It's a sad but also heartwarming, come back story. An early Android fan stuck on iPhon...I mean AT&T Mobile has the only option of leaving his carrier or go with the HTC Aria or Samsung Captivate. The Captivate wasn't impressive and he was especially turned off by the poor GPS functionality. But there was the little HTC Aria. She wasn't wowing anyone with specs but boy did he every think she felt good in the hand. So that Android fan took the little lady home and immediately the Aria became an integral part in his life. During those first few months, one would think that he'd never let the Aria go.
Well, a few months went by, we'll say 7 or 8. During that time, he'd rave and rave about the Aria and Android OS. He had no fear, no shame, nothing was going to hold him back from showing all those iSheep the power of Android. Then things got hairy. That little Aria just couldn't hold all of his precious apps. She began constantly yelling at him, popping up this little warning saying her internal memory was low. At first, he tried to continue to love her. He'd delete a few SMS threads, maybe a game he didn't play so often anymore. His willingness to compromise was there and he thought he'd be ok with it. Well, the yelling never stopped. As more and more apps had to be deleted just to receive SMS messages, things got bad.
He started looking for ways to get a newer, sexier Android before he was due an upgrade through AT&T. Eventually, his persistence paid off and the HTC Inspire 4G moved into his life. What did he do to the Aria you ask? He gave it to his wife!!! (That's a whole other story for another day) The Inspire inspired him again, this is what Android could really do!
As the months went by he would always crack jokes at the expense of the once beloved Aria. He'd reference the screen size, the processor speed, the new features, the new OS... he didn't love the Aria, he never loved the Aria! Well, it didn't take too long for his infatuation with the Inspire to settle down either. News broke of this Samsung Galaxy Nexus wearing this sexy little Ice Cream Sandwich piece... His eyes turned away from the Inspire and onto leaked images of the Galaxy Nexus. He showed no sympathy for the Inspire going so far as reading blogs on about Nexus, on her screen. It was only a matter of time. The Inspire knew she wasn't the apple of his eye anymore. She knew his ways, she'd be dumped on the interwebs and auctioned off like a little piece of meat.
That time came, his love for the Galaxy Nexus was too strong. In his hands he now held that Galaxy Nexus and all her Ice Cream Sandwich goodness in his hands. Now what about that Aria you ask? It was around this same time that the wife had seemingly destroyed the Aria via sweat! The wife was worried, what would she do without an Android? It was up to him to revive the little lady. He did all he could, took her apart to dry her out, left her in a bowl of rice for 48 hrs.... nothing worked, she was dead. Side tracked by other events he left the little Aria laying on a shelf. She would eventually find her way to a closet, surely to never see the light of day again. That was the end of the Aria as we all knew it.
Then a devastating day came to this man. It wasn't an uncommon occurrence that his GNex needed a power up come mid afternoon after a morning full of heavy use. She was plugged into the charger, a few minutes pass and he decided to turn her on. As she booted up the air reeked of burnt plastic and suddenly she powers back down. In panic, he pulls the charger from her USB port, powers her back on to find her functioning as normal. It was then he tried to continue her charge but it was too late, the damage had been done. She rejected the charge and once again shut down. What would he do with out his Jelly Bean/Google Now goodness?
It was then, in the back of his mind where he remembered of this once beloved, tiny little piece of Android goodness called the Aria. He wondered, over time has she forgotten about how he treated her in the end? Or perhaps she had grown fond of him again, after his attempts to save her. Regardless he had to try. Locating her, laying all alone on a dark, cold closet shelf he gently picks her up, grabs her charger and inserts it into her USB port. Suddenly, she begins to charge without a hitch. Seeing this, he smiled as if to show her the pleasure he felt from seeing her turn on. She gave him a full boot up and he gave her a fresh factory reset so that they would be able to reconnect once again. He whole-heartingly tried to make the relationship work as it once did. As an hour went by, he just couldn't get past the smell of her old, rotten froyo smothered in Sense UI. Where was project butter? Where was Google Now? Where all his apps?
He grew frustrated with the way she ways, just as he did before. Knowing he had no other immediate options, he knew it was time to take her under the lights...it was time to root. He had to see what the little lady could really do for him in this time of great need. He didn't want to push the limits too far, so he gets her a cute little stable build of CM7. When he sees that on her, there was a spark of hope in his eyes. Giving her a day to get accustomed to her new outfit and him as well, he felt it was good but he desired more. It was off to the interwebs he went, searching and searching to find her decent stable build of Ice Cream Sandwich. At first, the search was not going as planned. Was she too old? Did she not have enough power? After all this, was she going to let him down again? It was then that here at XDA he found WinSuk and they're version of CM9 for the Aria. He knew he had to at least try it. It was a risk but he knew he could flash her back to CM7 should things not go well. But what would this story be had things not turned out for the better? That little Aria is currently doing all she can to deliver her first love a smooth, cool, and creamy Ice Cream Sandwich experience.
Thank you WinSuk and my little HTC Aria.
Great story Have you fiddled with CM10 yet? It's got some juicy Google Now make sure to move your davlik cache to an ext partition on the sd so you can have more freedom with apps!

So a friend of mine recently picked up a new phone, and elected to get the Moment. I've seen people trash the Moment on these boards, but can I get some clear reasons why he should switch to the Hero or pony up the extra hundred bucks for an Evo?
It's his first smartphone, and he's not particularly tied to either the camera or the keyboard, but he's not a particularly easy guy to convince of something. Thanks.
The moment is the only android phone I would classify as a functional brick.
No offense to those who dig it. I like a physical kb too but the moments kb is (imo) a very poor design. Also, slider phones that don't tilt at all just don't feel natural to type on.
The thing is huge width wise too. I don't use a holster or belt clip, I keep my phone in my front left pants pocket. The evo is enormous but it's thin, fits in my pocket perfectly.

Good thread.. but its a little outdated.
Now we have OC kernels that run 32mhz slower then the moment, not much of a difference. Also we have darchdroid, basic android system like the moment has, so its not "laggy" because of sense UI. Also the hero has this site for support, which gives it a huge community.
The Evo.. thats a whole nother story, i would get one in a heart beat if i could. And soon any kinks/bugs will be worked out, specially if you are rooted flashing custom roms, which are worlds better then htc.
We had one guy from here (xda) get a moment (they didnt have a replacement hero for him). And he was ok with it at first, about a month later, he absolutely hated his Moment and wanted to get a Hero again. He has a thread somewhere about it.
Why I dont like the moment is a personal and hardware standpoint. My pet peeve is when the spacebar divides up the keyboard so that drives me insane but that is complete personal bias
4 things you look at from an engineering stand point.
0. Accessibility - It doesn't have to provide desired effects, just USEFUL effects. The battery life (when I had one) was horrid - 5 hours max on a battery charge. Meaning when battery is dead - it doesn't even provide useful data.
1. Reliability - It does what it is supposed to do. When you need it to do it.
Again the battery, and its random CDMA lock ups that require a reboot.
2. Safety - this stands on its own. It can't get anyone hurt.
The thing is a brick, it would cause some sort of back injury lugging that heavy thing around.
3. Security - varies for different things.
this is a cell phone...all are pretty insecure when someone has physical access, not moment specific. But I figured I would throw in the 4th one. And when you get pissed off at it and sling it out a window and someone finds it - it become insecure.
Of course all IMHO.
The moment will always have its place in my heart.... next to my mother in law and the red headed step child
/sarcasm
My girlfriend has the moment and absolutely loves it. She has always loved Samsung phones though.
I told her she could always use it to break a window if needed.

That was the one benefit I out weighed with the Hero and the Moment.
With the Hero, if I ever drive my car into the lake and need to call 911 -i'd be dead before the dialer started up. However with the moment which also had similar things happen - I could just break the window.
Lets see, I owned a moment for 3 weeks and just went back to the Hero.
My quibbles with the Moment
1) battery life is PITIFUL
2) the phone is very heavy
3) The phone randomly would have data lockups where EVDO would just QUIT working, but the phone wouldn't indicate there was a problem with signal, only fix is reboot
4) The battery indicator software is pathetic, it would show 80% for like 4 hours then just DIE. Even with tweaks the battery code would only show increments in 5%.
5) There is no XDA portal for the Moment.

That's because forums with a large presence like this can often sway users form one phone to the next.
My personal experience with the Moment is even though it has a stronger processor it does lack a bit of the umph that the Hero has, but I just don't think the right people have their hands on the kernels and ROMs and such, so the Moment may never be as badass as the Hero in terms of its modifications and things. You can easily make or break a phone's popularity by just the hands that the phone is in.

The best reason to stick with the Hero is the Dev community. The moment and hero are dead as far as further support/software improvements from sprint. The Devs here with the addition of Cyanogen's team will help insure the Hero is a great phone for a lot longer than the handful of devs on the Moment.
I almost bought the moment because it looked like a nicer phone to me. But the day i went to sprint they were out of them so i got a hero instead. I don't regret it but id love a phone will a hardware keyboard. The moment doesn't have alot of development for it.
Well my time has come for a new phone, right now i am on the mt3g. I am debating between the and the nexus one, but I am leaning towards the vibrant. So, how have you liked the vibrant? and for anyone out there that has a n1 and the vibrant, which do you like better?
Thanks for your feedback.
I struggled with making a decision but it comes down to the vibrant has a 16g of storage, plus covered under a less hassle warranty, and i love it and the battery life so far. it ran all night under wifi with virtually no battery drain, porn comes up super quick.
I have both. The N1 is having it's plug pulled... the Vibrant expects 10M sold and is incredibly fast and rooted.
Pretty easy choice! You will love it....
Thanks guys.
That's what is turning me off from the N1, is you have to jump through hoops to get it. the vibrant has awesome specs, and i can have it within minutes. anything you dont like about the phone? how does it feel? i guess i need to run to tmo today and play around with it, but i know if i do i will come home with a new toy.....that's not necessarily a bad thing...
I don't like the GPS. Takes forever to lock and is usually around 10 meters (35 feet) precision.
My G1 is always around 4 meters precision.
That's weird my gps works perfectly
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I used the GPS last night to show my speed while driving last night.. it locked on quick and the Speed display was spot on.... no complaints here.
With Android GPS I noticed is if you do a "cold start" (GPS is turned of and you turn it on) it takes a little longer. If you do a "warm start" (GPS is turned on but idle) it picks up a lot faster.
Definitely go with the Vibrant. Watch this video to see why:

Keep in mind that the Captivate is the same Galaxy S hardware as the Vibrant, just for AT&T.

Sold my Anna for this. You can't imagine how much lighter this thing is, how screen is better and bigger. I can't believe I am saying this.... I like touch wiz! Phone is really fast, awesome.
What I don't like? Like all phones these days, bloat! You can remove it though, and custom roms should get rid of it. Also, no camera flash, bleh.
thanks for the feed back guys. I went to tmo the other day, played around with the phone........I was amazed at how light and awesomely fast it is. Can't wait to get it.
One thing i noticed though is there was a little lag coming from a program back to home, my mytouch3g with cm5 was much faster, obviously that's not a fair comparison, and who knows what they had installed and running on the store demo phone, but I'm wondering if any of you have noticed any kind of lag back to the home screen?
As I'm sure you already have looked through the vibrant forums, make sure to go through the "tips and tricks"sticky. Its well put together and will address must if not all your questions and concerns.
As far as my personal experience I would give this phone a 90% approval rating. Using old android tricks to save battery and being patient has brought me to really appreciate the phone. Of course there are things that need to be addressed but no one short of the devs and/or froyo will have a fix, if they even have a fix.

No lag here.
I'm very curious as to what people are talking about when it comes to lag. I've owned many smart phones and trust me I know what lag is. iPhone anyone? Lag central...
I have had NO lag whatsoever on my phone. You press a button and it pops up. Boom. Just like that.
So when people are referring to lag on the Vibrant, it's either they got a F#$%ed up lemon or too much porn...jk...you get the point. What the H3ll are they putting on the phone that's causing this "lag?" I don't get it...
Also, keep in mind that the demo Vibrant phones in the store have that demo video / advertising stuff on there...it could be the reason for what you experienced.
The wife got me the vibrant for my bday yesterday, I get it today! words cannot describe how excited i am! as we speak (12:00 mst) it sits in the ups box on my front porch. I am just waiting for lunch time (12:30 mst) to roll around so i can mozy on home and pick up my new toy!

............My jaw is still on the floor, I LOVE this phone its amazing. Touch wiz isn't as bad, IMO, as i thought it was going to be. Absolutely no lag going back to home like i experienced with the store demo.
Next step is getting it rooted to remove some of this samsung/tmo bloatware.
Overall it is very light, very thin, perfect sized screen, VERY fast....I am happy with my purchase.
just doesn't quite say it.
Like I've said in my previous posts, when it comes to samsung supporting ANY of their phones, well you don't get any. They make buggy phones which have problems after a few days of use, and then instead of recalling or updating kernels/roms, they just totally ignore the customers and run off with the money. The "legal" alternative of scamming.
And they have done the same with samsung epic.
http://www.talkandroid.com/13036-samsung-epic-already-having-issues-on-launch-day/
It's not the issues per say, but it's the fact that they KNEW about the issue, and ignored it. I know evo had some issues from the start as well, but this was usually do to a bad batch and htc didn't know about this until mass release. BUT samsung knew about this issue before they even released the phone.
tl;dr: samsung is a crap company when it comes to phones, they don't support their products, and will screw you over when they get the chance.

no, not really. People are comparing evo to samsung epic, and to me it seems like a right forum to warn everyone about the problems with the epic. I had a chance yesterday to trade my evo for a samsung + 25$. I was thinking about it since my evo has a broken 4g, and the only reason i thought about it was the processor speeds, but after reading that article upon many others, I was re-assured that I will never buy another samsung phone.
my favorite are all the posts of people saying "i bought the phone an hour ago it pwns it is so leeet" now give them a few dys they will be the ones going back and shouting "omg this phone sucks my back button doesnt work ... wth screw you samsung".
I just have to say this....and YES the pun is intended.
EPIC Fail!
Well... I guess this isn't really any different then the screen seperation issue and the light spot on the lcd over the processor and the power button crack on Evo's. I am sure testers ran into all those problems. it is a matter of what is going to cost more; retooling and redesigning a few pieces of the phone and replacing it on 100,000 handsets, or replacing a few thousand handsets that run into the issue.
I'm sure my numbers aren't really in the ballpark, but you get my drift. Every company has to make decisions like this.

I don't buy in the lcd separation bs. I saw people take pictures of claiming about separation and it looks fine to me. If it was separating, then the touch screen wouldn't work as well and you would be experiencing more problems than "dust settling under the screen".
As for the hairline crack on the power button, most of the people that had it, didnt even know about it. Sprint techs probably didn't know about it as well.
Actually, this is a whole other ballpark. You could argue that the Evos were pushed out the door for launch, but Samsung released the first Galaxy S phone in the beginning of June in Europe, and every issue Epic users are running into now were discovered back then. Three months ago. Three months and no fixes for their new phone. They knowingly released a defective phone, will probably never fix it, and will move on to their next phone in January. So long suckers! Oh, and watch this space for complaints about the keyboard Oreo. The only reason this is new is because the Epic is the first Galaxy phone with a keyboard. I mean, you didn't think they'd get that working properly out of the gate, did you?
Sorry for all the FUD, but I'll probably have Gingerbread on my Evo before the Epic gets froyo.

samsung couldn't (and still can't) do flip phones right (had a couple, they would always break; switched to sanyo, i've had that sucker for >4 years and I still bring it out of the box as a backup from time to time, and everything still works on it), why would we expect them to do smart phones any better? they just do not make quality product. burn in on the screens, wow - basically one of your hot selling points is the AMOLED screen, and it has huge burn in problems in less than a month? and they are mass producing these things? no epic for me, and no samsung AMOLED for me on any phone, thanks.
love my evo. no, HTC is not perfect, not saying that at all. but they do make a better quality product than sammy any day, hands down.
Quick off-topic question. I am seriously considering the EVO. However, I need Wifi to work. Are there still issues with poor Wifi signal on the Evo or has this been resolved?
After the froyo update, I went from 2 bars on my couch sitting 20 feet from my router to full bars and I can now go into the bedroom and still get signal. I used to switch to my Diamond and use Opera Mini whenever I was in the bedroom, but that's no longer an issue. 3G signal got stronger as well.
Or was there a different wifi issue you were referring to?
Yeah, WiFi is big for me too and I noticed a while ago it seemed to be better than when I first bought the device. But I thought this was done some time ago. But yeah, WiFi is good.

same thing, getting full bars in two rooms down. About 2 or so bars throughout the house.
After some research I went with the EVO. I have no problems with wifi throughout my house or any other issues with this phone. I came from the Samsung Moment and that phone was a nightmare, no updates to fix the known issues, they deemed it EOL after the 2.1 update. Even with a ROM rooted it was bad. I am half expecting the same with the epic.
Delete this post, I posted in the wrong forum (FAIL).
I purchased the Epic to compare it to the Evo. It really is a great phone, but I think I'm going to stick with my EVO. There were small issues I had that may have been no problems for others, but to me they were dealbreakers. The screen truly does wonders and makes the EVo appear washed out. However, the size is noticeable when compared to the EVO. They realistically could have kept the screen the same size as the EVO had they made the "SAMSUNG" on the front smaller. The email would also never update without a manual refresh, the touch screen buttons are hardly responsive. The email was a big issue to me. However, the biggest deal breaker was the battery. My battery life on the Epic was worse than the EVO. Not a huge deal since Im always near a charger. However, the battery would take hours to charge. My evo could be completely shut down and charge from 10%-100% in about an hour tops. The EPIC took several hours.
That said, the phone is incredibly snappy stock. I would love to see what developers can do with it, but I dont think I have the patience to wait. I'm a regular flashoholic on my EVO.

Hey Guys,
Apparently someone fed me the Kool-aid, as my plan is to head over to my local AT&T store and pick up a brandy-new SGSII this afternoon (assuming the call quality is as good as reported and the GPS works).
I have 2 lines ready for upgrade - and while I still love my Aria - I think it's time to move on.
This has been a spectacular community - probably one of the most tight-knit and helpful online communities I've been a part of (and I'm on quite a few forums). I'll still be lurking around - and will probably keep my Aria on a somewhat current nightly even, depending on how soon I get the sack to root/CM7 my SGSII. Took me a week for the Aria.
I hope those who are still developing on this device keep at it. Thank you all! It has been a pleasure to watch how this device grew from the (almost) very beginning....
dd
Later man- thanks for helping around here. Have fun with your new phone.
man, i'm so tempted to get a sgs2 myself. the only thing that's keeping me from doing so is that at$t will be rolling out its new LTE network later this year. i love my little aria, but i have been keeping an eye on the up coming nexus prime. jumping from a 3.25 screen to 4.5 will be awesome

LOL, yeah, I don't expect to see AT&T LTE around me for a couple years probably, so I am not even close to the point of worrying about that. As far as screen size goes, 4.3 is taking me some getting used to. The 3.2 Aria screen is slightly too small, but honestly the 4.3 is a little too big for comfortable one hand use sometimes. I actually prefer 3.7-4 as an optimal screen size. Almost made me go with an Atrix instead, but decided I'd get used to the screen rather than regret not having the badest-ass thing available for a few weeks . It's a fantastic device so far...

I actually prefer 3.7-4 as an optimal screen size. Almost made me go with an Atrix instead, but decided I'd get used to the screen rather than regret not having the badest-ass thing available for a few weeks . It's a fantastic device so far...

ATRIX has the better battery life than gs2. And with a superamoled screen it won't last long. Should have waited for the prime!

From the reviews I have read, it seems the SGSII actually gets more life out of the smaller battery than the Atrix - the one that jumps to mind is the continuous run video test by engadget - they claim 9.5 hours for the SGSII. Not sure I would expect that myself, but today's first run from full charge is promising. 11 hours 49 min. of up time, 1hr 56min screen on time, and battery is at 48%. Background data on, entire time, running on wifi for about 9 of the uptime hours. I think in similar circumstances, I would expect around 20% battery left in my Aria. I am cheating a little though, as I filled the hideously bad hole in 3g coverage in my house by picking up a re-spiffied microcell for 50 bucks though
As far as the prime goes, I absolutely DO NOT want a bigger screen than the SGSII - as far as I'm concerned, that is the biggest (pun intended) negative of this phone. Had it been a 4" screen it would be perfect.
And I don't think you'll see LTE in Dover much sooner than I'll see it in Milton ;-)
The gs2 is a sick looking phone. I hated the small screen on the aria, but when I got it, I had to pick between that and the backflip.
Once I switched to a fast phone, I never looked back. 4inch screen is plenty big, but 4.3 must look real nice. Isn't it nice having high quadrant scores now? I got 4523 running cm7.
The aria was my first android phone and I will never forget it.
And its Barrington now, not Dover. MicroCell also.

Yeah I was in the same boat with the Aria/Backflip choice. Very glad I went with the Aria. My wife had a Cappy up until yesterday, and I wouldn't have traded the Aria for that device, even with it's speed.
You're absolutely right about the speed though - totally different feel...
Guess you'll get LTE when Calef's finally caves and puts a tower on the roof...somewhere around 2046 or so...
Aria to SG2 - depersonalizing Aria
I'm another one that has made the switch to the Galaxy II - I'm in love with my phone again! I enjoyed the Aria and it's small size for carrying, but my eyes are getting older, and the small screen made everything difficult. Also, even though I had a large SD card in it, I was forever running out of space on the phone itself with all of the apps that couldn't be moved to SD. The larger screen is a beauty, and the huge phone memory makes it fun to visit the Market!
I'm trying to find a place on the site or elsewhere that will give directions on removing any personal items and downloads on the Aria, but would still leave it useful for someone else.
Thanks for any direction,
SoloAria

Menu > Settings > Privacy > Factory reset data
My phone is rooted. Does that take it back to the AT&T setting? Is there a way to remain rooted but wipe it clean?
Thanks for the response.

It does NOT return the phone to the factory default ROM (i.e., the phone will still be rooted and using whatever ROM you have installed). However all downloaded applications and personal data will be reset. The phone will reboot and it'll go through the "initial setup" screen again. Your SD card contents will still be there though, so if you also want to wipe the SD card you need to do that separately from the Android settings menu under Storage.
Sad that you're leaving. I have owned the aria now for over a year and still like it. I really like that it is small and hence, it does not feel bulky when I carry it in my pocket.
Farewell friend...
just cuz you get a new phone, does'nt mean you cant still mod the Aria
i looked at many other new phones, but i still like the Aria best.
IMO the size is perfect, and i like there is a separate hardware button for waking(or whatever you want it to do )
I hit the casino, won some money, and deposited it into my bank. Tomorrow morning I'm ordering my SGS2. Within a week (I expect) I will no longer be using my N1. I'm excited and sad at the same time. My N1 has served me so well for 2 years now. I've gone through phases of being a "crackflasher", had a ton of ROMs on it (although I always went back to CM), and I use it HEAVILY. Even though it is 2 years old it still performs so well compared to newer devices. The XDA N1 community has been friendly, helpful, and full of great development. I liked my N1 so much I considered the HTC Amaze for a while because I assumed it would be similar in a lot of ways but just have better insides. Now my future is full of ODIN, download mode, and a lack of CM (as of now at least).
I'm going to repurpose my N1 to be my mp3 player and XBMC remote. Yes, it already does those things and my SGS2 will be able to as well. I just figured if I leave the 16gb card in there and use it this way will save battery on my new phone. I've done this with another old phone and phone that removing things like phone.apk, sms.apk, and other "crucial" system apps you are left with a wifi only device that has unbelievable battery life.
Anyway, sorry for all the blubbering.
I was thinking the same thing with regards to mp3 player and TiVo remote for my N1. However, I recently have been unable to fit my headphones to the jack. I'll need to google to see if there's an easy fix for that.
I'm still on the fence. I really love my N1, especially with the MeDroid CM7 rom on it. I've been looking at the SGS2 and Galaxy Nexus as possible candidates, but the plastic feel is a bit of a turn off. I'm really hoping HTC does come out with a Tegra 3 phone that has a metal body.
I'm not sure what you mean by lack of CM on SGS2, but CyanogenMod has both CM7 and CM9 for SGS2 and they are both really good
I haven't found much for the T989 variant thought and since I'm T-Mobile that's what I ordered. The international and ATT versions are getting more love.

The HTC Amaze is pretty impressive. Same specs as SGS2 but with a metal body and higher resolution screen. The screen is a little smaller though and I've read that the battery sucks but that is the story with a lot of phones anymore.
I just got an i9100 sgs2,and Oxygen 2.3.2 works great on it. So far I haven't noticed any bugs.
I think the sgs2 is a great choice, they have sold so many of them that there are quite a few roms available. The more phones sold, the more people are interested in getting new roms on the device.
About the part of removing the SMS apk etc, can you not just permanently take the sim card out if the phone and put it on flight mode?
Will that have the same effect?

The N1 is still a great device, but I just replaced it with a Rezound. The N1 was still meeting all of my needs, but Verizon's 4G siren call was too much to resist.
Now the N1 sits on my coffee table, a remote for the media center with VOIP an added bonus.

I guess you could. To me, if the apps are gone they can't run so that is going to save battery. I removed the apps with Root Toolbox on my old MT3G Fender phone and loaded it up with free games and gave it to my son. I've got it running CM 6.1 with Zeam launcher and removed a ton of system apps. It lasts for several days on 1 charge this way.
N1 is a really good device, like a legend in HTC Android phones. I'm afraid i'm unable to get rid of it until 。。。 i don't know
won't you constantly get FCs notices on those apks that you remove?

You do on some. I used Root Toolbox to remove them because it can create a backup of the app and restore it if you need. I tried to remove just about everything that didn't seem completely necessary for my MT3G to be used as just a game device for my kiddo and encountered a couple of .apk's that caused FC's when removed. I just immediately reinstalled them, although when FC popups kept coming up every couple of seconds it wasn't easy.
