Windows8 downgrade to Win7 lost os - Windows 8 General

Hello I wanted and tried to downgrade my Windows8 pc and I failed because I didn't have the disk. I yet I know for a fact I have the recovery partition.. It is a ASUS G75VW BBK5.. I don't see Windows EMS or what not when I click F9 @ startup.. But I saw the recovery partition when it asked me to install windows7.. It says on F9 Windows 7 don't do anything. I rollback set up, and and windows8 doesn't do anything. I tried to downgrade so I can hack my Android because windows8 if hard to work with for it. Anyways help is appreciated.
Thanks for all who help. Sorry if in wrong section, if so can this be moved? I not deleted?

This isn't development, nor is it hacking.
But, try getting a disc to reinstall off of.

I tried download but what I really want to know is how to access recovery partitions if that happens.

Windows 7 .iso: http://www.w7forums.com/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads-t12325.html
PowerISO: http://download.cnet.com/PowerISO/3000-2646_4-10439118.html
1. Install PowerISO
2. After installation is complete, PowerISO will be integrated into Windows (meaning a PowerISO sub-menu will appear when files are right-clicked). Locate the ISO file to be mounted on your PC and right-click it.
3. In the PowerISO sub-menu, select Set Number of Drives and 1 Drives. This action creates a virtual drive. Locate My Computer on your PC, and you should be able to see a new drive (depending on how many actual drives you have, this may be named ‘F’, ‘G’ or something else).
4. The next step is to mount the ISO file to the new virtual drive you created in Step 3. Locate the ISO file on your PC again, right-click it and select PowerISO, Mount Image to Drive (x) (whatever PowerISO has labelled the virtual drive as).
5. The ISO file will now be mounted on the virtual drive. You can access it in My Computer in the same way you would a real drive. Double-click the virtual drive to open the ISO “disc”..
6. Open File explorer> Computer> Deceives and Removable Storage> Click "Setup.exe" go through the procedure
Hope it helps, if it does please click thanks

Didnt accept that file for me in Windows XP
In order to use this in vista 64-bit or win7 64-bit put your computer in test mode like this:
-Start>Run>type CMD>Enter
-type "bcdedit /set testsigning on" without the quotes>Enter
-Reboot
-Computer should say "Test Mode" in one of the corners
Mine says it in the bottom right.
For the life of me i can't get this to work. Whenever I plug up the phone to the computer, windows automatically installs a driver. When I try to update, it says the best driver is already in use. ADB not working. Tried uninstalling and same cycle happens over and over. It must be something small and stupid that i'm missing, can anyone help out?
windows vista by the way 32 bit
Hmm any thought for linux users?
Never mind. I'm an idiot. (Don't forget to enable USB debugging!)
Got the nexus plugged in through USB in debugging mode, installed this driver. When I do adb remount I get error message: "error: device not found"
What am I doing wrong? Does this driver not work for Windows XP?

P.S. I'm using Windows XP. Eclipse simple can't detect my Nexus One phone even I have the USB debugging turn on. Please kindly help.

I'm getting the same problem, except I keep uninstalling the drivers and trying to use the ones I downloaded from here. I believe it is using the drivers I downloaded but cannot connect to the phone.
I have under device manager: a usb composite device that I cannot change, USB mas storage device, which I cannot change, and the Nexus one ADB driver which installed no problem. Still getting the same error, even with USB debugging clicked.
I keep trying to update the USB mass storage device and the usb composite device associated with the phone, but it keeps saying the best drivers are in use. The nexus one driver worked but still no adb.

urgent help.i lost my os in my shift

dear friends .i tried to change my windows 7 to xp but that happend
i used usb_multiboot steps to do it and when i format my hdd and try to install it from the usb i get a lot of missed files to be copied to install xp
i tried to make others xp copies with more than 20 times it show me same(missed files which can not complete install) what can i do?????
Okay so what did you do now? How exactly did you try to install XP. What version of XP did you use, and what error does it give you exactly.
thanks so much for reply
what i do now is crying beside my htc shift ca not do nmothing with message every time say "setup cannot copy the file" and escap alot of file then not complet install
i used 2 copies of xp
tablet and other service pack 3 following usb-multi boot software by format my 2g usb and copy files from my xp source and boot well from usb it show me text install and go on then get copying files to install but that message come over and over "setup cannot copy the file"
what shall i do?
Alright so let me be sure that I have this right. You have tried to install XP from a 2GB USB drive, and it starts to install, then says that it cannot copy a file to the hard drive. Have you formatted your Shifts HDD using the Windows installer, and made sure to format it as NTFS? Also, are you using a legit copy of XP? Sometimes ones that you download from the net have things removed to make them have a smaller footprint once installed, but they also don't install correctly via USB. If you have a real retail XP copy, or have downloaded a copy of plain XP, I would redo your USB stick as it sounds like not all of the files where copied correctly to it. Let me know what happens.
first thanks so much for share and rely
second i formated it to ntsf after make 10g for c and the rest for d
second i downloaded the 2 copies from internet the tablet and the sp3
thanks so much again
i can not study and that bother me a lot cause i use my shift in my study thanks guys
Thats what I thought. You need to format both your USB drive and your Shift's HDD to NTFS. You should be asked what you want to format the HDD as when installing XP onto your Shift from the USB drive. I would also reccomend getting a clean version of XP Service Pack 2 as it seems to be about the most stable version to install from a USB drive. Download/get XP STOCK SP2, no modifications just the stock image, format your USB drive and Shift HDD as NTFS, and try again. Let me know.
thanks man so much i will do your advice and tell you
but i can not get real guide to format my usb to ntsf from windows thanks
Heres a sure fire way to format it as NTFS:
1-Open a command prompt.
2-Enter DISKPART
3-Enter LIST DISK
4-SELECT DISK (X)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
SELECT PARTITION 1
ACTIVE
FORMAT FS=NTFS
Replace the (X) with the name of your thumbdrive under My Computer.
Wait for it to finish, then close that window and voila! Your USB drive is formatted as NTFS and ready for use.
sorry
i did it only show my 0 disk of my desktop hard eisk but never show me the usb
Can you format it through My Computer?
thanks man so much i already change my usb stick to 4g ntsf one and it work now great
i am now install the xp sp2 retail
when i finish what shal i do for make other stuff worki like wifi 3g fingerprint and touch screen???/
i did it.........................thanks guys
how to enable 3g and wirless now
and change display??
Just install the drivers from the HTC website and it should work.
thanks man i already done but problem with
intel graphic for xp
wireless
3g
control center
Download the graphics drivers from Intel. You MUST install the Control Center and ECD drivers before the WiFi drivers. After you install the Control Center, go into it and turn on WiFi, Windows will then (hopefully) find a driver and install it. And for 3G I don't know as I don't use my SIM slot on my Shift, I tether my HD2 via WiFi for mobile internet.
thanks so much man you are so good kind person for that great help and care
everything is working now well but the vga and 3g....any way thanks so much

Windows 8+GUID+Chameleon

hi
why windows 8 are no booting when I install chameleon under mackintosh?
Doubt it's even supported yet.
Windows 8 boots fine from my ~2 month old SVN build of Chameleon (I installed it on its own partition and unplugged the other drives while installing) in addition to Win7 and 10.7.2...?
I can't see why it would be a problem; Chameleon is only chainloading Windows 8's bootloader anyway.
I use iboot to get Mac up and running.

Hi
It appears that chameleon will not work with windows 8 unless the windows is install in MBR. why i said this because it worked for me when windows was installed in mbr drive and mac on 2nd guid drive. the moment i changed windows drive to GPT it refuse to load when selecting chameleon unless I click on F12 upon boot and chose windows drive then it works fine.
I am going to move windows partition to second drive and let you know soon

[Q] Mac OS X 10.6 + Windows 8 = FAIL

well i had mac os x as my main OS, right on 1 partataion with chamelion as the boot loader, then i intslled WINDOWS 8 and i doesnt show chamelion it just boots right into Windows 8... how do i get chamelion back so i can boot into both
Dual booting hacked OSX and Windows 8 is not possible at the moment. Chameleon is not able to boot Win8, and Win8 bootloader couldn't possibly load OSX.
If you are on a Mac, you could install them on separate partitions.
If you are on a PC, you could install them on separate drives and choose the OS by BIOS boot-up selection.
Can't see any other way right now, but check InfiniteMac for future solutions.

He's right. I have win 8, win7, and lion on my hac pro, one one SSD. Just install chameleon loader to a usb drive, and once it displays the drive selecetion you should be able to set the the preferred boot drive to the partition which holds the bootloader. Hope that makes sense.

Or just Google for "iboot", burn it to a CD, reboot from CD and select your Mac OS partition. Otherwise, it will go straight to windows 8.

Iboot currently does not work. However, to boot lion, you may use "rboot" from TonymacOsx (something like this, Google it). It works the same way with the slight difference it is intended for Macintosh Lion and not for Snow Leopard or below.

You can install Chameleon on a old SD card o USB drive and select this drive in the boot menu. I used this way some time before and worked nice.

You didn't understand me. You've to install in the hard disk Windows 8 with its bootloader normally.
So, If you have Mac OSX in another Hard Disk you don't have any problem. Intall chameleon in OSX hd and select it in your motherboard boot menu.
If you have the both SO in the same Hard Disk. Intall the windows bootloader in the hard disk. And in a SD Card/USB stick install Chameleon with its Extra folder, etc (all the chameleon stuff).
You can boot the SD/USB in your motherboard boot menu .
Maybe it's not the better solution. But is what I used to do.

[DISCUSSION] Installing windows 8 pro

Hey guys, i looked around and couldnt find a thread so here's one.
I want to know, how did you all install windows8 pro? Did you do a clean install or installed without wiping anything?
I read on the internet that you can't install windows with a full wipe. After you do that, Microsoft blocks the activation of product key even if it's legit. MS says that windows 8 pro is only meant as an upgrade. What the f*** does this mean? Why is Microsoft having any objections on how we use something that we have bought legally?
Here's one article.
Let me know your thought on this. Did you face such an error while installing Windows?
I installed windows 8 without wiping. When im in windows 8 i backup everything i want then proceed to reset it to factory settings which it'll clean the c drive. Never had any problems with the activation. Oh i bought the online pro version which cost $39.99.
However the only problem i have is everytime it reboots my mouse will not work forcing me to restart again to get my mouse working. Otherwise its good.
// Edit:
Forgotten to mention it was an upgrade from windows 7.
I also did make the downloaded W8 installation into iso and make it into usb installation via windows 7 usb tool and install from the usb on top of windows 8 for a clean installation and everything works well too.
If problem still persist you may try to install windows 7 and upgrade from there then while you're in windows 8 do a factory reset which doesn't require you to insert the cd or usb for the reset (+1 for that feature though). That's just me~

I installed windows 8 from windows 7 desktop as the installation was downloaded into my c drive. However i also tried installing from an usb from a direct boot into the usb (im sure it'll work the same as CD). Upgrading can only means you must have an existing OS such as windows 7 and install windows 8 from the CD inside windows 7.
Regarding to your problem about the activation caused by not an upgrade, i would suggest you to install windows 7 without activating it and run the windows 8 installation from the CD inside windows 7. I have not encountered your problem before but to troubleshoot it you may have to go extra length with what i have suggested. (Doesn't mean it'll 100% work)
Other ways to troubleshoot if the above fail is to try the usb installation with Windows 7 USB Tool. Before you use it you must turn your windows 8 installation cd into ISO with freewares like ImgBurn.
Not sure if any of these will help you but if both the solutions above fail, you may need to contact Microsoft or the dealer you purchased your copy of windows 8 about it.
// Edit
Wait are you having problem with the installation or you're just asking is there any problem with the installation?

You may do either. The installation handles everything. At some people, it may request your Windows 7 key and other times it detects the installation automatically.
I am not having any problem. I read that if you install windows8 using a clean install Microsoft won't let you activate the product key.
Just a question, did you click install Windows just like you'd any other game?

In that case, there is no problem whatsoever with my copy of installation downloaded from the Microsoft. Both installing from windows 7 desktop (Upgrading and yes it's like installing games) and usb booting installation (Considering it did not load my current OS first so this doesn't count as upgrading, i might be wrong), complete without the activation problem. Not sure about the physical copy but my guess is the result will still be the same. Others might have bought a bad copy of the installation disc, i don't know.
The best thing is, once you have windows 8 installed without any problem.. you do not need the installation files anymore. Reinstalling windows 8 can be done easily.

I did almost the same thing. I downloaded it from Microsoft and chose keep nothing , it loaded and I started with a clean laptop. I did not burn an iso or download it to an USB drive, I used the download.
Before I loaded win8 I used double driver and copied all my drivers to a backup, just in case I had an issue, I also did a full backup of everything else. I'm really enjoying it, but there are still a few places I use secure wifi that don't recognize windows 8 as being a valid os, they also dont recognize the windows defender as being a valid antivirus software, but otherwise I've been impressed. I was going to purchase a new laptop with a touch screen but I don't have any reason to now.

i did an upgrade without getting anything over from win 7...
Just to preface, Windows had marked my system as not being genuine (I know this because Microsoft security essentials wouldn't allow me to install it). I updated on top of Windows 7 since didn't want to install all of my apps all over again. I download the update and installed it right from my hard drive as opposed to a usb or dvd, although I did make a backup copy of the windows 8 file just in case.
Everything is okay except it takes a while (roughly 15 minutes) for windows to recognize my Intel graphics chip right away. The screen will just be black after the Windows logo appears. Also, if you update directly from your hard drive, make sure you delete your temporary files because windows will keep the old OS and files. After clearing mine I freed up 32 GB!
*Update*
After installing windows 8 and enabling then installing the windows updates, my laptop boots up just fine now ( and mighty quick I add). As others have said, I don't believe windows cares if your version of windows 7 is genuine or not.

Hi,
Thought I would share my experience:
I downloaded and installed the upgrade version. I was running Windows 7 Pro before.
After downloading the files, I wrote it to a disk and decided to do what I did for Win7, manual format and repartition my disks (I didnt trust the "Keep Nothing" option )
Unfortunately, I forgot I had a dynamic disk and my Win7 partition was booting off it - I formatted my C:\ and was met with a "Cannot create partition... / cannot install windows on dynamic disk"... it was a long painful process that took me most of the day to fix. Also, there is a bug with installing Win8 with multiple hard drives booting from disk or at least I had some trouble with it until I detached 2 of them for the install to progress.
After all that, the key wouldn't activate because it wasn't technically an upgrade... *face palm*
So, in went the Win7 disk, reinstalled and activated. After initial boot, I put in the Win8 CD and used the wizard and selected "Keep Nothing" ( At this point I couldn't care less)
All activated and now enjoying the system
Moral of the story:
- Stay away from dynamic disks on the boot partition, it'll warn you if you try - heed the warning!
- Multiple harddrives may cause issues with the install so you might need to disable them through bios or disconnect them from the mobo
- For me the Key only activated via an install, it wouldn't recognize it when I formatted C:\ through custom install.
- Did I mention? STAY AWAY FROM DYNAMIC DISKS!!!

It's only the box copies that are sold in retail stores that are upgrade-only packages. A few will only sell full retail versions of Windows 8. These versions are more likely a hundred bucks more than the upgrade version. The copy downloaded from the Microsoft Store are full Windows 8 Pro copies.
What? Are you sure??

I upgraded my notebook from within 7 no problem. My desktop i bought the upgrade, and installed from a USB that the upgrade advisor program created. However i formatted the HD before installing and did a clean install and it never asked for any proof that i had windows 7 on my PC previously. Its fully activated and fine.
I have heard that in some countries it will even let you upgrade a pirate copy of 7 if the upgrade advisor program doesn't flag it.
