Hi, I'm pretty new to rooting and just rooted my old DROID X. I'm having a lot of trouble with the pdroid auto patcher. So if anyone knows of a rom that will come with pdroid? Or if they can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. That app was the reason I wanted to try to root my DROID X.

I'm not sure if that rom will work on my phone. Mine is first DROID X, but I will probably try to install it if I can't find one. If it breaks oh well, it's just a back up phone that I wanted to use to learn how to root it. Thank you

On these steps is were in got stuck. When I rooted the DROID X I used the method of burning it to a cd and booted my computer off the cd. On the step for the auto patcher where it says to drop the rom on to it and then click start this is the step I'm stuck on. All I have is the image I used to burn it to a cd. I tried dropping the image on it and it doesn't work. Do I need to take out the rom from the cd or image file somehow?
Not sure what Rom your speaking of if it's stock oxidized pdroid won't work, if it's a custom Rom you should be able to find a .zip that will work.

yeah and if you brick it you can always just reaload and try again, thats the fun with modding stuff, its what keeps us going... I bricked my droid X over 20 times trying to get off the stupid .621 update, kicked screamed, pulled at my hair untill finally I got it to .621 rooted with proper K and Wifi patch, also did every way possible just for fun to check them all out...
BTW if anyone has old ROMs that work for the .621 rooted or .621/605 hack or .604 milestone vers of it can you let me know? I am interested in trying some old roms besides the blurr conversion ones such as apex, vortex and the other ones.

On the image you burned to cd, DID you correctly burn the IMAGE or did you just burn the file? you have to have a cd burner that will burn the image to disk not just burn the stuff, its totally different.
What program are you using to do this? different ones ask for the files to be in different format, you might be using something that cant use the image which is .ISO file but maybe it needs to be in .zip format, that can explain why it wont let you drop that file in, can you be more specific about what ROM it is and the file your trying to patch as well as the program your using to do this, there are different programs that run off CD not just one so without knowing exactly what your set up is its hard to give help.
He is trying to get pdroid working and needs to be able to unzip and rezip the Rom as stated in instructions that's why he needs a zip and it must be a "deodxed"
Rom and he is using their patcher with their instructions
If I am reading right he's stock rooted and odexed and is why it's not working

I heard a while ago that if you root your droid x wrong/at all you will turn it into a brick and not be able to unlock it in anyway. Is this still true? I want to be sure I didn't pay 150$ for something that I am going to potentially turn useless.
There is always the slight possibility that any phone can be bricked, if you're too concerned about bricking your phone just leave well enough alone. No harm no foul right.
The Z4 root seems pretty fool proof, its mainly when you start doing themes and others hacks that you can really screw things up since you're messing with more files.

its very safe go for it. u r missing out on so much
I haven't heard of anyone bricking their phone by rooting... i used z4root...as long as you follow the directions while themeing your phone or flashing new roms i feel its pretty hard to brick your phone... each dev has instructions for flashing their rom and they seem to be all the same... some might not require you to wipe system as the rom will do that while its installing.. there are even videos on youtube for flashing roms... now if you did brick your phone you would have to sbf your phone and there are instruction on doing that online as well... you just gotta go for it as i think flashing a new rom is well worth it regardless of the rom you flash....

Yes and no... I believe what most people are trying to express here, is there are plenty of benefits to rooting your phone. However, if you truly are not computer/technologically savvy, I would advise you to wait before rooting. Do some reading around on the forums here. I feel like there have been a lot of people lately who have tried to root their phones, and make modifications to their phones that are a little over their head.
While yes, many times there are great instructions to follow so even those who are not super familiar with android or technology can still get by... But with that, many of the modifications involve doing some tasks that can be done (e.g. typing in a command wrong) that can result in damage to your phone.
I don't write this to deter you from wanting to modify your Droid X, don't get me wrong. I simply wish you the best with your modifications and advise you to do some research before jumping in head first.
Good luck, and if you have questions, feel free to ask. There are plenty of people here who are more than happy to help =)
Do a bootstrap recovery first, install z4root, enjoy.... I didn't understand all this when I started ether, if you look up rooting droid x on youtube there are step by step videos to help you.

I think most people get in trouble when they really start digging deep into the system files and don't know what they are doing. Flashing roms can be a bit scarry with a locked bootloader like the dx has. I suggest that you read all you can about the subject first, that helped me get comfortable with the whole process before I did it. Now I'm glad I did root. Z4 root is super easy, one touch, no computer needed pm me if you need the file.

ps Say thanks to cvpcs for making this happen!
I have tried flashing this twice. The first time from Apex 2 RC2 which bootlooped at the moto logo. I then SBF'd to 2.3.20 which booted past the moto logo to the cyanogen boot animation but it got stuck in a loop there as well. Has anyone had any luck getting this booted up? If so can you give me some advice as to what I'm doing incorrectly.

@zibrah3ed Check the threads on rootzwiki that jbird listed in the first post. Stuff seems to be moving very fast for the Droid 2 over there.

Don't use bootstrap, use rom manager
Cm makes use of a second init process to hijack. Bootstrap messes with this and causes bootloops
If you installed via rom manager then try battery pull. Then from recovery wipe data and cache that should fix

Yes, i did use the new rom and it did loop, and yes t did bootloop, what i did was battery pull, thn hold x nd boot it up nd thn a android icon with a triangle with an exclamation mark, thn release x nd press the search button nxt to the mic button. Thn wipe cache/data, i did both nd then click reboot, nd let it boot, and just wait a bit nd should boot up if nt do it again. And also one more bbug is that when you get a call or receive a call the person on the other side cannot hear anything you say, but you can hear what they say though.
I found it and test it two days ago!it work on this device very good and had no FC yet by my test! I don't have enough skill to build a 2.3 ROM for it! I know this place have someone can help us a CM 7 ROM either a 4.0 ROM.

WOW! It's Great!
I tested CM7 on a xt720 and it is a really amazing rom!... If could be possible that hack CM7 to run in a FlipSide, it will for sure make this phone a very nice option, since it will help with the main issues of the phone and IMHO, the FlipSide is an underrated phone, since their hardware is very capable (and in my experience very reliable), since the only main gripe may be the low memory but
CM7 will help a lot with this since is greatly suited for use the SD card as memory.
Thanks for share the info and thanks for start the process of develop CM7 to flipside, it will be a great success!
Best regards

Thanks for your job!Yes,this is a simple chinese recovery, but my english is very bad,so i can not translate chinese to english .first you install the apk file, and then press the first button to install the recovery, and last you press the fourth button to boot to the boot menu.you will reboot to the bootmenu and recovery UI!
I don't really understand how... But using said recover... It would appear that i have overclocked my phone to 1 ghz...
Setcpu seems to agree... However only 1 ghz and 300 mhz seem to work...
And my short benchmark numbers are lower as well...
Just thought i'd share
Sent from my MB508 using Tapatalk
Now... Upon more playing... I've figured out how to edit the settings in the cpu settings menu... And setcpu still insists that we are overclocked...
I cannot however get more than 2 frequencies to work... Default the 1000 and the 300...
I'm really interested in the smartass govenor... Thinking that it might help the anemic battery
BTW: in the data directory... The bootmenu.tar... In the config directory... The overclock.conf needs txt editor editing

Hello! Thanks for your good work and efforts.
Please, dont give up on this attemp to get a rom for flipside, after almost 6 months of trust on my flipside I found is such cable and is mostly the crap original rom that make hurt to the flipside, since the processor is good candidate for overcloking and with an more fit option to use sd memory, the phone could be a amazing for their humble birth.
Please, if could be possible to post some omore info and instructions in order to see if possible that some other friends of the flipside around here may enter and help with testing process and debugging.
Thanks again for good work and please keep it rolling.

Guys, I need some help.
I need to return my EVO Shift to Sprint and need to unroot. I did a search for "unroot" in this forum but couldn't find any clear instructions.
I have Cyanogenmod 7.1 installed (the official one).

Search for the RUU. Run it. You'll go to unrooted stock. I have one on my old SD card if I find the time I'll load it up
Shifted from Outer Space
Or you can flash a sense based rom and take the OTA. That should work too

Flash the PG06IMG.zip file from the shift rookit below:
http://www.goo-inside.me/roms/VICODAN/shift-rootkit.rar
Copy the file to the SD card power off the phone, hold vol+down plus the power button and accept the update. You will lose all data including data on the sd card and will be unrooted on Froyo 2.2
Seems like just running RUU 2.2 is the easiest. I searched for it and got a link to multiupload which doesn't work.
Anyone know another source?

Well... seeing how most android users (90% plus don't root) will blindly accept any and all ota updates, the tech said it was very odd for a user to still be on froyo... He said I put off 3 ota updates, and he was curious as to why... I shrugged my shoulders and said " I dunno"...

Also going to 3rd party stores makes life easier as well. I took my phone rooted last week and the tech told me to go unroot my phone and bring it back because his DM was there. LOL
Yeah someone I know was having touchscreen issues, with the phone. Told them, your insured, only been a few months since you got it. Take it back in and let them look at it. But first let me Unroot it. She was in a hurry, and took it to Sprint Rooted. Tech knows me, so he called me up. Was not a good situation . If the Manager had been there they would've flagged her account.

My phones not under warrenty anymore. I go to third party stores and I don't care if they know it's rooted or not. As a matter of fact I tell them it's rooted. I've been told by people that sprint doesn't care if you root your phone or not as long as it's not under warrenty. I've also been told by a sprint employee that you can root your phone. There's a law that most people don't know about that protects developers from carriers attacking them with legal issues. Fear I have not.
Confirmed working by myself and 2 other users so far.

Awesome! I'm still trying to read through the post...and still will after getting a response here but....
Will this work with the current OTA that i received about 2-3 weeks ago?
And I have to redo this after rebooting?
I don't even care about putting another rom on it (CM11 would be cool though) but I just wanna terminate the bloatware and get my AirStream App running again!!!
If this works...

I can also confirm that write protect is off and I have SuperSU and Safestrap all successfully installed. I tried installing CM11 on romslot-1 but it displayed the droid with the red triangle. Any suggestions on how to get CM11 booting now?
I can also confirm this works. I'm rooted with Write Protection off at 4.4 & 19.6.3.
The exact steps have been posted later on, in the same thread.

I'm not too sure but I think we need specific CM11 (AOSP builds) for SafeStrap or you need a Unlocked bootloader for AOSP Roms.

AOSP based roms require a different kernel. Safestrp cannot flash kernels. No AOSP.
How lucky are you to have confirmed that write protection in fact could be turned off when even the exploit author himself believed otherwise? Great job OP.

Indeed. Probably should have snagged a scratch-off that day to celebrate!

I concur...
I know I originally asked if this is legit, but after trying it...
It's legit, Safestrap working, rebooted several times haven't lost root!
Do it guys!!! DO IT!!!
Confirmed working on Droid Mini XT1030.
I'm really impressed you found this just by experimentation and not reverse engineering code or anything like that.
Whenever I experiment, it usually ends in bad luck, hard-bricked devices, and tears!
Confirmed!
Confirmed working on my XT1080! Thank you for your effort! :highfive:
Im now rooted with WP off and have safestrap installed on my mini.
Ive had zero luck installing any custom roms and figured it was because I was on 4.4,19.5.3. I reinstalled OTA (19.6.3) , retained root but still am having no luck with Roms.
Can someone point me in the right direction? I can't find any Mini or rom forums but I think the Ultra is compatible so I've been looking around here.
Any help is appreciated , thanks !

Although MAXX/Ultra/Moto X ROMs will boot on your device, you will find there is no sound and you cannot flash them without an unlocked bootloader. Sorry.
At least I have an answer , thanks !

I had the Droid bionic before this phone. dhacker & hashcode made a safestrap flashable cm9/10. It had to be flashed in slot 1. Perhaps if some interest was shown, they would make one for the ultra/ maxx.

does anyone know if towelroot by geohot work on the moto x and droid series?

You could try but I recall reading in the Towelroot thread that it won't work on Moto and HTC devices since /system is write protected.

I couldn't get it to work on a Droid Mini XT1030. Just sits there, never reboots. After a half hour (I have lots of patience), I rebooted manually and it did not have root.
