Bluetooth Track Names Not Appearing - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
My old galaxy s2 would have the song, artist and album names all show on the headunit's display, as well as controls for repeat and shuffle.. However my nexus 4 is not sending any of this info across.. I can however still play, pause and skip tracks with the headunits controls. I am using the stock 4.2.1 rom and music player.
Any idea how to fix this/why it's happening?

Sv: Bluetooth Track Names Not Appearing
From what I've read somewhere Google changed something in BT protocol in 4.2 and people are awaiting a fix. Perhaps this is the problem. Google and see what you find
... . -. - ...- .. .- - .- .--. .- - .- .-.. -.-

hmm I googled my problem and couldn't find anything relevant, googling for a bluetooth problem in 4.2 found a few reports of a bug that causes BT dropouts and lag but no mention of track names.. Still, it could be the same. Thanks for the reply!

It's not a bug. Stock Android uses AVCRP v1.0 that only supports control via Bluetooth.
To get control and song info (aka meta data) you need v1.3. Some manufactures like Samsung and LG as well as some custom roms use v1.3.
Hopefully Google will put in v1.3 in the coming versions of android.

CM 10.1 is built off the bluetooth stack used in 4.2 so it does not send track info to a bluetooth device either.

Avrcp 1.3 also supports album art as well. I remember they got it to work on cm something with the stock music app and Google music. Not the album art portion though. Also I have never seen Pandora support the protocol. So the app also needs to support the feature.

Yeah but on my old HTC one s. I put cm 10.1 on it and it worked fine. That's what I loved about cm roms lol

Oh, well there you go, I didn't know all this. Thanks for the info, everyone!

Does anyone know a rom for the nexus for that has Avrcp 1.4 (or 1.3 if none have 1.4)?

Volume Control with Screen Off

Does anyone know if there is a way that the volume can be changed on the SGS i9000 without the screen turning on?
I have checked the settings of both Android and Winamp but found no option.
Also, an Internet search using Google and searching the XDA did not return a result...
I also find this annoying. I use the MIUI player

Thanks for the quick reply and information; I will definitely check that out now.
You would think that this would be a feature included with Android; although, maybe a developper would be able to create a mod with this feature. *hint hint*
Can anyone comment if such a modification would even be possible?
PlayerPro supports volume up/down with the screen off. It also supports skip forward/back with the volume keys, by holding them down. (this behaviour can be turned off and/or reversed with volume as well).
It's the only music app I've found that does this, although I wish it did pause instead.
Cheers
What firmware are you on? I'm on Darky's 9.3 (2.2) and it does this with the default music player.

THANK YOU!!!
I am using the JVB firmware currently and, as you mentioned, the default music player actually does not turn the screen on when changing volume.
Hah! All this time and I never thought to use the default music player. Go figure...
So, seems as though I should send yet another request to Winamp development.
Wish me luck...
Alright, to finish this thread off I thought I would mention that I have been using Winamp since it was released and never looked back; so, my apologies for anyone that may have facepalmed while reading this...
Suprisingly the default music player is not that bad. Actually, I think that I may continue using it instead of Winamp until an equalizer has been implemented and the volume can be changed without causing the screen to turn on. Also, the music player has features in the notification area and Winamp does not.
Either way, thanka again to everyone that helped; it is greatly appreciated.

Voodoo sound seems to allow me to adjust all music apps with screen off.

Hi the problem with the screen that turns on when pressing the volume keys occurs when you have a non stock lockscreen like widgetlocker or winamp lockscreen controls above the stock lockscreen.
I think everyone reproduce this problem in sgs

use player pro and voodo sound (voodoo control plus)
its worked like a charm
I honestly would just use the default samsung music player. It has built in eq's, has lock screen player & has a funky 5.1 button for the hell of it. (although it's debatable if it changes the sound quality for the better or not)

You have helped me to find the root cause. THANK YOU IMMENSELY!!!
The issue is that; although I use the stock lockscreen, it was disabled using the Extended Controls application because I was at work and next to my phone the entire time...
Good catch and thanks again. I owe you a coffee, beer, or something; but, in the meantime, I will click your thanks button. That's just as good, right?!

Motion control in music app?

I just updated my phone the new CM 7.1 RC1 and now when I play music with the head phone jack on every time the phone moves just a little the tracks skip/pause/misc stuff happens. Is there any way to disable this function it is really getting on my last nerves?

[Q] Nexus 7 and NFC ReTag

Hi all,
I´m still trying to find a way to get my hands on a Nexus 7 here in europe ... (not UK ;-)) ...to test my app NFC ReTag FREE
However, according to my dev console, there should be already some Nexus 7 users with NFC ReTag out there, and till today no bugs were reported, but I would like to double check it and receive some early feedback from the first Nexus 7 users ;-)
It´s not tested on the Nexus 7 yet and the UI is not optimized for the screen size (major UI changes are under development anyway ) but in general it should work without any problems.
Has anyone tried the app and could give some feedback ???
Video how it should work : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7TrkZ2hzn0
No one with a NFC tag + a Nexus 7 + 5min time?

Just gave it a try. Apart from your logo looking a bit stretched all the text and buttons where correctly placed and I have scanned a few NFC tags and had them launch some apps and turn WiFi and Bluetooth on and off. I did have to allow it to turn them on and off each time seemed to be no way of granting access forever.
Quick question can you have it launch a specific web page based on the Tag not just Chrome?
Many thanks for your feedback!
To get rid of the Bluetooth security pop up, try the "on silent" or "toggle silent " parameter... Wifi should not have such a security pop up..
To open a website, use the "browse" activity with a parameter like "forum.Xda-developers.Com"... Without the quotes...

Anyone with additional feedback ?
Just given it a go, using my UK Barclaycard which has an NFC chip in. Set it to bring up the Barclaycard website using teh Browse action type which worked ok for a normal website but if you add https:// at the start it doesn't work.
Also when adding a tag there is an option for templates, when clicked I assume it should list some preset types but none are coming up ?
Nice app though, cool idea

Yeaah, i probably should add a FAQ or some additional help textes
For the HTTPS issue, have a look at the settings and use the "disable http prefix" option ...
Templates: it´s an option to store your own tags as templates ... no preconfigured templates available (perhaps I should add a hint within the next update )
So it seems, to work as expected (at least for me ) on the nexus 7 ...
Again, many thanks for your feedback !!! :good:

[Q] Android Beam/ S-Beam

Hey guys,
I just joined up today so bare with me as I am new. My wife just got the Nexus 4 and I currently have the Galaxy Note 2. We are both with tmobile. We were trying to "bump" phones last night to share music. Everytime I tried to share a song from my phone to hers it would get all the way to the point where it would have you click the screen and then pull the phone away but then nothing happened on her end or android google play store would pop open with a error message. Can you not use Android Beam and S-beam together? Do you have to use certain settings?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks

You are correct, the two types of beam are incompatible with each other. Not sure of a fix as I have no use for it.
I haven't tried music but I know you need to turn S-beam off and keep NFC on, that's how I was able to send pictures from my Nexus 4 to my friend's Galaxy S3

So what is the point of android beam and S-beam if you can use them together? Just use S-beam with S-beam phones? And Android beam with android beam phones aka isnt that only Nexus phones? That is frustrating. Thanks for your response by the way!!!

So what do u reccommend for sending music..wifi direct or bluetooth?
Just turn off S-beam. I have successfully sent files to and from a couple of SGS3's with my Nexus 4 with no issues.

If you have WiFi you can try WiFi file transfer. It allows other devices to browse your file system.

What's works for me is after turning off S-Beam, I've turned off and on my Android Beam all over again. Before I did that I was having same old opening Play Store issue. After that everything is normal now.
Not sure if you are still interested or have figured it out already, since it's been 5 months passed since your post
Copyright maybe?
dont you think maybe nexus 4 block it?
i have had issue transferring .apk using bluetooth, need to rename b4 transfer.
maybe the same for music. furthermore, you use G.play
sorry, just an idea

Apple keyboard won't type. Somebody please help!!!

Hi everyone,
I recently rooted my Nexus 10 and have the Cyanogenmod 10.2 ROM on my device. I've never connected a blue tooth keyboard before, so I may not know what I'm doing. It pairs fine, but won't type. Now I know that this is a known problem in Android 4.3 and others have said that changing the name of a .kl file fixes the problem, but I don't know which file to rename. Anybody know how to fix my problem? Thanks.

That post is useless for that issue, it only resolves the bluetooth issue for 4.3 which does not fix Apple keyboard. The issue with Apple keyboards and the N10 is that they connect, but they do no type, which has been an issue in 4.3 and 4.4, which no one has yet to find a fix for. Even the app which is meant to fix this issue does not work, or deleting any of the key layout files in root.
