Has anyone seen this on their "new" Nexus 4? I just got mine today and upon taking it out of the delivery box, I see the phone box has been re-sealed. Looks like there's security tape that was been cut under the top one.
Return it. You never know what happened. I bet Google will give you a new one right away.

I thought that was because of quality control on the assembly line to ensure the units are shipping like they should. I could be wrong. I bought mine "used" so I wouldn't know

Since they are out of stock.. they might now be selling the phones people have RMA'd. Tweak whatever issues were, flash the phone and there it goes to another customer.
May be.

No, probably not. And if they were doing this I don't think they would be stupid enough to make it so obvious.
Opened the box and it definitely was taken out before. Dust and fingerprint on the screen. All the other packaged material looks untouched and sealed though.
Lift the finger print and find out who it was!

Don't know why the box was opened. No need to RMA IMO. There's no real way to prove to Google it was tampered with before you received it.

I got mine in the same package with those black tapes. I bought mine from eBay and it was supposed to be "Brand new, unopened and sealed". I asked the seller why it was shipped that way and told me that he received it from Google that way packaged.
@OP
Have you bought your directly from Google?
The tape on the back of mine was also doubled, but the protective plastic around the phone was not touched and there were no finger prints on the phone. I read on another forum that a number people had the double tape on the back.

I called Google twice. First time was right when I saw after taking it out of the delivery box. I haven't opened up the phone box yet @ this point. The guy didn't seem to know why there would be double security tape with the one under being cut open. His one guess is that maybe they opened it to setup my account/link my account so that it'll be ready to go when I take it out. It seems weird to me that they would have to do that manually if that was the reason. I told him I'll take some pictures of the box and send them (ones you see here).
Waited a 6 hours with no response so I called in again. Talked to some lady this time that had no clue what the problem was. I asked to RMA the phone and she said she'll put the RMA through. I asked if I can open the box to see if it was used. She said yeah and I can still RMA it. No email confirmation about the RMA yet though.
When I opened the box I found dust/finger prints on the screen protector. Turned it on and no account info was set (so there goes that first guy's theory). So now I'm waiting for my RMA. Am I suppose to get some sort of email confirmation?
Did you check the battery history? I didn't have double tape, but I saw about 6 minutes of prior use, hooked up to a charger. I'm sure it's just QC, but if you have a longer history, maybe that's something more suspicious?
I took a screenshot but forgot to copy it off the phone before unlocking.
How does the phone work? Got a year to change it out
Thats strange. However i wouldnt mind it if the device was in perfect condition ..
Also, that "theory" the Google guy gave you must be the most ridiculous thing ive ever heard.

seriously.... all these posts and people didnt notice yet?
for those of you that bought it on the play store.... didnt you noticed that upon checkout there was a checkbox for "Sync this device to my google account"??? how do you think google will do that? they dont manufacture it and flash it just for you. :silly:
when you order that phone, they grab a new one "off the shelve", open the box, sync it to your account, re-seal the package and mail it to you.

Did you read? He said that when he turned it on no account info was set
I dont mean to be rude or anything, but it's literally spelled out.
BTW: Google does the account setup remotely. No people need to be involved and touching your phone. Same way amazon does it for kindles (I think...correct me if i'm wrong)
lopoomm satirical
To all of the confusion going on about this about a package looking like it was resealed I would like to clear some things up.
1. Google does NOT refurbish devices. They send new in box items for RMA's and for new orders.
2. Google is more than happy to exchange your device if you feel it has been tampered with during shipping such as broken seals.
3. Sometimes when you select the option to have your device synced with a Google Account the security seals may be broken. It's usually not a problem, but feel free to contact them and have it replaced if you're worried.
I know this all from personal experiences with Google. Hope you all read this and get some clarification.

Hello all. I guess by now you have heard of the glass separation issue with the I/O Limited 10.1 Galaxy Tab?
If not, see hxxp://androidcommunity.com/displays-breaking-on-galaxy-tab-10-1-google-io-limited-edition-20110527/
I was just wondering if others have experienced this yet and what can be done about it?
The upper right corner is the only concern I have on my unit. It is not that bad now, but what about a month from now. Can I glue it myself?
Your thoughts? Thank you all.
I got the same issue. I am about to call Samsung support about it.

Can you post your results with Samsung?
Thank you
Mine was separating pretty badly on the top left and right corners. I called Samsung on the number on the bottom of the tablet; they opened a repair ticket and emailed me a UPS prepaid label to send it back.
A week later UPS delivered a replacement unit. One corner is ever so slightly not flush but it's nowhere near as bad as it was and I'm just going to live with that.
Did you get back an IO tab?
Uplinked through my mind
I'm so glad this thread is here. I didn't even know this was an issue/problem. My only concern is will Samsung send me a replacement while I'm working and living overseas in China? Moving in 3 weeks.

Was it again an i/o special edition?
Yes, it was an I/O model. Came in the exact same packaging and everything, just like when I pickd up the first one at I/O.
Has this issue gotten worse for those who have it? I recently purchased a 'used' IO Tab from someone and when I got it I specifically checked for screen separation and noticed none.
Only a few hours into using it I noticed the bend above the port to charge the device. Now I have to make a concious effort not to hold it on that side.
So, did it only get worse, or should I be through the worst at this point and it'll just be a little 'off' from now on out?
I also had that problem, i called them 2 weeks ago and they helped me get a replacement unit, which just arrived yesterday. But the replacement has the screen coming out of the body of the unit worse than the one i sent in. I think it just has a deep manufacturing flaw. Im not even gonna bother sending it in again. a 2 week wait without the tablet just to get another with the same problem... It works fine either way so might just be worth it to hold onto it.

Well that sucks. I wonder if it's only present in the IO Limited Editions (haven't noticed any complaints from the NYC purchasers). I guess we'll find out in a matter of days.
Retail tab owner here
I bought mine in union square, and I have been monitoring a possible glass separation very carefully. I am happy to report my tab has so far been unaffected by this issue..
Keep in mind all that the Google I/O tabs where all hand made vs the ones being sold now. From my understanding they are fixing the issues. I got my labels just Friday because I got busy. Should be sending mine out tomorrow. Will give you all update on what happens.

I'm UK based.*
I called the number on the back of the tab and at first the guy told me that I couldn't get it shipped back to the UK. I asked him to double check and he came back and said that in fact they could send it back to me.*
I gave him my address and all the information and he repeated it back to me and said to wait for the ticket email to confirm.*
When I got the email it didn't have the right address - it obviously was not liked by their system as the road address and town where right but the state was Texas!*
I am also not clear on if I am meant to ship it to them or they are going to pick it up.*
I will call them back shortly and try to sort out the address and clarify but has anyone else spoken to anyone in support about an international return and repair? And if anyone had a direct email for someone at samsung support so I can send them my address in typed form that would be really helpful! Thanks.*
So I called Samsung back and they pushed through the shipping for me.
It turns out their system does have the correct address but the email sent out wasn't formatted for international addresses so that is why it was messed up.
I have scheduled my UPS delivery for Friday (tomorrow)... I didn't include the original box - I wrapped the galaxy tab in lots and lots of bubble wrap and put it in another box as I wanted to keep the original box if I ever decide to resell it in the future and I wasn't sure if I would get the box back.
I just hope that I don't get another new tab back which has the same fault - but I can't complain about Samsung's customer service. They were very very helpful and very very fast! I mean they are paying for international shipping to the US and back again so I am happy

I had the screen separation problem as well. I called up Samsung and after numerous calls I was able to ship mine to Samsung and have it replaced. I just received the tablet yesterday and it came with a completely different build than the one I received at Google IO. One difference was that I didn't have the option to select the stock Android wallpapers like I had with my previous unit. The only option I had for wallpapers were ones that Samsung provided. The build didn't seem as "buggy" as the one I got at Google IO but it's a little disconcerting that there are so many builds of 3.0.1 for the same device from the same manufacturer. Also I swear the device seems thicker than the one I got at Google IO. I'll need to compare it with my friend's iPad 2 to be sure.

so i decided to buy a nexus 7 and ordered one through google play store, amazingly recieved mine in 2 days, when i recieved box it had 2 seals on each side and one of each was cut open and other was on top as shown clearly in pics attached, well i started using it, and next day i opened the back of tab and to my surprise the seal sticker on the screws were tempered already as the screwdrver had been used to opem the screws, that really made me feel screwed, i paid for a brand new unit and what i got is a refurbished unit, wtf google i called them and talked to representative when i told him about seals on screws he put me on hold for good 10 minutes and came back telling me i talked to my 2 supervisors and they say we do not ship refurbished unit we even send replacement units in warrenty as new not refurbished then i insisted again and he put me on hold again came back again telling me i talked to my supervisor and he told me that opening back voids the warrenty i said it pops off i did not unscrew anything he said it still voids warrenty i said ok lets just forget about if i popped back off say i id not do that please explain me the 2 seals on box one of which is cut open, then he ws like it might have been opened to check the screen issues we had in past, i was like no im not satisfied jjust gimme email address so i can send you pics and show you what i am trying to tell you, so he sent me email and i sent him these pics and waiting to see what they say. only reason im pissed is that i paid full price for a brand new unit and what i get is a refurbished unit wtf.. lets see what happens now, anyone else experienced same?
for some people it doesnt matter, but for me it is a concern...
I agree with you. You paid for a new N7 not a refurbished one! If I got that unit, it would have gone straight back. To start with, it has been sent back for a reason, more than likely screen lift. Possibly other faults with it.
I did read somewhere on here that open the back does not void the warranty because it's meant to be easily accessible, as long as you don't mess around with any of the internals.
Even if they don't want to replace it, you should at least get some money off. It's not your fault that someone has tightened the screws up......
Send it back....

Send it back and get one from a store. Mines was a C80 batch and had a different box (easy to open) with only one seal:
First thing I checked was to make sure the seal is intact, before I purchased the tablet.
Also, why did you had to tell them about screws and other things? The discussion should of stopped right at the multiple scotch tapes. Personally, I would've not opened the box. Now, they will probably charge you a stocking fee because of that or not even refund it saying that you opened the case heh. They are in panic mode due to fairly high number of returned tablets, so I guess they don't like to hear "I want an exchange/refund."
Yes, they do rework the affected units and resell them as new. If you're not happy then return it. The latest one I bought was obviously a rework since it had fingerprints all over but since it didn't have, bad pixels, etc. I kept it.
Yes, I get those too. The seal is different, when I peel it off I can clearly see the original transparent seal under it. Opened the back cover, warranty sticker on the screw is there untouch. Also, there's some finger print mark on the copper shield.
If this is reworked unit then I can say they still failed at it because mine has obvious screen lift. I fixed the screen with super glue and all is fine. But got to say that even their rework team is not competent enough. Wtf Asus?

That's exactly what I'm saying.
They can't resell used products and label them as new. That's a huge FTC violation. The reason they repackaged them is to attempt to fix the screen lift, whether it worked or not, you decide, but if you're wondering. Then that's why.

well the most ridiculous art is that after waiting for 2 days to hear back from google i contacted them again today and as soon as i started that i emailed you 2 days ago and have not heard back since, he was like yes i see you sent email and just 5 minutes ago your mail was picked and being worked on so just give it some time and you will see response i said ok fine ill give it 24 more hours, lets see what they say, i checked my unit is c60 so i definitely recieved an old reworked unit after paying full brand new price.... i definitely want a replacement unit mr.google and this time you better send me a new unit... i did read about screen lifts and then noticed a little screen lift on left side of screen it is lifted up from the frame but the right side is fine, i ushed it and it went back in but after an hour or so its back up... so this definitely is a reworked unit which was a total fail...

well my unit is c60 batch i checked. so i havent heard back from google yet total of 4 days now very lousy google service to catchup with customer`s complaints. i will try my best to return it without having to pay restocking fee. will never buy again from google, i would rather pay little extra and buy from store for peace of mind.
I just received my beautiful white N7100 and I purchased through Amazon Prime with Bluetekusa as the seller and I noticed that the box has NO seals on it like I have seen on almost every single unboxing and there was a fingerprint on the screen underneath the screen protector which is why I know that it has been opened... I did receive a US adapter inside the box but I think that they should be sealed and supply that as an external addition IMO... I am just really cautious when it comes to spending $700 on a phone that I have no idea where it came from and it has been opened...But, I am going to keep it and make sure it works correctly because I have been saving up for quite awhile and don't just wanna turn around and ship it right back.. Also, what kind of warranties are offered in the US for a phone like this (if any) cause I would like to be protected from at least mechanical failures... Thanks for any info or suggestions in advance!!

hi. this is my first time posting on xda. i bought 2 galaxy note 2 from gray market(ghills) for me and for my sister. i checked the seals before opening the box. everything is fine and i bought the 2 note after checking it. when i got home i checked everything again and i see that my note 2 is already rooted. it has an app called supersu and i check the custom binary download and it says yes and the system status is also custom instead of official. i checked the other note but it is fine. i texted the owner of the shop where i bought the note and he told me that it is impossible for them to fake the seal of the box. he's also my 'suki' so i am confident in dealing with him. do you think they can fake the seal of the box and gave me a second hand unit? the unit is good as bnew in appearance. it has no dent or hairline scratches. the plastic in the back and in the front where also there when we open the box. even the charger, battery and the headset where still in the plastic just like the other note that i bought and everything is clean.

Ya I am probably over reacting but I am going to start testing it out in about an hour after the battery is fully charged and then I will know for sure if it's a keeper or not... I just have NEVER seen a box like mine on ANY unboxing video with no seals... Usually they have 3 seals... If I root this and install a custom recovery and rom can I get it back to factory state if I find it has problems within the first 30 days?? Cause that's what I had planned anyways and I did call Squaretrade and they said that they could not provide a warranty for my item... Kinda sucks! Any other options guys? Thanks!

Many times imported (read: grey market) phones are opened so they can put a charging adapter in the box. I know my NIB Galaxy Nexus from the beginning of this year (from expansys) had been opened. It was to put a charging adapter in the box.
But the fingerprints are strange and suggest it wasn't NIB. eBay aggressively sides with the buyer, so I'm not surprised you won the case.

I guess in his case there was deceit involved as his phone had a nick on the top. I don't know how that could happen if your only intent was to put a charger in.

no there is no reason to open the box to put the charger in. you put it in the shipping box like a normal person. not open up someones brandnew phone. 100% feedback not there to scam anyone. first time i even opened up a case on anyone. i got my money back and he got his used scratched phone back. i'm glad your fond of 700 dollar used products because i am sure as hell not. and his newly feedback shows other buys saying openbox now. so i'm not the only one
even if they were opened to put a "charger" in state this in the auction number one. and number 2 dont try to reseal the box.
oh and btw hows this for resealing? didnt even try to do a good job lmao look at the double seal. i took this to send to paypal

if the phone looks new and it had the sticker on the front of the screen, who cares if the box was opened.
Everytime a new device comes out, peoples OCD levels goes up.

new phone to the market. i want it sealed. and now that you bring up the sticker, the one that goes on the back battery cover fell right off because of dirt. it has nothing to do with OCD. product used. scratches. why should we have to pay full price for it. if you bought a new car and before you got in it. the dealer put a scratch in it would you still take it? lol

i'm chill. just responding to what others post. you chill.
This is why you buy from a reputable seller (i.e. Newegg). As if "never-msrp" isn't shady enough. Lesson learned, right?
Anyway, glad you got your money back. Not into getting into an idiotic comment war with you. Have a good one and better luck next time.

Hey,
Just though i would share and see if any one else has had the same issues.
Order my nexus 10, arrived on Wednesday the 28th.
Turn up in a soft packaging envelop a little worse for ware, opened it out and pulled out the Nexus 10 box.
First thing i noticed was both of the security/factory seals were broken - the ones that say "Do Not Accept if Broken"
Opened up the box - nexus 10 in there with all accessories.
Second thing i noticed, the screen protectors have a lot of bubbles in them, as if they have been re-applied.
Third thing I noticed was the whole device is covered in alot of dust and finger prints.
Not too please, but all works fine.
Called Google and they are going to replace it for me as a precaution.
I would like to know if any one else has had the same issues?
Thanks
Probably sending out ones that have been returned with backlight bleed.
They wouldn't send out a used unit after paying retail for it. Even replacement ones will be new(at least sure hope not). Sounds more like it was tampered and played with. Did you take a picture by chance? Would love to see how it came in and condition.

Here's pics of the one I got at Walmart. It's got really bad light bleed in the bottom right corner and is going back.

There is no reason for Walmart employees to be breaking the seal and tampering with it. I would understand a store like Gamestop. When they first started selling Primes they had to break the seals to side load their games that was advertised that came with the bundle. Walmart doesn't have anything exclusive with Google other then being an authorized to sell them.
Edit:Maybe you can ask them why the seals are broken when you do return it.

Help, my nexus 4 never arrived from Google!
Okay this is a bit weird, but I ordered my nexus on Saturday, and yesterday, while at school, I received a shipping confirmation email from Google. I checked the tracking number in the email and it said the phone was already delivered. I was excited that my phone was there but worried because I wanted to have time to make a signature required. So I arrived home probably 6 hours later and there was no package. I checked near my apartment, near both entrances of my building and in bushes. I'm hoping it wasn't stolen, but I emailed Google, thinking maybe they gave me the wrong tracking number since it was a strange situation. They said no, so I called ups they said all they could do was have Google start a tracer? What is that? Will it find my phone? I'm so annoyed because shipping times just went up so a replacement will tale even longer.

Wow. that is weird, sorry to hear that.
I really think Google should of made it so a signature is required.. it's a pretty expensive package, and for UPS just to be able to leave it in front of your door is just stupid.. especially if you live in a bad area.. smh.
Did you check your leasing office? Maybe UPS dropped it off their? Call them and make them track is what truck and driver it was with and ask them where he dropped the box off at?
I think tracer makes the ups driver go back to all of his stops and look for it.
I usually have me packages auto signed online and remove that option when the package is expensive. Which is what I did with my last nexus. This time it was delivered before I could do that.
Oh well, I think Google gives me a refund and if ups finds it, they send it back to Google.
What probably happened is that they gave it to the wrong apartment and that person got a very nice Valentine's day present

Sorry to hear about this. A tracer for UPS will take up to 2 weeks. It has nothing to do with the driver. They basically go back through their tracking information and check each place where the package was scanned to see if they can find a clue. Not sure what your options are if that turns up negative. If the driver verifies he left it at your address it is almost impossible to prove it was stolen. Good luck.
Ha, don't give UPS so much faith. (Worked there for a summer during college).. All a "tracer" is going to do, is have the central office ask the drive what he did with the package. They will check the scan logs, to see if there are any note of whether the package was damaged or destroyed (for security reasons, any packages that become open at a UPS warehouse are Destroyed, but not before the employees pick through it) They might tell you that the driver is going to trace his steps for that day, but he won't He' can and probably will just say "I left it in front of the door" since there was no Signature Required for the package, technically UPS is not liable past the point of delivery, and as far as Google knows the package was properly delivered.
So its really a coin flip on what could happen. Heads UPS will probably claim they delivered the package to the proper location, and they are not responsible for what happens to it after that point, that's why they tell you to make arrangement for arrival of packages for when you are not home (ie: leave a note for the UPS drive to drop at a neighbors or to try back another day, or have a friend wait for the package) Or Tails (And this is highly unlikely) They will take fault for that package being misplaced and inform the shipper (Google) but packages sent via UPS or usually only Insured up to $100 (Might be different since the shipper is Google)
Words of advice: Go to UPS.com and Sign up for a My Choice account... Anytime you have a package sent to youUPS will email you the day before its Delivered, and they will email you the day it is delivered. Also, with a My Choice account you have the option of changing the Delivery options, so that you can have it held at a local UPS Customer Service Center for pick-up. This is very useful if you live in apartments.
Best of Luck, hope things go your way.

In the UK, Google used TNT and a signature was required.

Yup, same here. TNT definitely required a signature.
A tracer is usually done when a package has not been delivered, and does not have any recent scan activity at a center.
They usually send an urgent message to the center it was last scanned at and the management conducts an investigation to who handled the package last to find out where it went.
If you claimed damage they may send someone over to inspect the damage. If you claimed loss I don't know how they conduct the tracer to confirm that the package is lost. Perhaps they might ask or send the delivery driver to confirm where and when he dropped the package.

Well last time I ordered a nexus 4 (this one was for my wife) I required a signature and they delivered it anyway saying it was signed by m8 it or something that obviously wasn't a name.
So this time I was going to reroute it, but like I said before it was delivered before I knew it was shipped.
Anyway, I think Google covers lost OR stolen deliveries, so if ups doesn't try to look for it and claims they are not at fault and that it was stolen, I think Google still gives me a refund. We will see, still waiting for the rep I was emailing to respond.
