[Q] Is CSSN in Nexus 7 permanent? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Is CSSN a serial number? It can be found under Settings/About Tablet/Status or at the warranty card. My nexus 7 had a screen freeze issue and I sent to the Asus service centre since it is still under warranty. I got my Nexus 7 back and it is fixed. The unit is still the same by looking at the cosmetics. The SSN plastic sticker is still the same, which is expected since Asus only fixed the screen. However, the CSSN I checked is now different. So, my question is, is it possible to change CSSN? I might get cheated here. Thanks in advance!

RMA without original box

Hey guys
I was wondering if its possible to RMA a nexus 7 to ASUS without the original box. I want to RMA because my Nexus 7 takes about 10 hours to charge from 2% to 50%
I've RMAd before for blown speakers but I dont know how I'll be able to RMA without 2 serials numbers that are found on the original box

When I did my RMA, I did not use my box. I wrote the serial number on a sheet of paper and put it in the box. I also wrote it on the shipping label. When you request your RMA, the email they send you will give you clear instructions on what to do. The sticker or box is not required. I had the exact same concerns, but all went fine, and had mine back in ten days. No worries.

Dark vertical line down left side of screen (pic attached)... RMA?

Hey guys,
I previously had a black 16GB Nexus 4 that was perfect in terms of build quality. I switched to the white 16GB version when that came out, and am having some problems with my device. The biggest issue is that there's a dark vertical line running down the left hand side of the screen (attached picture). The phone is also creaky on all four corners of the device when I press down on it. Also, on the left side of the phone, one of the clips isn't properly seated and you can see a bit of a gap. Is this something that Google will replace my device for? The screen defect is pretty annoying. Anyone have experience with Google's RMA process? I can't be without a phone... How much money do they put a hold on your credit card for if you do an advance RMA (cross ship)? Thanks for your help.

I would RMA it. They cover it.
Full price is held on card.
Thanks for reply. I think I'll definitely be RMAing it. I just hope they kept some extra white models for RMA purposes, because I believe the white has been sold out on the Google Play store

Just ask them when you call in for the RMA. If they don't , get a refund.
Just so u guys know the process. I called in and explained issue. He walked me thru some basic troubleshooting. Last thing he wanted me to do was a factory reset. So he emailed me instructions how to do it and told me to call/email back if the factory reset fixed it. If it didn't fix it, he would have the device replaced. So I emailed him back after I did the factory reset (even tho I knew it wouldnt fix anything) telling him it didn't fix the issue. He then emailed back saying he was forwarding my case to a specialist who would help get me a replacement device. Waiting to hear from the specialist now. Should hear something by tomorrow. If they're out of the white model nexus 4's, I wonder if I can get them to upgrade me to the HTC One or Galaxy S 4 Google Play Editions (since their both white)... Hey, a man came dream right? I'll be documenting the RMA process in the thread for the benefit of others in the future.

You can never know, maybe they will upgrade it for free. good luck, and thanks for sharing the procedure with us.
My screen died, first it wouldn't respond to touch and before I could factory reset the whole phone died, can't get to fastboot and it isn't recognized in adb. My new phone will be here Monday and I don't know if they will go good on the warranty as the defective one has an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery on it. Only time will tell! I'll let you guys know when the dust settles. As for the dark line on your screen, I bought a TV that had the same thing and they had to replace it..I think they said it was the display monitor that had went.

Received my prepaid shipping label to ship my phone back to Google. Strangely, I didn't request an advance RMA, but they put in for an advance RMA anyway, so I had to give my credit card which they put an authorization for the full amount of the phone. What if I didn't have the money? Whatever happened to doing a *normal* RMA? Where they wait to receive the defective item, inspect it, and then send the replacement device, no credit cards needed. So I don't like that they give no option except advance RMA. Not everyone has an extra $350 laying around.
Another point of concern. It said in the RMA instructions to keep the charger that came with the phone because the replacement phone doesn't come with a charger. I emailed them back about this and asked why the new phone doesn't come with a charger, because NEW phones come with chargers. I asked so I could make sure that I'd be receiving a new phone. That would be a bunch of crap if they hold your credit card for $350+ and send you a refurb phone.
Looks like they still have white Nexus 4's in stock for RMA purposes. It stated on the RMA page "16GB white nexus 4 with bumper". So much for lucking out and having them upgrade me hehe.
I'll keep updating as more information becomes available.

Very strange..I specifically asked about refurbished devices in our emails back and forth and they assured me that they only send out new devices. I also emailed them about the charger and was told to return my old one as I would be getting a new one as well? I hope for our sake that what they told me was true..mine will be here tomorrow 07/29/13. I'll report back when I receive it.

I have yet to receive a reply to my email asking why I shouldn't return my charger, since new devices come with them. Good to hear that you got a reply saying to return the charger because you'd be getting a new one. I think what might be going on is that what they send is simply a boilerplate copy/paste email. All signs *seem* to point to us getting new devices. I wonder if we'll be getting new bumper cases as well? Did you return the bumper with your phone?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
No, I kept my bumper as I'm sure they won't replace it..lucky I ordered two sets of best skins screen protectors as well because I doubt they would reimburse you for that either

Got my delivery everything looks new to me including the charger. I don't think it's the latest version, my old one was a 301k and my new one is a 303k but as long as it works I'll be happy. Good luck with yours. Chive on!

Got my replacement. It's a new device and thankfully it has no screen flaws or creaking. It's a white Nexus 4, so it's a 305K just like my last one. Cheers guys!

Also want to add they sent me a new bumper as well.

Guess what... Replacement device has developed the same grey vertical line (left hand side) issue. After further research, seems many others are experiencing this issue. I doubt another RMA will fix it, as I'm starting to believe it's a characteristic/defect of the phone/display's design.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
hey, i finally found someone able to post a picture of this. i had the same issue with my n4 bought in december, i noticed, called google, got a new replacement device for free and guess what? that bloody line was still there! now i'm just keeping this replacement device with (once again) the line and..i guess i'll just live with it!
Doesn't that make you mad? I really like the phone, I just am really sensitive to screen flaws. I emailed Google to see if I can pay the difference for a GS4 Google Play Edition.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
Update: Google granted RMA for the replacement device they sent me that had the same issue (read above). Just waiting now for a "specialist" (just like last time) to send me a prepaid shipping label.

I've found no way to fix it. It's definitely a hardware issue. Mine have gotten worse over time. I just sold the last replacement one Google sent me without even opening it. Got a Nexus 5 and crossing my fingers but haven't had any issues with it

HELP: Unable to return defective note (box missing)

I bought an open box note 10.1 a month ago but it turned out to be defective (screen frequently unresponsive on wake up) . I tried to replace it but they told me they need the box because it has the serial number. I lost the box but the serial is already stored on the device. My question is:1- Do they have the right to refuse replacing the device for not having a box 2- What should I do in this situation?
P.S I have one year warranty.
Where did you buy it? Seems most notable retailers, (bestbuy, frys, staples..etc) would have mo problem so long as you are within your return window. Although sometimes those items can be sold "as is". It would state in your reciept. It seems like a simple conversation with the manager would solve the problem.
Worst case, just have Samsung give you an RMA. I'm sure they will have no problem with that.
Sent from my SM-P600 using Tapatalk
Just a suggestion, always keep the original box at least until the end of the warranty period. Besides that, contact samsung, if the retailer won't do anything you can always just request service.

I bought it from souq.com. I've already passed the return window (2 weeks) but still have 11 months in warranty.

So in case the retailer refused to give me a replacement, how can I contact samsung about it? and how easy is it to get a replacement?

You can search how to contact samsung on samsung website, it depend on your country, for US this is the link to find service location http://www.samsung.com/us/support/service/location
Then is up to samsung decide if you need a replacement or a repair.
serial number is on the back if it isn't worn off. you may need a magnifying glass to read it.
This does not sound legit.
Via my Note 3
So they have a 14 day return policy, after 30 days you want to return it, they won't let you and you want to know if they have the right to refuse replacement?
Yes they do, even if you had the original box. You are outside the return period. Now it is up to Samsung to repair or replace under warranty.

How old are you.. out of curiosity. You should be pretty capable of figuring out how to contact Samsung without anyone's help. I think we are getting trolled.

Looks like the OP is from Ismailia, Egypt. Most likely a language issue.

Have you tried to contact someone through the Samsung Ismailia Facebook page They maybe able to help you.
Looks like I need to make some clarifications here:
1- I don't want to return the device, I want to have it replaced (repaired at least). I've already edited the OP but failed to edit the title.
2- I bought the device from UAE via souq uae, and it has Souq.com Guarantee for one year
3- When I contacted souq.com they said they need the box because it has the serial number of the device. The box is lost.
Now I'm at a loss about what to do next.
I hope I made myself clear this time

Is the serial number on the back of the device?
Have you registered the device with Samsung?

The device has no serial number on its back. but you can get the serial from settings > about phone > status .. or calling *#60#
I don't know what you mean by registering the device.

Nexus 6P Refurb?

I recently had to send out my 27 day old Nexus 6P 128GB Graphite. Something happened with the mobile radio and it no longer was able to pickup any sort of cellular signal. Huawei approved the device to be replaced and I just recently got it. It came in a basic brown box. The phone was wrapped in the nexus slip it comes in as if you were opening it up for the first time from the original box. It also had the serial label on the back of it. Question is, has anyone had any experience with Huawei device replacements before and did you receive a new device or refurb? I hate the idea of possibly owning a refurbished phone because my Nexus 6P died within a months use. The phone I have seems new but is there any actual way to check that?

If it's any consolation, I'm using a refurb Nexus 6P and as long as it's manufactured refurbished you should be just fine. I have no problems whatsoever in any aspects, I was reluctant too and after that I've flashed several roms, run stress tests, Battery tests, etc. Been using it for about 6 months now without any problem. No complaints at all.

I hear ya. I mean I cant say I have ever had issues with refurbs but I just feel that paying as much as I did for the phone and having it break less than a month into its life just to potentially receive a used device, kind of scratches me the wrong way. But on the flip side I've never seen a refurb come exactly how it would be if bought brand new. So just was curious if anyone else ever dealt with Huawei.

S7 edge build date

Hello guys, I just bought a used Galaxy S7 edge and when I installed phone info app, the build date is 01/2017 but the imei says its 06/2016, and it's telling me my phone is fake because imei doesn't match build date. I know that it's not fake tho. What's the reason behind this please? Thanks.
It means that the original build date is 06/2016, but the phone has manufactury refurbished on 01/2017. So it's not really a new phone but a refurbished one.

Thanks for the clarification, I know its not a new phone but that got me worried since phone info said my phone is fake, so refurbished phone means it had some hardware issue and was sent back to conpany for repair, right?
Yes, could be hardware issue. But I have a refurbished phone as well, and before I bought it, it was sent back to the service by the original owner to change some components within warranty cover.
