Hello Everyone,
New guy to Android, have experience with Windows Mobile so this is all new for me. Have the following phone and description:
Model: SGY GT-S5360L
Version: S5360LUHKJ2
Kernel: 2.6.35.7
[email protected]#1
Build: GINGERBREAD.UHKJ2
I would like to root this phone but not use a custom ROM until I better understand and read more about custom ROMS. Before I root this phone I would like to backup my stock ROM on my SD card. I need a safe way to do both of these things. I read somewhere in this forum about a similar request from someone doing this for his son's Galaxy Y S5360L, but he has a different version. Can you please tell me what to use and the safest way to do both of these things.
Thank you kindly for your help,
MobiManiacs
To backup your rom you'll need cwm (clockworkmod) that is located here
www.mediafire.com/?22sf24gvospcf20
you don't need root to do so to back up your rom you'll need to move cwm to the root of your SD card meaning don't put it in any folders just place it on your SD card
1.Now turn your phone off
2.And hold volume up power and home at the same time this will u will see a screen this is called recovery in this mode touch is disabled and u scroll by using volume up and down and home as select
3.scroll to apply update from SD card and select it
4.scroll to the file u downloaded and select it you will now be in clockwork mod from there scroll to backups and restore and then.backup k now reboot
To root simply enter recovery as I explained above and select apply update from SD card now select the file below and reboot
http://db.tt/WI6uf5rK
Also place on root of SD card
Thanks tingtingin but I do not understand what file I need to get the root (part 4.0
After part 4. Do I need to have a zip file to root the phone and another zip file to unroot? I f I do which files are they and where can I find them?
Thank You,
MobiManiacs

You do need to separate zips to root and unroot I already gave u a link to the root file as for the unroot you'll have to search as I don't use it and I am unsure if it'll work for s5360l as I had a hard time trying to root my phone in the first place
if the reason u want the unroot file is to reclaim your warranty then you don't need it just flash stock rom via odin

Does unroot work for SGY S5360L variant?
Thank You tingtingin, I really appreciate your help. If anyone else has a positive experience with an unroot zip for SGY S5360L variant please let me know. Please reply and let me know if it safely works, including if you have sucessfully unrooted your phone using this zip file.
Thank you,
MobiManiacs
Don't say thanks hit it also
U can test the file yourself nothing's gonna happen at most it simply will not unroot your phone the only reason I haven't is because I have never had the need to unroot my phone

High-end Android phones are pretty damn awesome by themselves. But there’s always a little magic to be had by rooting. For those that are fearless and throw caution to the wind, hop on inside for the quick and relatively painless list of what you need and how to do it…
Let the rooting begin…
1. Download this file — PC36IMG.zip — and copy it to the root of your SD card.
2. Turn off phone. Then power back on holding the power and volume button. **If the PC36IMG files was placed correctly and you successfully booted into the bootloader, you should see text appearing on the screen as the phone automatically checks said file.
3. At the prompt to install the image(s), select “Yes”.
4. Reboot
5. Delete or rename the PC36IMG file so that it won’t automatically try to install it again the next time you venture into bootloader land.
And that’s that. Not nearly as hard or involved as some of the earlier HTC Android devices. EVO 4G owners should try it out and let us know how it goes.

i think thats the main idea of rooting your phone in the first place.
Do you really have to post this in every forum?
That is what the development forum is for. Please delete your threads.

So rooting like this will still give me SU controls, meaning I can use SetCpu? But still with the stock 2.1 sense?
Question about rooting!
1. How do I get Sprint apps back after rooting (such as Sprint TV, Sprint Nav etc.) or are they part of the ROM?
2. How do I backup my phone before rooting? In case I have to return I am sure I will have to unroot it! Is this possible?
I need to root this phone. It has android 2.3.6
I tried searching in google but only CHINESE tutorials came up...
I tried superoneclick, z4root and unlock root. Nothing seems to work for me.
I also tried this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319257
but I can''t start clockworkmod.
I used root checker to see what files I'm missing and it said su and sudo are not found.

thanks this works
Appendix: If you succesfully flash root (or ROM) you can discover that if reboot to recovery, it is back in factory english recovery. If you want upload the chinese recovery flasher to V788D again, it doesn't work. The very simply SOLUTION: 1) after install RE(root explorer) go to /system/ and erase the recovery-from-boot.p file 2) go to system/etc and erase the install-recovery.sh file. 3) on windows XP run the recovery_V788_v2.exe and reflash it again. Reboot phone to recovery and you have got the chinese recovery again ! ! !
Enjoy!

Please can you help a noob - ROM seems extremely small
Hi I have been hunting for a tool to do a "complete" backup of my S3 so I can restore it in one go after playing with other ROMS and get back to Stock easily. So seeing this looked fantastic. I have run steps 1 , 4 and 10 .
The ROM i get is only 27,161 KB , and as the stock rom I flashed was over 1 gb I wonder if I have done something wrong and I am afraid to try flashing this with Odin . Especially when I did a NANDROID Backup from S3 Toolkit and this is 1.6gb .
Any advice would be well received .

is there a chance of a port to cygwin?
I like how the title says it supports any device and then the first post says it supports less than 10 devices.
Creating .tar.md5 will create images that increase binary counter ?
Edit:
Only with custom recovery

Thx for your time
I downloaded the updated.rar & EX File Explorer to transfer the file. My questions are!
1. Is it compulsory to connect to PC to move the file to SDCard or through phone itself i can do this job?
2. Should i move the file to /sdcard/ location ? or inside this there are many sub folders like android, animgifs, appsettings, arm-logs, media, whatsapp, bstfolder etc........which sub folder should i put or direct /sdcard/?
guys pls help me out to resolve this issue
You need to install kies on your PC to receive phone's driver
Connect your phone to the PC
Open kies and wait until it has completed connecting to your phone
Download file update.zip and put it in SDcard not under any folder
Unplugged your phone and shut down it to open recovery mode
use volume up and down, home buttons to choose install update from SDcard, choose update.zip and wait 1s, now reboot your phone and now it's rooted
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda app-developers app
no need to move via pc just use your phone
also don't put it inside any folder - just put it in sdcard root - /mnt/sdcard
why fix it if it ain't broken ?

Just use that app.. all you need to do is.. get that update.zip file to your sdcard.. keep it outside of folders..
you have copied songs , picture files to sdcard right?? same way do this.. either download update file from phone browser.. which will store in download folder.. then move it outside download folder or download it from PC and move it to phone by connecting usb cable or bluetooth or however you send files usually..... then reboot and flash it in stock recovery as instructed in root thread,...

*put it in your sd card directly not in any folder
*switch off ur phone and reboot it holding vol up, power and home buttons together
*do clear data and cash there its important (use volume up down and home keys to navigate)
*now install updates fromsc card>update.zip>ok
