Hey guys,
This is something I observed over time, however to make it even more sure, I'd like to ask you all -
I've noticed that when an app, like Whatsapp is stored in the internal memory, it launches on its own after a reboot. I mean, I don't really need to open it first in order to get notifications/messages.
However, I've also noticed that If I move Whatsapp to my SD card, it will not run on its own after a reboot. If I don't open the app myself, I'll never get notified for new messages. Is this what you guys experience as well?
I found a solution on this forum.. Link2SD where you can create a partition on your SD card which can act as internal memory. If anyone if you have tried this, do the apps work normally (the ones in the partition) just like the apps in the internal memory?
If I put whatsapp in the partitioned space of SD card, I'd expect it to launch on its own, just like Facebook does, automatically after I reboot the device.
Look for the guide - 'link2sd for dummies' in general board by Carl - it should help you better understand things

It doesn't matter where the apps are stored they'll startup never the less it will just start later if stored on your sd card the only thing i can think of is that ur ram is overloaded as to many apps start at boot so apps on ur sd card which boot up after internal apps don't have "room" to startup as ur internal apps are hogging space if that's it then click on here in my Sig and look at the part on startup manger and app quarantine

Hi all,
I'm about to root and install CM7 in my Nook color by following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030227
As I have no microSD adapter, I've just wrote an image on the card while it was still in the Nook. (Just plug it in and start the process) after it finished, I unplugged it, turned it off and then on again but my Nook just booted normally, not from the SD like it should. Then I checked from the settings page and I found this:

Did I just write an image on the internal memory?!?! I hope not but it seems like I did (?) It can't be right? I had 5GB of memory size showed before but now just 898MB. My SD is 1GB of size.
Please help. Thanks.

Seriously, you amaze me.
Firstly, "I have no microSD adapter" = that's bad, you better get one and a computer.
Secondly, "I've just wrote an image on the card while it was still in the Nook." = that must be a very new technique, you might want to show us how you write an image on the NOOK.
Thirdly, "(Just plug it in and start the process)" = what's "the process"
Fourthly, "after it finished, I unplugged it, turned it off and then on again but my Nook just booted normally, not from the SD like it should." = you said you unplugged, I assume you meant removing the uSD off the NOOK, then how would you possibly expect CM7 booting from the uSD? You drive me in a maze.
Do explain a bit clearer.
if you have a blue dot nook, you have a 5gb system and 1 gb "storage" partition. This _MIGHT_ be normal for you.
I suspect this:

and that the image write to the SD card simply failed. You will probably need a card reader and possibly EASEUS Partition Manager (if you scrambled the card badly enough) and/or a fresh SD card to proceed. I was able to write the initial image I used to SD using the NC as my card reader, but I've seen wikis saying you're taking a chance doing it that way.
It might be worthwhile to try inserting the card at different times (after OS is fully started up, after reboot but before OS has fully loaded) to see if you can get the NC to recognize it, which might get you a second chance at writing the image. Most likely, though, you've scrambled the card good and will be lucky to even get a PC to recognize it in a proper card reader.
I doubt you did anything at all to the NC itself.

So first of all, don't panic. It's going to be just fine.
Second-- is your stock system rooted? If so, I think it would still be possible to install CM7 but perhaps not easy for a beginner.
Since you are a beginner, I might point out that the microSD adapters are about $6. You really have no excuse not to have one.

I'm not at all familiar with stock or the partitioning, but you are doing this wrong. You haven't hurt anything permanently, so relax, but I would follow the standard procedures until such a time as you have mastered it before you start improvising.
Just a friendly suggestion.
Ha ha.votinh....I'm sorry but that reply was classic.
Hi,
My phone is Samsung Galaxy Y S5360. Its internal memory is only 190 MB. So, installing new apps (especially a little heavy ones) is very difficult. Also, installing new apps slows down performance (RAM = 290MB).
Is there a way to install new apps only on the sd card & nothing on phone memory?
I have already made SD Card as default storage but some part of new apps gets installed in phone memory too (Package = code + data), can't this be changed & only SD card memory used?
Is there a way to improve RAM performance?
Or do I have to go for a new phone?
Regards,
Chaitanya
I have done the following:
1. Rooted the phone with update.zip.
2. Have downloaded Link2SD app & given it superuser permissions.
I tried moving default Maps app but it showed the following error:
"pkg: /data/app/com.google.android.apps.maps-1.apk Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_INVALID_INSTALL_LOCATION]"
I want to move this, as well as other heavy system apps like Play Store to my Samsung 8GB SD Card.
Please , help .
Yes there is what you'll need to do is root and a partitioned your sd and use link2sd to link apps to your sd card

Hello, is the SD card slot placed on top of the battery in such a way that you can't access it without shutting down the phone still?
It's really a precaution. If you remove a card without un mounting it or turning the phone off you could corrupt the data

Plenty off "dumbphones" can handle SD card unmounting, why can't "smartphones"?
I had a w910i, never got corrupted SD card and I removed my SD card often, without doing any unmouting beforehand.

Just go to settings > storage, and hit unmount SD card. It's just with a smartphone its constantly reading / writing from there so it's just a precaution.
Obviously it's a good precaution.

I don't need Samsung's "precautions" if I can unmout it from the OS like you just described. This is just stupid design.
Don't you want to be able to change SD card without having to shut down your phone?
I have a 64 gb card, I don't swap it so it really doesn't matter to me.

Just because you have no use for something doesn't mean others do.
Hi all,
This is my first post on this forum, after reading it for a while now.
My P8Lite is driving me mad. I keep getting " This device doesn't have enough space" messages whenever I download or update apps.
I have a 16G SDcard installed and selected the SD card as default installation location.
That doesn't seen to have any effect, because I still have to move recently installed apps to the SD by hand.
At this moment, my internal memory is at 89%, and the SD card at 7% and I can not update my apps.
The phone is rooted, and I am using EMUI 3.1.
I haven't tot a clue how to resolve this, maybe someone else that had an idea?
Thanx in advance.
@d.
How much system storage do you actually have on the device (Settings > About Phone > Phone Storage)?
It should be ~10GB.
If not and it's 2.5GB, back-up all your data and reset the device to restore the lost 7.5GB of storage.
This occurs when installing a new ROM; ALWAYS reset the system after installing a new ROM (you may have to set-up the device first).
You selected the SD card as the default installation location, but did you move the largest apps to the SD card after you did this?
If not, do so and you'll re-gain some of your space.
With system storage running out, you'll also find that other stuff stops working such as email fetch and push.
Hi,
According to the RAM value I have 2G of internal storage.
What do you mean with resetting the phone? I guess it's not juist a reset with the power button?

Please provide the value of the internal storage.
RAM is completely different to internal storage.
You can find it in Settings > About Phone > Phone Storage:

Hi,
Please tel me what you ment by resetting the phone. I rebooted it a couple of times, without result.
Did you mean a reinstall?
My Moto X Pure (2015) keeps on losing storage space. I've reformatted the phone twice now and it always happens.
15gb - Total storage
6.5gb - Android OS
9.5gb - internal storage for everything else
Right now it says I've used 8.59 of the 9.5 gb. I can't install any more apps because of "insufficient storage". However the main problem is that I'm actually only using 4.5gb with the apps/cached data/ etc. Where did the other 4gb go? I've already tried to boot into recovery and delete the cache there.

Nope. My phone is practically unusable because of this as I can only add a handful of apps before it runs out of space.

Ah, I was referring to backups done in recovery (nandroids).
The other potential culprit is app data. Game saves and per-app cached/temp files, things like that... but you couldn't even check that unless you're rooted. I lost 14gb on one of my nexus devices once and it was a combination of nandroid backups and miscellaneous app data.
Yeah, there is something weird here. I intend to root mine, and will attempt to figure this out. It seems to me like it may be related to the MM upgrade. I just have to wait until I get back from a trip.
Have any of u figure it out where is the space going? cause i just bought this phone 1gb model and im using like 6gb but it says im using 8.30gb so i have 2 gb missing somewhere and i havent been able to figure it out where... i tried formating cache but still the same :S tried a google search but no solution ether
***UPDATE***
I found the missing space, im guessing thats a new feature on the phone that some things r hidden in the memory for some reason in my case it was the nandroid backup, those were the 2 gb missing that i wasnt able to free, i had to root my phone, then go to /data/media/0 to be able to see it and there it was lol
