(sorry for my bad english)
Hi. I'm new.
I want root and install a new rom on my Nexus 7 tablet. What rom is the best ? Is it possible to hook up an external 3G modem in my Nexus 7 using microUSB--->USB adapter or OTG cable ?
Search is your friend and is not to be feared.
1) There is no such thing as a ”best rom.” Try some different ones for yourself and then keep the one that you like the most.
3) Yes, there has been some success using certain 3G dongles with the original N7.

As said previously, if you want WP7, you need to buy WP7. Until then your only going to get look-a-likes.
Hi,
i am new to this device and i want to calrify some things first. I own a Samsung Galaxy Nexus (previously Nexus One) and i am familiar to the dev sections of android/nexus devices.
1. What i do not understand is why the dev section is separated into Nexus 7 Android Development and Nexus 7 Original Development.
I there any difference between these devices or are they the same? I am in europe - which one do i usually get?
2. What is a good ROM to start with? What i am basically looking for is a fast and lean ROM with a very stock look and very good battery life. I am also looking for a true tablet UI look as it is on the transformer prime for instance. I mean i dont want those dock icons on the right when i hold the N7 horizontally...
Any suggestions? :fingers-crossed:
Thanks in advance

1.original android development means that the devs there started the work from scratch/ or based from stock rom while android development is the place where people use other roms as a base and put their improvements into it (correct me if i'm wrong though)
2. you can try them all out check what fits your standard and look at the features if it has what you want try paranoid since it offers options which can make N7 look like tab
for question #2, try out Paranoid Android. that should give you the feel you are looking for in a tablet.
^^ what they said. PA for that tablet feel and while you are at it may I recommend Franco's kernel

I recommend smoothrom, it's my favorite. I've been using it for months and it gets much better battery life than stock.
There are only two possibles with this question:
1) You like/love your Nexus 7 just the way it is and you're very happy with the performance and knowing it will get some official updates before most any other devices do (just like it did yesterday with 4.2.2 and it being only one of 4 devices to get it this early)
or...
2) You like/love your Nexus 7 just the way it is but you're interested in seeing just what it's really capable of because "pure stock" is never going to really show of what the Nexus 7 can do in terms of performance and even battery life.
If you're firmly situated in the type of person where #1 is absolute and true, then stick with what you've got. If you're the type of person where #2 is more akin to your interests, then obviously rooting is the way to go because it basically opens up those possibilities that "pure stock" simply can't offer.
As for what those opportunities are, well, that's why XDA- Developers exists: this forum has (according to the latest stats):
Threads: 1,724,770, Posts: 35,783,153, Members: 4,897,464, Active Members: 488,400
Suffice to say this place didn't get this popular with people running "pure stock."
And just for the record: rooting does NOT mean you must install a custom ROM or anything like it - rooting gives you the opportunity (along with unlocking the bootloader, obviously) of running custom kernels which can and do add a lot of goodies in terms of performance and battery life while still remaining with the stock ROM overall. Custom ROMs are just another bonus on top of unlocking bootloaders and rooting devices - they're not the end-all-be-all, however.
A lot of people don't quite get that so I figured I'd point it out...
If your running 4.2.2 rooting is impossible js

No its not.
Just because you can't root and can't use Google search like the rest of us doesn't mean its impossible. It took me about 20 minutes to do it when I got it and I had no idea what I was doing. It's all because this wonderful thing we call Google search.

I have a highly modded GNex phone and have been an active member of the Android Dev community for quite a while now. I love how I have configured my GNex and I wouldn't have it any other way.
With my N7, I just adore this thing totally stock, non-rooted, all locked-up. Not only can a stock N7 function beautifully IMO, I find that spending 0% of my time futzing with ROM selection, kernal selection, and endless tweaking allows me to dedicate 100% of my time to just enjoying and using the thing.
So, I Iike living in both worlds, on different devices, for different reasons. If you enjoy your N7 just the way it is, go grab it and enjoy it some more. That's just what I am doing. No need to question it!
That's kind of what I did as well, except the complete opposite of you. I've unlocked and rooted both my Gnex and N7, but my Gnex is stock. I left it that way so I can get the official updates, which I'm always curious about. The N7 is more like a testing tool, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I have stock nexus 7 16 GB Asus version but I don't like it mobile phone like home screen and top bar. I prefer more tablet Like layout with a bar at the bottom like honeycomb. Should I install a different ROM or is there any app for my wish?
If you want a consistent and excellent tablet UI ROM, there's only one option:
Paranoid Android 3.0 which was just updated to 4.2.2 but it's considered a "nightly" build which means it's in testing, and yes it has a few tiny bugs. Bluetooth requires a patch on the ROM (the patch is already out and ready to be installed after you install the nightly ROM released on February 14th).
On top of that you can use a custom kernel to make things even better, like franco.Kernel or what I use which is M-Kernel a37 and I highly recommend it.
In the long run the only person that can choose the best ROM for your Nexus 7 is you by installing and testing different ones until you find one that does everything you'd like and do it well.
Good luck...

One does not simply ask which is the best ROM on xda.

Better to try them each yourself to see which works best for you.

Hi,
I am a new Galaxy S4 I9500 user and has been following xda threads for a while.
I like stock touchwiz experience but would love to have more control and features. Hence I decided to root my device and install a custom rom.
Based on roms description and UI, both Omega rom and Arrow rom look good to me, would you please recommend which one you prefer more and why.
It will help me in deciding which one to go with. Galaxy s4 is my work phone so I can't keep on flashing one rom after another so your feedback is highly appreciated.
Thanks.
This type of thread is strongly frowned upon and will probably get locked as soon as the mods catch wind of it.
Take both of them for a test drive and then formulate your own informed opinion which of the two suits your own unique needs best.

I don't want to compare, I probably put my question in wrong way. Looking at the feature list I am not able to figure out what all things they offer and what they have removed from stock, so I just wanted to get some opinion of users here at xda.
Since opinions about ROMs are subjective depending on how you use your device, everyone's is going to be different. We try to discourage such threads since they often don't end well.
Your best bet is to look through them to see which ones suit your needs and try them all out.
