Should I be panicked about this? - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I'm about to root and install CM7 in my Nook color by following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030227
As I have no microSD adapter, I've just wrote an image on the card while it was still in the Nook. (Just plug it in and start the process) after it finished, I unplugged it, turned it off and then on again but my Nook just booted normally, not from the SD like it should. Then I checked from the settings page and I found this:

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

}
Did I just write an image on the internal memory?!?! I hope not but it seems like I did (?) It can't be right? I had 5GB of memory size showed before but now just 898MB. My SD is 1GB of size.
Please help. Thanks.

Seriously, you amaze me.
Firstly, "I have no microSD adapter" = that's bad, you better get one and a computer.
Secondly, "I've just wrote an image on the card while it was still in the Nook." = that must be a very new technique, you might want to show us how you write an image on the NOOK.
Thirdly, "(Just plug it in and start the process)" = what's "the process"
Fourthly, "after it finished, I unplugged it, turned it off and then on again but my Nook just booted normally, not from the SD like it should." = you said you unplugged, I assume you meant removing the uSD off the NOOK, then how would you possibly expect CM7 booting from the uSD? You drive me in a maze.
Do explain a bit clearer.

if you have a blue dot nook, you have a 5gb system and 1 gb "storage" partition. This _MIGHT_ be normal for you.

I suspect this:

and that the image write to the SD card simply failed. You will probably need a card reader and possibly EASEUS Partition Manager (if you scrambled the card badly enough) and/or a fresh SD card to proceed. I was able to write the initial image I used to SD using the NC as my card reader, but I've seen wikis saying you're taking a chance doing it that way.
It might be worthwhile to try inserting the card at different times (after OS is fully started up, after reboot but before OS has fully loaded) to see if you can get the NC to recognize it, which might get you a second chance at writing the image. Most likely, though, you've scrambled the card good and will be lucky to even get a PC to recognize it in a proper card reader.
I doubt you did anything at all to the NC itself.

So first of all, don't panic. It's going to be just fine.
Second-- is your stock system rooted? If so, I think it would still be possible to install CM7 but perhaps not easy for a beginner.
Since you are a beginner, I might point out that the microSD adapters are about $6. You really have no excuse not to have one.

I'm not at all familiar with stock or the partitioning, but you are doing this wrong. You haven't hurt anything permanently, so relax, but I would follow the standard procedures until such a time as you have mastered it before you start improvising.
Just a friendly suggestion.

Ha ha.votinh....I'm sorry but that reply was classic.

Hey. I cannot do that as windows doesn't recognise the memory card...
also tried with partition manager (paragon) which surprisingly says the memory card is there... but then after format a warning comes up on phone and says "corrupt..." but then when you format it via the phone the error goes away...
but the pc still doesn't recongise the sd card (internal)
can any one can help me?
Just spoken to someone @ a Samsung service centre... he said it "sounds like a software fault and I will reflash the phone for you"..
Thing is I have done this literally 50 times with Odin... still no luck...
obviously I did not tell him this..
but he then said "if it is a hardware fault... we will send it to Samsung who will either fix it or send you a new one"..
hmmm ... but I am going on holiday for 2 weeks this tuesday... I need my phone

Click repartition. It should recreate the missing filesystem structure in the internal SD card.

Hey thanks for the reply.
If you mean repartition within odin.. it did enable it but still the phone sd is not recognised by the pc...
where else can I repartition the phone?
i can only think of partitioning the disk and formatting the disk from inside Android itself.
does anyone know a good App that can do that?
i know there are tons of those in PalmOS and WinMobi but i've yet to find one for Android
it's a windows vista/7 bug, i'm sure the internal SD card is fine.
i have had a similar problems with my HTC Athena (winmobi) it always does that every now and then, everytime it does that, i have to FACTORY reset and format the ENTIRE phone, for it to fix itself up >.<
Hey mate. Thanks for the reply.
You were correct in saying the internal memory is fine. I got a call from the Samsung repair centre and they reflashed the firmware (which I did many times through odin ) and they say it works now.
I shall go and collect it tomorrow.
Thank you so much to all the people that read and posted in this thread in orderr to help me.
I will try and return the favour one day
Update
hey bad news. the flash did not sort out the problem so when I get back from my holiday on the 10th august i will have to send it off to samsung...
Someone on the modaco forum said this to me:
They set up different size partitions. the 512 version sets up a bigger dbdata partition which is needed by many of the roms.
The 512 version if posted in many threads.
Next time you can do it yourself easily enough .

I can't really say, without more information. I don't really understand what you're saying.
It could be an issue with the drivers on your PC.

I would probably try to return to stock. This may cure the problem. Link here.
You're going to have to do your own research, now. Reading and searching, with the forum search button and google.
Good luck.
Hi, maybe you have the same bug, have a look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1483519
You seem to be affected by the same bug of the sdcard mount.
If you rebbot the system your sdcard will be correctly mounted.
Please vote the poll because we need to understand how to solve this bug.

[Q]Moving data and everything else to a new SD card.

I'm using an 8gb sd card for my HD2 and I wanna expand to a new 16gb one. My device is currently running Hyperdroid and I wonder how to transfer all of my data and files ...in my old SD card to a new one. Is it simply copy/paste or all them or something else ? Just want to make sure everything is working properly after installing the new sd card. Someone plz help me with this
hi,
If you're using mgldr, i would suggest making a full back up in recovery first by booting into mgldr>ad recovery>back up and restore>back up. After that, format your new sd card and partition it as required if you're using sd-ext/apps2sd. Remove old sd card from phone and make complete transfer of all the files from old sd card to new one by cut/copy paste method using your pc. After transferring files, insert your new sd card and boot into recovery by going to ad recovery in mgldr. Once in recovery, go to back up and restore choose restore and select the back up u made earlier. It should be there if u transferred all the files from old sd card. After restore is done you can reboot and wait for it to settle down. U can wipe dalvic and cache and fix permissions in recovery if u want before reboot but i dont think it's needed since u have a fresh sd card after formatting it first and the files are exactly the same as previous sd card.
Sorry i can't help if you're using clk. Hope i was of any help.
Are you running Android from NAND or SD?
if from SD just copy the whole files from the 8gig to the 16gig
or
just make an image copy of your 8gig to 16gig then just adjust the size using EAUSE or mini tool partition

Yep, this is exactly right although I think you can go to advanced restore>restore SD-EXT to make things quicker (restore backup will restore everything)

Look in my tips thread linked in my signature. In item A9 I list reasons why you may be having problems getting the SD to boot, including using a built-in SD card reader in your PC for burning.
well i have tried everything in A9 other then a USB ecard reader, I have used my laptop and my htc inspire as an ecard reader with no success. I have not tried plugging the usb chord into my pc, i will give that a try later and see how it works. If that does not work I think it is time i give up. Do i have to hold a special button combo to get it to boot into the sd card? or should it autoboot when i power back on the nook?

You don't need any special buttons to get it to boot into the sd card if its done right. When you put your sd card in a card reader, you should see only a drive letter with boot in the name with files like uImage uRecImg, uAltImg, etc on it. If the cm7 zip file is still there, it never flashed properly. It has to have a name with an "update-" prefix, or it won't flash. If you downloaded a CM7 zip file that has any name that doesn't start with "update-", change the name to start with "update-", and try again.
okay this is what i have on my sd card its called boot F: so what do i need to change. I dont understand the update- thing, i have never had this nook cracked/rooted nothing other then stock, I also have done this with both win32 and winimage both have completed successful. I am using generic-sdcard-v1.3.img to make the sd image then copying the cm7 over that is in the attached pic. Any help would be great.

Everything looks right on the card in your PC. But that does not mean it will boot in the Nook. If you have it burned properly it should boot automatically to the SD when you power on from a powered off condition. As I said in my tips thread which I think you read, many factors can prevent it from looking right to the Nook and booting. You said you used the card reader built in to the PC. That can sometimes make it not bootable by the Nook, even thought it looks fine on the PC. Get a cheap usb style card reader and burn with that.
But once you get it booting, you do need to rename that cm- file to say update-cm-. When verygreen made that script file all nightly zips started with update-. Now the CM team starts the name with cm- and verygreen's script will not recognize the name if named that.

Launching Apps via SD card

Hey guys,
This is something I observed over time, however to make it even more sure, I'd like to ask you all -
I've noticed that when an app, like Whatsapp is stored in the internal memory, it launches on its own after a reboot. I mean, I don't really need to open it first in order to get notifications/messages.
However, I've also noticed that If I move Whatsapp to my SD card, it will not run on its own after a reboot. If I don't open the app myself, I'll never get notified for new messages. Is this what you guys experience as well?
I found a solution on this forum.. Link2SD where you can create a partition on your SD card which can act as internal memory. If anyone if you have tried this, do the apps work normally (the ones in the partition) just like the apps in the internal memory?
If I put whatsapp in the partitioned space of SD card, I'd expect it to launch on its own, just like Facebook does, automatically after I reboot the device.
Look for the guide - 'link2sd for dummies' in general board by Carl - it should help you better understand things

It doesn't matter where the apps are stored they'll startup never the less it will just start later if stored on your sd card the only thing i can think of is that ur ram is overloaded as to many apps start at boot so apps on ur sd card which boot up after internal apps don't have "room" to startup as ur internal apps are hogging space if that's it then click on here in my Sig and look at the part on startup manger and app quarantine
