N4 on AT&T - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an LTE data plan and use an LTE APN and I find that some times my data will not work. I put the phone to sleep and then back on and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Everything is always fine on WiFi. Anyone else on AT&T find they have issues like this?

Do some searching. I don't have ATT but think I read once someone had luck reverting to the non-LTE APN with fine speeds. Just repeating what I read, so take it for what it's worth.

You will need to switch your LTE data to HSPA plan.

Change APN to phone instead of pta. Leave everything else the same. I personally create a new APN, name it 4g or whatever you want, set APN to phone and that's all. Works very well for me. I am on a hspa+ plan now but this helped when I was still on my lte plan. This should work for you.

That's not true I use my AT&T PTA APN and it works perfect for me. I can use the pta(lte), hspa+, or Cingular.WAP and all 3 work great

LTE APN works fine for me using PTA, however my data speed isnt that great compare to tmobile.
ive tried PTA and Phone, they both yield the same result for me.

I have an AT&T plan and SIM from my previous LTE phone. I use the preset LTE APN that came with CyanogenModand it works great.

Apn
I have an lte plan and found the Cingular apn too slow. I changed mine as follow
Note* I found it in a thread and has worked flawless with faster data speeds. I live in the bay area, California
Apn - phone
Mmsc- http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
Mms proxy- proxy.mobile.att.net
Mms port - 80
Everything else as it was

"Sometimes", meaning at times it does without intervention? When you try to access data what happens? On tmobile thr phone idles on 3G and takes time to switch up to H. Sometimes having to refresh a page or click a few times until it kicks in. Is this what you're experiencing?
Did you have to enter an apn or did it set them automatically for you?

Thank you for posting yours. I'm currently on a LTE plan coming from a S3, I went in to AT&T store and asked about having my plan changed to a 4G HSPA+ plan and they told me there is no such plan. They just have 3G and LTE for smartphones. Weird, I'm pretty sure folks have posted images of their plans... oh well, if this LTE APN works well, I'll be happy. I hate that I lose my data periodically with the Cingular APN.

[Q] Nexus 7 3G No Data with AT&T SIM

I just got my Nexus 7 3G and inserted my SIM from my AT&T Galaxy Note II. I get 4 bars but cannot get data. I have tried using several of the AT&T APN settings I have used on other devices but cannot get data to work. Has any other AT&T user got this to work?
Note: I finally got it to work using the old wap.cingular settimgs.

Slowest Data Speeds on my Nexus 4

I have T-Mobile 30$ Prepaid plan with 5gb 4g data and then 3g unlimited plus 100 minutes. I have a download speed and upload speed of 100kb- 200kb. No idea why. I got higher scores on my Nexus One. coverage is perfect in my area. Is it my APN settings? I set it to IPV4/IPV6? Any help:laugh:

i've had this problem. you can check your apn settings here. but when i talked to customer support they pretty much told me if that's the speed it i get then they can't do anything about it. so if anyone else has any more info that'd be cool. :good:
Maybe u getting throttled?

I love my data speeds on T-Mobile monthly 4G...T-Mobile 3G is slow are you sure you can't get H (4G) in your area. Tmobile's 4G will actually only come on when data is being used. So I suggest browse the web for a little bit and when you see H come on then run a speedtest. But the phone idols at 3G and I didn't have to mess with any APN settings.
Edit: I am on the 70 dollar plan unlimited everything and no throttling.
No that's impossible... I only used 500mb so far...and I have a payment due in three days. I have H all the time. My iPhone 4 gets faster speeds...and that's stuck on 3G

What speeds were you getting with your Nexus One? And have you tested your WIFI speeds on your N4 are normal as you expect them to be?

Yeah they are. I got like 3-4 mpbs on my Nexus One as well as my iPhone 4. My Nexus 4 gets 200-300KB 3-5 bars H icon. I get my usual 15 mpbs on wifi so it cant be the radio on the phone..
is there a HSPA+ option that we could turn on and off. or is it when there is HSPA+ it automatically connect.

You can enter *#*#4636#*#* and change to WCDMA to GSM auto. See if that works. I have a nexus 4 and a contract plan with t mobile and I have HORRIBLE speeds. But yet good reception? Here's my screen shot
Look full bars and H
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
This is FULL reception. I know its tmobile because I get 12.00 Mbps for about 5min / 4 times a day, if I'm lucky
Have you tried calling tmobile?

Even after a month i still have these issues. Is this a defect on the Nexus 4? I've had three replacements and it still persists.

Confirming that I'm having the same problem, on at&t. My Nexus 4 gets terrible speeds compared to my 850 Mhz Nexus One and my One S. Same SIM and APN on all of them.
It's also ridiculously slow to switch the data connection on (read: to show H+ in the status bar or start showing the up and down arrows.

Data drop

Hi all,
I'm really happy with my nexus 4 that I brought in November, but every day when i go out and i start using the 3G connection I'm having data drop.... That happens always, if I wanna check Facebook or just using Internet I have to try many times to get the data to work, I have tried stock kernel and now I'm on Franco kernel but seems that nothing works.
So are you having data drops issue? I'm thinking of sending my telephone back for warranty but I don't know if it is just me or if this is happening to all you?
Thx
I've been having the same issue. Are you on AT&T? I had them update my IMEI today and the old Cingular APN works consistently but they messed up my data plan, so I'll have to check back tomorrow when I'm back on the HSPA+ APN.

T-Mobile LTE in New York, not working on Nexus 4?

Hey guys, so I have a nexus 4 with 4.2.2 with the .33 radio flashed. My friends unlocked at&t one x started receiving LTE from T-Mobile today. I did the whole LTE enabling trick, but while I was able to get signal (unlike the usual no service) I could only text, not make calls or access data. Anyone else having problems and know a way to fix this?

Change "LTE only" to "LTE/GSM auto (PRL)" if you want to make phone calls and send SMS messages.
Working for me but kind of slow. Stock radio .33 :victory: problem if I restart I have to do some manual stuff
You have LTE only on and if you have that selected, you can't make calls, duh!
Use this thread, use the search tool to search within the thread and you'll be, "LTEing" in no time.

you can use this app to make things easier https://play.google.com/store/apps/...etcode&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd
Are you using stock 4.2.2 with the .33 radio? I had problems trying that. You need a custom ROM. I believe CM and AOKP will work with LTE. Once I got off stock it worked like a charm.

I tried changing the build.prop file, changing the network to LTE/GSM and still nothing. However, I did fix the problem by installing a cyanogen based ROM called nexus power, and it happened to have the T-Mobile LTE APN on its list. I was using the PAC ROM before, which has CM10 in it, but I guess it didn't play nice. Oh well, I'm enjoying the LTE thanks for the help

Done a lot of traveling in nyc for the past 2 weeks with LTE on and I could say that they are slowly lighting this bish up. Im able to connect to LTE virtually everywhere in Brooklyn and about 95% of lower-mid Manhattan.
Heck I even went to see my folks up in Rockland county yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by receiving LTE there too!
Have fun scavenging for those towers.

[Q] Get LTE speed on cyanogenmod running on Galaxy Sr

So I have a Galaxy S4 Sgh-i337m (Canadian version) that have a custom recovery(clockwork touch 6) and is rooted. On that phone I have cyanogenmod 10.2 and I've been trying to get an LTE speed without success. I've seen the posts that tell me to change my apn but it haven't work. Currently when I switch data on I either get 4G or H+. I made speed test and the maximum I got is 10MBPS normally it should be around 30 to 75MBPS. So can someone help me get LTE speeds here's a photo of my current APN?
Could be a bunch of issues. Is the network mode set correct? I have noticed at times it is set to 4G to save battery. I have had times after flashing a ROM not connecting to the lte towers until after making a call. Another fix is resetting to default in apn.
Sent from my Nexus 10
Unless they've added an LTE symbol...on CyanogenMod 4G means LTE.
On touchwiz when it displays 4G its pretty much H+, Samsung just likes to make it look better
However you are right...your speed tests aren't lte speeds

When you see 4G on the status bar go to settings >about device>status. Network type should say umts% for 3g, hspda% for hspa+ or lte% for LTE (The % represents a frequency). Then you'll know for sure.
