My wife just got the Nexus 4 the other day and she has problems with a potion of the screen becoming distorted very often. She said it usually happens at least once everytime she is using it. It's with no particular program or doing a certain thing, just random. The phone is stock still. I attatched a picture and you can see at the bottom of the screen. It's not always the bottom, sometimes it's at the top, sometimes bottom. She said it hasn't happened in the middle of the screen (yet). Has this happened to anyone else and does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?
Don't try to fix. Get it replaced.

I had the same problem, but my phone was distorted all over. I returned the original phone they sent me. When I got the new replacement phone after just a few days it acted up the same problem. I returned it to Google and never purchase the Nexus 4 again. I'm glad they gave ma a full refund minus the shipping though. Right now I'm still searching for a good reasonably price phone
Just return it and ask for full refund before your warranty runs out.

but suddenly the whole screen turns yellow for a second then its back to normal
this happened two times in two days
dont know what to do did anyone had this??
Waiting for your opinions.
Given that it's brand new, I'd return it and ask for an exchange.

Hold on, do you mean that the screen gets discolored/dimmed just before the screen out time? If it is then it's normal, otherwise it's manufacturing defect.
Regards.

Did it do it before you started loading apps on the phone? It could be an app conflict. You might want to try a hard reset and see if it still happens before you begin loading apps. You're going to have to start over anyway if you exchange it.
Just recieved my Nexus 7 today and when going to turn it on, I was greeted by a fantastic grey, washed out screen. This can't be normal can it? Has anyone else had this problem and managed to fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have attached an image for people to inspect, and the only reason I am creating a new thread is because I don't think this is the same issue as the other 'screen washed out' thread. Thanks!
Oh wow. There is no easy way to say it but, no, that is not normal. It may be just that the display cable is not connected all the way or that there actually is something wrong with the screen itself. Either way though, I would RMA that. Tell Google to overnight it like the rest of them that are shipping and you want it advance RMAed.
The problems with these devices is unacceptable.

Hmm this is going to seem VERY weird, but just two seconds ago, I got up out of my chair quickly while holding the device and now the screen looks fine. What is going on with the QC with these? Would you reccomend still RMAing it? I am not even joking, I simply stood up with the device and it fixed itself.
EDIT: Well guess what. I left the device off for the duration of just writing this post and it is back to its washed out self. Looks like it's time to RMA!

Yes, definitely. Just because the problem has(or so it appears to have) fixed itself for the time being doesn't mean that the problem won't creep up or just full blown come back right out of warranty/return window. Also, if something like that got through quality control, what else could be wrong with the device? I would still RMA to be sure. Since this problem appears to be coming and going, I would try to send a picture of the problem in action to someone at Google and have them attach it to your RMA. Maybe even try to put your Google email address in there on a piece of paper or something so that they know that you indeed did take the picture because if they recieve it with no apparent problems, they will assume that you are just returning the device and charge you a 15% surcharge.

Your not the only one that has this problem looks like first batch shipments have alot defects and bugs
Thanks very much for your replies! I have used the Google Play 'contact us' page (not sure if this is the best way but it's a start!) to get this RMA going. Very annoyed at the QC on this device and this many glaring issues really doesn't give me high hopes about the replacement either.
Already sent mine back to ebuyer. Had light bleed. So annoying. Rushed them out I think.

i reckon you're very unlucky, since this only happens to a handful amount of people, good luck in ur rma request
Questions go in the Q&A section
I've noticed that the screen responsiveness varies. Sometimes it takes a few touches before it responds other times it responds as expected.
Assume it's user error so are there any tricks/hints when using the N7? Not using a screen protector
+1 on this question.
Not sure if the varying screen response it me (user error) or the N7 itself.
Is anyone else having this problem? Or, as the OP asked, do you have any tricks/hints to share?
It looks like this happens to a bunch of people. It happens to me frequently and I usually just lock the device, pick it up and then unlock it being careful I don't have any fingers on the screen before I hit the button.
I'm not sure if it's a defect or not. Some say it is. I would tend to think so too.
There's another thread on this topic, there I asked this same question.
Do you have a screen protector installed?
If not perhaps you're in a region/area with high electrostatic or humidity, moisture..
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
No offense, but I doubt the electrostatic or humid environment idea since it seems to be solved instantly by turning the screen off and back on.
I have this problem with a screen protector installed. I may remove it and try without it, but I've never had issues with XO Skins before and don't really want to trash a $20 screen protector.
I have this problem without a screen protector on

I've notices laggy screen response on my 1 day old N7. I'm contemplating doing a factory restore/wipe.
I don't have a screen protector but it definitely lacks touch responsiveness.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I have had to on occasion press twice on buttons when the first press doesn't register as well. I've seen that other thread about playing games heating up the tegra chipset affecting screen responsiveness severely, but in my case this is from light usage.
Mine has been pretty responsive so far without any issue. Just got it yesterday.
I've started to notice this issue today for sure. I thought it was my imagination before as I had only gotten it in games but today I got it in tapatalk as well. Thinking about trying for a replacement. I had gotten mine at Walmart so I guess I could go through them for exchange...

I got my 1st one at Wal-Mart too, so I went back there yesterday to get a 2nd one to compare.
It seems to me that I'm not experiencing the lag as often on the 2nd one (I don't play any potentially resource-draining games, so I notice the lag more when I'm reading something and trying to scroll up or down).
I have started to wonder though if, in my case, maybe it's happening because I haven't installed a screen protector yet. I have one on my KFire and don't have the lag/sensitivity problem. So I figure I'll get one installed on my N7 soon and hopefully that'll cure this for me...
I noticed this the last 2-3 days. However, it seems to be only in Chrome browser. I never close my browser, and towards the end of the day, I'll unlock the tab, go into chrome, and I'll have to hit everything twice...keyboard included. I just completely close it out and start it back up, and it's fine again for another day. So it's not a problem for me.
Just had it again and while it was happening I went ahead and enabled the Dev option to show presses and it definitely requires a harder press to respond over time. I believe the digitizer is at fault on this.

Hello , I've had my Nexus 4 for about two weeks now. Tonight I was looking at an app that had a solid white background and I noticed in the upper right portion of my display a small anomaly. It's hard to see it directly in front of you. But if you look at it at an angle from the bottom ( I was laying in bed looking upwards towards the phone) you an kinda see it. It's almost like a line in the screen. Where you can almost see light behind it. It's about a 1/8 inch. It's brighter towards the screen but fades out more in the middle of the screen and doesn't go all the way across. Anyone know anything about this? If I have to send this back for warranty do I need to flash back to stock? Is Google like everyone else or are they cool with the flashing.. I would like to get this fixed. It's small but now I can really notice it... Anyone else got an opinion or thought?

The rule is if you're not happy, get it exchanged. Mine has really barely visible lines on white screens, but I don't really notice it. But I still might give google a call...I have had it since November though...

Called Google last night and ordered a replacement. Is it necessary to return everything to stock? Will they try to give me a hassle over warranty replacement with a custom rom? Yeah now that I've seen it it's driving me crazy lol...

For some reason my screen has a bunch of little squares and lines when my screen is turned off. Seems a little odd but don't know if this is normal? Maybe just how the display is?

Had the same problem. Looked like a crack under the glass. Got a replacement that is much better. I reflashed Mine to stock before sending back though not sure if it's necessary.
DO reflash & relock bootloader.

Anybody else seen this guy in threads just repeating what someone else says?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I have posted in a few spots detailing my screen issue and I'm normally a very decisive person but this time I'm really on the fence and would like some input
About a week and half ago I began to notice a small red airbrush looking circle in the middle of my screen. It was centered left to right and favoring the bottom half of the screen. It appeared on dark backgrounds only. Over the next 12 hours it came and went, varying in intensity. Of course I researched it and found numerous accounts of a similar phenomenon where a blue dot was appearing on Moto X 2014 phone's and it was caused by blunt force to the screen or back of the phone. That couldn't possibly be my cause, it just didn't happen. I searched here for the Pure and found a single thread talking again about the "blue blemish" but that's it.
I immediately make up my mind it is not something I'm going to live with as I couldn't keep my eyes off of it. My wife, of course, said I was being to picky but she's lived with a dead pixel on her iPhone since it was brand new. So I don't respect her input here. Well I wake up the next day and it's gone. Totally gone. I tell myself maybe it was a fluke. Maybe I was too drunk and exaggerating things. I said F-it, I'll just let it ride. 8 days later, it reappeared first thing in the morning. I had a very busy day so the next time I picked up my phone around lunchtime it was gone and has not resurfaced. I called Motorola and they immediately offered a replacement which I agreed to and it's en route as we speak.
So here's the thing. I like this phone more than any other phone I've ever owned. I rooted it, I have it set up just like I want it and for the first time I am confident I'll use this phone for years instead of just months like I normally do. I just don't know how I feel taking a refurbished phone in its place. I normally don't balk at the idea but I had two bad LG G4's in a row with reception issues and now this Pure I'm considering trading in has a screen issue that is only around 1% of the time. If I return this one, it could easily pass the tests and get sent back out to someone else. Everything else about this phone is acceptable to me.
Would you take the refurbished one or keep this one? I still have the warranty in tact if the screen acts up worse down the road. I have to mail back the phone within 5 days so I'll have limited time to test it out.

Go with the refurbished unit. You said the screen was really bugging you. You can always get another replacement if you don't like the one they send you.
