So I've got a dx I'm getting set up for my wife...
Originally installed paranoid android but was having problems sometimes getting past a bootloop and did not realize that it won't charge during recovery,,,, it also would not charge while off it kept trying to reboot which would then loop....
So i searched and read about cutting an old cable and rigging it so it would work with dead battery..
That worked and seemed to be going fine, wound up doing an sbf and starting over, rooted again ,,, all was good,, (or so i thought) took off the cable rig,,,
and now if i try to charge it it shows a green light and icon animates like it's charging,,, but it's really not. It died again...
Thought maybe just the battery was old and gave up the ghost...
So i ordered another BH5X,, got it in and same thing happens with it,,, and if i try to charge from a powered off state it will try and boot up fully but then quickly display a large battery with a question mark and then reboot, starting the cycle over again...
What gives??? Did I screw something up internally, with the cable hack???

Had the same problem here. It seemed like charging but then fell out almost directly. Like he's using too much power while charging (even when power is off). After an extremely long charging he finally gave up 4% .. But went dead again after like 15 minutes......
Somebody any idea? Lot a thanks if you have any!..
if you did something like [Howto] Fix "Battery Low - Cannot program
you likely fried your phone and there is no fix
but phone not charging can be one of several problems
bad software: fix with sbf
bad charger: buy new charger
bad usb charging port: no fix at least not easy anyways Replacement Micro USB Charging Port
bad battery: buy new battery
also may want to buy a Battery Charger for Motorola Droid X (MB810)
or a TBH’s Motorola Programming Cable Adapter

Well, I don't think I had seen any yet but I might be the first device/battery failure as a result of using one of the new superior charging kernels.
I have been using the Netarchy 4.2.2 beta kernal (aggressive with havs) I believe and everything has been fine for the past week or so.
This afternoon I plugged my phone into USB and laid down for a nap. I woke up not long ago and my phone is completely dead now. It will not power on or indicate that it is plugged in or anything. I don't have another battery to test, but could it just be a battery failure? Or is it possible the whole device is hosed?

Anything is possible. Chances are that it was not the kernel though. Try a different charger and maybe a different battery. If all else fails take it in for repair.
How full was your battery before you plugged it in? You could try pulling the battery and waiting an hour or so before putting it back in and powering on.
I was down to about 30% when I plugged it in so it was getting a full charge. I remember getting a phone call during my nap that I ignored. When I finally got up the device was completely dark. I've got it unplugged and the battery out for now. Hopefully it will power back up in an hour or so....
If not I will have to try a buddy's battery in here tomorrow to see if that does anything. If not I'm simply out the device, there is no "taking it in for repair for me" unfortunately.
I hope it powers back up for you. If not, it would be good to try your friends battery so you could start trouble shooting.
Was this the original stock battery?
Sent from my blah blah blah blah
Try a different cable. A little while back I thought my phone borked on me as it would not charge even though the charge light was on. When my wife's did the same thing I got suspicous and tried a different cable. Like magic, the problem went away.
I don't think the phone is hosed, might be just the battery, I had that exact situation happen to me back in december, when plugged in theres not even a light. I tried drastic measures to get it working even heating the battery to 120f for 5 min then letting it cool for 10 over and over, it finally worked when I got to a sprint store and they plugged it in to one of their wall chargers, I was shocked after hours of doing things with no results. to this day im still using the same battery and it has the same life as when new
still using sbc kernels too
been running SBC and have had no negative effects
Original red oem battery. I've tried my usb cable and my 2 wall chargers so far. Still no lights.
I did see the screen blip on for a fraction of a second a moment ago while pressing at the the power button, so that gives me glimmer of hope. About to see what happens with a car charger on the way over to my friend's to try another battery.
Wish me luck!
The fact that you where using the SBC can mean absolutely nothing. I have a friend with an Evo as well, I flashed every experimental kernel and Rom I can find and have had no real issue, hardware wise. Him, on the other had, had only updated via the Sprint OTA, never flashed any custom roms or kernels, never even Rooted.
one night while texting a reply to me, his phone flat out died. it was plugged in and everything, just went black and charge light went out. I put my battery in his phone the next day, swapped SD cards, etc, etc. nothing brought it back to life, it was gone.
Sprint actually replaced it for him, just tell them that you where simply charging it and it wouldn't turn on the next day. they won't be able to get it to boot up because it's dead.. no idea why his did it, I kindof feel that is what happened with yours. I don't think the kernel had anything to do with it.
Well it's been confirmed to be the battery by trying another one.
Today is the first time I've ever let the phone do an extended charge over USB using one of these sbc kernels and the battery just happens to take a **** during the process? That's one killer coincidence...
try the battery again tomorrow out after sitting for a bit, it will charge and work again

This happened to me when I was using a Zendroid kernel a couple weeks ago. You should be able to just plug your phone back in and charge it again. The orange light may blink at first or not turn on for a couple minutes, but it should charge.
I'm honestly not entirely sure, though. I put my dead battery in my sister's Evo, and the light thing is what happened to me. I let it charge in my sister's phone, and it turned out fine. Worked in the morning. Hopefully, you can do it in your own phone if you don't have another way to charge it.

4.2.2 should not have SBC.
It would not be surprising to hear that a stock battery just quits working. Sprint replaces these for peeps all the time. Li-Poly batteries are cheap to produce and like anything else, there are always bad ones in the bunch.
Seriously doubt it was caused by whatever is loaded on the phone otherwise there would be more coming up with same issue. Unless there is something with the beta and USB charging method. Still doesn't sound very likely.

That is a killer coincidence...but I do believe it is just a coincidence. I am at CES right now (well prep meetings and such) and the only way I charge when I travel is through USB. I have been using the 4.3 with SBC straight off of Net's thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=719763) and have had no issues. Good to see you have your phone back, but I am willing to bet it was a faulty battery, not the kernal.
Hope it doesn't turn you away from the SBC kernals, it is so much nicer to see it stay between 100% and 90% for hours on end instead of 10 minutes like before.
It's the kernel from my experience mostly tied to sbc kernels. My phone did the exact thing. I mean exact. Pulled battery, used different cables etc. One thing I did not use was the OEM HTC charger. I have PCs around me all the time or the car charger. My phone died in my room where I have other wall mounted usb chargers. Didn't think anything of it. A few hours later phone died. It was 54% or so when I plugged it in. I came back to a dead phone. Nothing i tried initially worked. Sprint tech support same thing. I knew they couldn't resolve it. I have spare batteries but this OEM battery was too new. I wanted to know the problem so as to not repeat it. Sprint offered to replace my phone but I said let me get back on that. Since I knew the kernels were playing with voltage and that over or under voltage can mess with the phone. I plugged the OEM HTC wall adapter in and sure enough I had a orange blinking light. I waited for a few mins. Booted into recovery and installed a nandroid backup with sense. It booted great and guess what my battery percentage was? 55%. The battery did not die but the system shut down and it wanted the exact voltage from the HTC charger to kick start it. Since then for me personally I have stayed away from sbc kernels. It might work for some but not for me.

Um, SBC and undervolting/HAVS aren't the same thing.
SBC is a new, experimental charging method that "just" came out.
think my phones bricked when I plug in a charger I get a flashing red led, then every so often it turns solid green then the green led goes off it trys to start then switches off again.
What were you doing with your phone before this happened?
Sent from my X10 using XDA Premium App
I have upgraded to wolfbreaks 2.2, I think something has gone wrong with the usb drivers within the phone. The phone no longer charges and my pc sees something but says the USB device has malfuntioned,
I am now in a constant loop of red flashing led for a few mins then the phone tries to start I get the SE logo and then the phone dies.
Could be that the battery has died completely and now you can't charge it. Have you tried repairing with seus or flashing another stock rom with the flash tool?
Sent from my X10 using XDA Premium App
yeah tried but the laptop wont recignise the phone even tried the flashtool and it just told me to connect my phone
You can only 'soft' brick your phone because our bootloader has been bypassed not cracked meaning it can always be returned to stock condition by flashing with seus or the flashtool but what you may need to do is take your phone in for repair and get the USB socket or mother board replaced. Perhaps try flashing on a different PC, you may have more luck.

There have been multiple threads lately with fixes for issues like this. Its either the phone hardware or the battery. There was however one poster who fixed his phone that was acting the same as yours by removing the battery and plugging the phone into the charger for a few minutes then replacing the battery (whilst still plugged in) and letting it charge in off mode. You might just need to try and charge while off and if you are charging with USB via PC you should try AC power as it uses more current.

I have seen the same increased number of problems with this. It seems that it is battery / charging related, and I have started to wonder if the batteries of some headsets now have reached a critical limit. A battery can go from perfectly usable to dead in a secound due to the built in protection circuits. Either they goes off because of some error in the battery, or protection circuit itself might malfunction and go off.
Depending on the circutis the battery can sometimes be restored, but not always, it has to do with the safety circuit design. I have some knowledge about these circuits, but I do not know whitch is in use in the X10 batteries. It might be several different, it is not given that all batteries are made by the same factory even if they have the same label (label is SE design, but SE does not make batteries.)
A good place for getting the basics of battery security circuity is this site:
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/safety_circuits_for_modern_batteries
This is clearly a failure of chargemon
Ask a dev.
That means you need some way to reflash.
i might be wrong...
Its good there's a few suggestions and one is bound to be right so try these things in order to avoid spending money that doesn't nessesarily have to be spent.
1 plug in your phone to the charger without the battery and insert the battery again after a few minutes and leave it to charge.
2 flash on a different PC
3 buy a new battery. bst - 41is the model
4 if none of these things work I'd say the xda member doomlord is the best Guy to ask, he's very knowledge able.
5 take your phone in to be repair, its time for new USB socket or mother board.

Oh well Epic fail with this phone so its off to O2 to get it fixed, got a Nokia 2760 clamshell phone.
That's a pity, looks like it was your USB socket broken which is a fairly common fault or motherboard.

Im not sure, just hope they dont find the 2.2 upgrade lol, otherwise warranty will be out of the window.
If anyone else got this error too, he _could_ try this, it was working with my phone.

I need help getting my Motorola Atrix to charge up the battery. When I plug in the charger the following message pops up in a box, " /!\ Invalid Battery
Your device battery is invalid and cannot be charged.
Replace the battery with an original Motorola battery."
I have the original Motorola Atrix battery that it came with originally. Problem occured out of nowhere. I cleared data/cache, rebooted phone, flashed different roms, took out battery then put it back in, used RSD Lite to flash back to stock 4.1.83 Atrix via sbf file but nothing worked.
Any fix for this?
Still can't figure out the problem.

If you have any warranty left, take it in. Most places don't even question battery problems and will give you a new one.
If not you could always order a cheap battery online and see if that fixes your issue. Or order a battery charger and spare battery. for $10, it's a pretty cheap fix if it works.

i purchased two extra batteries from ebay, and upon putting it into the phone it gave me the 'invalid battery' use original from moto.

Hi guys,
I recently brought a new Note 4 two weeks ago and its awesome, but 2 times this week now I've stuck the phone on charge to get a boost & the fast charge facility has not kicked in.. meaning its only charged about 20% in 30minutes.
If I restart the Note it seems to correct itself but it is a bit frustrating that the phone is less than a month old and 1 of its main selling points isn't working properly.
I have got a sm-n910f running Lollipop 5.0.1
My phones not rooted and I usually clear open apps before sticking the phone on charge.
Fast charge is toggled on. Can anyone give me any suggestions to what might fix this?
I put this query into the battery thread this morning but didnt get a response, so apologies for clogging up the forum but I am hopeful that some genius on Xda can give me some help here [emoji3]
Thanks for your help
Fast chargin is working only till 50% If you are more than 50, then it is charging with normal speed.
Thanks @Matin.salat I know this. When put my phone on charge at 15% and went to check it 20-25 minutes later it had only crept up 9% to 24%
do you get the "adaptive fast charger" (or something like that) notification when you plug it in? are you using the supplied cable? power only cables do not work with quick charge; needs to be data+power.
AFAIK Fast Adaptive charging only works if you have the specific adapter (charging block) that is capable of it. Are you using the original charger that came with the Note 4?
Below is a link to the part on samsung's website;

Hey.. I am using a SM-M910C. I had a similar problem just like you. My device is just 4 months old. Fast Charging used to work properly until a week back suddenly I noticed that it wasnt charging fast. Just like you mentioned, it was charging extremely slow. I checked everything to find out whether the problem was with the phone, power brick or cable. I borrowed my friends cable and tried it on and voila it was working fine. It was showing fast charger connected in notifications. So then I remember that, I had used the same charger and cable to charge my Power Bank before that. And I clearly remember the cable being hot at the time when I removed it. So figured that the cable got burnt off or something. Because the cable needs to have a particular resistance in order to support fast charging. Went and bought a new authentic cable and now fast charging is working as it used to. Never gonna charge the power bank with it anymore.
Hope this helps. Cheers!

Hi Folks...
My Nexus 7, rooted with Cyanogenmod 10.2.1. Grouper since 2014, has been absolutely trouble free until now.
The charging icon was spinning, indicating the battery was being charged, but it was not. The charge never went up, it only when down. This is with the factory wall charger.
At first I suspected software issues, as I noticed mediaserver appeared to be draining. I did a data reset, and the mediaserver usage went away. But the charging indicator still indicated charging even though it wasn't. I also tried the "magic bullet" battery apps, but I didn't expect them to help, and they did not.
I replaced the USB port as I thought it might be bad, and a bit worn out. That did not correct the problem.
I bought a new battery and that did not correct the problem.
That brings me to where I am now. I modified a USB cable that externally charges the battery. The battery quickly and fully charges, and the tablet works as it used to. When that battery starts going down (to about 20%, but it takes a while as it is only sipping the juice!), I pull that battery out and replace it with a freshly recharged battery (yes, also externally charged). Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm wondering if it's a hardware issue where the data cable in the USB port is working but the charging cable in the USB port isn't getting the charge up to the battery. Should my next step be to replace ribbon cables, and if so, which ones and where would I get them? I know opening the tablet up every other day to switch out batteries isn't the best way to go! I did a search, but did not find anyone with a similar problem.
Thanks!!!
I was too wordy above.
The spinning icon indicates the tablet is charging, but it is not. USB port and battery have been replaced to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks!
LOL.... I'm having a pretty good conversation with myself! That's okay. I talk to myself a lot... and it helps me figure things out for myself. The latest: swapping externally recharged batteries is keeping the tablet running fine. But now, whenever I go to Battery in Settings, the only item listed as using battery is Android System, at 100%. No longer is screen or other apps listed. Oh well... Think I'd better do a Titanium backup soon!
Does it charge it the unit is powered off?
Sent from my LGLS992 using Tapatalk
Thank you for the reply! No. It doesn't charge with the tablet turned off. It will show the charging animation when you press the power button, so it appears to be charging, but it's not. Oh.. I did clear the Dalvic cache and the battery settings is once again showing all battery usage.
You could try a pogo cable if you can find one. Really sounds like a capacitor in the charging curcuit is bad. I would just swap out the motherboard.
