Hey guys just wondering what the speeds/battery would be like if I used a ssd and a otg cable any one tried it yet?
Also, I'm not thinking about stripping a otg cable down to see the power cables' slice'ing them and putting a USB on them the red and black to power the USB drive, and the data cables still in tact so then I could plug the power source in to to say a USB charger at 3v to power let's say a external HD and the otg cable into the HD '
So there would be 2usbs from the otg cable one conexcted to the red and black and the rest
Left as it is to send the data' would this be possible?
Thanks amatris.

ook so this might be a bit hard to follow but here goes. ok i got a coffe mug thatkeeps coffee warm its a usb that plugs into either a usb port or a 12v adapter for ciggarette lighter. and i dont have a car charger for my hd2 so i plugged my usb into the 12v adapter witch has obviously a usb in the back you simply plug a usb into ok so i tried this to see if it would charge my phone and it didnt / no big deal soooo i plug my usb into my laptop to charge my phone ...not working not the battery wont hold a charge instead its not even showing the charge icon on the batt indicator like its not plugged in ....thought maybe i messed the usb end of the plug up plugging it into the 12 adapter for the coffee mug so i tried a second plug that had nothing to do with the experiment and its doing the same thing acting like its not even plugged in ...so did i fry somthing? batt is low but seems to be fine phone works fine other than the no charge issue and no anomalies occured when it plugged into the 12v adapter
update when charger plugged in says plug in charger confirming it doesnt know its plugged in

Sounds like you fell victim to the poor quality of the microUSB port on the HD2. If you can, I would re-flash back to WinMo6.5 and send it in for a warranty repair. If not, you're next best choice would be to send it into a 3rd party repair shop. =/ Sorry.
well this is the usb chord im talking about not the microusb

What? You plug the USB cord into the microUSB port and you're not getting any reactions. Sounds like the microUSB port is broken...
nonono ok have coffe mug with usb charger and 12v adapter you plug usb into i plugged usb from my usb data / charging cable into the usb 12v adapter to see if adapter would charge phone and now the phone says plug in charger when already plugged in like its not recognizing the charger is plugged in on both usb data cable i used to try the 12v adapter AND seperate charger that had nothing to do with adapter and the usb charger cable plugs into the phone
oooh ok where i plug the cable into is the microusb port i get it ... ok that seems to be fine to it was working perfect until i tried to use the usb 12v adapter to try charging the phone could the adapter have fried the charger hardware in the phone ?

Possible, the voltage is pretty high and could conceivable short your charging circuit...
All of the USB adapter should be outputting about the same since the USB ports are standardized for electrical output. I suspect your USB data cable could be at fault. If you phone doesn't react to your USB cable being plugged in, you also may want to try pressing one of the hard keys on your phone so that it can realize that you are plugged in via USB. I have that issue with my phone from time to time and just press one of the hard keys so that the phone knows it is plugged in for charging.
that somthin that can be fixed or is that a throw the phone away problem
believe me i tried ...... i pressed all kinds of buttons and no reaction.... and now the battery died so i cant do anything

I wouldn't throw your phone away... Try a 3rd party repair shop - they should be able to fix it for around $70... Expensive, I know, but it's better than spending $500 on a new phone.
they said if a different charger isnt working the phone is a goner

Definitely not true. They don't know what they're talking about and I wouldn't trust them anymore. Try CellularDr.com. I sent my phone in to repair for the exact same problem and it's in the process of getting fixed now. They even have the part to repair it. I've called and talked to them, they can fix it and they don't care about custom ROMs on the phone.
I recently bought a custom 2 amp charger after the stock one died. Anyways, whenever I plug it in, I noticed that it would ask me whether I wanted to access the USB storage. Apps that need the SD card similarly, would terminate (ex: music).
Is there any way to solve this and to make the phone realize that this is a power outlet charger and not a USB charger? I think that the Epic drew about 650 milliamps or so charging and much smaller over PC (I think about 350 to 400 ish IIRC). It seems to currently only be charging at PC USB speeds as well and not the same rate as the stock charger.
Thanks in advance.
There's a way for the phone to tell if it's connected to a PC or AC adapter depending on a resistor shorting out two pins. Make sure you don't have anything other than the +5V and Ground connected.
I had the same thing happen with a car charger. Bridging / shorting the data pins causes the Epic to see the charger as a regular charger, and not usb for data or charging. This can also be done in the cable, itself, however, then you have the problem of having to cut part of your USB cable and re-tape or heat-shrink tube it.
There's a couple threads discussing similar problems/solutions:

I've unlocked and rooted my Nexus mainly to use extra storage.
Can I use a standard USB cable plugged into the OTG cable for charging with the wall charger?
Also with the extra power the charger gives out will it be safe to use for charging my Kindle?
Thanks

You should be okay using the 2.0 USB with the OTG charger... There quite consistent. And It would also be the same on your kindle. If anything it may charge quicker. But if your not entirely sure ? Google it.
I've interchangeably used the Kindle Fire charger and OEM n7 charger without any issues. I like the KF charger better because it comes with a much longer cable.
Sent from my Nexus 7
Only problem I have seen is the ones with asymmetrical housings from Samsung don't fit well in N7, but you probably could make it work.
I have a 3rd party micro usb cable, it's 6 ft. For the most part it works good except in 2 apps, namely Bad Piggies HD and Modern Combat 3, when I play them while plugged in with this cable I slowly start to lose battery. Like after playing for 10 or perhaps 15 minutes, the battery drains a few percent, but it has been "charging" the whole time.
When I realized this on MC3, I tried plugging in the [short] Asus Micro USB cable, and it no longer drained any battery.
So my question is, are these 3rd party cables just cheap, and can't transmit the 2A over the +/- 5V wires? Is it transmitting something like 1.x amps, and that's why the battery will slowly drain?
Next, what about extension cables? I bought a 6 foot USB 3.0 extension back when I had an Asus Transformer because that short was terribly short. [I got 3.0 because the charger needs the extra 3.0 pins because the transformer grounds a certain pin, and it knows to give it 12V instead of 5V]
When I used my 3.0 extension cable + Asus micro cable, it didn't seem to drop any battery so I'm assuming that the 3.0 cable worked because of the better quality wires.
The problem though is that the 3.0 cable is extremely fat, maybe it's just the cable I bought, or maybe USB 3.0 are just fatter than 2.0? I sure hope not..
But the extra fatness weighs the cord down, so that it's heavier, and I don't want the heavier cord.
I want to be able to use a usb 2.0 extension cable, because I need an extension cord because I want to enable OTG + charging with a micro usb OTG and a USB Y cable, but a standard Y cable is not long enough so that I need a extension cord, but the 3.0 extension I have now is fat [and thus heavier].
So the bottom line: Can I use a 2.0 extension cable to correctly deliver 2A to my N7 to charge correctly?
And if it can, is it only specific brands [name brand cables?] or did I just get bad luck with the 2.0 extension cord I have now [that slowly loses battery while "charging" and using demanding apps]? Or was it too long? I think it also is 6 feet.. I almost need the 6 feet, because 3 feet is usually too short.
Thanks!
So, I apparently did something very stupid with my new Nexus 7.
I have a few 1 TB external hard drives, which don't get enough power via an OTG adapter from the Nexus 7 to run. So, I purchased a two into one cable -- that is, a cable that combines two male USB A plugs into one Micro USB B plug so that a USB 3.0 hard drive can use two USB 2.0 ports to have enough power. I had planned to use this to enable use of the hard drives with the Nexus 7 while traveling by plugging one cable in the tablet and the other into a charger.
When I got the cable I tested it by plugging one of the USB A plugs into my Nexus 7, and then I plugged the other into my computer's USB port. The Nexus 7 promptly shut down, the computer complained of a power surge on the USB port, and a distinct smell of melted plastic came from the computer's USB port. I guess the combining cable didn't combine so much as it just acted like a double headed male A USB cable and shorted things out?
The Nexus 7 refused to restart afterwards until I it plugged it into its charger. It works now, mostly. However, if its battery charge is above about eighty-seven percent then it always reports that it is charging, regardless if it is plugged in or not. And if I plug it into a computer while it is reporting that it is charging I have to restart the tablet to get it to connect to the computer -- I guess it thinks it is connected to a charger and doesn't bother checking for a data connection unless restarted.
The level where it stops thinking it's charging varies somewhat -- I've had it still claim to be charging all the way down to eighty-two percent charge, and by repeatedly opening the battery app over and over again I have been able to get it to notice that it's really not charging all the way up to ninety-one percent, but no higher, and I have to open and close the battery app an increasing number of times for every percent that it goes up over eighty-seven before it will notice it's not charging.
Any idea what kind of damage I'm looking at? How to fix it? Whether I can get the warranty people to fix it free of charge? If yes, whether they will send me a new one or just fix the one I have? Whether it's worth getting fixed since it mostly still works, and doesn't really bother me as long as it doesn't get worse?
Nothing?
Nothing from anyone?
Try replacing the internal USB plug? About $25. Easy to do your self.
