N10 loosing batt while plugged in? - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've noticed lately that my N10 is loosing power even while plugged in. I ended all apps and started a movie using the hdmi cable. The battery was at 58% and was plugged in to the account, the battery under settings showed it was charging using ac. Anyhow, 90 minutes later the battery was at 44%… all radios were shut off as well as everything that was not needed.
This was only to verify the drop I have been seeing lately. I notice the battery dropping quite a bit while only using the Web with it plugged in to the charger. Shouldn't it stay at the same level if not charge while using it connected to the AC charger?
Thanks for any insight.
Ed

If you're watching a movie or playing a game? No, I'd expect a drop in charge.
If you're browsing the web however, and don't have a bunch of processes running, I'd expect it to maintain if not barely charge the battery.
It's been pretty well noted that with the juice used to play games or watch movies the factory charger can't get it done.
I'm getting the pogocable for just that reason. Elsewhere, a user mentioned they watched netflix for an hour while plugged into the pogo charger and it only dropped 1%.

I was reading up on the pogo cable and it mentions it has a voltage control chip installed in the cable. Is it possible that the micro usb cable that came with the nexus might have the same type of thing? I don't know which micro usb cable is the original to my n10, I do still have the original ac transformer. But some of my micro cables don't seem to charge as fast as others. Maybe they have an amp limiting circuit for other equipment?

Charging without Samsung AC Adapter?

I went out of town this week and made sure to grab my USB cable, but left the AC adapter at home figuring I'd just charge off my laptop via usb. Apparently not... I also tried plugging the USB cord into my iPhone AC/usb adapter with no luck. The only thing I've found is that when you turn off the Tab and connect to one of these devices, a green battery indicator will pop up showing that it is charging. Well, after about 16 hours, it made it from 15% all the way up to 48%. Does anyone know any way around turning it off to charge or why it is barely charging when it is off?

Well seeing as it has a 7000mAh battery, just about any run-of-the-mill USB charger isn't going to cut it. The amperage would have higher as well. Now i would hazard that an iPad charger (10 watts) would probably work just fine vs an iPod charger.
Your laptop's USB port isn't providing enough juice to charge fully. With the screen off it will only trickle charge and very slowly at that.
You'll need at least 5 Volt 2 Amp chargers.
You can also try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14890063&postcount=16
Or this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/190522553195?ru...ee-All-Categories&_fvi=1&_rdc=1#ht_3085wt_905
I've ordered both last week but neither have arrived yet. I'll report back.
You need a 5vdc supply that will provide 2A. 10W, not 5w as the previous post said. That adapter on ebay won't help the charge, it just disconnects the data line so it does not change its mode when connected to a computer. There are a lot of power supplies that will work and even more that won't, just made sure it supplies 2a. If you want to charge off your laptop then you will want a Y adapter similar to what is on usb powered hard drives but even then you will need to use 2 usb 2.0 or 3.0 ports and will provably only get 1a out.

Phone doesnt reliably charge when connected to PC

Anyone else notice the phone randomly doesnt charge when plugging it into the computer?
The battery will say charging, the lock screen will say charging, but the battery screen will say not charging and the graph will show a green charging line but draining battery. Replugging the phone in fixes it. I havent had an issue with the wall charger.
Theres nothing wrong with the USB ports, it charged my other phone fine and it charges this phone when it works.
my N4 charges fast when I plug it to my laptop. I connect it to my USB 3.0 port..
PCs aren't designed to charge phones. It may work for a dumbphone with a 500 mAh battery, but it doesn't have the amperage to charge a smartphone efficiently. The charging adapter that comes with the phone is 1200 mA (milliamps), a computer USB port only provides 500 mA (on USB 2.0). On USB 3.0, it provides 900 mA, so it will charge faster, but not nearly as fast still as the 1.2 amp travel adapter.
On top of this, the phone is constantly using battery power while on, so it is very likely that when the screen is on and you are using the phone plugged into the computer, the phone is drawing power faster than the computer is charging it.

That is not what Im talking about. It says charging everywhere except the battery screen where it says not charging, that is obviously a bug. A computer can power a phone fine anyways, they are made to be powered by a USB port.

I had this problem today. The battery was dying fast (Average for this one) and I had popped it into my stereos USB, The battery didn't show the charging sign.
WTF? So I switched to the "Cigarette lighter port" and with a different cable plugged that in. No go. Held in the power button to simulate a battery pull, Still didnt work.
Turned it off, Went back to work and three hours later getting ready to drive home i plugged it in. The phone was getting warm, But the battery charging sign never popped up. I turned it on and the left side (By the sim card) was getting ultra-hot but betterbatterystats said the battery was only feeling at around 101degrees (Normal for this small sun). A minute later it was highly uncomfortable to hold (Just near the sim card area), I thought the battery was going to catch on fire like those youtube videos.
I power cycled once again, the battery charging sign popped up and I breathed a huge sigh of relief. Seconds later the phone ****ing flipped its wig, It kept making the charger plugged in sound and vibrate every half second. I about had a stroke, Thinking it's going critical. ONE MORE POWER CYCLE, Everything is normal.
My earlier experience seemed similar to yours OP, Let me know if your phone melts your hand off and goes all bi-polar like mine did.
I'm having the same problem. It has nothing to do with a computer not being powerful enough to charge it, especially when they aren't even being used such as overnight. It has charged every other smartphone that I've used. It will say that it is charging on the lockscreen and on the settings pulldown but it will just constantly drain battery. I will put it on the charger before bed and wake up 8 hours later and it says it is at 86% with a steady decline in battery. This only happens when connected to my iMac and not when plugged into a wall outlet.
I wouldn't think USB 3.0 improves the charging speed at all, since the protocol still uses USB 2.0
I just remove all the cables and replace them. It seems to solve it.
Same with the AC adapter. I noticed sometime it would say charging USB when I switched. I just unplug everything and plug it back in and it goes back to normal.
/shrug
I havent noticed it getting warm, it just doesnt charge even though it knows its plugged in and is supposed to be charging. It works after replugging it in.
It also seems to charge abnormally slowly.
I wonder if the issue with the phone not working right with Nokia chargers (constantly disconnects and reconnects) is related to this. It may not have anything to do with the Qi standard because the phone just doesnt charge right period.

Charging Problem

I am having trouble charging my tablet. When the tablet is on, I am unable to charge with either the POGO or USB cable. I have also tried other wall chargers for cell phones. I was not using any roms, but had tried out the ktmantra kernel. I have since wiped my tablet using a factory 4.2.2 image from google and am still having the charging problem.
The only way I am able to charge is by charging with the tablet off. It also takes ages to charge (12+hours). Any ideas on what could be causing this? When I plug the POGO cable in, it says it is charging, but the battery percentage continues to drop.

I've readed some comment on another forum from an user that has the same proble, but for him it takes about 10h. Not sure what's wrong.
Are you not able to charge at all or just very slowly? I just noticed that my Nexus is charging very slowly with the Pogo cable I purchased. I may try going back to the usb cable to verify that the problem is with the cable and not with the tablet.
I was getting very slow charge rates with my usb charger. Around 12 hour charge times even when completely powered off. Anyway, my problem was with using a USB extension cable. Since I started plugging it directly into the wall I've been seeing charge times in the 5-6 hour range. My iPad never had an issue with it, but whatever! You might also try a different wall outlet.

I cant seem to solve this problem. I have tried using pogo and usb cables with two different chargers. I have also tried using different wall mounted phone chargers. I am not able to get any positive charge while the tablet is on. Using the battery monitor widget, I used to see a +1800 charge with the pogo, and a bit less with the usb cable. Now, the highest I get is -500.
I am only able to charge when the tablet is off, although very slowly. I had it charging all night, and it is now at 60%
When I plug the pogo cable in, the tablet will say it is charging, but it really isnt doing anything.
Any ideas?

Recalibrate battery? It's probably not going to work though. RMA the tablet as a last resort.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
How can I recalibrate the battery?
Im in Europe until June, so Im assuming it wont be easy to RMA.
There is also a strange thing going on with the usb cable. My computer is unable to detect it as a storage device. When I plug the charger in, it will not show up as charging when the tablet is on. But, I am able to access the tablet via fastboot.
Where is that oficial pogo charger from samsgoogle? 4 month and counting... 2 Biggest companies în the world are unable to produce a simple cable... Hillarious

The N10 charger is a 2 amp charger and most phone chargers are 1 amp chargers. The N10 will charge slowly with a 1 amp charger if it is powered off, however it needs 2 amps to run the N10 and charge at the same time. Also I have found that not all USB cables are created equal, you may want to try another usb cable. I do not know anything about the pogo chargers. Hope this helps.

[Q] Charging takes for ever.

I don't actually suffer from battery life problems like some other owners. My problem is that it takes for ever for my phone to charge. My phone has been charging over USB attached to my computer for 8 hours and is only at 83%. When it's attached to the mains it's pretty much the same story. I'm not running any apps. 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth are turned on though.
How can I resolve this problem?

well, if plugged into a computer/usb, itll take much longer to charge. are you using the original usb chord? when plugged into a wall charger, how long does it take?
Current draw is about 700mah on average. Battery size is 2100mah. So it should take 3 hours to charge with the wall charger.
USB is another story. If you charge and surf at the same time it will be consuming battery rather than charging.
The problem seems to occur when I don't use the original USB wall charger. Are not all USB chargers the same? When I use the original charger, I don't seem to have this problem.
If WiFi was left on while charging on a computer USB port, would this effect the charging speed?

[Q] N7 Discharging even while connected to charger! Help!

Hello community.
I am experiencing this problem since around three weeks. My Nexus 7 won't charge with full speed, I even think it is only charging with lower than the half of the rated 2 amps of the stock charger, or even less. As you can see in the attached screenshot, it behaves like it is receiving zero to none power, but the status sais it is in fact charging... I am using CoolTool to monitor the charge rate. While the screen is on and my tablet is just sitting there idle, it is "charging" with about -50mA (slowly discharging) and while watching youtube videos, it discharges with about 450mA. While the screen is off, it actually charges with arond 400mA MAX. While I was typing this it discharged with around 300mA.
I have not checked the resistance of the stock charger nor the cable, and I have yet to try making myself another fastcharge cable.
I am using the stock charger with the stock charging cable, and I recently upgraded to the latest SlimRom and FauxKernel.
Is this some kind of software failure or is my tablet/charger/cable broken?
Is someone experiencing similar problems?
(I have problems uploading pictures, google drive must be sufficient)

All i can think of is ur using low amp charger try using official 2.1amp charger that came with the device.
