Hi. PiBackup is offering a free Galaxy Nexus (unlocked).
Now it will not be fair to the XDA community if I don't disclose my interest in the company. I am one of the early investors and someday I hope to reap some rewards. Someday
Now I will try to introduce PiBackup to you guys. Though marketing is not my strong point, I will try
PiBackup provides unlimited data backup for a very low price. You can find out more at the website. This was an invite only program which has now gone public. To celebrate this, one brand new Galaxy Nexus is up for grabs, along with 3 free annual accounts. There is a small list of terms & conditions of course.
More offer details can be found at http://pibackup.com/offer
Now, as an investor I can get a promo code with 10% discount exclusively for XDA members and their family/friends. However, I will need at least 10 confirmations before I can do this.
UPDATE: 2 likes, 1 interest = Counted as 3 confirmations. 7 to go before I can get the promo code created.
P.S. If this advertisement(?!) is against the XDA policy, the mods can modify accordingly or delete this.
Wouldn't say it's "free" since you have to sign up for your services in order to win.
@mbh87: Well, you are paying for a different service. However, if you win the Nexus it will be free!
must be resident of usa... im not
@lokenok: Sorry, the GN offer is only for US residents. However, free backup accounts are for grab from (almost) anywhere.
No takers? I need a least 10 of you to help me out here to get the XDA promo code made.
So wen does this contest take place/how does it wotk because I want a gn n I'm willing to ppay that thirty

The contest is open to all subscribers, but GN offer is for US only due to logistics problems; please see T&C for more info. The draw will be done randomly using an automated system and the winners will be chosen on 15th of July. The site is also updated with this info.
P.S So far 1 like and 1 interest. I am counting this as 2 total interests. I still need 8 more to get a 10% XDA special discount code made.
Besides signing up for something, what's the catch? You take our personal information and sell it just like every other company out there.

What? NO! What go into your mind No information is ever passed to a third party. Even PiBackup employees don't even access to backed up data as they're encrypted. Besides, I am not even an employee but an investor.
Also, there is no catch. Everything is mentioned in the offer's T&C. Please don't judge without checking out facts. None of customers have complained so far about our service let alone selling their info!
I just wanted to share this in XDA as I am with community since Jan 2011 and I had hoped to do something for the community by sharing a code which they can use or distribute to get a discount on subscriptions (this is how we earn).
If anyone else has any concerns, please let me know and I will try to address them asap.
I'm sure some of you guys have gotten the email from Moto about the so called "trade-up" program. I got an email a couple of days ago but just ignored it since it just ticked me off even more once I read the details. It was already a slap in face with the insulting $100 but then they took it a step further and put so many restrictions on how it can be spent that it is basically useless. I'm sure that was their intent since they do not want to loose money on a product they no longer choose to support.
I know there is always a sucker out there for every deal but I wonder how many people will actually "trade up".
Android Authority wrote up a pretty good article about it. http://www.androidauthority.com/motorola-jelly-bean-cash-problems-131218/

I just checked out the official website at http://www.mototradeup.com. There's exactly one phone us Atrix owners on AT&T can trade up to: the Atrix HD, which costs $449 out-of-contract and no doubt has a bootloader so locked down as to make Fort Knox jealous.
No thanks.
I received my email several weeks ago, ut served to make me laugh for a few minutes. It is absolutely worthless to me, my 2 year contract ends in September 2013.
I have no desire to spend $100+ on a 10 month old phone (10 months by Sept 2013) that will likely not get any updates after i buy it.
They didn't even try to think this 'appeasement' out. It was as half-a**ed as their support of our phones is.

Thing is, as far as we can tell we got nothing too. Only difference is they hung a carrot in front of us and then laughed when we reached for it.

I never even got an email I still love the phone, but I can't say the same about the company....
I got the email a week or so ago... It's not too shabby a deal if someone wanted the Atrix HD. @ the time I got the email, AT&T had it for $49.99 w/ 2 yr contract, so you'd pocket $50 from the trade-up. I'm not going to take them up on it because I already got a gs3 to replace the Atrix. Just saying, it's not a bad deal if you're tired of waiting for something to be done w/ the Atrix.
Actually it kinda is a bad deal. You can sell the Atrix on craigslist or similar for considerably more than $100 and still get the Atrix HD with the $49.99 contract.
They will send you a Visa Prepaid Card. They received my device and send me this email.

as you had already been f**ked up by moto once because of the atrix, it will treat their customers the same way in the future, do you what to be f**ked up again with such a meaningless trade up?

The visa card is what I get offered as well (AT&T), the terms of which state this:
Motorola Visa Prepaid Card is issued by MetaBankTM, Member FDIC, pursuant to a license from Visa U.S.A. Inc. Cards are issued in connection with a loyalty, award or promotion program. Card does not have cash access and can be used at any merchants that accept Visa debit cards. Card valid for up to 12 months, funds do not expire and may be available after card expiration date, subject to applicable law. Country restrictions apply and are subject to change. Card terms, conditions, and limitations apply; monthly card account management and post-expiration re-issuance fees may apply, see MyPrepaidCenter.com/site/visa-univ for details.

Its still not a great deal, particularly since they only offer the Atrix HD for us AT&T folks, but not quite as bad as people seem to be saying.
Although, the Atrix HD isn't all that bad, roughly on par with the HTC One X.
The only way I'll be buying Motorola again is if they get the contract to build the next Nexus.
Will get my $0.96 Samsung gs3 tomorrow from Sams club. Thanks to all the devs! I appreciate all you did for the
Atrix.

I have my own tradeup program. I'll let them keep their $100 and in return motorola will be out of my life forever. Aside from the original Atrix I haven't been impressed with any of their phones in the last two years. Atrix HD has a bezel as big as my coffee table and the only way you'll ever get key lime pie on it is if you take it to Denny's during drunk hour. From now on I'm only buying supported devices like Nexus, Iphone, or popular dev phones like S3 or HTC Desire.
Hello fellow atrix owners. I understand the need to have the newer version of android as I understand your dissatisfaction with Motorola. But I don't understand why should any of us accept this "offer"they give us... we have very stable and fast gingerbread roms that make me forget there is a newer version. Thanks for our great devs. The only disadvantage is that there might be apps that we can't download because we run an older version but I never even considered that until a member posted about it. I love my atrix and I'm not crying for not having ICS, JB. all I need is a stable custom ROM!!

I attached a 3 page conversation I had with Motorola today for anyone who would like to view it.
Ok so I ordered the Nexus 4 about two weeks ago. I have been so excited to get it and I literally just got it about an hour ago. Now something crazy has happened. About 30 mins after UPS dropped off my phone UPS came back with another package. The package looked exactly the same as the first package he dropped off and I was like WTF??
I opened the box and behold it was another Nexus 4. At this point I am all like WTF google better not have charged me twice. I ran to my computer and checked my bank account. They only charged me for one phone. I went to the google play store to check my transaction history and it also said that I only purchased one. I opened the package and looked at the invoice. Both packing slips have the same order number on them. I think Google actually messed up and sent me two Nexus 4s for the price of one.
Has this happened to anyone else? Should I be worried? Should I do the honest thing and send it back or just accept this as a Christmas Gift from Google? I would love to give this second phone to my sister for Christmas. What do you guys think?

You're LEGALLY entitled to keep it since Google shipped it to you.
Morally and ethically, you should return it.

Yes. If they charged you for one phone and mistakenly sent you two it's theft. I would contact them and let then know if I was you. They may give you some sort of a deal for being an honest person... Even if they don't, you can offer to pay for it and won't have to wait for shipping. Just my 2 cents

It certainly is theft. You are in possession of property that you didn't pay for and was clearly shipped to you in error. nbebbe42 is correct, contact Google and have it returned... just make sure they pay for the shipping.
There's an FTC rule that essentially deems all unrequested merchandise a gift and therefore an individual or company who ships something to someone by mistake has no recourse in recovering said merchandise.
Like I said, legally right, ethically wrong.
I was all ready to tell you to keep it but after reading these posts I thought how I would feel and I've always returned stuff that wasn't mine. I certainly wouldn't think of it as stealing though, I guess you just have to decide.
What if google charged you for 2 nexus and you only get one/? Would you call google theft??? You would be crying abd calling thrm thefts... Do the right thing and phone them

Legally speaking you are a %100 to do with it what you will, AS long as your name is on both shipping receipts. Ethically speaking by returning it you would put people through the hassle of getting it shipped back putting it back in the system and also risk the employment of whoever made the error.
If you think about it the amount of man hours to deal with these slip ups usually out cost the actual product being returned. I'd say make someone you love have an even better Christmas/Hanukkah or whatever you celebrate
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
You should do the right thing and call Google about it. See if they hook you up, give you a nice discount or something. At the end of day if you don't call you will be a thief. You should also consider giving it to a Dev at retail if Google will you let keep it. Development is slow.
I voided my warranty.
I wouldn't call it stealing. If you found the phone on the street and kept it is that stealing?
Someone lost it and you happen to stumble upon by accident.
Now you could turn the phone in to the authorities like a good man and maybe Santa will have something bigger in store for you this Christmas.
Or you could keep it like any normal person would do.
If you keep it however, they could trace it back to you (your signature receiving the order)
Likely scenario, someone messed up the order and the phone was sent to you. Whoever was supposed to receive the phone will not receive it, and will file a "lost/stolen" with Google and they will ship another one to them as an apology.
It isn't stealing because you didn't take it, it shipped to you

Just like being given extra $50 change at the register isn't stealing? Legally it may not be stealing but ethically it wrong and stealing. Some of us answer to the Big G, not Google, and don't have a disposable conscience as some of the logic being thrown around is implying.

Legally, anything that is shipped to your home is yours to keep. This is in order to prevent companies from shipping you merchandise that you never asked for, then hounding you for the money.

I wonder what the marketing team is playing at here. This is a unique way of selling phones.
so what if i get one for 2 weeks and then decide i dont want it? do i just send back a customized Moto X with no other charges? seems a little sketchy to me

It's possible they would require you to ship it back to them on your dime. IMO, this is completely fair. The penny puts your CC on their account. If people decide to take advantage of this for fraudulent reasons, Moto has your CC on their database and can easily charge you the full amount. This also moves units as well and gains exposure for the phone(sounds like their 500M marketing budget was cut). Some people may be convinced to keep the phone because spending the effort to ship back the phone may be too dissuading.
For our benefit, we get to test-run a phone at no risk for 2 weeks and we just have to send it back if we're done. That sounds good to me. Of course if they provide pre-paid labels to send back, then it really is no-risk for us.

Thats what im thinking. i want to try out a Wooden back before i use my code! if i cant get one, try it out and send it back for $.01, thats a no brainer. or even let my girlfriend try it out for 2 weeks and not use her GS3 that she always complains about...(Dont want her to get a iph*ne)
There is no charge to send it back from what i have heard.
No charge for shipping or the return either (you contact FedEx and they send the return packaging and can pick it up as well).
Motorola knows people will attempt to scam them for phones with this, if you read the FAQ for this Try Before You Buy offer they make it clear they can and will remotely brick the phones if you attempt to rip 'em off (not sure there's any actual way to stop that, even with using custom ROMs, etc, I have no idea).
If you do decide to keep one they'll attempt to charge the credit card the full price, and if that doesn't go through they'll then push lawyers on you so, I'm pretty sure they're covered.
Worse comes to worse they can simply push the IMEI to the national blacklist and the phone is dead regardless.
I mean, for a penny, if they're willing to ship me one I'd love to try one out for a time, can just slide my T-Mobile SIM in it and I'm good to go.
<least till this Sprint/T-Mobile and now SoftBank crap gets resolved 'cause if it happens you can be damned sure they're going to kill the $30/month plan so many of us love...>

Although if you're willing to put the full price on a credit card (instead of only "paying a penny") you can still try one out for 14 days and return it free if you want.

I don't think you can return it if you buy it full price I think you can only exchange it for a different color option.
But anyway I was looking forward for this promotion as I can't stand my note 3 anymore because it's so laggy but when I woke up this morning all the codes were gone
If anyone has a spare one and willing to give it away for free I will gladly take it
Got a Royal Blue, White Front and Metallic accent ordered. I'm 50/50 right now on keeping it past 14 days once it gets here.
Just seems for the $400+ price it's a little steep
Got one to try out and possibly keep. White/Bamboo/Silver Accents & 64gb. Always liked the X and wanted one since last Fall.

I was able to return the X I bought during the black Friday promotion within 30 days (CA resident) with no penalty and free shipping. Maybe they've changed their policy since January.
Anyways, I ordered a blue/white/bamboo 32gb to try out. If the screen and camera are better than the one I had in December, I'll seriously consider keeping it. My nexus 4 has been struggling lately and I don't know if it'll make it to the X+1/Nexus 6(?) release in September.

Did you get an email saying it was on hold or did you proactively have to contact CS to learn this? You'd think they'd be capable of handling a huge influx of orders at this point.

They DMd me here because I'd been looking to review the zero lemon case. Odd way to do it, but they wanted to PayPal me the money for the case, and then have me buy it on Amazon. I don't have PayPal (and it seems like a weird way to do it), so it looks like they are going to send me a Walmart GC instead. Again it seems like an odd way to do it, but I'll let you guys know how it goes.

They paid my order with PayPal. I agree, it seemed super odd to me, but it seems a lot of groups are having to do it this way, due to some new rules from Amazon about using promo codes for review products like other have in the past. At least they paid up front, choetech wanted to pay AFTER the review was submitted, which seemed a bad idea.

Good to know. I am doing a review of the CHOETECH panda charger, and they will pay after as you said. I don't have PayPal so they are going to send me a GC. I'm not too worried about it because they make good products, I've bought numerous CHOETECH products.
I know Amazon cracked down a while ago about companies discounting for reviews, but didn't realize they were cracking down on promo codes as well. In fact, I reviewed a cheotech charger that I got using one of their discount codes.
I guess in the end, if I don't like it and they don't send a gc, I could always just return it to Amazon. I was just worried that if I did have PayPal, they might do a charge back.
Edit: I guess I was just surprised since Zero Lemon was just sending out the products directly. At the same time, if the Amazon review isn't a "verified purchase", it might look shady.

Amazon is trying to cut down on paid reviews / free product reviews, so this is the way many manufacturers are getting around it. Amazon can see if reviews are coming from people who got the product free using a promo code. They can't see if you got reimbursed through Paypal after the fact.

Which is why it's a shame that the Amazon vine program isn't available to more people. I get some. Companies were abusing the samples for reviews, but honest companies want reviews for people to buy stuff. The whole reason I took a chance on CHOETECH products was the great reviews.

Amazon is trying to cut down on paid reviews / free product reviews, so this is the way many manufacturers are getting around it. Amazon can see if reviews are coming from people who got the product free using a promo code. They can't see if you got reimbursed through Paypal after the fact.

No, don't need and can't afford a ZR1. It's a 2015 Stingray.

TL;DR: I like this case a LOT.
