and it was available for me. Downloaded and everything

Have you changed your DPI or is it stock?
It says my device isn't compatible, but I'm running a custom ROM and am using a custom DPI (440).
Root and works for me. I'm also on the pure nexus rom if that may help with anything.
6p, rooted, stock ROM, multiple xposed mods and it's available for download for me as well. Stock DPI settings as well. Strange.

The devs of Thomas Was Alone will tell you the same thing. When they released the game, the "X-Large" or "Large" screen size didn't exist or Google redid the specs for app screen sizes, so they haven't updated it since. It's rather frustrating because the game ran fine on my Galaxy S4, I just want to play it on my big shiny 6P now.
So it all boils down to the dev hasn't taken the time to test how the app looks on a larger screen and hasn't published it with the new screen guidelines.
rooted chroma, google play web page shows that is available for me.
When I started the thread, I had previously modified the DPI, but later returned it to stock. The app was still unavailable. I later flashed a new stock build, the app reappeared in Playstore. Changed DPI again, and after two reboots, the app disappeared. Thereafter, the app never reappeared, even when I returned to stock DPI. Lastly, I cleared Playstore data--the app came back. Now all is well.
So the brief version of what I just articulated: You need stock DPI. If you previously changed the DPI and returned to stock, clear data on Playstore....
As much as I would like to run a different DPI, enough apps disappear that makes it not worth the trouble. Custom Playstore builds are possible but it's a pain. There is an Xposed module, but it does not work with MM.
Rooted, running pure Nexus and custom dpi (520), unavailable for me.

Stock DPI. The only thing I've changed away from pure stock is root, Xposed, APM+, Snapprefs.

I can confirm this is working. I changed DPI back to stock, waited for a day or two and cleared Play Store data and now BillGuard is available for download. I don't know why app developers would put a hard dependency on DPIs.
