Goodbye and thanks for all advice! - HD2 General

Just took delivery of a Galaxy S3. In some way, a sad day for me after a long sequence of great HTC phones, from the original XDA, the XDAs (my favourite phone for its time), the HD and lastly the HD2. Ive been a member of these forums for many years (my relatively new join date relates to a lost account/password) - I have found these forums invaluable for tweaks, fixs and improvements. Ill be heading over to the S3 forums soon.
I'm keeping my HD2 for now - particularly as I am a die hard MS reader fan (yeah I know!). Just need an unlock code which I am heading over to ebay to purchase
So goodbye HD2 and HD2 forums - wish you all well!!

eiy dont say good bye you can be Bi-phone

Bye Bye Nokia,Hello Htc

After 10 years of nokias the n97 finally pushed me over the edge and i am expecting my new hd2 in the post today.Just a question about updating it.After installing the new 1.66 rom do i have to install any other htc official updates or are they all included in the new rom?
Is there a way to check for new updates on the device or do you have to check the htc site all the time?
Also whats this i read about updating the radio. What does this do?
Haha just like my story, my last Nokia was the N97 .. look what they did, they made us nokia users divert to another phone company.
Welcome aboard
Im not sure about the last question, but regarding the first, a fellow good user told me that you most likely not need the official updates, but you can check in the HTC support for the versions they support. Most of them are 1.59 or below, so in that case you dont need them
I think you need to check their support page, or the RSS feed there. Dont know if there is another way.
Hope I helped a bit.
1. First of all congrats to your decision to leave Nokia and move over to HTC - you'll never regret this, I guess...
2. Please use search-function in the future. You have only to install hotfixes that are needed for your ROM-version - so if e.g. on the HTC-page is written sth. like "needed for version <1.6" then you haven't to reinstall these hotfixes again with ROM 1.66 (installation wouldn't work anyway).
3. To check if there are new updates availabel, you have to visit HTC-website (support section) - you can put an RSS-feed onto your phone to check it also - this is my solution. Better it is to visit this thite here XDA-Developers often, and you'll get also informed and beneath this lot of feedback according the updates.
4. RADIO is the firmware for the receiver unit aso. - it is responsible for reception (GSM, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS etc.), very important for battery consumption and also responsible for a couple of other things like sound (not sure about these other things to be honest).
Hope this helps for the beginning.

after tons of nokias, and painful waiting 7 months o release date of n97, i said googbye to nokia.
i gues they would need to make space shuttle in a phone to get me back
For me it's the same, too. After Nokia N70 and E90 Communicator, I also went to HTC. But I had two Pocket PCs more than ten years ago (Casio Cassiopeia), so finally meeting Windows Mobile again.
Same here.. My last phone was n97.. Didnt regret after changing to this phone and i just love my HD2 more and more as time goes by..
I was a devoted Nokia man for years, until one day I saw the Touch Diamond and was overcome with lust. I had my Diamond for a while, then a HD, and now the HD2. I can't imagine ever going back to Nokia now, but I'll always be fond of them.

My story almost the same. I had some Nokias, the last one was N95 and I then I bought a HTC Touch Diamond which... I generally hated . But it had a great GPS receiver and was very small so I was using it quite a while (for a year I guess) and now I'm using HD2 and I'm very happy with it although at first I was a little bit sceptic as I wasn't happy with my Diamond. Anyway in general HD2 is a great phone and I didn;t have some irritating problems with it so I would recommend it to anybody.
Same here, After years of Nokia and Symbian.. The N97 made me Mad ..
So here im HtC HD2
And i Love the Phone..
You've all been slow, look below at how long ago I did that move
hello guys i've beeen a hard core nokia user and after 12 yrs of nokia marriage i divorced it when there was no sign of a new communicator.....
same story here. From the N97 to HD2. Best choice ever. Nokia user for about 10years, but its very doubtful that i will ever go back to Nokia again after the N97 experience. The new flagship after the N95 failed bigtime.
Add another one to the list. I was using the Nokia 5530, and I just sold it on Saturday (literally) to help finance my HD2 purchase. I'll soon join the ranks, and as my wife just said to before I saw this post, "I don't want to ever buy another Nokia phone."
I agree. Symbian drove me crazy. None of these models have enough system memory to function well enough. The N97 is a disaster.
I'm glad I found this forum, because otherwise I would not have known how customizable the HD2 really is, and the fact that it runs Windows Mobile would have caused me to shy away from it.
just settings up the new phone . I have got a major problem hope someone can help

He he this is turning in to an Ex-N97 owners convention.
I'm in too and on a brighter note my wife loves it

Even without WM7 upgrade, I will still buy the HD2 for T-mobile

Yes....I have already read the article (and several discussions from this forum) that WM7 will not be upgradable for the HD2 and guess what....
I will get the HD2 when it come out from T-mobile this month or next month.
Why buy the new phone with WM7 when I already have so many applications/games for the WM6? If I wait for the new WM7, there won't be any good applications for awhile. What good will that do for me?
So who in the USA with T-mobile is still going to buy the HD2 from T-mobile even if it will not be upgradable to WM7?
i think im buying it too.. it depends if the htc desire comes to tmobile usa or not.. buy i really like the hd2 and i think im getting it on march
i already have it with t mobile usa , and i don't really care much for wm7, and besides that's why we have some of the best developers in xda, somebody will copy the wm7 rom and come up with one for us hd2 guys LOL.
I'm still on board for the HD2. And as the previous poster mentioned, I'm not in love with WP7S anyway. I didn't want to upgrade after what I saw at MWC.
I am not with T-Mo but if the price is right I will be for a no contract stint with the HD2. If the price is 100 - 200 short of the Telstra version I will probably keep ATT and import it.
I like WM7, but dont care about it as its not here and I need a nice new phone.

It's supposed to be $450/no-contract, $200/contract from US T-Mobile. If that good enough?
Do you need a T-mobile service to purchase the phone? Will you be able to unlock the HD2 from T-mobile?
I definitely still will. It's a great phone and at $200 subsidized it's an even better phone.

That would be € 332,72 .... Lucky american b*sterds They might as well throw in a 32 Gb MicroSD card and it will still be cheaper than the european version.

I think that they must give us 6.5.3/5 version, because it will be perfect choice for HD2. Excellent hardware + new finger friendly OS = bingo. Best performance and autonomy for us users, and then we dont need any WM 7 or similar toys...
cheers

Yep and a updated Sense with some new features, so we can wear our phones with pride. So if anybody comes along with a WP phone we can say ... yeah alright, but we have a phone with 5 buttons that is powered by HTC Sense. And then we show them our battery covers .... and wish them a nice day.

hehehe, exactly
Hi!
I totally agree with the others in this thread. I just bought the HD2 knowing that there will not be a WM7 upgrade, at least not official. There will most likely take a while before we see any interesting apps for WM7 anyway, and by that time (maybe in a couple of years from now), its time to switch phone. For the moment I'm very happy with WM 6.5.x, especially the amount of available software that runs perfectly. The multimedia, communication and web experience of the HD2 are excellent, thanks to outstanding hardware and good value added software like Sense 2.5 and the Opera browser. I guess that the 1st generation of WM7 (OS and devices) will have some bugs and glitches, and I don't plan to be a beta tester for Microsoft.
Regards,
PK

Please learn me how to find these good applications and games. I have been on the HD2 since December and have not found so many. Bejeweled 2 and Teeter are the only 2 games of good quality. The Marketplace is dead, so really tell me where all those apps and games are!
I really do hope you will answer me, this is not a flame. IMO the problem of the HD2 is the lack of apps and games, but whatever.

Yes , but when WP7 arrives the 6.5 will be dead? Will Developers be kind enough to create apps for 6.5? Most of them will create for 7 ... Thats a shame for me..

Well, search these forums for Xtrakt and Experiment13. Then Google for the demo of Electopia. Then search this and the HD2 applications forum for the word "game" or "games" and you'll find plenty.

Goodbye Hermes!

Dear all,
I want to thank all of the developers that kept the dream alive of being able to use our outdated device in this time of snapdragons and WP7. We had a good ride but it is time to move on... Recently I got a HD2 and I am experimenting on that (still can't get used to the lack of a hardware keyboard...). My last rom on the hermes was from my fellow countryman Ansar and I have to say that, personally, it was the best rom I ever tried, if he ever makes a lite rom, I might go back to hermes
Have fun people, and keep the dream alive. The Hermes is hard toy to brake...
Thanks
Jardan
Well this is wierd
Im going from a Touch Pro 2 back to a hermes !! (made redundant dont keep the phone )
and my wife lost our HD2
So Hermes it is
Not really worried it almost seems faster than my TP2 !!!!!
If you want my opinion, try Ansar's rom. it was very fast and stable. But to tell you the truth, I can not compare it with HD2, it is much faster than the Hermes. And becasue I use the hermes as a backup phone, for my second sim, everytime I look at the screen nowdays, it looks soooo small and outdated... dont get me wrong, I loved my hermes but you just can't compare the two devices...
If you want I can exchange your TP2 for my hermes!
it was a work phone and i was made redundant
I was joking mate. Anyway, really you should try ansar's rom. have fun!
Is it possible for windows phone 7 OS to run on Hermes?
No, never.
But you can skin your screen as al lookalike WP7, like this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=649362
maybe six more WP7-UIs are available, PointUi, ThrottleLauncher, etc.
so sad
I continue to use my
I'm looking at replacing my hermes but not sure what to go for????
HD2 or TP2?????
Or other???
Which would you guys say??
Just wondering, who here uses Heremes over 4 years?

Start a poll to find out!
You can see how many threads there are which shows how many people are using the Hermes.
Ofcourse interest will decrease by time. I just purchased the Galaxy-S (android), but am still amazed but many features of the Hermes with winmo.
I've changed my phone since last spring, I needed a dual sim so I bought an Acer DX900, but sometimes I get out my hermes and I still play with it. I'll never sell it!

Planning on an HD2..

Hey guys, I am planning on getting an HD2, now that mango has been released.
Any reason why I shouldn't...?
Sent from my CM7 Atrix!
Why not get yourself a native WP7 device?
Same answer: Why don't you get a "new" device?
I have my HD2 for almost 2 years now, and it is getting tired... Less stable than it used to be, and I bought 2 sandisk sd cards (8GB and 16GB) to try to install WP7, but both didn't work. So waste of money!
If I were you, I would rather wait for new phones from nokia to show, and get one of these. And with an available sd slot if possible.
Well if you're looking to dual boot Android, and WP7 then the HTC HD2 is your man, however if you just want a WP7 then I would have to agree with the gentlemen above.
Reasons why you shouldn't buy an HD2? NONE.
The "new" devices offer little that the HD2 can't give you, and they're alot more expensive.
If you had asked reasons why you should get an HD2, you would have recieved hundreds of positive posts with almost nothing bad to say about it.
You want proof? Edit the question and wait.
And read this, it's . . . beautiful.

Exactly what this guy said! I've had mine for a couple of years & it runs BETTER than when I first got it, thanks to WP7 & Yuki, Xbmod, & DFT. I wouldn't replace it with anything on the current market. This phone is a BEAST!

ok although I agree the wp7 hd2 is great. There are more than a few things that aren't up to par.
-apps market ... Absolutely dreadful! (I highly doubt ANY disagreement there)
-in call volume ... (with/without speaker) VERY hard to hear!
-media sharing ... Better in Mango yet still lacks video sharing other than with YouTube
-multi touch ... Works but still buggy (don't count on a fix ... From my reading)
-battery life/accurate meter ... Acceptable but still =(
Etc etc etc
DONT get me wrong I love this baby ... Super quick, super beautiful, oh and you can totally put 3+ OS on here =D

I agree that the HD2 is a great product, but there is at least 1 reason to think about it before:
It is not an official WP7 hardware, sot it is not 100% compatible.
I am fighting to get WP working on my phone for a long time, and I am still unsuccessful to get it working well....
So if it is only for WP7, you should better get an official WP. If you want other systems as well... HD2 is great.

[Q] HTC done with the HD2?

A couple of days ago HTC removed the entire HD2 section from their Norwegian website. I am linking to some of their support articles on my website and got a message about broken links. I went to htc.com/no (norwegian site) to investigate, and ALL info about the HD2 is GONE. NO support, downloads, accessory shop, nothing.
Does this mean that the HD2 is now officially abandoned by HTC?
the question is, do we need their support? i mean we got dev's who have been far greater at supporting the hd2 then htc ever was. n as for accessories, there are more then many 3rd parties providing that! so cheer up, n enjoy the glorious life of the great hd2~
Gone from the UK site as well so it seems we are (still) on our own
We are only now
But Hd2 isn't done with Htc
US Version Still Available
I went to www.htc.com, and typed in HD2 in the search box. I got a link that took me to the HD2 pages. I could even search for T-Mobile stores in my area. Whether they still have any HD2 phones for sale is another matter. I doubt HTC is manufacturing any more HD2s. Once stock is gone, that will be it except for the secondary market for used HD2s.
Help pages still exist for the UK section of the site http://www.htc.com/uk/help/htc-hd2/index.page?
Haven't seen anything about ROM updates though, which I swear there used to be
hd2
in israel to bat i love my hd2 and xda thenx mate's

HTC was done with HD2 a year ago.
HD2 is my first contact with HTC and I personaly feel betrayed by them.
As far as HTC is concerned HD2 has been terrible experience. About 3-4 months after I bought HD2 last update came from htc and so before half of my warranty time expired HD2 was considered absolete by both MS and HTC. If I had to use WinMo all this time I would replace this phone long time ago.
Few days ago I sent HD2 to authorized service to replace HW buttons and they wanted to replace keyboard flat cable, PBA (not sure what it is...my guess was the board) and something that holds screen. Price for repair was 290 euros!!!
I just paid them for diagnostics and left by mentaly gaving them the finger.
When I asked them why they need to replace entire phone just because flat cable is broken, their response is that htc policy is that they have to return the phone to me in factory condition....also they noted that I am using unauthorized OS
My next contract is open in may....and from this point I dont think it is going to be a htc phone....but I will see then.
Devs on XDA are the one that made it great. And I consider them as only support HD2 had for my time of using this phone.
I had (and still having) so much fun using Android on it. I am forever greatfull to any dev and users who contributed to changing my experience from high-powered phone with crappy and absolutete OS to a great android experience.
I think that the better question we should ask and fear is "When the developers are going to be done with HD2".....

Agree 100%
NAND android still seems very popular, and WP7.5 is too.
Hopefully DFT will bring out magldr 1.14 soon, possibly enabling better linux support.
Which may re-kindle interest in porting linux flavours to HD2.
There are still a lot of HD2s out there combined with the fact that there does not seem to be a nailed-on mod-able replacement around (for me ATM), indicates that HD2 development should continue for a while yet.

I sincerely hope you are right.
I am little sceptic if we will ever see another magldr update and personaly I would prefer rmnet support for cLK more.
Development on HD2 has a lot of space for improving, but most of it is probably wont be finished because of HD2 not being native android device and has radio that is designed to work with windows environment and it is hard to make it work as good as it could get.
I installed CM7 on a friends Galaxy Ace yesterday, which is lower device then HD2 but in many areas work a lot better, like smooth touch, real dual touch, camcorder that records in more than 15-20 fps......
If only htc would help us by providing another radio everything would change for HD2 I guess. But that aint happening.
Last chance have lots of inquiries!

Of course they'd fine you the price of repairs, you have voided the warranty.
You should have removed HSPL from your device and put back the original, it isn't HTC's fault .
