Has anyone gotten this to work. I have heard that some people have gotten it to work and some reviews on google play say it works perfectly. The video it shows you should be able to switch between windows 8 gestures/splashtop gestures.
I installed Windows 8 the other day and I'm loving it. But splashtop says windows 8 gestures work but I don't see that option. I've installed/re-installed the app on my tablet and the pc streamer. I've gone through all the settings and haven't found it either. Has anyone here successfully got it working?
Thanks.

It doesn't work natively like it should. Swiping just moves the cursor. The only way I can semi swipe is doing hold and drag mode and using two or three fingers. The the way the surface tablets work and the video works isn't working that way.
Everything is updated. I'm sorry if I sound stupid and if it's supposed to just work. But for some reason it does not for me.
I have the same problem. No Windows 8 touchscreen mode like others say.

It does work I have it. At first its cool but after a while gets boring. If you want windows 8 on a tablet get a windows 8 tablet . Which is exactly waht im about to do sell my tf300 And buy me a surface notjing beats having the real thing.

It's like the other guy says there is no option and it just natively doesn't work. The smoothness of android and swiping between screens or using the browser is perfect. The only way I can somewhat imitate it on windows 8 splashtop is to use two fingers to scroll and I think 3 to swipe across the screen and even then it's not very fluid.
By any chance did you just update to the newest firmware or are you on the previous one or an earlier one? I updated mine. But you are correct. I suppose if you really want the true windows experience get a windows 8 tablet/surface rt/ or surface pro. Eventually I probably will but I still really like android.
Works for me, it's just slow and laggy

Any experiments with Ubuntu on Nexus 7?
I imagine Complete Linux Installer would work. It runs through VNC, but other than that it should be fine. Just depends on what you wish to do with it

My Nexus 7 is envious of the Touchpad. >_>
I imagine it would be really annoying to use on a tablet this small (compared to a 10" that is).

Very true, hence the reason why I never used it on my TF101. I'm just saying it would be even worse Android is meant for small screens, "normal" Linux distros are meant for normal laptop screens and desktops, also the biggest difference that separates the two are the interfacing options: Android is meant to use a touch interface, whereas Ubuntu and "normal" Linux distros are mean for a mouse and keyboard. I used to use Ubuntu on my Asus eeePC 1005HA before I got my TF101 and it was still a pain in the ass.
Yea, both devices would run Ubuntu fine, but you would need a mouse/keyboard for any sort of functionality.
I can't seem to install ubuntu on my Nexus 7, I'm using the app from the market. When I try to install it just says root access required to run this script. I have rooted my nexus with Super User installed and working.
Has anyone tried actually compiling a ubuntu compatible kernel?
I see there are some mentions of nexus7 kernel source.. perhaps ubuntu or mer/PA could be run natively
it will be done soon .,.,just wait and don't stop searching

Looks like it may be possible... eventually
I can't wait for it!

Been mucking about with Xbmc for android on the s3 and although it's still a little buggy I reckon it has great potential.
One thing that's annoying me though is that I can get any scrapers to work. It searches for stuff i don't have and it's not the way folders are set up because they work fine on the pc. But I won't go into that just now.
Been using the wii remote to control it and it works pretty good but there's no keyboard.
Then I did a wee test with my dad's tablet, using that as the remote and it worked perfect. Bit draft me going out buying another android phone just to use as a remote though.
Just wondering what everyone else is using or if anyone has any ideas?
Cheers

I've got XBMC. Works quite well. I have the same aeon Skin as my desktop, something my Raspberry Pi couldn't handle. The only issue is in that skin, you need to press cursors to access certain menus and that is not working very well as I dont have cursors in the app. Other than that its fine though. All my movie and TV info is there.
I recently got the XBMC remote app. Thats great. Can scroll stuff without changing the display. Queue things up. Its actually much better than the hardware keyboard/remote I have, which awesomely since I have an S3, also works with XBMC for android
All in all, it needs some thought around control functions but other than that pretty neat. One thing I would like with the skin is 2x movies secti
ons via the skin rather than via the list. One for on VPN externally and one whilst local. That way I wouldnt have 2 of everything like I do now in the same folder

With xbmc I struggled to get h.264 decoded with any consistency. Sometimes had to reboot a few times. Just got it sorted after 2 weeks without an amp (which is why I used pi anyway) then replacement amp came
But back on topic, xbmc have some work to do but it'll be great on the s3

Is there anyway to make the Nexus 7 work like a monitor on my win7 64bit computer? I have searched the Web for this for quite a time but haven't seen anything yet. I would like to use it as a kind of "media controller" so I can have Spotify (desktop version) or winamp there to change music while playing games at the computer.
The reason why I want it with the computer and not as a separate device connected to my speakers is I want sound from my computer as well.
I hope you understand what I mean//Alvin
There are plenty remotes for that in play store.... i have one for vlc and one for spotify on my tab but its sent for repairs and i dont remember the names of them
Well that would work too. Do anyone have any favourites? The problem with Spotify is that I don't have premium so I can't use the official "stuff"
My best tip is to try a few either til you find one that fits you or you get tip..... search and look at the pics in play store.... read the reviews..

Can you use the touch in any of these?
Splashtop Remote or Unified Remote should work.

yes Splashtop HD(displays pc screen on tab),unified remote(just to control mouse, keyboard, apps) are best one.
Also you can use teamviewer, gpp remote.
Testing iDisplay, if that doesn't do it for me I will test the rest of your advices.
Sorry if my English is messed up. Not native language.

Don't try that.splashtop is better than that.
I have tried idisplay couple of times but don't know why my laptop hangs every time

Try PocketCloud. I use it for server admin quite a lot.

This is my first post, and yes, I really did watch the noob video at the beginning. I browsed through the Nexus 7 General, Nexus 7 Q&A/Troubleshooting, and a few other Nexus 7 forums and didn't find any discussion on this topic. I'm not sure what the term is for what I'm searching for so I admit tthat may have thwarted my search attempts. What I'm referring to is the Galaxy Note's ability to run 2 apps simultaneously, each taking up half the screen. My question is, can that be done on a Nexus 7?

Well, the galaxy note can only do it with s-app's so it's in reality rather gimmicky and not very practical. AOSPA rom has a multi-tasking implementation that you may want to explore, called halo, which works for ANY app. It enables an app to be opened in a small window in the center of the screen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I13bKSTrNX0
With an AOKP nav bar (from AOKP or all-in-one roms) you can add a "last app" button that will allow you to quickly switch back and forth between two apps which I feel like is a much more practical form of multi tasking. Just think of a netbook with a 10" screen, you dont have enough screen real estate to have two windows open side by side most of the time. Being able to toggle between two quickly would be the best thing.
Well, the default 'recent apps' button in Jellybean works fine for that, but I watch a lot of hours-long debates on YouTube and hate the way it pauses the video every time I switch briefly to another app (say, to reply to an email or to open a browser). Is there a way to keep YouTube videos running in the background so the audio keeps playing even when the YouTube app isn't showing on the screen, or indeed even when the screen is locked?

There was a YouTube that had that. Last I saw it was when I used Paranoid Android. It would also keep audio on when the screen was off. I'd if it was a modified YouTube app though.

There is also an app in the market calls floating youtube. Popup player.
It plays your youtube videos in a resizeable window.
It will stay playing on top of other apps.
It does have some bugs, but it is free.

Hey thanks! Just downloaded and tried it out, it's exactly what I was looking for. Really appreciate the quick responses, guys.
Hi,
So xbmc on the ouya is pretty much the best experience i´ve gotten so far on a small setup! love it.
But when i install the netflix apk, its really hard / impossible to navigate with the D-pad, plus the quality of the stream seems to be aimed at mobile phones. Anyone gotten a better APK where you can browse with the d-pad and get a good quality stream?
And youtube, i managed to install the youtube APK, and the streams are looking great, but i cant login, plus it seems i just find the stock mobile version, ive heard that the google tv is alot better, but does it enable log in as well?
Sorry for the wall of text, but these are the 2 missing features i really want.
I have installed the tv versions of both apps and they are easier to navigate. No problem logging in but I do have the google store mod.
Netflix quality can be poor at times.

This was the same version I had already. It still doesn't work well with controller without touch pad and quality still sucks for a tv unfortunately
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Did you ever figure this out? My wife hates me for putting for taking out our ****ty streamer and replacing it with the Ouya. On Netflix, can't scroll through right or left when picking when you want to watch and can't scroll down to select episodes of TV shows when there is more than 5-6.

The easiest solution I have found it just have a bluetooth mouse. You can just drag the screen up and down, etc as if you were touching the screen. It works pretty well.
Or you can use the touchpad of the controller to scroll. Double tab and then drag up. It's a bit sluggish but it works.
The only problem I have is that the playback stops if the controller turns itself off.
using netflix apk 1.8.1
i got the 1.8.1 working with no playback issues, and with some use of ouya control, does not pause when the control turns off.
My only gripe is the subtitles are very small... can any dev can do a modified netflix 1.8.1 apk with bigger fonts?
