[SOLVED!] White screen of death - HD2 General

Hi
i had the same problem of white screen freeze ... i tried many ways on the internet the only way that it worked for me was to
1-i entered my serial number in htc official website and get the official rom from this site , not in xda , get it from htc official site!
2- get 2gb memorycard and format it to FAT32
3- right click on the official rom you got from htc website and click ' Extract" ( you must have winrar or any compression software )
4 - change "RUU_signed.nbh" to "LEOIMG.nbh" and put it in your memorycard
5 - go to bootloader ( put the battery out and again on the phone and press "power+Vol down)
6- then it will try to install the rom and it worked for me.. it may take a while
note: charge your battery even if the phone seems to be freezed before the procedure
- the size of memory card must be 2 or 4gb
- use your serial number behind the battery to get the official rom

I do my ROM updates using the XDA's bootloader and an SD card. This seems to work a little better with less chance of things getting messed up. There's also a way to run an installer program on your PC but my observation is that a lot of people who have had problems have used this other method.
a few questions first:
Who is your carrier now?
Do you have an SD card 32MB or larger? (If you don't you'll need one.)
Does the phone/Internet work satisfactorily (even though it's in German)?
DISCLAIMER: I am an idiot. I've probably forgotten some crucial detail or two here. It's up to you to figure out where I'm full of sh*t before starting.
Spend an evening or two reading all of the threads in this 'ROM Updates' forum. It's good to understand the ways something can go wrong and how to avoid making that happen.
Back up all of the data on your XDA before starting. This includes your contact/calendar/task data (normaly these sync with Outlook on your desktop PC when you run Activvesync) as well as any documents that you have saved to device RAM.
Some people do a full backup of their XDA, but it's tricky to restore from this backup when you're not restoring to the same OS version that you backed up from. So I don't bother - I just make sure my outlook data and documents are stored away somewhere safe on my PC.
Back up any data that you've stored on your SD card. You'll end up erasing the SD card as part of the process.
Go here:
http://www.xda-developers.com/XDAtools/
and download XDA tools. You'll use this program to move ROM images to the SD card in your XDA to update the ROM.
Go here:
http://www.romanweb.com/yorch/
and in the "ROM Kitchen" section choose the elements you want to have installed in your XDA along with the OS. The XDA has leftover space in the available ROM memory after the basic Operating System is in there, and the kitchen allows you to put other stuff in here (so it won't take up RAM unless you're actually using it). You can choose a European O2 image or a US T-Mobile image. As long as the bar at the top of the page doesn't read "Overload" you can make a ROM image with what you have selected. Make sure that "Zipped NK.nb1 (SD-Card flashing)" is checked, and press "Build ROM Now" The kitchen will go work for a few minutes and finally will indicate that it's ready to download. Make a note of what your choices were for this image (this is more important after you've been playing and you have downloaded a few different ones), and download the ZIP file to your PC.
You need some software like WinZIP to extract the nb1 file from the ZIP file. If your version of Windows (XP, 98Plus, etc understands "compressed folders" this will work. Use whatever method to extract the .nb1 file from the ZIP file that you've downloaded.
(NOTE: You CAN'T just rename the extension of the file to .nb1 if it's something else like .zip or .exe. Sounds obvious that this won't work but people try it anyway)
Put your SD card into your XDA (you've backed up the SD card, right?) and press the soft reset button on the bottom while holding down the power switch. This will put you into the "Wallaby Bootloader" of the XDA. Read about it here: http://www.xda-developers.com/bootloader/ Press the Contacts button on the upper left of the front to the XDA, and use the joypad to highlight CE+BOOT TO SD. Then press the middle of the joypad to start the copying of your machine's Rom to the SD Card. The screen will count up the progress until it indicates that it's done. Remove the SD card and reset your XDA again.
Put the SD card back into the XDA - it will detect that the SD card is no longer formatted (the ROM image overwrites the formatting) and will ask to reformat the card. Select Nein (German for No). Put the XDA in the sync cradle, and use XDA tools to move the ROM and Boot files from the SD card to your PC for safe keeping. IF you've backed up both the ROM and boot files there should be an .nb1 (ROM) and an .nb0 (boot) file to transfer
Now use XDATools to move the new ROM image .nb1 file that you cooked up in the kitchen onto the SD card. When this is done, remove the XDA from the cradle.
Make sure your battery is fully charged. Don't want to run out of juice during the next step.
You might want to turn off the phone part of the XDA next. I haven't, but people always wonder what will happen if someone calls you while you're in the middle of an upgrade.
With the new ROM image on the SD card in the XDA, soft boot the XDA with the power switch held down. This time the XDA will recognize that there is a ROM image on the card and will offer to install this image.
If you don't get the screen offering to install the image, make sure that you installed the ROM image to the SD card using XDATools. Just copying the file to the SD card using activesync or Windows file copy won't work.
When you do get the offer to dowload the ROM image, press the "Action" button to do so. Again the counter will count up, and when it is done the system will do a checksum (to make sure it got loaded right). If the checksum is OK, it will tell you to Hard reset the XDA. Remove the SD card, and press the button inside the tiny hole on the right bottom. This will turn the XDA all the way off. Wait a couple of seconds, and then press it again to Cold Boot the XDA.
If you've been good, the XDA will boot up with a new, English ROM version installed.
***
Some other notes:
If your bootloader is Version 5.17 the above process won't work (the bootloader version is shown on the first bootloader screen). Read the xda-developers page about the bootloader for info on what to do if this applies.
Need help
THanks for a very explained reply .
Infact since I did not had SD card and I tried to run the upgrade utility and guess I had screwed up .
Now when i power up i only see a progress Bar and try to connect the cradle to laptop it does not sense the device as well .I tried soft and hard reset couple of time .
Bootloader is working and its v5.15 .
I am totally helpless .
Is there anyway out from here .
I would be thankful . Please help
Hi ...
Seems the upgrade files have been corrupted. Whenever you make a soft or hard reset it trys to flash the ROM. The safest option here since the bootloader is working fine is to get a ROM backup on SD card from any other working device (it doesn't matter what ROM version), but it should be the ROM only. Make sure it's NOT the RSU backup.
Insert the SD card into the device and go to the bootloader screen. It should sense the ROM backup and will flash your XDA.
Good luck ...
Thanks to Cooperative people !
THanks !! ,
Thanks for your help .Especially to Qman and Ronin !, who went out of the way to help me fix my XDA problem .
People like them make this world a little better !
Cheers to them .
Finally after lot of struggle with Ericsson Parallet MP3 Burner which had glitch with windows XP and then XDRIT problem with windows 98 ( XDRIT does not work with 98 ) and then when i used XDRIT with windows XP thru a parallelt port ROM burner it read but declined to write . Even ROM image tool when wrote to the ROM , XDA refused to accept it a CE Rom .
Finally with right leads , I got my XDA working again !!
Thanks for your help and lead to right threads !!
Have a nice weekend and thanks for your timely help .to all who have contributed to this place called XDA forum ...

We know this but thanks anyway. The gold card is only required to change ROMs.
but how can you install gold card on a hd2 as i was trying to find how to get the serial number of the memory card which i was unable to get or understand...is there a dumbies guide for a novice please
Yes I think it's sticky'd in the ROM section. I used it on my o2 phone and it worked first time. Qmat is what you need for the serial number. It's all in the sticky anyway.

PLEASE HELP : HD2 broken - need Goldcard - i can make small DONATION

Hi,
first, my HD2 Leo is a french one (SFR operator).
i put lot of ROM without any problem. The last one was the Chucky ROM.
i try to put the "Cruzer 4th" : but it was a ROM based on 3.14/SPL 3.03 official HTC ROM : it broke my HD2.
i try to flash with a old HTC ROM (1.42 / 1.66 ) without success... i try with a old SFR ROM, without success. ("ID invalid vendor" message)
the only solution to get back a old SPL ( 1.42 ) seems to make a goldcard.
so: i search a goldcard for my HD2, and someone who can help me little.
i have money problem, i can't buy a new HD2 (too expensive)....
but i can make a small DONATION via PAYPAL to thanks the guy who help me to recover my HD2.
THANKS IN ADVANCE
NOTE: i don't have any access to windows mobile on my HD2. only the red/green/blue/white screen at boot. only boot via SDCARD can be OK. USB transfert seems be ok.
hint
you can flash from SD Card any firmware, even official with replacing SPL, here is the procedure
- Take any "RUU_signed.nbh" from a ship ROM and copy it to SD card.
- Rename it to "leoimg.nbh"
- Reset the device while pressing the volume down button.
I do not have experiences with it, so take it just as a hint, to be sure maybe you should try to check some threads about it, for example start with this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=820038&highlight=rename+ruu_signed.nbh
anyway, if you insist on the goldcard, here is the right thread for you, just put your CID number and wait
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=650719
thanks a lot pedro.
i donwload now the SFR ROM... but i think it will don't work..wait and see.
about golden card, i think it will don't work , because i saw i must launch a file (enablerapinew.cab) from my HD2 windows mobile... but i can't !! : i have only the boot screen now (red/green/blue/white)
ok, i try to flash with my original ROM from SFR... not work.
- USB way : HTC flash indicator stay always at 0%
- SDCard way: have only the "loading" message advitam

Renaming a,stock nbh to leoimg.nbh should work every time. Make sure you SD is formatted to fat32 then put the leoimg.nbh on SD card. Remember to extract a stock Rom from HTC website using 7zip or similar and only rename the ruu_signed.nbh hope it works

[Q] How to sync when in white screen error?

Hi Guys,
I'm kinda stuck here, hope you'll be able to help:
Situation is as follows:
I have an HTC Leo, and after 2 months of usage - got the white screen:
1. Tried soft reset - no good
2. Tried hard reset - no good
3. Cannot sync to PC with ActiveSync - does not detect the device
4. Can go to boot mode, but only with voulme down+soft reset button
5. Cannot sync in boot mode as well - there appears to be a "USB" writing at the bottom, (white line on boot mode) though ActiveSync does not detect via usb?
6. Tried to install HSPL2 - starts to install, never finishes, proggress bar goes up and down forever (on PC) - I believe device needs to be synced before installing?
7. Device is enabled in the device manager, though cannot explore - thus no access to SD card
8. Here we go, I seem to do something wrong, PLEASE HELP, I payed for the device about 400E in my country, stock warranty is not an option
9. HEEEEEEEEEELP
10. Thanks!!!
Try flashing the stock ROM for your HD2 via SD card. If you have a T-Mobile HD2 then go to T-Mobile.com to download the ROM you will have to enter the IzmEI number from under your battery to download it. If you have a international HD2 go to HTC.com and enter your serial number that is under your battery to getca list of ROMs you can download and install on your HD2. If the ROM is a .exe you will have to right click it and renamecthe file .zip to view the contents. After that follow the instructions in the thread linked below to flash the ROM.

[Q] Thanks
Hi, thanks for the info,
When I go to HTC homepage, i find "Rom Upgrades" - is that the same as the ROM itself?
Sorry if the q is dum ,I'm completely new in this
And also - does the card have to be empty (only ROM in) so that the phone boots it?
Thanks again

Yeah that is what you are looking for. The ROM upgrades is the most recent official ROMs out for the HD2. Just make sure you use your serial number to make sure you get a ROM that is for your HD2 or you will not be able to flash it unless you get HSPL on your HD2. Also make sure the HTC site you are on is for your part of the world, your country or the country the HD2 originated from.
[Q] Hi again, last q
When I Explore the contents of the rom I see numerous files, and reading the instructions you linked tells me to rename an image. The ROM is an exe, so I renamed it to zip , explored and currently I see only one .nbh file:
RUU_signed.nbh
Should I rename this one to LEOIMG.nbh and copy this file only to SD card? Or rename and leave there, take the whole exe and put it into the SD Card?
Would that be sufficient to run the ROM in bootload?
Thanks again brother, you're a lifesaver

Just take and copy the RUU_signed.nbh file make a copy ofcthe file and past it to your desktop and then rename it to LEOIMG.nbh then copy that file to the root of your SD card. All you have to have is the .nbh file but it has to be named LEOIMG.nbh.
You can also flash a radio, splash screen, and MAGLDR this way if need be. But you would still have to flash CWM via custom RUU via USB if you installed MAGLDR.
[HIHI]
Great - now "Radio fail" - update terminated... any ideas?
Exact error description:

LEOIMG.nbh - Fail
RADIO - Fail

UPDATE FAIL
and this is an official HTC ROM?!?

Sorry I had to get some sleep, anyway I suggest you first make a backup copy of your SD card and then reformat your SD card using the Panosonic Mick SD card formatting software, just Google it you will find it. Do a full wipe of hour cardcand format it using Fat 32. Then copy the LEOIMB.nbh to your card and try it again. Also try to use a card no bigger than a 8GB as bigger SD cards are prone to give people problems when flashing via SD card. Note I did not say they will notcflash a ROM, bit they sometimes give people trouble.
Also I forgot to tell you this morning that if your HD2 says USB in the white bar of bootloader and it also says HTC USB sync in the device manager in the control panel of your computer, then you have a Sync connection to your computer but you can not use this connection for anything bit to flash different software to your HD2.
[Q] Hi Buddy, 10x for staying so long :)
Sorry brother,
I really appreciate your help so far.
Same Sh*t - even after FAT 32 format
When tried to upgrade with the official HTC ROM - "RUU_signed...." (not via SD) HTC boot screen appeared, but after 1% said : Image corrupted". It coud be that the stock rom sucks big time. May be try with some Artemis?

Yeah maybe you got a bad download of the ROM. If that was the only official ROM you could down load. I would try to download it againcand delete the first copy you downloaded, or I would flash HSPL. to my HD2 and then try to flash the stock ROM are a custom ROM. Custom ROMs are better than stock ROMs anyway. Just remember though if you have a warranty and you need to send your HD2 in for warranty work or exchange you need to revert your HD2 back to complete stock. This means ROM, radio, and SPL.
