[Q] Android 4.3 problems on my Nexus 7 (2012)? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently force installed the new 4.3 update on my Nexus 7 (2012) and i'm starting to see problems that did not occur in the 4.2 version that are occurring in the update. When i play games with it, in the middle of game play, the app crashes a lot and i have to relaunch in order to play, other problems are in my "emulators" my Tiger Arcade emulator stopped supporting some roms and even crashes when some are played, the majority of the roms are fully functional in the 4.2 android update, but now the 4.3 update crashes the emulator, i've only gotten Metal Slug 4 to work along with the neogeo bios file (MAME). Street Fighter 3rd Strike also doesn't work anymore. Any one else having the same problem with their Tiger Arcade?
Is there anything i can do to fix this issue or do i have to wait until the developers of Tiger Arcade fix this Android 4.3 issue?
If there is no way, is it possible i downgrade my Nexus 7 to 4.2 again?

I have no idea on how to fix your problems in games and emulator, but I do know that you can downgrade using the proper images from here https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images

Without any intentions of hijacking this thread, I have a small question.
People who have updated to 4.3, are you guys able to run VPN apps like Hotspot Shield, Hide Ninja etc to work properly? Or even connect at all. ?
I am not being Able to do so and another friend of mine who has unrooted completely stock nexus 7 @ 4.3 ... also reports the same thing.
-------
Another thing, I thought Google has changed the Boot Animation in 4.3.
But why am I still on old (X) animation ?

So will this erase all my data if i choose to restore using this method, i mean these are other people's backup image files right?

These are the factory images from Google, so these will return your tablet to how it was when you booted it after installing 4.2.2. You can choose not to wipe the data partition which contains all your data, but this may result into problems when booting. You may want to check out this thread for more info.

[Q] Problem with my Nexus 7

Hi
I recently bought a Nexus 7 that came with 4.1.1. I updated ota to 4.1.2 then rooted with a toolkit. For reasons I can't remember I then un-rooted and locked back bootloader. Now, games like dead trigger tell me my device is incompatible with them, even though they ran well on 4.1.1.
What can I do ? Flash another stock version of 4.1.2 ?
Thank you
I don't think there is any link between your root status and software compatibility, you could flash the 4.1.2 stock image to be sure, but I think it more likely that your game needs to be updated.
Rooting does not change your build.prop fingerprint, but the update to 4.1.2 does. This is what the market uses to judge what software will run on your device along with your locale.

There's a lot of things that aren’t compatible with 4.1.2. I'm still running them. You can make a back up the next time to keep the apps. Or use app back up and restore to make a apk and install it on your N7.

Actually rooting 4.1.2 with the toolkit changed a setting and thus making the n7 incompatible with tegra 3 games

Like you can’t install those tegra 3 games from unknown sources?
I have dead space for GB and it doesn't work on ICS or JB, but I backed up the game into a apk and installed it. It worked after that.

NFS MW crashes during startup FIXED

I couldn't find anything on this but I'm running 4.2.1 stock rooted and ever since the update that ea pushed out it will not work. At the loading screen where there is usually graphics there is nothing. Just the words at the bottom telling you to drive safe and all that then it crashes. Is anyone else having this issue? I have a logcat but not sure how to upload through the xda app. Does the paid version allow you to upload?
Fixed. Apparently ea sent out a bad update that affected some users. I deleted, redownloaded, and restored my data using titanium backup and everything is working fine. I'm kinda glad it happened because I was on stock and decided to switch to the new paranoid android to make sure it wasn't a corrupt file in my rom and I kinda like it.

I'd say get on a computer and upload a log. Working fine here for me on Paranoid Android 2.99b6 and on 4.2.1 stock before I flashed the PA rom.

Nexus 7 not updating from 4.1.1 to 4.2

Hello! I have an unrooted N7 that is stuck with 4.1.1. I regularly get a notification advising me of an update & I run it through the process only to be discouraged to find I'm still stuck with 4.1.1.
Can anyone help? I don't want to root & do a bunch of crazy stuff to get the update. Is there a good fix without rooting?
FYI, I found a "fix" that required turning off WiFi, clearing the some of the systems cache, turning the WiFi back on & searching for an update. No dice...

If you have nothing to lose your best and easiest fix would most likely be to perform a factory reset.
Cheers

Try applying the update. When your tablet reboots and you see the Android on your screen, hold down the power button then, while holding it down, press volume up. That'll put the stock recovery in verbose mode. When it errors out, post what the text says here.
Similar thing here.

Yes, I wanted to say this. stay on 4.1.1 or 4.1.2,.... 4.2.x is a piece of crap. Much slower, not the same device at all.
Thanks for advice, then I tried not to update to 4.2 and be happy at stucked 4.1.2
finger crossed and wait for next stable version instead.

4.2.1 is pretty stable, stability is not the problem, but initially it broke a lot of apps compatibility (ok, this will be solved in time), but no matter what I do I have feeling it is slower, and it stutters. I never had this with 4.1.1 or 4.1.2. And I was so happy with my Nexus until 4.2 Anyways, I had 4.2 on my original Nexus, then it died and I sent for repairs, now I have new motherboard (so it counts as different device) and factory-installed 4.2 and it is the same. Even sometimes when playing a game it just stops for a split second... Trust me, new notifications and multi user (if you're not using it) is not worth the smoothness of 4.1.1
Cheers,
D.

Thanks for reply, I'm curious to know as why my N7 stuck at 4.1.2, there may be reason as I tried several times update (reboot and installed, stuck at 4.1.2) no matter how I tried) but I'm peace in mind as 4.1.2 stability.

Nexus 4,4.3 update worst ever!!!(Need Help)

It's been 4 months since i bought Nexus 4 i was enjoying the 4.2 version no problems with heating issues(very minor no biggie),no performance problems neither graphic or application related issues..........however i did found out that there was Bluetooth problem in Nexus 4 devices, thought by next update it might solve that issue(bug).
Now i updated to 4.3 i received OTA and after installing it :-
The games i used to play lag ridiculously which didn't in previous 4.2,i saw drop in frame rates, the graphics were better before now the look like some 8-bit textures.....What the Hell?!?
My phone now get overheated my messaging and surfing which it didn't used to on 4.2 and it heats like anything when i am on call.....
Now it works very slow as if the update has degraded its hardware capability..... :crying:
Please provide me instructional guidance on how to rollback to my previous 4.2 version stock android(i did factory reset it didn't help, its still 4.3)
I need your HELP here!!!
You can flash 4.2.2 factory image through fastboot.

is it that hard to use forum tools to search for keywords like... say... nexus 4 toolkit? come one people... it's a rule, it ain't matter you are a newbie you can always search... anyway go to nexus 4 section, then go to original android development and there you have toolkits in the first 5-6 threads. goog luck
I'd personally reflash the 4.3 factory image before going back, I've had no issues with 4.3 after a nice clean install (never used the OTA as I didn't wanna wait)

4.2.2 was really much better to be honest, but from what i experienced was that my N4 became very slow i mean chrome taking time to open gmail taking time to open a mail and even refresh, the games i have like Vector,Virtual Tennis Challenge i saw like graphics screwed up........maybe i agree with you maybe be they are not compatible.....
But overheating, reduced performance, its to much to take,i googled a found people unable to turn on their N4 atleast am lucky my situation wasn't upto that.
Thats weird... I installed NFS Most Wanted, Asphalt 7 and they both worked nicely... I also thought there might be some graphics issues but its fine. Maybe you like to try again? maybe there's a missing wipe or something that is causing all these problems.

Hmm.. gotta wonder why Google provides Android upgrades but no easy way to downgrade. Even Microsoft Windows Update Service Packs have an uninstall option to roll the changes back.

What's not easy? Download the factory image from Google and flash it the same way you would any factory image from Google. It has the easiest of all mobile phones to up/downgrade as it's a Nexus device

That was the same thing in my mind though, but it seems Nexus 4 has no option to rollback stock, the galaxy nexus series do,some i think.
Flashing 4.2.2 stock is the only solution i think:angel:

i just recieved it myself on my Android 4.4, it says "fixes bugs" which i haven't felt there was, but i guess it's not everyone that finds the bugs they fix, and maybe the performance will go up a little more, i will bench a little later, depending on how much i have to do at work
Yeah it's mostly under the hood bug fixes. There's no change log but one new 'feature' they found is that it will remind you to set up a backup account if you have multiple Google accounts on the device.

i read some has gotten OTA but not everyone, i used adb yesterday at work to "sideload" 4.4 on to my Nexus 7 2013 16gb tablet and it just is nice running smooth, no heat around my cam anymore in use.
i normally game a little and use it for Teamviewer. I brought my tablet bcs i was tired of dragging a laptop with me around, bcs i drag it to work everyday.
I basicly when at family, or friends house use my tablet for surfing, teamviewer and all what i used the laptop for it's nice

the factory image and the one that comes on OTA should be the same as far as i know.
but it was pretty easy to flash my tablet, it took a little bcs i had a problem but when i fixed that one it went smoothly and no issues at all.
anyone else's touchscreen get ridiculous after this small OTA? I never had issues, then we got that jellybean OTA to "fix" touch screen issues for certain people, which then proceeded to break my touch screen. then I got kitkat, and it's perfect again, no touch issues anymore.. now I got this OTA and this morning I had to press everything 5 times before it registered! I did a reboot and it went away, but seriously, if they broke touch again, I'm giving up on this tablet.

Just got it via OTA (had side loaded KitKat before that). Made me lose root but that should be easily fixed.
I had side loaded 4.4, unlocked and rooted. I got the OTA notification and there was an error installing and now I'm stuck in a bootloop. When it comes up it has dead android with red exclamation point and says "No command."

Same thing happened to me. I got the OTA notification but stoopidly I had SuperSU in OTA survival mode. The update failed and I ended up at the 'No Command' recovery thing you are talking about.
I was able to fix it by manually flashing the /boot, /recovery, and /system partitions (NOT /userdata ) in fastboot using the KRT16S system image that can be found here (https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#razorkrt16s). Everything was okay after that - all of my user data was intact and I was updated to KRT16S :good:
