80% of the time I can slide the padlock to unlock my phone but sometimes it doesn't and I have to turn the phone screen off and back on for it to work again. I have the same problem if I change it to a password or pin.
Any ideas? Apart from this the screen works great..
Cheers.
I also in your situation, hope someone will post a fix

Sorry to hear it does it to you too, but kinda glad its not just me! Hopefully there is a fix. :s
I want to root my phone, but don't want to risk mucking up warranty if I had to send it back so would like to either fix this/send it back.
I started to have the same issue yesterday....
I think it should be an update or something on the Market..
For me..it's completely random....70% of the times i unlock the N4..runs 100% smooth.
When i have this problem...i just press "Recent Apps" button and it's very laggy. (Latest attempt to fix this i made 20 minutes ago: Force-Reboot + disable and re-enable developers options & gpu rendering & CPU monitoring).
edit: i think the problem could be SuperSu...the update i received today said something about
What's in this version:
Hopefully the last update for a while, all freezes and crashes from 1.00 fixed ?

Hi everyone, I just purchased 2 HTC HD2 phones from T-mobile 5 days ago and every thing was fine until 2 days ago. The phone that is mine started to freeze on the unlock screen / slide button, will not unlock all the time, sometimes it does sometime it doesn't. I have to remove the battery and reset to unlock. Both phones came with the same firmware version 2.13.531.1 but only my phone freezes and not my wifes. I read in the T-Mobile forums that, the latest update would fix my issue. So I update my firmware to the latest version (actually reinstalled latest version as it was already installed on phone, to see if that would fix issue) 2.13.531.1, to fix unlocking issues in the lock screen. But after updating several times and trying almost every thing I have read about in this forum and HTC's forum, like disabling sensing and cleaning the RAM removing locations from weather app and permanently deleting all text messages and emails, and disable autolock with cab file, Nothing has worked. I have 2 HTC HD2 but only 1 freezes. They both have the same firmware version 2.13.531.1. The only work around I have found is to deactivate automatic shut down in the settings menu to keep the phone from locking automatically sense it only freeze at the unlock screen/slide button. How ever this drains my battery alot faster because the screen only dims but never shuts off and its not a real fix to the issue. If anyone knows of a real fix please post here will I check again for any knew posts......................Thank you .
It might just be a defective phone.
I for one started on the (i believe its 2.10) firmware & then upgrade to the 2.13....HATED IT. They 2.13 which was supposed to "fix" certain bugs seemed to make mines worst so i reinstalled the original 2.10.
Im not sure if they do handset trade where you are, you could call the store and find out, if not, you could always downgrade the software to see if it works, or just flash a custom ROM....
Or wait on hole for a TMO rep and see if they can just send you a replacement (once you got through a bunch of troubleshooting that most likely wont work).
Good LUCK!
mine also freezes on the lock screen, is there a way to deactivate the lock screen during standby?

everythign has been working flawlessly for a month until a few days ago when i noticed that my phone will not respond once i get to the lockscreen to access my phone again. In the beginning it would work after couple of times of me pressing on the end button to turn the screen off and on but now the problem has become more serious when i have to try almost a minute for the lockscreen to unlock.
the funny thing is once i get the lockscreen to respond and unlock the phone works flawlessly. soon as i press the power/end button again and put it in my pocket and take it back out to use my phone, the phone fail to unlock the lockscreen. I know that the process of the phone is working because i can see the time chance and battery percentage and reception work. can anyone shine light to this situation?
Anyone ?

ive not used a MIUI rom but disabling Compatibility Mode in Spare Parts has helped myself and others with very similar/exact problem.
good luck
My device constantly freezes when I try to unlock it. The lock screen comes up when I push the power button and it's randomly completely non-responsive. I will lock the screen again with the power button and repeat the process and it will then work.
Anyone else having this problem on their Nexus 4?
I've tried disabling lock screen widgets with no help. All I am left to wonder is whether it's from an application I've installed.
If I want to completely reset the phone and remove any fragments of old applications, is doing a factory reset enough to get this done?

I spoke too soon. My phone just locked up while in a deep sleep overnight. I had to Power + vol down to restart it.
+1 . Mine generally freezes overnight. When I got to unlock my nexus 4 to check the time I find the phone frozen on the lock screen then the phone reboots itself. I did a factory restore, did a factory re-flash, and nothing seems to help. Today I shut off google now to see if that was the issue. Reading through various threads it seems the problem is widespread and across multiple nexus devices including the nexus 7 and galaxy nexus. This gives me some faith that the phone itself maybe fine. Google please fix ASAP. I need my alarm in the morning, not a frozen phone. :crying:

Just to add, I did a bug report and called tech support. Nothing I mentioned seemed like news to my tech nor did he have any recommendation other then to RMA. I told him I would give the phone another week to see if anything improves its stability. I still have my Gnex as a backup. I have not noticed any issues with 4.2 on my Gnex but then again it's been in my backpack since my nexus 4 arrived. Perhaps I will leave my Gnex on as we'll to see if I run into any issues with it.
Lock screen freezes once or twice every day, the fix is easy, just press the sleep button again, but its still annoying. 4.2 has pretty bad quality control.
i had the same issue on my old N4. Especially when i got incoming call, lock screen freezes all the time
I will get replacement tho..

I had the same issue. Seemed to be related coming out of the lockscreen after having done some BT music playback. Anyway, I had this "lockscreen widget disable" app installed. Removed it again, and now I have not had any lockups in the last 3 days.
I'm glad to know I'm not alone here. I did a full reset and I still have the problem. I get a lock 4-5 times a day.
I do use bluetooth and google music...
Knowing other people are having this issue really makes me think it's software and not hardware.
i notice that when mine freezes on the lock screen, [i use a pattern], that pressing the power button to turn the screen off then back on solves the problem.

This is the only disappointment for me, having to press the power button a few times in order to unlock this damn phone.
Power to turn screen on, frozen touch, power to turn screen off, power to turn it on again and the it registered touch.
I am surprise not many have this problem.
A friend of mine ordered at the same time as I did, and does not have this problem.
Feels so stupid having to turn the screen on and off a couple of times to get into the homescreen.
Especially when friends asked to play with the phone and the damn thing wont unlock, and I have to explain to them the process of unlocking the phone.
I want to rma, but shoot, might not get a replacement till next year.

RMA won't help a software defect, which it is 100%, it's freaking annoying and makes me think google literally makes the phones and never uses it to see if it has any bugs.
Same problem here. So it is hardware related?!

Never had one, probably a rogue app.
You might have 3rd party application on the lock screen that does this?

I think I've had it happen 2 or 3 times so far. I don't think it's hardware related, it seems to be software to me.
I figured out the first time it happened, if I grab and slide up to launch Google Now, it lets me unlock it. So it definitely isn't hardware, as it is registering touches.
Hi guys,
Anyone encountered your Note 3 hanged and you unable to swipe or press the back button.
The only way to swipe again is to press off and on and you be able to do that.
My phone is brand new and even after I factory reset it still hanged.
Same Hangups with me
The same happens to me with an unchanged Note 3 9005, Vodafone Germany branded; Suddenly the especially the screen freezes.
some buttons still work. Sometimes it works again, sometimes only a reboote works.

Yes, same problem here with a completely stock and non-rooted international (Germany) Note 3. I have had the device now for a little over a week, and the problem occurs quite frequently several times a day. Very annoying, so any fix would be VERY appreciated!
German Unbranded LTE... Apex Launcher, no such issue so far.
Try cleaning your system cache in Recovery.
I get the same problem.
No response to back, menu, home or power button.
If I wait about 10-20 seconds, it will start responding again.

I tried this yesterday, but I'm afraid it didn't fix the problem. A couple of hours after cleaning the cache partition I got the next hang.
I gave up on this and decided to ask for a replacement phone. Bummer.

My non-rooted N9005 crashed several times as described below. However I can't replicate them on purpose. It just happened randomly.
On boot-up, when the lockscreen is shown, the device keeps restarting on its on, non-stop. To resolve, I'll need to quickly unlock the phone when the lockscreen is shown. Sometimes it would just keep restarting before the locksreen is shown. When this happens, I'll need to remove the SIM card and the phone would start normally. Then turn it off, reinsert the SIM card, boot-up and quickly unlock the lockscreen. This occurs randomly, but when it occurs, the would keep restarting. Else, phone would boot-up with no issue.
Recorded a video and stopped the recording. Camera hang. From then onwards, can't use camera until reboot.
Enabled the "one-handed operation - use for all screens". Switched to one-handed mode. Not sure what happened, but camera was started when I exit camera, screen is reverted to fullscreen. It should remain in "one-handed" mode. Touch responded to area where the "one-handed operation" window should be. No response to area outside this area. To resolve, re-enter "one-handed" mode and exit.
Phone just hang when games are started which the audio loop playing repeatingly.
My Note3 got hang when I was using facebook...
I m curious it related with RAM... when I check the RAM (after it responds again) it was 2,4 GB of 2,66 (max available)..
After I clear the Memory, then problem stops...
Same issue here..
i'll be scrolling facebook or browsing and i cannot click on links or scroll
weird thing is i can press the back button to close the app or the home button..
there are some other major glitches as well such as Gallery opening VERY SLOWLY.. quick pic is my work around..
waking up the phone with the power button takes longer then expected as well..
coming from a Z10 with less specs and listening to people bash it.. the 3GB quadcore Snapdragon 800 chip with 4.3 jelly bean is deeming to be disappointing..
don't get me wrong i love the device.. just didn't expect so many glithces and slow downs and hangups
Same issue on exynos.

I tried something new today, I've been clearing the Ram memory every 15-30 minutes of constant usage and every time I start using the phone and it seems that I haven't had that problem yet. Makes me think it is related to a process.

Hi everyone!
So I just had this problem after I woke up yesterday. I googled a lot but only found similiar problems.
Let me tell you what happened chronologically:
After turning the phone on in the morning it started updating apps as if I was doing a firmware update: "updating apps 1 of 135" etc. Note that my nexus was already running on 5.1.1 and had the latest updates installed.
Now it randomly freezes the screen on whatever screen it was before it happens and it won't respond to any touch input. This can also happen when not using the phone, then it will freeze at the lockscreen (the time freezes with it so sometimes i can see at what time it froze). Also, it loses connection with Wi-Fi as i'm using Whatsapp Desktop when i'm on my laptop and it mentions me that my phone is not connected.
The only thing that "fixes" (temporarily) it is a reboot. Now sometimes, on the lockscreen, i can just hold the power button and the pop-up comes in to turn the phone of, which i can somehow just tap on an it responds by turning the phone off. But sometimes (less frequent than the latter mentioned) the pop-up doesn't come in and holding the power button for a few secs will do the trick.
I hope I informed you all enough and my end question is: does any of you know what this is? How i can fix it or what i can do to prevent it or anything as I am hopeless. (my G3 is up for reparation so this is my sisters old phone, i had a nexus 4 myself for 2 years before the G3).
Thanks in advance!!
The best way to test it is by reformat the OS.
I positively think that it will solve the problem.
Since the phone is no longer under warranty, I guess there is no harm to install custom rom on it. They are fast and stable too.
Hope this help. Good luck.

EXACT thing happened to me too. Backup your data and hard reset from recovery. This fixed it for me
