stock charger is not good - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been reading a lot of problems which are probably caused by the stock charger. At first weeks, it charged slow, then normal, then fast and now this: (attachment).
I have no problem at all with my old blackberry standard charger, I won't use the stock again, since I've read like 2-3 threads that it may cause the red light brick, plus that noisy buzz.
Could it be a batch of defective stock chargers?

I would like to know if there is an manufacturing issue involved, for example, only devices made on Hong Kong on dates from 0ct to nov on 2012 are failing. (Im randomly throwing dates and countrys)

All my charging problems gone when I replaced the stock USB cable with another one. It worth the try.

Well, I,m a bit deaf so I can't assure if it buzzs or no... but at least it takes less time to charge, so who knows...

I bought the original LG nexus 4 car charger (charges as AC) and for home I'll use my blackberry..

My Note stopped charging! Advice please?

Anybody ever hear of this?
Started intermittently charge/stop charging.. Then just stopped.
Rebooted? Nothing.
I have an extra battery...tried that....same thing!
Finally I wiped everything and it charged again...all night (thank God... I was at 15%)
BUT....checked just a bit ago and it was intemittently charging and stopping again...now I'm back to no charging. WTF....lol.
Only other info I can offer is the that at times I've used a second nonNote android charger (meant for my hotspot device...that does output to 1.2 but I don't think that would do anything..I used it on my Galaxy 2 Touch for months.
If anyone can give any insights I'd greatly appreciate.
I cannot charge my Note at all rights now.
Have you tried a different charger and/or USB cable?
Regards,
Dave
Thanks...yeah 2 different chargers. USB...you mean charging via PC right? You know i haven't tried it believe it or not!
I'm sure i could wipe everything again and it'd work again..but...big pain!
Right now I have to wall charge the battery itself.
Hey OP, any updates on this??
After I flashed Abyss 2.5 on top of Cassie's V3 on my Note a few days ago it started doing the charge/stop status and I could ONLY charge it while off and even sometimes it was awakening it self up!! And finally it gave up to no charge at all.
As from yesterday is officially "dead" since no recovery/download mode can be entered because of low battery. "Download" mode say's too low battery and it can't download.
Hey guys I really need some help on this. NO external battery chargers are available to try and no one I know has another Note to ask to charge my battery..
What do you thing? Faulty hardware/micro-usb port or something? I'm NOT blaming anyone since it's not a widespread issue but this DID happened ONLY after flashing Abyss 2.5 from CF KKA.
Thank you for your help guys in advance. Please let's try and resurrect my NOTE!
P.S: Also I forgot to add that immediately after flashing Abyss 2.5 I lost USB functionality in any way while power on.
I also tried:
3-4 different wall sockets.
2 different working cables. Original and one SE brand. Both working on other devices.
Tried removing battery MANY times.. left from 20sec to 1-5minutes etc(despair yeah).
PLEASE any info/help would be GREATLY appreciated..

And risk of having my 2year warranty thrown because of root or custom rom which they can blame for my problem? I think otherwise.
When I manage to charge the battery I might put everything back to stock and take it for a check if the problems continue.
Btw, you response: "...Instead of asking people here..." got me thinking a bit.. It should made you think a bit too.. Why?
Because 95% of your problems can be solve from online research. Relatively speaking of course. The ONLY times I couldn't fix something by my self(speaking for electronics, but can be applied on many other different occasions) was because of soldering needs which then I have a certified friend with good soldering skills and he does the job for me..
Example: One Acer 7736Z I was repairing had a blown/dead power ic chip. I ordered it, my friend soldered it since I never messed with soldering and all good. Done.
Another example: I have a Sammy 59D550. I had some problems.. Should I every time that I have a problem find a car to transfer it to the repair center/shop or do some research online which in the end I fixed my problem with a simple firmware update..? I prefer the latter.
Please excuse the comment, I meant it in a more generalized way, not directly to you, but that "...Instead of asking people here..." got me a bit going. No offense meant.

A little update on my "situation".. Phone is charging and ALL thanks to ephestione. Also I followed the video below and did exactly on my note and it's charging as we speak..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pYcgmLhUcQ
Procedure: As it might help future visitors.
I cut a mini usb since as I have many spare.
Attached only the red(positive)/black(negative) wires to the phone's corresponding battery pin.
Forced the battery in to secure a good grip between them.
Connected the other normal USB end plug to my Note's original Samsung USD charger.
Phone is successfully charging for now.
I believe what I did was wipe all and reflash, ...and all was well.
I have found my Note and SGS2 to be pretty sensitive to chargers. What do you mean outputs to 1.2? You need it to output at least 800mah, probably 1000mah. I would expect the Note to draw more power than the SGS2 but I'm not sure. I bought a Rocket Fish (good quality usually) charger from Best Buy. It didn't even say on the box but output only 600mah and the phone acted just like you are saying.
One charger I bought from Walmart, if I plug it in the TOUCH SCREEN STOPS WORKING!! Crazy!
I have had good luck with blackberry chargers. Make sure the USB cable you use is good also. I have had some that worked great with other phones and not with Galaxy phones, even some that worked great with my SGS2 don't work so good with my Note.
wipe battery stats
i reckon you hard reset and stick to OEM batteries, and buy an external charger on ebay!
I am also having a charging problem but it is because any charger that I plug in is loose in the phone and only having it in the right position works. I have tried many different chargers but my port on the phone is just too loose. How do I get it to a Samsung repair shop? I called samsung and they told me they only fix phones that are ment for the US and my phone is an international version.

Unfortunately, Samsung does not service international note in the states. They do not train as their product is not officially sold.

So am I just out of luck getting my charging port fixed?
My note did the same thing. I took some compressed air and sprayed the micro usb charge port with it a few times. Worked like a charm. Remember if any of the pins don't make contact then it wont charge.
Know this might sound goofy but same thing happen to me.
2 things that im pretty sure in some combo, was the issue
1. USB port got dirt/debris
2. The kernel I was running. Im 99% sure this was the issue all along. I was running abyss or something like that.

Nexus 4 charging issue and wireless charging

So I've had my Nexus 4 for a couple months now and I've taken really good care of it. It's pretty mint. But today it refuses to charge and I have a phone interview for a job on Thursday and I really need this little guy to work. I have CM 10.1 and thought maybe it could be related to that in some way. Maybe it's just kinda glicthy right now? But the last time I was using the phone it died and I put it on the charger and an hour later it wouldn't turn on. I've tried 3 different chargers and none of them give me the little battery charging image or light up my LED notification light. Any troubleshooting ideas? If not, can anyone recommend a cheap wireless charger that works very well? Thanks for your help in advance, I really need to get my phone working immediately.

what other chargers do you have at your disposal? Ideally you should use one with a rating of minimum of 1 amp. The stock charger is rated at 1.2 amps. For your case, if the 1 amp charger doesn't work, try a 1.5 or 2 amp charger for 30 minutes or so. See if that works.

Battery doesn't charge until 100%

Hi!
I recently bougth a 1+5, I decided to charge it, but after one hour I see that the battery hasn't charged fully(only until 84%), I waited for minutes and I realized that the phone didn't recognize the charging mode.
I have charged many times but it only charge until 82-85% and I have to complete the 100% via USB.
Does anybody has the same problem and if it has, how could you solved it?
Thanks!

Yikes. Sounds like a bad charging brick or a bad OP5.
Have you tried using different chargers and cables?
Next option would to be to try another factory reset, re install Oxygen, or try a custom ROM of your choice. (I recommend Pure Fusion).
If you really like Oxygen, and you can't fix it, you should probably try to contact OP support about it.

Thanks, I sent an email to OnePlus support.
Same problem, OP5 bought from gearbest. it seems a defective charger (SHENZHEN HUNTKEY model).
I can't post any links but search on the official Oneplus Forum with "dash charging stop after 83-85%"
After opening a case, GearBest refunded me 30 USD.
Yes, lots of people got this problem and the cause is a bad charger. Try to charge the phone with regular charger and it probably go to 100%. If not it could be a phone problem. I got 2 dash chargers and one of them is doing that.
If you can complete the charge to 100% via USB, that tells me it's more likely a defective charging brick/cable rather than the device itself. OP support should provide a replacement for something like that.
I have exact same problem with dash charger and when i switch to any other charger it charges all the way to 100%. So i contact Honorbuy (where i bought the phone) and they will send me another dash charger.

X720 Reliability, how bad is it?

I been thinking about getting this but amazon is full of reviews from people saying it only lasted a month, battery bulged and broke the screen, one guy saying he's on his third replacement, another about how it died and burned his USB cables, etc
Is it that bad? did anyone here got some serious hardware problems with this phone?
This is my first Android phone i have had zero hardware problems, had it over a year now. It was out of commission for 3 months because of a boot loop, but that was my fault, not installing a new Rom correctly. Currently running TURBO's MIAU Destroyer V12 not a single hiccup in 6 months.

Did you try official lineage? how did it go?
If you think its bad why even thinking of buying it? million of phones out there
I have X720 over 6 months it work well. I been flashing everything stock rom, Aicp, Omni, Turbo roms, Tora33 rom and more. Still use it everyday. If you know what you doing with your own it should be fine.
The thing is the Lineage Nougat family rom (non stock) maybe only few of them that work well for example I found AICP Nougat pretty good, I heard good things about Lineage but haven't really try it. You need 1-2 good rom and stick with it should be best.

correction: If you know what you doing with your phone it should be fine.
I've had two.
The fingerprint reader stopped working on the first after one week.
The second has been working fine so far for the last four months.
I have had 727 with no problems at all and I have tried every rom and best results have been 21s stock remove bunch of junk.
Runs perfect.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I already tried the latest stock rom.
The fingerprint reader was working and then suddenly stopped working (LineageOS is installed on the phone), so I assume it's the fingerprint reader that has failed.
If you had asked me a few days ago, I would have said that it's the best phone I have ever owned. The battery last for me 3 days, with 7h SOT on average. I had zero issues ever since I bought it begining of 2017 on sold.
But yesterday, with absolutely no reason at all, when I plugged the cable for charging (original LEECO cable and charger), the USB-C port just burned. It was very fast, as soon as I plugged it, I smelled burn odour. I unplugged, the USB port was hot with burn marks. I tried another cable, burned like the first one.
I have now a phone with less than 15% of battery I cannot recharge anymore. It will go in the trash as soon as I used the remaining battery to retrieve all my data by wifi because there is no aftersale for LEECO anymore. It's a real shame, the phone was really great to use.
I looked over the internet, several people seem to have similar issues lately with this phone. Looks like a hardware problem that just started to appear lately on several devices. Maybe a wrong batch of phones, but it's 300€ for a few month of use only.

Yeah, I can confirm that there are problems with a batch LEX720. My device died while trying to recharge. I plugged in the orginal cable for charging, the device went off and could not be started anymore. Now I am annoyed about the Banggood support. It is really a great device, but not if it only lasts 2 months!
It's sad to hear about your devices dying while charging.
I didn't trust the original cable or the charger. First thing I did was buy a trusted USB A charger, and 56k Ohm USB A to C cable.
It really is an amazing phone (when used with a custom rom) when it works.

Don't use the stock cable, I doubt it's Benson approved or even safe for non-China use. Use a USB-C cable approved by Benson Leung, a Google engineer. Like the stock Google Pixel cable.
USB-C to USB-A has a lot of issues. Many cables aren't made to spec, and can cause fires if you're not careful. Stop using the LeEco stock cable and buy a better one from a reputable brand!
I have 3 LeEco phones, Le Max2 x829, LE Pro3 x720 and Le Pro3 Elite x722, All of them I always use charger and cable that come with the phone. I never have any problem. I sold the Le Max2 recently which was work perfect.
I'm a little scared to use the original charger and cable after reading the horror stories I'll probably start off with my old Nexus 6p charger and cable until I can find a good third party charger and cable!

Before I have Lg V20 use its charger to charge LeEco phones too which work fine without problem. Lg quick charger come with a thick strong cable.

LeEco quick charger come with skinny cable compare to Lg cable.
Got 2 leecos in the house for over a year. The original lead for my pro3 went bad not long ago, where it would keep stopping charging, the charger and the charger and lead for the max 2 are fine though.
Seems it maybe worth buying a lead at least, if your worried.
i replaced the original usb c cable with an ebay one, then it has been working fine for just over a year. great phone. never give any problems.
The stock charger can burn the USB port, which might be a fire hazard. I wouldn't use it personally even if it hasn't happened to you yet. I use my Kindle Fire's wallplug, and Suaoki type C cable. It's cheap and Benson approved.

I've had mine since November of 2016, so a little over a year. None of these issues have popped up. Now, a broken screen can occur to any phone if you drop it. I haven't read the reviews, so not sure about the context.
Other than that my experience has been good, especially as someone coming from the LG G4 (boot looped). Battery life is back to the LG G2 days, so I get well over 6 SOT, and can easily hit 8-9. On wifi battery life is crazy as well.

May 2019 Update: Very Slow Charging Pixel 2 XL

Ever since installing the May 2019 update:
Charging is very very slow with any USB C-A cables/adapters. On Ampere I get less then 200 mA. Sometimes less than 100 mA. So the phone consistently loses power even connected to the charger.
Previously (on April update) last month, I would get over 1000 mA with the same cables and charger. I've tried multiple cables without success.
The stock Google USB C brick and charger DO work to fast charge. However many times the charging does not work at all. I have to then reverse the USB-C cable (turn it to the other end) and then it starts to charge.
I've tried cleaning the USB-C port and taken out the lint. I've also reflashed the May update a couple of times, without any progress.
Anyone have any pointers? Has the phone suddenly gone bad? Do I need to RMA or is there a software fix for this?
Thanks in advance.
Maybe it's your cable man.. You need to try other chargers or cables. I don't think so any phone will behave like this based on software changes because it's not a known issue and when i was in the may security patch it worked fine.
Thanks

Thank you for replying. I tried extensively and only the USB C to USB C stock google cables with their PD charger works.
All other USB-C cables from Anker, Aukey or other good brands - charge very very slowly.
If you don't mind, could you please tell me what cables you use to charge your phone? It's funny but everything was fine before I upgraded to the May update, the same cables used to work fine.

Thanks for confirming. What cables do you use (other than the one that came with the phone from Google?).
The trouble is that this wasn't a problem with the April security patch. All of my cables used to charge fine, it suddenly seemed to have happened after installing the May patch. Or maybe my phone is fried.
I've always used the original came...
If you have switched cables..i suggested you to charge your phone on safe mode. This will eliminate a lot of stuff.
I hope you know how to go to safe mode

I'll also try to downgrade to the April security patch and see if anything changes. It's just weird. In the past, I could use any cable and it would all be perfect. Now it's become a pain.
Sometimes the phone doesn't charge and have to reverse the cable or turn it upside down. Or start-stop the phone.

My first post, but I thought I'd add in my 2 cents. My 2xl has been losing battery charge faster than ever and charging extremely slow since around the beginning of May too. I run, stock rooted with Magisk, and the last Flash kernal. However I have not updated the OS in about a year. (Don't ask) the only thing that changes is app updates. I generally update those as needed. Aside from from basic user apps Google does make changes sometimes that effect my performance. I can't say for sure what cause the change, but the big major changes I did make was updating to the latest stable Magisk manager. Around then is when I noticed the bad charging and battery performance. Yes I know MM isn't supposed to do that, but that's when I noticed. Since I'm not on the May update, I'm taking a guess it's something Google did.. IDK

Have the same issue, tried several different cables and charging bricks. I've got usb charging meter, It always charges from one side of the type c with 1+ apm and 0.1 amp from other side.
Mine's similar. Sometimes charges fast, sometimes too slow to top up battery, sometimes not at all. I reckon it's the port on the phone. Now looking for a new phone and it won't be a Pixel!
