Alright so I got my phone in December and somehow found a way to completely Brick it. So in between reviving my phone back to life (It's fully functional now), I called Google to send me a replacement and they issued me a RMA. But as soon as I un-bricked my phone I called them back and told them to cancel the RMA I don't need replacement device anymore.
So apparently that didn't happen and I just received Google Play order email suggesting my Replacement device has been shipped.
Now here is my issue, I am from Canada so obviously there Tax and shipping charge involved. Although (When comparing with my old Google play order) this time the only charge I see is the full retail amount of the Phone and there is no shipping and tax involved. There is going a charge of $359 on my CC nevertheless.
So here is my question. If I accept the phone from UPS will the Taxes and shipping come back? or Not?
Any feedback on the matter will be highly appreciated. Good day Folks. Long Live Nexus.
If it works you didn't brick it.. If you don't need the RMA anymore just refuse the package and have them send it back.

No wonder Google never has any phones in stock, they are all being RMA for people who "brick" there phone. Oh, or their screen has a "scratch" on it.

I know about that, but I wanted to keep the phone and gift it to my cousin. So that's why I was wondering If I didn't refuse the package and kept it, will I still get charged the tax & the shipping or would it only cost me the retail price of the just phone? Which is $359.

No need to be a sour puss about it. Google's priority is to take care of the customers who DO have a Nexus 4.
And btw thanks for adding nothing relevant to the OP.

I did, the CSR wasn't to sure about it hence she will get in touch with me next week with more info.
I thought someone else probably went through the same situation who would have more insight on the matter but I guess not.

You bought it offline... but not at a store?
i had a similar problem with a phone i had bought recently from t-mobile.
you can take it back to the store you bought it from, if you have the receipt/bank statement proving purchase, it will be easier, though you dont always have to have this is you paid with a credit card.
just make sure that you return it to stock settings, remove root etc and they should accept it without question, well maybe one... whats wrong with it, they may say that it works fine even with the screen lift, simple say that its a manufacturing fault and you want a replacement.
if you get a particularly miffed "team" member simple ask to speak to their manager, i prefer to do this when its close to closing time as they tend to want you out sharpish.
im not 100% on the law but depending on how long you've had the device and how long it took you to notice the defect you may also want to take it to trading standards, usually advising currys of this if you end up hitting a brick wall says to them that you have at least read up on your consumer rights and arent willing to back down.
the trading standards website has a contact number if you want to talk it over with them
EDIT -> if you bought it "online" and you mean off-the-(internet)line then you might get away with returning it to the store, but your rights are actually different, they would be able to advise you on who to call to get your product returned, i didnt notice your message about buying it offline... and actually find it confusing.
Thanks for the help guys. I will be taking it tomorrow and shall demand a new one. Will put it back to stock/unroot and oem lock. Will also take all the papers that came when i got it delivered and a bank statement.
Very much appreciated. Thank you

So I'm one of the unlucky people who could not get a Nexus 4. So what now?
When are we waiting till? When will it come back in stock? What's going to happen now? Should I kill myself?
I am in the same boat. I don't have my own credit card (Use paypal for everything) and was getting the info sent to me at 11:50, which was SUPPOSED to be before the sale. Someone jumped the gun *cough*Google*cough*
Saw the sale start, I had a 16GB N4 in my cart, at the final order process, but couldn't fill out CC info and watched them all sell before my eyes. It has been a sad day.
Oh well, best we can do now is wait it out and see when they start stocking more. I am curious to see how people review it once they start getting it tomorrow, and am looking to see if battery life meets Optimus G levels. Also this gives us time to buy accessories / wait for more to come out (Anyone else hoping for an OTG Micro SD integrated case)
I couldn't buy an N4 this morning. I have my GNex listed on ebay, sale is ending any second now. Maybe I should cancel it. Pretty frustrating.
Gonna look at trying again. Don't know why but I've not been getting any luck with the website.

By restocking do you mean the 'restocking fee'.
The only reason why I am waiting for the phone is because of the restocking fee.
As soon as it goes away, I will order the nexus 4. I cant risk that might make me pay $50.
I think it will go away in 2 weeks. If it goes away in a week or this friday, it will be the best thing.

The restocking fee is part of their standard policy, and it applies to all the devices that google sells, provided you don't live in the EU or Australia. If you're in the US, its not going away.

Wait, what? The restocking fee is applied to opened and returned that aren't defective. It's nominally a charge for the repackaging they have to do. It has nothing to do with them having the phone in stock or not.

Ok so I ordered the Nexus 4 about two weeks ago. I have been so excited to get it and I literally just got it about an hour ago. Now something crazy has happened. About 30 mins after UPS dropped off my phone UPS came back with another package. The package looked exactly the same as the first package he dropped off and I was like WTF??
I opened the box and behold it was another Nexus 4. At this point I am all like WTF google better not have charged me twice. I ran to my computer and checked my bank account. They only charged me for one phone. I went to the google play store to check my transaction history and it also said that I only purchased one. I opened the package and looked at the invoice. Both packing slips have the same order number on them. I think Google actually messed up and sent me two Nexus 4s for the price of one.
Has this happened to anyone else? Should I be worried? Should I do the honest thing and send it back or just accept this as a Christmas Gift from Google? I would love to give this second phone to my sister for Christmas. What do you guys think?

You're LEGALLY entitled to keep it since Google shipped it to you.
Morally and ethically, you should return it.

Yes. If they charged you for one phone and mistakenly sent you two it's theft. I would contact them and let then know if I was you. They may give you some sort of a deal for being an honest person... Even if they don't, you can offer to pay for it and won't have to wait for shipping. Just my 2 cents

It certainly is theft. You are in possession of property that you didn't pay for and was clearly shipped to you in error. nbebbe42 is correct, contact Google and have it returned... just make sure they pay for the shipping.
There's an FTC rule that essentially deems all unrequested merchandise a gift and therefore an individual or company who ships something to someone by mistake has no recourse in recovering said merchandise.
Like I said, legally right, ethically wrong.
I was all ready to tell you to keep it but after reading these posts I thought how I would feel and I've always returned stuff that wasn't mine. I certainly wouldn't think of it as stealing though, I guess you just have to decide.
What if google charged you for 2 nexus and you only get one/? Would you call google theft??? You would be crying abd calling thrm thefts... Do the right thing and phone them

Legally speaking you are a %100 to do with it what you will, AS long as your name is on both shipping receipts. Ethically speaking by returning it you would put people through the hassle of getting it shipped back putting it back in the system and also risk the employment of whoever made the error.
If you think about it the amount of man hours to deal with these slip ups usually out cost the actual product being returned. I'd say make someone you love have an even better Christmas/Hanukkah or whatever you celebrate
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
You should do the right thing and call Google about it. See if they hook you up, give you a nice discount or something. At the end of day if you don't call you will be a thief. You should also consider giving it to a Dev at retail if Google will you let keep it. Development is slow.
I voided my warranty.
I wouldn't call it stealing. If you found the phone on the street and kept it is that stealing?
Someone lost it and you happen to stumble upon by accident.
Now you could turn the phone in to the authorities like a good man and maybe Santa will have something bigger in store for you this Christmas.
Or you could keep it like any normal person would do.
If you keep it however, they could trace it back to you (your signature receiving the order)
Likely scenario, someone messed up the order and the phone was sent to you. Whoever was supposed to receive the phone will not receive it, and will file a "lost/stolen" with Google and they will ship another one to them as an apology.
It isn't stealing because you didn't take it, it shipped to you

Just like being given extra $50 change at the register isn't stealing? Legally it may not be stealing but ethically it wrong and stealing. Some of us answer to the Big G, not Google, and don't have a disposable conscience as some of the logic being thrown around is implying.

If the RMA comes and no phone is returned, I get charged, which is fine but I don't think Google would like this very much.
Or would you guys recommend me just waiting till it goes back in stock and buying the phone the regularly? Thanks.
you can just RMA it then not send a phone back and they will just charge you. they wont care as long as they get their money. and if they do theyre not gonna do anything about it

Same applies for Google. But they don't seen to care much about their "loyal" customers. Rather ditching them, they started sending devices to the people who ordered later. Hence, I would be wise of OP to sell it to his friend and get another RMA device.

Besides, rather than coming forward and and informing their customers what EXACTLY is happening at the back end (the cause of such dreadful launch), they are playing "blame-game". Where are Google's morals? ethics? loyalty towards customer's?

Well in that case, they would have been intelligent enough and out-sourced agencies to retail stuff for them. There were many things they would have done rather then just disappointing their customers. And let's say they actually screwed it up.. what now? Stay quiet? Let customers suffer? No official statement about whats going on with them?
We all know the wait is a killer... u just can't get over it. It just bugs you a lot. Just imagine if u r dying to get Nexus 4 and do not foresee any hope of it coming back in a few weeks and even if it comes, the delivery will again take weeks. So in such scenario if the OP wants to sell his device to his friend, what's wrong? His friend is paying him. He is paying Google. Payment is made and device remains with the customer. Thing is done.
However, selling it on premium is greedy-ness but if OP's friend is willing to pay more :/.. then it's his call.

Yeah, but in all likelyhood if I would've kept it they would've found out anyway. The funny thing is, it originally was shipped with UPS shurepost which I upgragged to UPS ground. The second one I got was also upgrated automatically. So I wonder if they shipped it out using the exact same shipping label. Maybe they would've never found out after all. Good job OP.
Man screw that. I wouldnt have said a word... Karma doesnt affect business deals, only when you screw over a person.
I had a similiar issue with a Nexus 10. I had to exchange it so Google sent me an RMA, i sent it back and they said they never got it yet they sent me a new one when they were in stock.
Then refunded my money. So in essence, I got free Nexus 10 Tablet form Google.
The same people that hoard our data and then sell it without our knowledge or TRUE consent (yeah, Samsung does it too!) dont deserve the same rights that the shop keep down the street from me deserves.
OP you wasted your time emailing. They gifted you a tablet. Were were you when I was struggling for donations to buy mine? lol
